*In this, the second of a two parter, we hear more of the crazy countercultural life and times of The Incredible String Band - from the inside looking out - with Rose Simpson *Rose was one quarter of the band during what many regard as their creative and countercultural peak in the late 60s and early 70s. •Her memoir 'Muse, Odalisque, Handmaiden' is an incredible story, relating how she rocketed (as a student without any particular interest in music or the counterculture), via an accidental meeting in a Scottish mountain cottage, to photoshoots in American Vogue and playing at Woodstock - and then came all the way back again. *It's a fascinating tale, not just because the ISB were fascinating in themselves, but because it is beautifully told with a wealth of detail about a time that is usually dominated by mens' voices. •She had many psychedelic adventures along the way, narrowly escaped getting involved in Scientology and then - and then left it all behind. *And she knows where the sitars are buried... *We dived into drugs, communal life, the ups and downs of free love, the catastrophe of the cult, making it up as you go along, the mysterious life and disappearance of Rose's bandmate Licorice, going full on and far out. *Rose's memoir 'Muse, Odalisque, Handmaiden' (published by Strange Attractor) *Adrian Whittaker's compilation book Be Glad for the Song Has No Ending *Thanks to Peter Neal for the audio clips from his film Be Glad for the Song has No Ending #tripping #psychedelics #london #consciousness #scotland #scottishcounterculture #counterculture #drug #lsd #music #joeboyd #1960s #scientology #rosesimpson #incrediblestringband #begladforthesonghasnoending #woodstock #stephenduffy #hippie
They were artists, myth makers, story tellers, tribe leaders, psychedelic troubadours; they pioneered "world music” with albums like The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter; they experimented with theater, drugs, film and lifestyle and inspired The Beatles, The Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Pet Shop's Neil Tennant, The Lilac Time and many, many others. They lived the hippie dream of communes and free love, dressed like mediaeval princes and princesses, were the very essence of the Scottish counterculture, played Woodstock, became cult stars, were acid evengeleists; gathered a following, a tribe that stayed loyal to them long after they had gone.. In this, the first of a two parter, Adrian Whittaker who compiled the epic new book Be Glad for the Song Has No Ending and Peter Neal who made the film Be Glad for the Song has No Ending back in 1970, take us on a trip through the crazy countercultural life and times of The Incredible String Band. Nikole “Niki” Bakoles was twenty years old when she disappeared after an argument with her boyfriend. Less than a year later, parts of her body were found in the Great Salt Lake—but no one knew it was her. Dubbed “Saltair Sally” by the public, Niki was considered a Jane Doe for twelve full years with no hope of her identity ever being uncovered. Despite pushback from police, her mother insisted that the remains belonged to her daughter—and when they finally tested them, she was right. Leaving behind only her young child, the end to Niki's story remains a mystery to this day.
Going into year five of losing my brother to a homicide, thanks to Detective G I already had most of the answers I was looking for, but in the middle of a global pandemic, I felt like I was regressing in my grief journey. I went through a mixture of feelings, excited because of my entrepreneurial journey but sad at the same time. In this episode, I'm talking about the evolution of my grief journey, how my brother came to me in dreams several times to deliver messages, my spiritual journey, why I decided to get a sunflower tattoo, and how I found out that we had a name: surviving siblings, why I felt compelled to seek out a medium and how I found him. In this episode I'm covering: The evolution of the grief journey [00:01:02] Signs from my brother / My brother pays me a couple of visits [00:04:30] The sunflower tattoo [00:08:54] My spiritual journey [00:13:54] Seeking resources for Surviving Siblings [00:21:30] Compelled to seek out a medium [00:31:10] My grief journey continues [00:45:10] For full episode show notes and transcript, click here Book recommendation Surviving Sibling Loss: The Invisible Thread that Connects Us Through Life and Death by Dawn DiRaimondo Grief Guide by Maya Roffer Get The Grief Guide for Surviving Siblings here Andreas' Music YouTube | Andreas Roffler Connect with Maya Instagram | @survivingsiblingspodcast | @mayaroffler TikTok | @survivingsiblingspodcast Twitter | @survivingsibpod Website | The Surviving Siblings

All of us have read passionate stories about tragic lovers like Laila-Majnu,Heer-Ranja, or Soni-Mahiwal who stood with each other in the face of adversities. What happens to their lives when fate takes its turn? Does it have a happy ending? Well, what is the meaning of a happy ending when some love stories just don't end? Two more semi-well-known criminals have been woven into the fabric of this story, the story of the disappearances of Rachel Trlica, Renee Wilson, and Julie Moseley. In this final part of our series on The Fort Worth Missing Trio: The “Mall Passer,” aka James Mitchell DeBardeleben, and the confessor of “The Eleven That Went To Heaven,” Edward Harold Bell. Though there is no evidence at all that either of these criminals were involved in the disappearance of the Trio, they have been forever written into the mythology of the case.Submit your DNA data from a consumer testing company to Othram's database. It is based on some of the Metta instructions of Bhante Vimalaramsi. Metta is part of the Brahma Viharas found and described in the earliest Buddhists texts as another path to awakening including breath. This meditation will lead you directly to the deep awakening of the heart and mind. You spend the first 10-15 minutes by radiating Loving Kindness to yourself and then to a Spiritual Friend and finally to the 6 directions as required in the full BrahmaVihara Practice. https://www.dhammasukha.org/the-6rs.html It is guided by David Johnson, senior student of Bhante Vimalaramsi There are less instructions in this session for people who already know the instructions. It will be helpful for you to be familiar with the 6R Practice for eliminating hindrances. What are the 6Rs? https://www.dhammasukha.org/the-6rs.html Do this daily and when progress (joy arises and it moves to your head) appears please contact us at Dhamma Sukha Meditation Center for further guidance at info@dhammasukha.org. You may read the instructions here: https://www.dhammasukha.org/lovingkindness-instructions.html A book 'Guide to TWIM (Tranquil Wisdom Insight Meditation)' is available (link below) with the complete guide, 'The Path to Nibbana' for the full path to awakening using the Lovingkindness Path (Brahmaviharas) which leads to Nibbana itself. https://library.dhammasukha.org/books.html or check Amazon How to practice Metta/TWIM Meditation https://www.dhammasukha.org/beginner---lovingkindness.html A complete guide to the meditation the way the Buddha taught: https://www.thepathtonibbana.com/ Music by Fesliyan Studios Available on all Podcast platforms like Itunes/Podbean/Spotify https://www.dhammasukha.org/ Bhante Vimalaramsi https://www.dhammasukha.org/ven-bhante-vimalaramsi.html

Hosted by Michael Whelan, Unresolved is a podcast that focuses on many unsolved murder cases and stories that have no ending. Many crimes take place and are never solved, or lack an ending. Unresolved is a podcast that focuses on many of these unsolved cases. Mary Payne is joined by Unresolved host Michael Whelan in this episode. Micheal has been interested in unsolved mysteries his entire life and decided to begin sharing them in a podcast format four years ago after following the Golden State Killer story. While his research leads to some interesting findings, he likes to put most of the focus of his podcast on cases that many people most likely haven’t heard of. Episodes of the Unfound While the Golden State Killer and Zodiac Killer stories are so easy to discuss, Mary Payne asks Michael about a few of his top episodes. They discuss a few of Michael’s Unresolved episodes and if any of them have been resolved:Larry Chism, a convict who has escaped multiple times and has been on the run for 40 yearsRobert Levinson, a freelance DEA/CIA non-typical Secret Agent who disappeared near Iran, and the scandal around his relationship with the government. Chip Cambell, a man who went missing from the southern coast of Florida under suspicious circumstances. Micheal has another podcast called Hoax that shares mini stories about people who fabricated fictitious stories about their lives. Catch up on all of the Payne in the Pod episodes, here. Today we are humbled to show case Troy Ramos. A composer of experimental music. Some times harsh and light soundscapes but flip the coin and you have exquisite minimal piano pieces. His work has been used in sound, light and video installations for art spaces (galleries, museums and art shows). "My works almost have no ending and no beginning. They are part of a loop, just like myself." This was a real treat for us to mix and there maybe a part 2 as so little material was used for this mix. Go and show some love. Tracks used... Where conventional wisdom fails, The Spoon prevails! Rob, Allen Lulu, and Johnny Dam explain how politics are more than sport, how sports are surprisingly political, the upside of steroids, the downside of childlike enthusiasm, and why unusual attraction is often the most potent. Plus, the tsunami of crazy that is the Republic National Convention meets a real-deal hurricane, and Chris and Thom check in from their assignments in the field. Music by Trinket and Mark Fletcher
We both hate Valentine's day and have no desire to take part in its consumerist pantomime. It seems to have created its own little rituals in our house though: we have an annual Valentine's hate-fest, which lasts a couple of days, where we pour scorn on both the event itself and anyone who takes part in it. The problem is, in doing so, we have sort of made ourselves part of what gets on our own nerves. Fucking people and their fucking stupid valentine's traditions like, er... this one. This is probably only the second in what will probably become an annual Valentine's Scorn-o-rama, but it already feels like a time-honoured tradition. So if you're single, generally antagonistic, miserable, lonely or just plain indifferent then this is the podcast for you. We even have an odd conversation where we wonder what the point of marriage is - a slightly bizarre thing for a married couple to start wondering about. But that's the Toadcasts for you. Morning you 'orrible lot. My wench is away being important once more. She said to me the other day when she was trying to skive off work due to a hangover: 'I can't go into work in a bad state, I handle money.' Haha, what bollocks. I love it when financial people get all delusional like that, so don't worry I set her straight. I calmly pointed out to her that if I fucked up my last job someone might have found a small metal implant buried in their spinal column. This means dead or paralysed. She stopped, fortunately. 'I handle money though.' Yeah well, I handle my penis and every last little sperm is a potential human life, so don't gimme that. The frustration's setting in again, can't you tell. This podcast has some news and some current things, and then explores the randomiser on my music library, doffing my cap to the recent Contrast Podcast episode which I was too slow to participate in. Gah. It is also my birthday on Monday, thirty-two since you ask, and we will be down in London to celebrate the occasion with our Southern friends, so there's a couple of birthday thingies in there too, most screamingly obviously the first track of course. Enjoy Toadlings, enjoy. Toadcast #16 - The Birthday Podcast 01. Clem Snide - Happy Birthday (02.18) 02. The Courteeners - Acrylic (08.56) 03. Joe Lean & the Jing Jang Jong - Sleazy Hughes (12.46) 04.
