"Be Glad in the Joy of Praying to Jesus" | Psalm 27 “Lord, Teach Us to Pray!” That's our ministry vision for 2024-2025. Through all the highs and lows of life, let's go deeper into seeking God together. To kick us off, join us as we dive into a three-week series about Scripture's teaching on the power and purpose of prayer. Let's reignite our passion for prayer and grow deeper in faith! Speaker: Albert Chung
In week four of "Be Glad", Pastor Samson preaches from Psalm 80 where the people of Israel cry out for God's grace and restoration after facing the consequences of their sins. They acknowledge their abandonment of God, which has led to their suffering and loss. He illustrates how the psalmist uses three metaphors to describe the relationship between God and Israel: a shepherd guiding his sheep, a gardener tending to his vine, and a restorer who will save them. Through this sermon, we are reminded that we often do not realize we are lost until we experience the pain of our own actions, but there is hope and redemption through God's grace. By turning to God and recognizing our need for a savior, we can find new life and salvation. Listen and be challenged.Support the Show.

In week three of "Be Glad", Pastor Rodney preaches from Psalm 78, where we see the importance of remembering and listening to God's instructions. He highlights the necessity of passing down stories of God's deeds and miracles to future generations, ensuring they set their hope anew on God and avoid the mistakes of their ancestors. This message shows us the impact of forgetting God's goodness, which leads to disobedience and a hardened heart. We are reminded of God's faithfulness and why we should focus on His promises rather than our failures, and to share the story of Jesus with future generations to maintain a faithful and obedient community. Kevin McKay preaches "Be Glad and Rejoice" from Zephaniah 3:14-20, in this Sunday morning gathering of Grace Harbor Church.
In week two of “Be Glad”, Pastor Samson examines Psalm 72, a psalm of Solomon that envisions an ideal king who embodies justice, peace, and dominion. He emphasizes that while Solomon's reign was prosperous, it ultimately fell short of the psalm's high aspirations, pointing us to Jesus Christ, the true King who fulfills these ideals perfectly. Unlike Solomon's limited and divided kingdom, Jesus' reign is universal and eternal, starting within our hearts and extending to all nations. Pastor Samson urges us to recognize that our desire for justice and peace can only be satisfied by submitting to Jesus, the perfect King who fulfills the deepest longings of our hearts. Listen and be challenged. Support the Show.
In week one of our new collection of talks, “Be Glad”, Pastor Rodney encourages us to find joy in God despite life's challenges. Drawing from the story of the Ark of the LORD's return and Psalms 68, we as believers are to rejoice in God's presence regardless of circumstances. True joy is not dependent on feelings or external factors but is rooted in faith in God. When we recognize the importance of God's presence in our lives, we will find the transformative power of choosing joy in Him. Listen and be challenged.Support the Show.
In this episode, the monthly series called “What Are the Sisters Reading?" continues. *In this, the second of a two parter, we hear more of the crazy countercultural life and times of The Incredible String Band - from the inside looking out - with Rose Simpson *Rose was one quarter of the band during what many regard as their creative and countercultural peak in the late 60s and early 70s. •Her memoir 'Muse, Odalisque, Handmaiden' is an incredible story, relating how she rocketed (as a student without any particular interest in music or the counterculture), via an accidental meeting in a Scottish mountain cottage, to photoshoots in American Vogue and playing at Woodstock - and then came all the way back again. *It's a fascinating tale, not just because the ISB were fascinating in themselves, but because it is beautifully told with a wealth of detail about a time that is usually dominated by mens' voices. •She had many psychedelic adventures along the way, narrowly escaped getting involved in Scientology and then - and then left it all behind. *And she knows where the sitars are buried... *We dived into drugs, communal life, the ups and downs of free love, the catastrophe of the cult, making it up as you go along, the mysterious life and disappearance of Rose's bandmate Licorice, going full on and far out. *Rose's memoir 'Muse, Odalisque, Handmaiden' (published by Strange Attractor) *Adrian Whittaker's compilation book Be Glad for the Song Has No Ending *Thanks to Peter Neal for the audio clips from his film Be Glad for the Song has No Ending #tripping #psychedelics #london #consciousness #scotland #scottishcounterculture #counterculture #drug #lsd #music #joeboyd #1960s #scientology #rosesimpson #incrediblestringband #begladforthesonghasnoending #woodstock #stephenduffy #hippie
They were artists, myth makers, story tellers, tribe leaders, psychedelic troubadours; they pioneered "world music” with albums like The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter; they experimented with theater, drugs, film and lifestyle and inspired The Beatles, The Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Pet Shop's Neil Tennant, The Lilac Time and many, many others. They lived the hippie dream of communes and free love, dressed like mediaeval princes and princesses, were the very essence of the Scottish counterculture, played Woodstock, became cult stars, were acid evengeleists; gathered a following, a tribe that stayed loyal to them long after they had gone.. Contractor Success Map with Randal DeHart | Contractor Bookkeeping And Accounting Services
This Podcast Is Episode 555, And It's About The Benefits Of Outsourcing For Construction Company Owners Outsourcing can offer a range of advantages for small construction businesses in today's competitive market. Not only does it reduce costs and free up valuable time for owners to focus on growing their business, but it also provides access to skills and expertise that may be unavailable in-house. Small construction businesses can streamline operations, increase productivity, and scale faster than ever by working with external professionals or firms who work in certain areas. Because a small business focuses on survival, you pay much attention to the bottom line. This makes much sense, but it also leads to being seriously overworked. Contractors are under increased pressure to cut their prices to get enough work. And that means they need to reduce costs. New technologies and approaches in cloud computing for construction accounting give forward-thinking contractors a fantastic ability to get more for less -but in most cases, contractors' heads are still stuck in 1990, thinking they have to do everything themselves. Here are some benefits of outsourcing for small businesses and how they can help your business succeed. The advantages of outsourcing for small construction businesses As a small business owner, you want to ensure that every aspect of your company is running smoothly. Outsourcing can benefit your business, including cost savings, access to special skills, and increased efficiency. By outsourcing specific tasks, you can free up time and resources to focus on core business functions. Outsourcing can also help you keep up with the latest industry trends and technologies, giving you a competitive edge in your market. So, if you want to grow your small business, consider whether this is a viable option to help you succeed. 1. Identify which services and tasks are suitable for outsourcing. When outsourcing, you must carefully consider which services and tasks are suitable for delegating to third-party providers. Factors such as the nature of the work, the level of expertise required, and the cost-benefit analysis must all be considered. For example, routine administrative tasks like data entry or customer service may be easy to outsource. Still, more complex tasks like software development or legal assistance may require a more strategic approach. Ultimately, outsourcing can offer numerous benefits to construction companies, including cost savings, improved efficiency, and greater flexibility. Still, it's essential to identify the right areas to outsource to magnify these benefits. 2. Review the cost-benefit of using a freelancer or third-party service provider. When outsourcing specific tasks, businesses have two options: hiring a freelancer or contracting a third-party service provider. Each option has pros and cons that business owners should consider before deciding. On the one hand, hiring a freelancer can potentially save money since they typically charge less per hour than a full-service agency. However, freelancers may not have the same experience or resources as a third-party provider, which could lead to lower-quality work or additional costs down the line. On the other hand, contracting a third-party provider may be more expensive upfront, but they often have a team of experts with years of experience and access to top-of-the-line technology. Ultimately, the cost-benefit analysis will depend on each business's needs and the outsourced tasks. 3. Discuss different payment options when hiring a freelancer. When hiring a freelancer, one of the critical things you must consider is how you will pay them and what payment options are available. Fortunately, several payment options can help you pay your freelancer easily and securely. These options include paying through platforms like PayPal or Stripe, using wire transfers, paying with credit or debit cards, or even choosing to pay by cryptocurrency. Each payment option has advantages and disadvantages, so choosing the one that suits your needs and budget is essential. Whether hiring a freelancer for a one-time project (like your company website) or on a long-term basis, choose a payment option that provides a safe and hassle-free experience for you and your freelancer. 4. Evaluate potential contractors' quality by researching their past work. When finding the right contractor for your projects, researching their past work is crucial in evaluating their quality. You can review their portfolio of completed projects and read reviews from previous clients to gauge their satisfaction with the contractor's work. It's also important to check if the contractor is appropriately licensed and insured and to ask for references from previous projects. By taking the time to research potential contractors thoroughly, you can ensure that you're working with a reliable and qualified professional who will deliver high-quality work on time and within budget. 5. Learn how to manage an outsourced team effectively for maximum results. As companies expand and seek cost-effective solutions, outsourcing has become a widely accepted practice in the business world. However, managing a team that is not located in the same office or even in the same country presents some unique challenges. Developing effective communication, delegation, and collaboration strategies is crucial to get the best results from an outsourced team. By establishing clear goals, providing regular feedback, and fostering a culture of transparency and accountability, you can ensure that your outsourced team is fully engaged and aligned with your business objectives. With the right approach, managing an outsourced team can increase your company's productivity, innovation, and growth. Outsource Your Construction Bookkeeping Anything not related to your core construction business is an outsourcing candidate. When I say, "outsource your contractor's bookkeeping," I do not mean turn it all over to us or any other contractor's bookkeeping service because this never seems to work well. No, I'm talking about outsourcing specific bookkeeping services related to data entry, bills, payroll processing, and preparing Quarterly Tax Returns. It is crucial that you keep control of your money. Outsourcing a contractor's bookkeeping is one of the ways to avoid bookkeeper embezzlement. Never let an outsider pay the bills, print checks, and authorize payment for payroll or any tax payments. I suggest looking at every part of your internal contractor bookkeeping service and asking yourself a simple question: is this a unique and critical part of our construction company, and is it something only we do? If so, it stays in-house and needs the brightest minds you have working on it. If not, it is a candidate for outsourcing, and you need to look at it more closely. Outsourcing a competent construction bookkeeper is a sound business decision as it gives you access to expertise and guidance you might not otherwise have, and it frees up your time and money to take advantage of other business opportunities. In conclusion Outsourcing can be a cost-effective and efficient way for construction business owners to manage their administrative tasks and focus on growing their business. It is essential to carefully consider each potential service provider's advantages and disadvantages to ensure they meet your needs. Additionally, use references and research contractors' past experiences to guarantee that you get the best possible fit. Finally, take the time to manage your outsourced team correctly so that everyone reaches maximum effectiveness in their jobs. Now might be the perfect time to evaluate whether outsourcing suits your business needs. Everyone celebrates the Holiday Season in his or her way. This is where it happens. Our church does this in two ways:We equip each other to do this where we live, work, learn and play.We model this by doing some of this together, even as we teach the what, how and why.Examples:The Shirzads: We helped Lutheran Services "Welcome" a refugee family a year and a half ago. We housed themWe fed themWe helped them get their legal benefitsWe taught them ESLWe helped them get drivers licenses and a jobWe became friends. This was probably too big for any one family in our church to do. But together we were able to do it. This not only showed us how to do it, but it equipped us to know how to do it better. Not to mention the joy it was to do. Gloo: We trained a team of people to respond to requests for prayer online. Team members prayed for these requests and in some cases began conversations that led to in-person encounters. Because most of these are now people from the Charleston area, we were also able to invite some to worship with us. As a result, some took us up on it and are reconnecting to the Lord through our local church. Our people were already praying for others in person and online. But we expanded that to people we've never met. As a church, we still do this. But each of us can pray for someone online that we have never met. We could pray for 1 person a day online simply by interacting through social media. As a result of the praying for hundreds online for the past 3 years, we will start our first online bible study dedicated to them Sunday night at 6:30. Homeless: We helped a young, unmarried couple that was homeless and living out of their car along with their puppy. We helped them with a campsite at the KOA, get food and car repairs, and map out a plan to move forward. He has a better job now than he did. One of our families gave the puppy a good home relieving them of the burden of caring for it. And they are doing well.We have multiple families who have or are fostering caring for children. We have multiple families who have adopted children from this country and from others. These children have a much brighter future than they did. Why did God create us? To do good works. What good works? The ones he created in advance for us to do? The ones that lead people from death to life through Christ Jesus.Am I doing this? Am I doing what God created me to do? On purpose for a purpose? One of the responsibilities of your church leaders is to discern how to equip, encourage, and empower our church to do good works--individually, as families and as a church family. These conversations are always happening. What's next for Grace? Here are some things that we are currently zeroing in on:Praying like it all depends on God. (Starting tonight at 6:30)Starting more Friends & Family groups next spring."Welcoming" another refugee family. But this time through World Relief.Unofficially "adopting" a mom-to-be who elected to keep her baby instead of aborting. We would pick up where the pregnancy center leaves off. We would help needy moms who choose this practically for up to a year.We want to double-down on knowing and loving our 8 closest neighbors by name; prayer-care-shareWe want to do identify a circle of influence similar to that around our church campus in Ladson. This means we'd identify a 1-5 mile radius and would take responsibility for lostness in that area. Our mission to that area would be to saturate it with the good news so that every man, woman, and child would have multiple opportunities to hear, see and respond to the gospel. This would be accomplished in many ways including:Local ministry projects in the schools; especially tutoring grades 1-3 to read and do math wellESL in homes and/or in our buildingPrayer walking neighborhoodsServing local businessesSharing the good news in neighborhoods and public spacesLooking for ways to bless the poorChampioning life at all stagesWorking towards racial reconciliationTeaching a biblical sexual ethicBeing peacemakersSports ministryCSU/college ministryWe will continue to encourage and help families foster children. We will continue to encourage and help families adopt children.Continue to champion biblical literacy and training up our children and adults in disciple-making. The ELA assessment includes a reading comprehension subtest, which assesses students' ability to understand and analyze text. The percentage of third graders passing the reading comprehension test has been increasing in recent years, which is a positive sign for education in South Carolina. However, there is still room for improvement, as nearly half of third graders are still not meeting expectations. The South Carolina Department of Education is committed to helping all students succeed in reading. The word 'inspiration' is bandied about with a bit too much alacrity these days, but Dr Gladys McGarey truly is one of the most inspirational women you'll ever meet.At 102 years old, she's still a practising doctor - she trained in conventional medicine but her innate curiosity led her to explore alternative healing therapies and she became the first physician ever to use acupuncture in the United States, where she is now known as the Mother of Holistic Medicine. She joins me to impart her considerable wisdom about how to pursue a well-lived life. We discuss the importance of gratitude, boundaries and being in alignment with our joy. We also discuss her dyslexia and how, as a child, it was left undiagnosed and made her feel that she was stupid. We chat about the long journey to find her voice - as a woman, as a wife and as a mother. She opens up about how she coped with the end of her marriage after 46 years and the shock she experiencdd when her then-husband asked for a divorce. And, in a particularly moving exchange, Dr McGarey talks about surviving the devastating loss of her daughter to breast cancer. But this is an interview which, overwhelmingly, gives us hope. As Dr McGarey says, we can all strive to live by her own mantra: BE GLAD.--The Well-Lived Life: A 102-Year-Old Doctor's Six Secrets to Health and Happiness at Every Age by Dr Gladys McGarey is a fantastic read and available to buy here.--How To Fail With Elizabeth Day is hosted and produced by Elizabeth Day. Be Glad and Rejoice Forever (4.9.23) by Sermons
March 18, 2023Today's Reading: Introit for Lent 4 Ps. 27:4-6; antiphon: Ps. 25:15Daily Lectionary: Gen 41:1-27, Mark 11:1-19Psalm 25:15: “My eyes are ever toward the LORD, for he will pluck my feet out of the net.”In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. As a pastor, when the Lord promises rescue, I secretly get scared. I've been around cancer that isn't healed. Paralytics that still can't walk. Addicts who relapse. I've heard poor sinners' desperate words and joined them in their litanies. God still said no. And I'm afraid He'll do it again. I'm embarrassed. Of my lack of faith. But also, a little bit of Him. It's easier to preach about a God who's miracles work more like a vending machine. The 27th Psalm is for my fear and shame. David shows us where to look in days of trouble. We look for rescue in the things of this world. God promises it in His house. The shelter is in the House of the Lord. The victory is given where the sacrifices are. It isn't just a “look on the bright side, one day you'll go to heaven” platitude. It's a question of which is stronger. The prayers I've wanted to be answered were rooted in a fear God wouldn't help. He already has. The temple is where He gives the victory. Forgiveness that relapse can't undo. Salvation that isn't measured in remission. Resurrection that accident and age can't cripple. The things we're so afraid of can't actually hurt us here. We are gathered in a fortress that stands as a shield against everything else. It's a question of where God works. Of how He answers prayers. The desperate litanies are met by a Jesus already risen from the grave, promising us the same. Look at where Jesus is, not where you're afraid He won't be. He's in your church, giving good gifts of victory over all you're so afraid of. In a world where everything falls down, David pleads to be found in the house of the Lord. Because it will be left standing afterwards, even as Christ is risen. Sometimes I'm afraid God will say no. Joy isn't found in the fear and the shame of it. So God lifts me up out of it and sets me on the rock, that is Christ. In Him, in His death and resurrection, I have a yes already given for me, and for you. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Why spend the day in blank despair, In restless thought the night? On your Creator cast your care; He makes your burdens light. (Rejoice, My Heart, Be Glad and Sing, LSB 737:3) - Pastor Harrison Goodman is Content Executive for Higher Things.Audio Reflections Speaker: Patrick Sturdivant, Development and Marketing Executive at Higher Things.Study Christ's words on the cross to see how you can show more Christlike grace in your life. This is Part 6 of Ronnie's latest series of talks entitled: "Simplify. Simplify." The subject is stress, and how to lighten our emotional and spiritual burdens in this ill-managed, tumultuous world. Based on Philippians 4, Ronnie follows the Apostle Paul's advice: "Be Glad. Be Gentle. Say Grace. Seek the Good." This is no silver bullet, no magic formula or elixir. It is a way of living, and it takes practice.

This Podcast Is Episode Number 503, And It's About Reclaiming Your Time And Switching Off During The Holidays Small construction company owners like you already have a time-consuming and challenging job running your business. If you're working on weekdays, you usually need the weekend to catch up on paperwork, pay bills, and manage any tasks you didn't get to during the week. But this weekend is Christmas, and with it comes time to relax, focus on family and friends and take stock of what is essential in life. Phone calls from employees dealing with a minor crisis will pull your focus from your family, or your Christmas dinner will be taken over by business talk. Like the merry bells of Christmas, your cell phone will constantly chime with the sounds of urgent text messages and emails that must be dealt with. Clients will need your attention. So, if you've been waiting for a sign or permission to pause, this post could be the one you're waiting for. It's easy to let the construction company take over your personal life, but as a small business owner, it's vital that you get some time away from work. Here are some tips for helping you switch off during the holidays. 1. Shut down entirely for the week If your business can be shut down for a week, consider closing from Christmas to New Year. It's easy to let the construction company take over your personal life, but as a small business owner, it's vital that you get some time away from work. Here are some tips for helping you switch off during the holidays. 1. Shut down entirely for the week If your business can be shut down for a week, consider closing from Christmas to New Year. Your employees will love the time off, and you won't be bothered by urgent texts about something that went wrong at the office. This time is generally not as productive for workers, as they all want to get home, be with loved ones, and celebrate the season. Just make sure you give your clients some notice that you're closing up. Good clients will respect your decision and even encourage it. 2. Have someone trained to deal with your absence A big headache for small business owners is constant calls from employees who can't carry out basic tasks or make decisions. If you plan on taking time off but are leaving the business open, have someone senior available to answer questions or take over duties other employees can't. Ensure employees are prepared for situations that could arise but can fix on their own. Can they use someone else's computer if theirs dies? If a client calls with a crisis, which staff members can handle each situation? Assign one or two people—not you—to contact people in case staff needs assistance and give those two people strict instructions about when they can contact you. You don't need phone calls on your days off because someone doesn't know how to work the coffee machine. 3. Resist the urge to plan meetings during this time When a client comes to you just before you take your days off and requests a meeting over the holidays, it can be difficult to resist that urge. That meeting, however, will take up time and space in your brain aside from the actual meeting time. You'll prepare for it, think about it, and plan what to say. If the meeting doesn't go well, it will affect the rest of your days off. Instead, push the meeting until after the holidays. Unless the situation is dire, an extra week won't hurt. Or ask another worker to attend the session for you. The key here is to delegate the tasks you don't need to do. As a construction business owner, you have regular duties that need to be done but could be better done by an expert. Doing them yourself takes up a ton of your time. Look at your tasks and determine which ones are eating up your valuable time. Virtual assistants can now be hired to handle general customer service on your behalf. Could you hire a bookkeeper? An accountant? Regardless of your current situation, if you need help, we can tailor a plan to fit your budget and your construction bookkeeping needs. You will not know whether it is a good idea until we chat. One thing is for sure - hiring outside service providers costs money, but we are worth the expense when you consider the time and energy you'll save by not taking on that tedious bookkeeping tasks. Especially when you factor in the extra personal time you'll have. We have options for your business accounting, whether you would like to outsource or do it yourself. Let's figure out a way to free some of your time and get your life back, be with your family and loved ones, and increase your cash flow and earnings while improving your quality of life and relationships. Final thoughts If you're taking time over the holidays, really take time. Don't take time off but then spend that time constantly checking for work-related texts and emails or attending meetings. Put your cell phone away. Stop checking your email. Set an outgoing email that lets people know when you'll respond to their messages, and change your voicemail to note your days off. That way, you can rest, relax, and enjoy your break. Your overall well-being is necessary to you, your business, and your community. You'll need this time to restore your energy for January. I end this by wishing you a Merry Christmas and Best Wishes of Joy this Holiday Season. Enjoy. Be Glad. Be Joyful and maybe a little sad. But try to find something to be happy and grateful for each day. What matters most are our family, friends, and loved ones - those we celebrate with, those we can't be with, and those who are with us in spirit. FUMC - "Rejoice and Be Glad" - Nov. 21, 2021 by First United Methodist Church, Charlotte
**Philippians 4:4-7** The first step in practicing peace is a little counter intuitive... Rejoice! Be glad, celebrate, take pleasure in the Lord! Not in the things of this world... though the Bible does say he gives us good things to richly enjoy, we need to remember that it is in the Lord that we need to celebrate! Be Glad! Anxiety: Experiencing worry, unease, or nervousness, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome. 1 - "Every Situation" When you talk to Jesus about the small things, it becomes more natural to talk to him about the big things. 2 - "By prayer and petition" Prayer: simple requests of the Lord Petition: An earnest or urgent request (to God) 3 - "With Thanksgiving" Peace beyond what we can understand! His peace will guard our hearts AND our minds.

Today we're talking about How to be joyful in every situation and circumstance of life by trusting God to manifest is fruit of joy and peace in your life.Joy is a Choice to Trust God to Manifest His Joy in your Life to Give you Strength to Rise Above your Circumstances.Life is full of ups and downs, and you have to make a choice, sometimes many times each day to be thankful always be joyful. Your Peace does not depend on your feelings or your emotions or your circumstances which you find yourself, but in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Presence in you.By focusing on Jesus you can ride above feelings and emotions and circumstances, to be a Victor in every situation because Christ in you gives you His Joy and Peace to withstand the external pressure to give into discouragement and despondency. The Joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold. (Nehemiah 8:10) Jesus himself has left you His Own Peace which He bequeath to you. Not as the world gives does He give to you. So Do Not let your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Stop allowing yourself to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yoursel to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled. (John 14:27)Choose Joy! Keep your Eyes on Jesus! Joy is a Choice–Daily Events Created the Opportunity to Train you to Depend on Christ. His Joy in you is your Strength, Along with His Peace to Help you Make Wise Decisions.-Heb 12:2, Jn 15:11, Neh 8:10, Col 3:15Jesus says: I have told you these things, that My joy and delight may be in you, and that your joy and gladness may be of full measure and complete and overflowing.
