I couldn't do the same thing and recap another historic home loss solo. So I invited my old college roommates (we ran the block 2011-2015) to come on and share some thoughts on just what is going with the Hoosiers, where does Indiana go, and just to ultimately console one another on what has become a season to quickly forget. Then it's onto the Indiana news, including a bit more bummer there as Indiana loses out on Derick Queen. Then it's to the conference news, including Olivier Nkamhoua electing for season ending surgery. Then it's a Hoosier History Hit. The Latest on Signgate Starts at 1:00 The developments that have developed are basically nothing. Feels like we know pretty much what there is to know, it's just a matter of what happens next from the NCAA. Michigan could be the first program hit with the NCAA's new rule of "if a staffer gets in trouble, the head coach also gets in trouble". There's some failure on the part of Warde Manuel. What is the actual competitive advantage of stolen signals? College football coaches are the most paranoid people in America. Based on how the NCAA has handled these issues, it seems extremely unlikely that anything will happen to Michigan this season. Worst case scenario would be Jim Harbaugh gets a show-cause a year or two down the road. [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Michigan Men's Basketball Backcourt Starts at 22:37 Dug McDaniel is the most established guard. Freshmen point guards can be shaky, McDaniel's trajectory for his sophomore year is encouraging. Jaelin Llewellyn is your next most established guard. We didn't see a lot of him last year since he tore his ACL but he should be full go by now. Hard to know how much we're getting back from him after his injury. Nimari Burnett transfers as a rotation player from an Alabama team that was the 3rd best defense in college basketball last year. His offensive upside is unknown, Charles Matthews is a good comparison. George Washington III was described by Dug McDaniels as a good shooter but probably won't see more than 10 minutes per game. Jace Howard is listed as a guard but it's unlikely that he'll be a lot more than he was last year. 3. Michigan Men's Basketball Frontcourt Starts at 45:38 Takes hotter than Edward Norton Jr. after seeing Connor Stalions on the sidelines at CMU and he's like "I GOT THIS ROLE. THIS IS ALL ME, BABY". Tarris Reed is your starter, who is also Not Hunter Dickinson. He was slightly better defensively than Hunter Dickinson but the offensive drop-off was much bigger. Also needs to be better than 40% at free throws! Olivier Nkamhoua was a big contributor for the #1 defense in the country last year. That is already a huge upgrade defensively at the 4. He won't solve all your problems but is a very good, veteran basketball player. Seth thinks the final starting spot is Terrance Williams II, Brian thinks it's Tray Jackson. Will Tschetter: exists. Youssef Khayat could be a guy. 4. 2023-2024 Men's Basketball Overview Starts at 1:21:19 Making the tournament is a reasonable goal for this team. Where is Michigan going to get their points from? This gets made up by the massive defensive improvements. Michigan loses Jett Howard to the NBA but Michigan was a better team without Jett Howard. Juwan Howard is still recovering from heart surgery and has not been available in the pre-season coaching. There are going to be some hiccups with this team but all the transfers coming in are very experienced players from good teams. The vibes were awful last year but should be much better this year. Over the past couple of weeks, both Michigan basketball and football reeled in a player from the transfer portal that could help in a major way during the upcoming season. For Juwan Howard, it was Olivier Nkamhoua. The former Tennessee Volunteer is expected to contribute in a major way as a 6-9, 236-pound, high-energy, do-it-all kind of player. Last year, he was the lone Volunteer to play in all 36 games and had career-bests in scoring (10.8 ppg), assists (2.0 apg) and minutes played (25.3 mpg). On the gridiron, Michigan landed UMass transfer cornerback Josh Wallace, who has played more than 2,000 snaps of college football. He's expected to start opposite Will Johnson and might just shore up the one spot on U-M's defense that wasn't rock solid. As for Michigan's offense, it might showcase JJ McCarthy and the pass catchers a bit more in 2023 than in 2022. Jim Harbaugh recently stated that last year's offense was a 50/50 run-pass split. This year, Harbaugh said things might be more like 60/40 in favor of the pass. If that happens, cool, if not, Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards are certainly ready to carry the load.

Things discussed: Ohio State vs Michigan recruiting: Maybe you guys don't want to be bragging that your scouting at OL and DB sucks. Like, it's not a flex that you didn't recruit Rod Moore, bro. Roebuck vs the the Andersons—you can say the twins are good fits for OSU if they develop into pass protectors, but if you ask St. Eds people, Roebuck's been their monster and Michigan's been on him for years…it's not like 3-stars vs two 4-stars is a fair representation. Is Ryan Day in trouble if he loses in Ann Arbor? The manner matters. Rod Moore says Ja'den McBurrows is one of the best man coverage guys on the team. He can hit. Don't pencil Amorion ahead of Ja'den. He's got to develop as a film junkie but everything else is falling into place. "Jyaire Hill is gonna play." I preview the recruiting profile, because I *love* this pickup. Think that Minter is looking at playing simpler coverages because it accesses all of these young players' abilities. We saw two busts in the spring game (Sabb and Hill) when their switching broke down. "Denard on defense." Linebacker is night and day: they have a full two-deep plus Partridge. Up front: seems like edge is a 4-3/3-4 platoon with McGregor/Stewart in the 40 sets and D.Moore/Harrell for 3-4. Portal shopping: Kicker, maybe a corner. Sam says receiver but we like what they have there. Tight end maybe? How about a fullback. Find a guy named Mack Stockbaker to be a pure fullback. Recruiting: Last guy in the picture: Prieskorn is M-OSU-PSU, with PSU the biggest fear, but none of the guys who developed those TEs are still there. Going for six guys on the OL: figure Guarnera is the center and then a 6th guy is a battle of 4 or 5 guys, like Max Anderson, Brandon Baker coming to visit, Bennett Warren might have M in the lead, Michael Uini almost put out a commitment graphic. Getting Sherrone done with OL recruiting by the end of June is great because he can help in other recruitments. Cole Cabana as a returner? Sure, but this year it's AJ Henning. Basketball: Hunter looks like he's going to sign with Kansas, which is where you sign if it's about the money because Kansas does not get outbid. Why are fans sour on Hunter? Ewing Theory potential: Michigan needs to find another guy who can play center but Tarris Reed and their portal pickups are all defensive guys. Olivier Nkamhoua? Sentiment from Tennessee is he'd rather be a pro, and college is a fallback option. Primarily a four but could slide to the five better than Tray Jackson. Hockey developments: Like the Warren pickup, ideal guy to pair with Edwards on the 2nd pairing so Truscott and Casey can be your top pair. If they get the Hobey Baker winner back they're going to have two of the best lines in hockey. Baseball: Tracy Smith has done a good job so far—seems more like Indiana Smith than ASU Smith.
Locked On Tar Heels - Daily Podcast On North Carolina Tar Heels Football & Basketball
North Carolina needs more personnel in the frontcourt. Tennessee forward Olivier Nkamhoua is in the transfer portal and would make an interesting option for Hubert Davis' team alongside Armando Bacot, Jalen Washington, and Zayden High. UNC's spring football game will take place tomorrow (Saturday, April 15) at Kenan Stadium. Last year featured the uncertainty of who would replace Sam Howell under center. That drama is gone with Drake Maye bursting onto the scene last season. The questions now involve those surrounding Maye: Who will replace Josh Down and Antoine Greene at WR? Will the lines perform better? Can Gene Chizik find LB depth behind Cedric Gray and Power Echols? Who will emerge from the RB room? What will the offense look like under a new OC? Several other Carolina teams are in action this weekend, including the undefeated (and still No. 1) women's tennis team hosting Duke in the regular season finale. The men's tennis team is also in action hosting both Florida ACC schools, along with baseball, softball, both lacrosse teams and more. Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…
Things discussed: Seth on early, talks Hank Greenberg and gefilte fish. Hockeytalk: Soft goals override everything else you do in a hockey game. Quinnipiac is the best defensive team—you don't give that team three "pick-sixes" in soft goals. Step one is don't hit three posts. The first bank was inexcusable, the second was brain-exploding, and the weak saucer pass he gave up when Michigan had a chance to tie cemented Portillo's legacy as the next Billy Sauer. Who's coming back? Fantilli could get drafted by Chicago, who would be smart to leave him in college to put off his free agent year and tank for a better pick next year. Healthy Nazar, healthy Truscott, Casey breakout, Nick Moldenhauer from the freshman class, and a portal defender (Ryan Siedem from Harvard) and LFG. Goalie? West removed his name from the portal, gives you an okay floor. All in on Brown's Mathieu Caron in the portal, but you never know who can be pried loose. COVID year guys? Would like to bring back Ciccolini, think Pehrson can move on, Granowicz? Draper & Lapointe's turn to be the 4th liners. Hoops: Looking at some big portal additions. Everybody they got can defend. Could they get Olivier Nkamhoua (pronounced Kam-wa)? Could they get Hunter Dickinson back? He's probably assessing his market value, and whether Michigan's additions are going to make them contenders. Do the additions make them contenders? It makes them VERY athletic, can be a defensive nightmare with enough spacing and scoring options to be a passable offense. Love: Do not have him be your #1 pick and roll guy. Dug changes the math there, because he's going to progress from a 20/20 ATO guy to a 25/18 guy, and that's a *massive* difference to an offense.

On the latest edition of The Michigan Basketball Insider Tim McCormick and Sam Webb reflected upon the flurry of portal activity for the Wolverines over the last two weeks. The conversation begins with a discussion about Hunter Dickinson's decision to enter the portal and the possibility of him deciding to return to Michigan. The discussion then turns to the additions of Nimari Burnett, Tray Jackson, and Caleb Love and what they'll bring to the Maize and Blue. Tim and Sam then highlight a major difference between this portal class, and ones that preceded it in Ann Arbor. Next is a projection of next year's rotation and Papa Kante's status.
