Mentorship is a critical component of personal and professional growth. A supportive mentor enables mentees to develop critical skills, make better decisions, and achieve their goals faster by providing guidance, perspective, and encouragement along their journey. Furthermore, mentors benefit by expanding their network, reinforcing their knowledge, and deriving satisfaction from contributing to the success of others. Mentorship is a valuable, reciprocal relationship that fosters learning, development, and change for both the mentor and mentee. In the podcast, Scott Miller shares his insight into how mentorship can impact individuals in various aspects of life. He offers personal stories and experiences, highlighting the importance of recognizing the potential mentorship opportunities that exist beyond traditional boundaries. By emphasizing the powerful and transformative effects of mentorship, Miller encourages listeners to actively pursue mentoring relationships that enrich personal and professional lives, and explains the 13 roles mentors play, based on information in his book The Ultimate Guide to Great Mentorship. In this episode: Unveil the importance of mentorship and why anyone can be a mentor. Decode the 13 essential roles of mentors in guiding their mentees. Realize the value of genuine feedback and vulnerability in fostering strong mentor-mentee connections. Examine the lifelong benefits that mentorship can provide for you and your career. Identify how everything from setting boundaries to celebrating matters in the mentor-mentee relationship (and some language to help you along your way!) Show Notes: 00:00:00 - Introduction, Scott Miller is a multi best-selling author, special advisor on thought leadership for the Franklin Covey Company, and a globally celebrated keynote speaker. He has previously been a guest on The Brainy Business podcast to discuss his books Marketing Mess to Brand Success and Management Mess to Leadership Success. In today's episode, he talks about his new book, The Ultimate Guide to Great Mentorship. 00:06:42 - Importance of Mentorship, Mentorship is a key part of companies' employee development plans. However, most people don't know what to do as a mentor. Scott wrote The Ultimate Guide to Great Mentorship to help people become better mentors. The book outlines 13 roles that all mentors can play, which will help them ask better questions, be more patient, and be more thoughtful. 00:10:16 - Informal Mentorship, Scott shares the story of how Bruce Williams, a radio host who has since passed away, became a mentor to him without ever knowing it. This highlights the importance of informal mentorship and how people can redefine what mentorship looks like. For example, by following favorite bloggers or podcasts, those thought leaders can be a mentor to you (even if you never talk to them and they don't know your name). 00:14:21 - The Power of Mentorship, Scott and Melina discuss the impact of mentorship on individuals and society, highlighting the importance of having a framework for effective mentorship. Scott introduces his book, The Ultimate Guide to Great Mentorship, and introduces the 13 roles a mentor can play. 00:17:32 - The 13 Roles of Great Mentorship, Scott discusses the 13 roles a mentor can play outlined in his book, emphasizing that a mentor may not necessarily play all 13 roles and why they need to adapt their role depending on the mentee's situation (you aren't just one “type” of mentor, you need to wear multiple hats during your time as a mentor). He highlights the importance of having an awareness of these roles and how they can be used to support a mentee effectively. 00:21:01 - The Importance of Validation in Mentorship, Scott shares his personal story of being validated by a stranger at a young age, which had a profound impact on his life. He emphasizes the role of the Validator in mentorship and the power of validating a mentee's genius, skill, and talent. He provides tips for how to effectively validate a mentee and how this can be a transition point for them to move towards more effective mindsets. 00:23:05 - Scott's Six-Step Closing Process, Scott introduces his six-step closing process, which includes naming what has been learned from the mentee, validating their genius, and setting them on their way. He emphasizes the importance of taking away something from each mentor session and using it to improve oneself. 00:28:34 - Caution for the Validator, The Validator role in mentoring should be used with care. Rather than validating mentees for small actions, acknowledge their genius, and give them lifelong courage to retrieve it when they need it. 00:32:41 - The Flagger Role, The Flagger is the challenger on steroids, who stops a conversation in its tracks to challenge an idea. Diplomatically flagging issues prevents potential conflict in the future. 00:37:57 - The Boundary Setter, Setting boundaries is an uncomfortable yet essential conversation that every mentor needs to have. Mismatched or unfulfilled expectations cause most conflicts in life, and setting clear boundaries is key to avoiding any potential issues. Scott provides some sample language the listener can use in their own mentoring sessions immediately. 00:41:24 - Honing in on Boundaries, It's important to have a clear understanding of each other's boundaries in mentorship. Starting with an uncomfortable conversation about boundaries can prevent future awkwardness and allow for a more productive relationship. 00:42:53 - Importance of Situational Mentorship, Scott emphasizes the importance of situational mentorship and tailoring conversations to the mentee's needs. He suggests checking out greatmentorship.com for videos and tools, and invites people to connect with him on social media. 00:44:27 - Scott's Impact on Melina, Melina thanks Scott for being a mentor to her, and Scott reflects on how anyone can be a mentor (with or without realizing it). They encourage listeners to reflect on who has impacted their lives and consider sharing their gratitude with them. 00:45:00 - What is Mentorship?, Melina and Scott discuss the meaning of mentorship and how it can be informal and brief. They encourage listeners to reflect on the mentors in their lives and consider sharing their impact with them. 00:46:19 - Reflecting on Impactful Moments, Melina encourages listeners to reflect on small or big moments that were impactful and consider who was part of them. She suggests telling mentors how they have impacted their lives and invites listeners to connect with her and Scott on social media. 00:46:30 - Conclusion, Melina's top insights from the conversation. 204: On Air Coaching with Ms. April Topic: Expanding the reach of your online courses

Tech of Business

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 29, 2021 33:09

Ready for another On Air Coaching Call? Great, today I have with me Ms. April, a voice, piano and theory teacher from Ontario Canada. I have a great affinity for Canadians because I am one! Although I've been living in the USA for my entire adult life! Anyway, let's get right into the coaching call highlights. In March 2020 (doesn't that sound like the start of every conversation lately???) April had to quickly shift from in person teaching to online teaching. And once she did, she realized that theory was something that just didn't translate as well as the other parts of her lessons… which made her go down the course creation path. April's initial goal was to have her existing students continue with their theory. That's it. Just some courses that her students could use to learn the theory outside of lessons. Using the theory books that she was already teaching, she received permission from the publisher to record herself teaching the material week by week. This is what she sent to her students. It was a solution that worked for her and her students. She received fantastic feedback from parents too! The feedback has led many parents to request that theory continue to be delivered via online courses instead of inside the lessons, whether online or in person! What can you give to your current students in order to make it more successful for them in their own learning? That's the first place that you can look to create an online course! Now that April knows her courses are successful at teaching theory, she wants to go beyond her private student base… and now we're getting into the coaching part of the call! She has tried to be present online, on both Facebook and Instagram. She has done some ads, but doesn't want to be spending a whole lot of money with that without knowing if it's really helping. She is focusing on trying to get the word out, doing interactive posts, and sharing what she's offering. She realized that instead of just trying to outright sell her courses when people would inquire, that having a little bit of a conversation with them rather than just trying to sell it to them outright was a much more successful approach. I asked her if she was interested in having a larger group of students go through the theory courses together, rather than independently which piqued her interest, for sure! Which got us talking about launch events (how fun, right?) That could be a challenge, a workshop, a webinar, etc. - or even an email sequence of some kind and get them to buy into your methods and your teaching style through some free introductory outlet. April and I chat about some ways to come up with that free content that is valuable to her audience, as well as ways to incentivize signing up right away. April's students are kids and therefore it's really talking with and to the parents that is going to lead to courses being purchased. You could do a webinar for parents - show them how getting their theory through video lessons is going to help their child be more successful, and show them exactly what their child is going to be going through in their online course. Show them that there's THIS potential. And the other way that we determined that April could have more students using her theory courses is to collaborate with and partner with other music teachers who use the same collection of method and theory books. The thought being that if other teachers were not interested in creating their own theory courses, they could send their students to April's courses and form a partnership with her. This direction is something I really hope April pursues because it's a winning one for all parties - April, the students and the other teachers. As April continues to explore launch events, she's going to want to evaluate the benefits of groups or cohorts going through a theory book at the same pace. It might include having monthly workshops or group zoom sessions to discuss a set of lessons. And it might come to a point where April has a few teachers that she works with who do those group lessons with her – these are the teachers who have all their students going through April's theory courses while they teach the method books and practical elements. There is really no limit online – right? We're always expanding! So, there's the angle of going straight to the parents and the angle of working with other music teachers… but the fundamental elements don't change: need to have some kind of launch event that will entice the other party to be open to the possibility of this format for their student/child. “It's really the teachers that use the theory, it's not the parents that go out seeking theory lessons.“ Back to the launch events… we discuss the role of an email marketing platform (I recommend ConvertKit BTW) and April's question specifically is “what would be the step by step that you would take in order to get them onto that list to then have that progression go through of the know like and trust email sequence?” The two methods of having people join your email list are through some kind of freebie that you're giving away or through the launch event. For freebies… I love when we can do a download that the parent can learn about the advantages of piano. Are you on the fence about piano lessons for your child? Here are some of the reasons why and here is an activity that you can do with your child to see if they're ready. Any time that we can educate the parent and inform the parent and excite the parent where they can translate that into the conversation that they're having with their child. It's a winning situation. When I'm working with people who work with adults, it's a little bit different because you want to make sure that whatever your freebie is is something that they can actually do. And in April's case where the student is a child, you want to make sure that what you're bringing to the table is something that the parents feel confident in. It's that it's that trust factor. We talk about linking social media posts with this type of content back to the freebie, instead of it staying in social media land. For the email sequence, I recommend a 5 - 10 day sequence of 3 - 6 emails. Here's your checklist Something really simple that they can do with their child every day or every other day Give them content in the same way that you're going to deliver content inside your course (video content, audio, pdf etc.) - they need to really connect with you and your teaching style Once the email sequence ends, send monthly emails to your list to keep the idea of piano lessons top of mind and for the parents to determine when/if their child is ready. And once the once-a-month thing becomes doable, start sending emails more often. But no more than once a week, probably. And we want these to be educational not promotional :) We wrap up the conversation with a bit more chatter about ConvertKit and using social media. If you're interested in connecting with April, her Instagram account is @msaprilsmusicstudio and Facebook is https://www.facebook.com/msaprilsmusicstudio/. Sarah Wallace shares her questions in this On-Air Coaching Call as a Sales Maven Society member wanting to refine the group offer she will build for her ideal clients. Sarah is an Enneagram Business and Life Coach who helps her clients and students enhance their visibility, messaging, sales, leadership, and overall quality of life by creating specific strategies that align with their personality, values and goals to become more life giving and less soul sucking. She is also the host of Enneagram MBA podcast, where she continues to explore the many ways people can package and market themselves based on their enneagram. The Enneagram differs from the Myers Briggs or StrengthsFinder assessments in the sense that the Enneagram identifies the motive behind behavior, and how that can shift depending on life and emotional context. Sarah plans to deliver her high value expertise in the form of a group offer to really build a community. In this conversation, Nikki uses her own experience with courses and membership to illustrate the pros and cons of either offer.  Both courses and membership rely heavily on the type of audience an entrepreneur builds. Listen to Nikki explain how to set an offer for a built-in audience, how to match pricing to audience behavior, and the power of setting expectations to avoid burnout. Nikki's guest for this On-Air Coaching Call is Geraldine Carter. Geraldine is the owner of She Thinks Big Coaching, where she helps her clients build and price services that will reduce workload while increasing revenue. Listen as she asks for Nikki's help with stories and talking points for a podcast tour she is going on. As usual, Nikki is on point with her answer on this episode of the Sales Maven Show. Nikki suggests that Geraldine first find a key point that she will be speaking about and think of a story of a client that she recently helped around this key point. You can interject this story when you bring up the point and then share the results they received once they implemented what you had discussed. Nikki suggests starting the story by talking about how CPAs can get overwhelmed and overlook the money they could save their clients and then share the example of how you had several overwhelmed clients that implemented this and were able to bring in large amounts of money once CPAs can identify what they are overlooking in their business. "We have coaches because everyone has blind spots." Geraldine is asking Nikki what phrases she should stay away from so that she doesn't make her clients feel embarrassed. Nikki suggests she remark on how common this situation is and the need for coaches to identify the blind spots and find ways to bring money into the business while serving their clients at a much higher level. Nikki also points out that Geraldine needs to take the time to tell these stories when she is a guest on a podcast because usually, it gets the host more engaged, and they ask more in-depth questions. Tell the story in a way that sounds like you are telling it for the first time and the listeners' benefit. Geraldine shares that if she had to pick one benefit of being part of the Sales Maven Society, it's that she gets the right answers to her questions fast. She says that it saves so much time, second-guessing, bandwidth, and focus. She can just move on with things because she has the answer.  Do you need answers to your questions fast? Nikki wants to invite you to join her Sales Maven Society. This is an opportunity for you and Nikki to work together. [04:46] Nikki says that Geraldine provides exceptional value in tiny little pieces of content she regularly puts out. [07:06] Nikki believes it is very important to stay in front of your email list. [08:17] Geraldine needs Nikki's support for stories and talking points for a podcast tour she is going on. [09:41] Nikki suggests looking at the topic she is speaking on and finding the key points and then think of a client she helped around this same topic. [12:22] Geraldine shares an exercise she takes her clients through. [15:20] Nikki shares how she would lay out this story. [17:28] Nikki talks about sharing the process and an impactful story. [19:46] Sometimes, people feel pressured when a guest on a podcast. Take the time to share your stories because sometimes the host gets more engaged. [20:58] Nikki shares some things to remember when you tell stories. [23:02] Nikki speaks about ways to plant seeds. [25:10] Nikki talks about ways for Geraldine to pitch her relevant podcast episodes without making it sound like she is in sales mode. [28:35] "You don't have to plant seeds every single time you answer a question, but you do want to plant seeds more often than not."  [31:05] Geraldine discusses the seeds she believes will be the most important to drop. [32:27] Nikki shares how Geraldine can drop in a seed around her custom one-on-one coaching for an accelerated four-month program. [36:00] Nikki gives her some language when she is on a podcast that might be different from what she is used to. [37:11] Geraldine shares a story that shows another issue she is having around doing things a non-traditional way versus the traditional way. [39:10] Nikki speaks about how she would word the story. Nikki's guest for this On-Air Coaching Call is Jill Shroyer. Jill is a Sales Maven Society member and the owner of Expedition HR Consulting. Jill loves dealing with sticky situations, so she helps her clients fix their situations and prevent anything sticky in the future. She needs Nikki's support around creating some custom offers and the rates she should charge for them since they aren't part of her usual offerings. Of course, Nikki is on point with her answer on this episode of the Sales Maven Show. Nikki says that as our businesses grow, we find that we have pieces or parts of what we offer that are valuable to a client without getting the full package. It is often necessary to create custom packages or even an à la carte menu with these kinds of DIY clients. Sometimes you have to test the market to find the pricing sweet spot and see what the market will pay for the new bundle. Jill loves Nikki's idea of charging a lower rate for the bundle during an email campaign to test the market and likes how that could translate down the road into more sales when she adds more to the bundle. Jill doesn't usually sell through her email list, so she will have to train her list to look for the offers. Nikki also wants Jill to set up a conversion email sequence because you can't just send out a one and done email, there has to be follow up emails for special offers. If you missed Nikki's Conversion Email Sequence Masterclass, let her know, she might put out a special offer for the videos with enough interest. Jill would also like Nikki's input on when to know that you are priced too high or if you just haven't reached your ideal client. Nikki shares that doing the testing is important, and sometimes it's just a gut check and seeing if you would feel resentful if you charged less, and if you would, then that would be a case of bless and release. But you might also not have reached the right level of your ideal client because if they are new, they might not be able to spend what you are asking even if they want to. Jill says that getting Nikki's response on items that are posted on the site is one of the major benefits she has received from being a member of the Sales Maven Society. The caliber of people in the society is amazing, these are high-quality people, so they add real value when they comment as well. Nikki wants to invite you to join her Sales Maven Society. [08:47] Jill needs Nikki's help with creating custom offers and pricing them appropriately. [11:20] Jill discusses the pricing and procedures for the packages that she has already set up. [13:00] Nikki digs into what Jill believes someone would pay for the bundle of documents that she has for hiring employees. [15:20] Nikki says that once you sell five at a given price, raise your price. [17:20] Don't be afraid to sell something and then offer something else right away. [18:52] Nikki asks if Jill is signed up for her Conversion Email Sequence Masterclass. [21:41] Nikki discusses the research she has done with email sequences and uses the same sequences for every offer. [23:27] You will know if the offer works if they buy it. [24:14] How do I know if it's priced too high or if they just weren't my ideal client? [27:11] Think about your specialty and what they need from you. Those are the people you want to put the offers in the marketplace for. [29:44] Nikki spoke about someone on her email list for three years before she bought. [33:00] Have you ever wondered what happens when you push the unsubscribe button? [33:38] Jill shares one benefit she has received from being a member of the Sales Maven Society. [36:46] Jill, thank you for being on the show! [37:19] When someone declines your offer, ask why they declined in a curious voice and see what they say. “Do you like to be right?” Nikki is excited to bring you this episode of the Sales Maven podcast. She shares some stories, and some techniques for you to think about in your conversations. You may find some new ways to think about your communication and have some new language to go with it. “Sometimes being right isn’t the best thing.” It’s all about the relationship, and whether being right is helping the relationship or hurting it. You don’t want to push clients or customers away by shaming them because, as Brene Brown says, “If shaming worked, she would be the first person in line to do it.”  This idea of being right, does it really serve you or does it cost you clients? Nikki wants you to start to notice the places where you feel compelled to point out where you are right, and someone else is wrong, catch yourself and decide how it serves the relationship. Ready to learn more?  Do you want to learn more about how to apply questions to your sales conversations? You are invited to join the Sales Maven Society. [01:22] Shout out to Mary Beth Simon for the five-star review. [02:51] Do you like to be right? Even if it costs you a client? [04:19] Nikki shares a story about a time she was placing an order. [07:26] Shaming doesn’t work, so why do it. [08:06] Nikki tells a story when she and her husband were at a hotel, and their key wouldn’t work. [11:01] The response from the hotel was, you probably didn’t do it right. [13:54] The only thing that was accomplished was they would never stay at that particular hotel again. [15:53] In your own business, where are those places you are so adamant that you are right and want to point it out to the person? [16:42] Nikki says that she has seen this issue in service-based business is when there is a creative component to what they provide. [19:42] Nikki speaks about an offer she did recently, where she had complaints from people who purchased and how she responded. [21:49] Listen as Nikki talks about a subtle situation she was involved in, where she used backtracking. [24:50] This idea of being right, does it serve you, or does it cost you, clients? Nikki's guest for this On-Air Coaching Call is Brandy Searcy. Brandy is a Sales Maven Society member and the creator of the product line Rain Organica. Brandy needs Nikki's support when she is in a situation where she is selling and purchasing. What amount of selling she should do versus asking questions to be sure it is the right fit for her brand. Listen to Nikki's answer on this episode of the Sales Maven Show. Nikki suggests Brandy has a set list of questions prepared. She needs the answers to decide if this is the right rep firm to sell her products and be prepared with a small product line presentation with the history and why it's such a unique product line. You don't want to go in desperate for the job, so there should be a fifty fifty balance of why your product line is right for them while figuring out if their firm is right for you, and you should interview no less than three to five firms before you decide which firm is right for you. Brandy felt like there was information she needed, but because the salesperson kept talking over her and acting like she had the answers to all the questions before Brandy could ask them, she didn’t get what she needed out of the meeting. Brandy didn’t feel like the salesperson was trying to build any rapport and that her product would be just one of many, which Nikki says should be a red flag. Brandy says there are so many benefits of being in the Sales Maven Society. In addition to the feedback Nikki provides, the treasure trove of videos and worksheets that are available to society members is enormous, and the community and caliber of members are unprecedented. [15:38] Brandy speaks about having a list of questions, but she didn't feel like they were the right questions. [16:30] Nikki throws out some questions that she would want to know about the rep firm. [19:25] Nikki would ask, what is your go-to strategy to get new products out to your existing customers from the relationships you already have? [22:15] Brandy felt like, during her call, she was seeking information but didn't know how to get it. [26:13] Nikki wants her to understand when you are in these situations, rapport goes both ways; it's not just your job. [28:55] Nikki suggests Brandy do the NLP mandala training in the Sales Maven Society training center. While this awareness is a bit startling it’s a good thing because enables me to let go of being so critical. Given some of the things I’ve been dealing with recently and what’s been going on in our society in the past few months I don’t think it was a coincidence that I took the opportunity finally to begin A Course in Miracles. If you have done any part of the course or you are thinking about it I would love to hear from you. I don’t think this course is meant to be done on your own and I’m seeking a variety of perspectives. I’ve gained so much from others sharing with me what their experience has been, either the insights they’ve gained or questions they still have. Lastly, what’s going on for me is in the next few weeks I am offering 30-Minute Calls to the members of the Women taking the Lead Private Facebook Group to chat about anything. It could be for coaching, for advice, to ask me anything and everything, etc. This call is for you, my only questions will be, “How can I be of service to you?” If you want in, head over to womentakingthelead.com/group to join the facebook group and schedule your call. Living “The Four Agreements” I’ve got a new series of 100% Jodi for you and it’s based on one of the most impactful books I have ever read, The Four Agreements. Last May I published a 100% Jodi episode titled, 9 Places I Found What I (Didn't Realize) I Needed. In that episode I shared 9 books that came into my life and changed it for the better. Chronologically, The Four Agreements came into my life second but it is the book I recommend most when people ask what book I would recommend to others. The reason for this is I believe the biggest thing holding us back in our lives and our businesses is our stress reactions. Our stress reactions are created by our perception of self, others and the world at large. Quite simply, the teachings in The Four Agreements enable you to change your perception so you don’t get stressed out by what’s happening. Because you don’t get stressed out and thus shut down, overreact or pretend things are okay when they are not, you can bring forth your highest self in any situation. The Four Agreements are powerful because they are simple. On Saturday, October 14, 2017 I had the pleasure of attending an event in Portland, Maine titled The Four Agreements for a Better Life. The speakers were don Miguel Ruiz, the author of The Four Agreements, and his sons don Miguel Ruiz, Jr. and don Jose Ruiz. In this and the next few 100% Jodi episodes I’m going to share with you the notes I took that evening and some of my thoughts around the material. The Most Important Agreement Don Miguel Ruiz, Sr. started the evening declaring the most important agreement is “Be Impeccable with Your Word.” It is the most important agreement because your word creates your reality. You have created the story of yourself so if you don’t like the story you have about yourself you can change it. You don’t have to be the current version of you anymore if you don’t want to. You are an artist with your words. The art you create is the story of your life. It is not real, you made it up, so you can change it at any time. Don Miguel Ruiz, Sr. issued a request to help him change the world. The way you change the world is by changing your own world. You change your world by changing the way you speak, specifically by no longer using words against yourself. Stop punishing yourself for the mistakes you believe you made. Stop attacking (and thus trying to control) other people. Respect yourself; respect other people. When you respect yourself and others you find peace. Life is Easy. We Make it Difficult. We make life difficult by adding drama to it. You will change your world by changing the way you treat yourself and your physical body. It doesn’t matter what others do. What is important is for you to enjoy your life. What really struck me in what don Miguel Sr. shared is that it was a fantastic compliment to the conversation Libby Bunten and I had in last week’s On-Air Coaching Call episode. Libby and I recorded our call the day before this event occurred so I went into this event with our conversation fresh in my mind. In that episode, Libby shared how her old story of who she is, specifically who she is for other people, was holding her back in her business and keeping her from being her highest self in her life. Not only was it keeping her from being her highest self but she could see how it was keeping those around her from being their highest selves as well. Before our coaching call Libby had already started crafting a new story for herself, however, she was having difficulty living into it. We were able to identify some things that were holding her back from truly embracing her new empowering story and some practices that would help her to more quickly integrate it into her life. The Stories that Hold You Back My clients come to me for various reasons but what is always holding them back is a story they have about who they are, who other people are, how things should be done, etc. These stories are the words that they repeat to themselves and keep them imprisoned in their current reality. Here are some examples: Stories and words that keep you from trusting others “If you want something done right you’ve got to do it yourself.” “I’m the only one who can do this.”   “I can’t trust others to do this the way it needs to be done.” You cannot grow in your business or your career or your life without beginning to trust others. It may sound like an insurmountable hurdle but there are ways to build trust slowly so you can get to a place where you can allow other people opportunities to grow as well. It can be done. It has been done. It could be yours. Stories and words that devalue your abilities “I’m not the expert.” “I’ve only been in business for X amount of years.” “My degree is in another field.” “I don’t have the letters after my name.” “Other people have so much more experience than I do.” Let’s be clear, more experience, degrees and letters do not necessarily mean better results. In fact, when I challenged one of my clients on this belief she owned up that some of her clients had hired her after hiring a so-called “experienced expert” to come in and fix what the experienced person had done. What society considers valuable is not necessarily what produces results. Please don’t devalue what you can do for your clients and customers. They need you to help them so be more confident so they can put their trust in you. Stories and words that give your power away to others “If I speak up for myself I’ll hurt this person.” “There’s no point in speaking up. They’re not going to listen to what I have to say.” “There’s nothing I can do.” “Why bother, it’s not going to make a difference.” When we give our power away, when we stop speaking up for ourselves, for what we believe and we stop trying to make a difference we mentally become a victim to our circumstances. I’m not got to water this down. This mentality has catastrophic consequences to our health, work, relationships, finances, and thus destroys our experience of joy and peace. To Sum it Up… There is NO FREEDOM in any of the stories I just mentioned and these stories attack who you really are, your highest self. They disrespect you and they disrespect others. The moral of this episode is your words create your experience. Watch the words that flow through your mind and the words that come out of your mouth. If you find the words that you think or speak upset you or limit what’s possible for you, you have a choice. You can keep going on the way you’re going and hope things get better or you can challenge your words and choose new words that empower you. “Be Impeccable with Your Word” is the most important agreement because your word creates your reality. 30-Minute Calls for the Private Facebook Group If you want to talk through any of this here is the reminder that in the next few weeks I am offering 30-Minute Calls to the members of the Women taking the Lead Private Facebook Group to chat about anything. This is my first On Air Coaching Call. With me I have Terri DeCoster who is working full-time hours between a couple of gigs but really wants to get her own business off the ground. Terri DeCoster is a Masters level counselor, certified coach, and family mediator with over 15 years of supporting adults and children going through tough family transitions. Terri has facilitated numerous workshops and groups for adults and children, as well as private coaching. Terri served as a Board member at the Kids First Center in Portland ME, and continue her work as a facilitator. Terri brings passion from her own life experience as a child of divorce and a divorced mom when helping other families navigate the minefield of divorce with health and hope. Because of where Terri is in her business and what she was requesting of me I found myself doing more consulting than coaching and that’s why you’ll hear me do most of the talking as we get into the call. Terri and I discussed: Comparing ourselves to those who appear to have it all together. The pros and cons of hiring college students to build a website or take on other technical work. How to find professionals you can trust to help with your financials and admin support. Developing branded forms to use in your business. Putting together presentations using Canva and PowerPoint. Links The Four Tendencies quiz.  It’s very important for you to understand what motivates you so you can set yourself up for success. Have you ever asked yourself if you're stuck with the way your voice sounds for the rest of your life, or if there's actually a chance that it will get stronger? How much of the way your voice sounds is actually predetermined anatomically, and how much can you influence the sound? The great news is that there's definitely room to develop and strengthen your voice over time. However, this should be treated as a long-term endeavor, since there are no quick fixes. If you have a weak voice, you will have to train it for some years for it to be noticably stronger.
