In this episode, host Pete Moore sits down with longtime friend and former investment banker, Patrick Sandone. Sandone has a diverse background in private equity, venture capital, and entrepreneurship. After earning his MBA from Columbia, he ventured into his family's automotive business, but quickly realized his true passion lay elsewhere. He eventually moved on to the firm DLJ, and eventually shifted into entrepreneurship to create the transformative GUIDE App. Designed to aid first responders, military personnel, veterans, and others in high-stress professions, GUIDE provides anonymous support, microlearning, community interaction, and wellness practices aimed at building resilience and promoting mental and emotional well-being. Listen not to learn how his own experiences and passion for personal development fueled the creation of GUIDE and the significant impact it's already making. Regarding the critical importance of anonymity, Sandone states, "If you're in some of these professions that may have a real macho culture around them, you may not want to tell other people that you're diving into this world, that you're meditating, taking wellness courses, that you're getting in touch with how you feel about things, and so on. This is completely anonymous. And for most people that have access to the app, it it may be the only anonymous way that they can jump in, and that it's a safe haven where you can get help, get support, and learn without anyone else knowing about it." Key themes discussed Founded GUIDE to support high-stress professionals' wellbeing. Hybrid business approach: Plans, gut, passion, accessibility. High app usage, ongoing clinical trial results pending. Anonymous community fosters self-improvement and reflection. Partnered with a PhD for university collaboration. A few key takeaways: 1. Personal Transformation Journey: Patrick discussed his career shift from investment banking and private equity to starting his own company after burning out. His journey from dealing with intense stress to focusing on wellness became the foundation for GUIDE. 2. Focus on First Responders and High-Stress Professions: GUIDE is specifically designed to help first responders, military veterans, and individuals in high-stress professions build resilience and wellness. The uniqueness lies in its complete anonymity, allowing users to engage in without fear of being stigmatized. 3. Microlearning and Interactive Features: The GUIDE app offers microlearning courses, interactive community support, and scheduled wellness practices like meditation and journaling. These features ensure that users can integrate wellness into their daily routines effectively and consistently, mirroring the approach to physical wellness. 4. Scientific Validation and Impact: The app's effectiveness is backed by clinical trials conducted with reputable institutions like the University of Pennsylvania. Results showed significant reductions in anxiety and improvements in overall wellness and motivation. 5. Growing Adoption and Financial Viability: Despite challenges in securing funding from public entities, the app has seen substantial adoption, including onboarding major police departments like the Philadelphia PD. The company is profitable and aims to balance doing good with financial sustainability, showcasing a new model for mission-driven businesses. This Kelly Oubre situation is a little more complicated than we originaly thought. We react to the new information from Philadelphia PD and comments from Sixers HC Nick Nurse.
Betsy joins Dawn to react to the latest trends around policing, as police chases rise and deaths caused by these incidents are also rising... Dawn expands on Philly Policing specifically - under new leadership as the 4th largest force in the nation, the Philadelphia PD community is hoping to get a grip on the city's crime trends... Besty then responds to the recent AP report (AP) — Aiming to curb the hundreds of deaths caused by police chases in the U.S. each year, a new report calls for police not to start a pursuit unless a violent crime has been committed and the suspect poses an imminent threat. The study released Tuesday by the Police Executive Research Forum, a national think tank on policing standards, follows a spike in fatalities from police chases during the pandemic and the criticism of several police departments for the increased use of pursuits, including in Houston and New York City. The report produced by a committee of experts and policing executives says police chases should be rare, noting that the danger to suspects, officers and bystanders often outweighs the immediate need to take someone into custody. "A lot of this has to do with the new thinking in policing today, which is about proportionality," said Chuck Wexler, executive director of PERF. "It's about the sanctity of life and balancing the risk to everyone. Police officers die in pursuits. Suspects die in pursuits and even citizens can be injured or die." Sgt. Betsy Brantner Smith (Ret.) began her career as a police dispatcher at age 17 and has held positions in patrol, investigations, narcotics, juvenile, hostage negotiation, crime prevention, K-9 and field training. She has been a law enforcement trainer for over 20 years. Sgt. Brantner Smith is a spokesperson for the National Police Association, a nonprofit that supports law enforcement officers across the U.S.
Retired NYPD Lt. Eric Dym joins me on this episode. He is known as the most complained cop on the NYPD but few have taken the time to hear his story. He is also the co-host of New York's Finest: Retired and Unfiltered Podcast. We have a broad ranging conversation about his career, leadership, and the Civilian Complaint Review Board in New York and how they are weaponizing punishment against good cops. Plus I highlight the work of 2 Philadelphia PD officers who faced off with an armed suspect and then I close out the episode talking about the Author of Truth and why knowing Him can bring peace and salvation. Dom welcomes Steve Keeley, ace reporter of Fox29, back onto the Dom Giordano Program for an update on crime in and around Philadelphia. First, Dom asks for Steve's answer to today's side question, asking for somebody in a duo who became less famous than their partner, which leads into a debate as to who's more famous between Paul McCartney and John Lennon. Then, Dom and Steve tell about something they've both been working on uncovering, with the two reporting that the Philadelphia Police is organizing a counter-effort to an upcoming gathering of drag racers and car aficionados that recently killed two when driving irresponsibly in Wildwood. Also, Giordano asks Keeley for updates of other stories relating to crime in the area, including a story of a carjacking in Haddonfield Road in Cherry Hill while a man was using an ATM. Dom welcomes John McNesby, President of FOP Lodge 5, Philadelphia's Police Union, back onto the Dom Giordano Program. This week, news broke that the Philadelphia Police Department would be losing its accreditation from the statewide Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission after the City of Philadelphia passed an ordinance titled the Equality in Driving Act, which largely tied the hands of Philadelphia Police officers from doing their jobs in ticketing and pulling over individuals. First, though, Giordano asks McNesby about reports he's hearing that the drag racing and drifting crew that killed two in Wildwood will be coming to Philadelphia, which McNesby confirms, telling that the department is preparing for an upcoming event that will draw them to the City. Dom welcomes in Patrick Molloy, Police Chief of Abington Township and member of the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission, to the Dom Giordano Program to discuss why the PLEAC has decided to re-vote on their accreditation of the Philadelphia Police Department. Molloy explains that a vote came up back in July after Philadelphia announced the Equality in Driving Act, which they initially argued had tied the hands of police officers in the City of Philadelphia. Molloy tells that after settling some confusion, the organization voted to remove the accreditation of the Philadelphia Police Department. Dom and Pat discuss what this means for the Police department moving forward, with Dom stressing that he hopes this pushes the hand of elected officials in Philadelphia to make the city safer and easier to police. Full Hour | In today's second hour, Dom welcomes New Jersey Congressman Jeff Van Drew back onto the Dom Giordano Program to discuss multiple issues that the Representative has been involved with over the past few weeks. First, Dom asks Van Drew why he voted the way he did in denying Finland and Sweden entrance into NATO, telling of the importance of prioritizing domestic issues over international issues, telling of the negative effects of further subsidizing more countries. Then, Dom asks for the Congressman's opinion on the ongoing January 6th trial, with Van Drew, a former Democrat, calling it a sham and show trial. Then, Giordano spends some time discussing the astronomical ticket prices offered by Bruce Springsteen, revealing ridiculous prices for the upcoming Pearl Jam concert in Camden. Then, after discussing the topic from the first hour concerning Philadelphia PD's accreditation, Dom tells that New Jersey progressives are pushing for a similar edict that got Philadelphia in hot water.
Fox29 ace reporter Steve Keeley checks back into the Dom Giordano Program, this time to discuss a news conference held this afternoon by Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw announcing the partial results of an internal investigation into the police-involved shooting of 12-year-old Thomas Siderio. First, Keeley reveals intricate details of the situation, telling that the Commissioner revealed that police officers did indeed identify themselves, flipping on their lights, and prior to shots being fired. Also, Keeley tells about the evidence presented by the commissioner regarding gun powder residue, and reveals that the department has determined that Siderio did indeed fire the initial shot. Full Hour | In today's final hour, Giordano welcomes back Pennsylvania State Representative Seth Grove to discuss a new bill he's put forward to increase natural gas production and distribution throughout Pennsylvania. Grove explains to Giordano the importance of heightening energy production, and addresses the counterargument from environmentalists who are against strengthening fossil fuel production. In addition, Grove and Giordano discuss the implications that such an action would have on national security as Biden continues to accept oil imports from Russia after the invasion of Ukraine. Then, after spending some time playing back clips from today's press conference held by Mayor Kenney and police officials addressing crime in Philadelphia, Giordano welcomes in Economist Stephen Moore, a mainstay on Fox News and senior economic contributor at Freedom Works. First, Giordano asks Moore for the reasons that we're seeing record inflation after Biden approached the issue with confusion during his State of the Union, passing blame primarily on Coronavirus rather than his policies. Then, Moore updates tells of the status of imports and exports as we ramp up for a potential war with Russia over their invasion into Ukraine, and stresses the importance of the energy sector. Also, Giordano and Moore look forward to the midterms, with Moore telling the economic strategy that Republicans must take to make an impact. (Photo by Getty Images)
Captain Tyrell McCoy, Commanding Officer of Philadelphia Police Department Recruiting, joins the Dom Giordano Program to announce a recruiting drive beginning March 7th. First, Giordano asks McCoy to provide an outlook on the department staffing, with McCoy expressing how much the department needs new recruits. Then, McCoy runs Giordano through the educational, physical, and living requirements for those considering applying, using producer Dan as an example.
