I absolutely loved the conversation I had this week with Psychologist, and CEO and creator of the Tactical Longevity Training Program, Jenny Prohaska, PhD. Jenny has been helping individuals and agencies to do the hard work that it takes to change, shift, and improve culture. Asking tough questions, getting to the cause and not the symptom is what she does best. I thought the message she left us with was one of empowerment and hope and it starts with asking "why". http://tacticallongevity.com/https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenny-prohaska-phd-tacticallongevity/I work with the people everyone else turns to in a crisis. That means law enforcement, fire service, emergency medicine, trauma teams, and high-stakes leaders. And I help them stay durable under pressure. After years on the clinical front-lines treating trauma, brain injury, helping people adapt to life altering physical injury in both an academic hospital setting and in private practice, I saw firsthand what breaks people. I also saw what makes them come back stronger. That became the foundation of Tactical Longevity.Tactical Longevity is not therapy. It's applied psychological science engineered for high-stress, high-stakes environments. It's designed to build anti-fragile professionals who lead better, think clearer, and recover faster when the pressure is on. My background includes:- Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, University of Kansas- Former Assistant Clinical Professor, University of Kansas Hospital Systems- Fellowship-trained in neuro-rehabilitation, brain injury, and forensic assessment- National presenter for International Association of Chief's of Police, FBI National Academy Associates, National Tactical Officers Association, and others- Developer of over 24 peer support teams across the nation, with consultation on nearly 50- Force Science Certified with specialization in Officer-Involved Shootings, Critical Incidents, and high-impact occupational injuries- Culture and organizational psychology for tactical teamsToday, I train leaders and teams across public safety, trauma medicine, and high-risk industries, delivering performance systems that reduce failure, shorten recovery, and prevent long-term psychological degradation. If your role doesn't allow for failure, burnout, or extended breaks, we should talk.Thank you for taking the time to give this podcast a listen. What really happened the night of the Breonna Taylor raid? In this episode, retired Louisville Sergeant John Mattingly shares his firsthand experience from the 2020 police operation that became a national flashpoint. Shot in the leg during the raid that left Breonna Taylor dead, Mattingly takes us beyond the headlines and social media narratives. From his upbringing in Portland, Louisville, to the pivotal moments that led him to a 20-year career in law enforcement, Mattingly recounts the intensity of working narcotics, shifting street dynamics, and the mental toll of policing a city on edge. We go deep into the night of the raid, what the warrant said, how entry unfolded, and the seconds before the first shot. Mattingly discusses the aftermath: public outrage, personal trauma, and even a $50,000 bounty placed on officers' heads. He also reflects on the broader failures of law enforcement training, public perception, and media framing.  Guest bio: John Mattingly is a retired Louisville Metro Police Sergeant with over 20 years in law enforcement, including high-risk narcotics work and undercover ops. 38-year-old Dyshan Best was asked a simple question. To step out of the vehicle for a pat search. Officer Erin Perotta of the Bridgeport Police Department was looking for a gun after responding to a call about a big fight. Best agreed to step out of the vehicle and be searched, but instead blasted past Perotta. She pursued on foot, joined by officer Yoon Heo. When Best made he way down an alley, he displayed the firearm that the officers had been looking for. A dangerous situation escalating and a weapon in Hand, Heo had to use lethal force to stop the threat. Now people unfamiliar with the danger and the weight of carrying a badge want to weigh in and say Best was taken down unnecessarily, and from behind, rather than admitting compliance was his safest option. Last week in Charlotte County Florida, dispatch received a call about a disturbance just outside of Punta Gorda. Deputies arrived and made contact with owner of the property, Elroy Clark. Clark said one of his tenants was acting erratically. During the investigation, deputies were told that Clark may have had a warrant and asked dispatch to confirm it, and it was. More deputies were called to assist. They attempted to detain Clark, but he resisted. He became agitated and non compliant to verbal commands. Tasers, batons and OC were deployed to little effect. Deputies attempted to tackle, subdue and restrain Clark unsuccessfully. Less lethal munitions-- bean bag rounds-- were deployed, and finally Clark charged a deputy, who used his service weapon. Clark was struck, and aid was rendered by deputies until EMS arrived, however Clark was died at the scene. Former police officer Eric Tansey will take you through this use of force, using his experience with excited delirium and suspects resisting arrest to inform you the police officer's opinion on these events. Seabaugh Refused Sobriety Tests Suspect's Record Revealed in Officer-Involved Shooting   All of this and more is coming up on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe!    BREAK: CU of GA STORY 1:  Two Special Elections Schedules OK'd by Elections Board The Cobb Elections Board approved two potential schedules for special elections to fill the District 2 and District 4 seats on the Cobb County Board of Commissioners. The exact schedule depends on whether a December runoff occurs for the November general elections. If no runoff is needed, primaries would be held on February 11, 2025, with the general election on April 29, 2025. If a December runoff does happen, primaries would move to March 18, 2025, and the general election to June 17, 2025. This decision follows a legal dispute over a home rule map that led to the cancellation of previous primaries and general elections for these seats. Commissioner Jerica Richardson's and Commissioner Monique Sheffield's terms end on December 31. STORY 2:    Police: Rep. Seabaugh Refused Sobriety Tests State Rep. Devan Seabaugh, R-Marietta, was arrested for DUI Thursday night after a crash involving a cyclist on Memorial Drive in Atlanta. Seabaugh, who refused sobriety and breath tests, denies being intoxicated, claiming he had only one beer hours earlier. A GSP report noted he exhibited signs of intoxication and was unsteady. The cyclist suffered minor injuries and was unsure if he was hit. Seabaugh, driving with three other passengers including fellow state reps, faces multiple charges. His case will be heard on September 4. Refusal to take sobriety tests may lead to a license suspension under Georgia's implied consent law. STORY 3:  Police Share Record of Suspect in Officer-Involved Shooting Nathain Jenkins, 32, of Valdosta, was shot and killed by Cobb police at a Smyrna Walgreens on Friday evening during an altercation. Jenkins, who was armed, had multiple outstanding warrants from Lowndes and Fulton counties. Authorities are investigating a possible link between Jenkins and a previous vehicle pursuit that occurred weeks earlier. Cobb Police Chief Stuart VanHoozer confirmed the officers involved have been placed on leave and expressed condolences. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the case and is seeking witnesses.     We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. The agreement would start with the cities splitting $6.5 million in the first year, increasing by $500,000 annually. This comes after a dispute over reimbursement for essential services led to mediation between the county and cities. The agreement must be approved by the commission and all six city councils by October 31 to avoid state sanctions affecting grants and permits. STORY 5:  Man Indicted in Slaying of KSU Student Samuel El Harris, 21, has been indicted on murder charges by a Cobb County grand jury in connection with the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Alasia Franklin at Kennesaw State University on May 18. Harris faces charges including felony murder, malice murder, and aggravated assault. The shooting occurred after a dispute outside the Austin Residence Complex. Harris, Franklin's ex-boyfriend, is accused of hiding her cellphone and car after the crime. Franklin, a KSU student government senator, was remembered for her dedication and service. Harris remains in Cobb County Jail without bond. We'll be back in a moment.   Break: INGLES 7 STORY 6:   Bounce for Pounce Scores for Cat Rescue Efforts Pounce de Leon hosted its “Bounce for Pounce” tennis tournament at Lost Mountain Tennis Center on August 11, raising funds for their cat rescue group. Twenty-four players competed, with James Smith and Kim Keller emerging as top scorers, winning prizes organized by Lisa Gardner. Pounce de Leon rescues homeless and abandoned cats, working with Petco stores and 50 foster homes across Atlanta. Since its founding in 2023, the group has adopted 192 cats and provided trap-neuter-release services for 250 cats. The event, supported by Sprouts Farmers Market and Costco, contributes to addressing cat overpopulation in Georgia. STORY 7:     Motorcyclist Killed in Maxham Road Collision Alejandro Garcia-Zavala, 26, was killed in a motorcycle crash Sunday night in Austell, Cobb Police report. Riding a 2016 Honda CBR 650 southbound on Maxham Road, Garcia-Zavala lost control near Pontiac Circle around 10:36 p.m., striking a curb and guardrail before being ejected into a creek. The motorcycle came to a stop in the median. Garcia-Zavala was pronounced dead at the scene.
