(AP) — Police departments across the United States are reporting an increase in their ranks for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic and... George Floyd's death... which led to a historic exodus of officers, a survey shows.More sworn officers were hired in 2023 than in any one of the previous four years, and fewer officers overall resigned or retired, according to the 214 law enforcement agencies that responded to a survey by the Police Executive Research Forum, or PERF. As more and more officers left, many of the departments had to redeploy stretched resources by shifting officers away from investigative work or quality of life issues such as abandoned vehicles or noise violations to handle increases in crime and, in some cases, the shortages meant slower response times or limiting responses to emergencies only, police officials say... The survey shows that while small and medium departments had more sworn officers than they did in January 2020, large departments are still more than 5% below their staffing levels from that time, even with a year-over-year increase from 2022 to 2023. The survey also showed smaller departments with fewer than 50 officers are still struggling with a higher rate of resignations and retirements. (KUT Radio)Charges have been dismissed against 46 people arrested at a protest Wednesday on (University of Texas) Austin's campus, Travis County Attorney Delia Garza said."Legal concerns were raised by defense counsel, we reviewed each case individually and agreed there were deficiencies in the probable cause affidavits," she told KUT in a text. "The Court affirmed and ordered the release of the individuals." Nearly 60 people were arrested for allegedly trespassing during the pro-Palestinian demonstration. Garza said her office would continue to review cases to determine whether prosecution "is factually and legally appropriate..." The protest, organized by the Palestine Solidarity Committee, was met by a multiagency show of force. State police responded by request from UT President Jay Hartzell and Gov. Greg Abbott, who characterized the protest as violent and anti-Semitic. Officers from the Austin Police Department, UT Police and the Department of Public Safety attempted to clear the university's south lawn. Dozens of protesters were arrested for criminal trespassing, a misdemeanor akin to loitering, or disorderly conduct, which is also a misdemeanor. Read more. (New York Post)A New York Home Depot has deployed a guard dog — and other stores may be close behind — to protect shoppers from aggressive migrants and thieves flooding their parking lots, The Post has learned. Two men wearing MSA Security caps and bulletproof vests with a German Shepherd in tow patrolled the Home Depot in New Rochelle on Tuesday... The guarded New Rochelle lot was quiet and no migrants loitered there when The Post visited this week, however, seven miles away in Throggs Neck, The Bronx, at least 30 male migrants hovered at the doors of Home Depot. Some were day laborers simply trying to “shape” for work with local contractors. But many others aggressively confronted shoppers, trying to sell them phony Apple Airpods or soliciting tips for lifting items from shopping carts into cars — even when uninvited. “You come out and you're a woman by yourself, they literally leech onto your wagon, and you're like ‘No, I don't need any help,'” one worker said. “And when they're following you to your car, it's unnerving.” She said a female supervisor saw one of the men washing his privates with a water bottle in the lot, and that several women have called customer service to complain that migrants robbed them of purses or phones. She's seen the number of grifters in the lot swell as the migrant population in New York City explodes. “I came to work one day and there had to be 100 guys out here,” she said. “And I'm like, ‘Oh, my God!...'” Customers frequently complain about the crush of migrants, said LaurieAnn Masciocco, who works in the store's customer service department. “It's come to the point where they're invading personal space, touching people's belongings, just harassing,” she said. Read more.  (Los Angeles Times)Los Angeles officials — eager to ease the city's reliance on police officers for handling nonviolent mental health emergencies — have launched a new pilot program that sends unarmed civilians with training to respond to such calls.Modeled after a heralded program out of Oregon, city officials said the so-called Unarmed Model of Crisis Response has two teams of mental health practitioners available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for situations that would typically fall to police, such as conducting welfare checks and responding to calls for public intoxication and indecent exposure. The program, run by the office of the city administrator, is so far operating in three police divisions... with plans to evaluate its performance after a year and potentially expand... The program is based on the “Cahoots” model, named for a Eugene, Ore., nonprofit widely considered the gold standard in mobile crisis intervention. The program, started in 1989, today handles about 20% of the mental health calls for the city of around 180,000 by dispatching teams of specialists trained in counseling and de-escalation... In New York, officials cited staffing and training issues as reasons why a Cahoots-style pilot fell short of its goal of rerouting at least 50% of mental health calls away from police. Read more. AS WELL AS THE NYPD TELLING NY LEADERSHIP TO SKIP THE FUNERAL... ARE WE AT A CROSSROADS FOR POLICE SUPPORT? STEPHANIE DILLER SPEAKS OUT...  (AP) — Faced with gaping vacancies in its police force and concerns about public safety, the Philadelphia Police Department had to think creatively about how to get more candidates in the door. The answer? Fewer pushups. The city's move to lower requirements for the entry physical exam at its police academy is part of a broader effort nationally to reevaluate policies that keep law enforcement applicants out of the job pool amid a hiring crisis. To close the gap, policies on tattoos, previous drug use, physical fitness and college credits are all being reconsidered. Los Angeles is offering housing subsidies. Other departments, like Washington, D.C., are offering signing bonuses of more than $20,000. Several states have expanded eligibility to noncitizens, while others have changed the minimum age of officers to 18. Read more. Will these changes help solve the nation's law enforcement shortage? How risky is it to lower standards? (Fox News)The NYPD's Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA) sent a damning letter calling out far-left Democratic leaders in New York City for their anti-police and soft-on-crime policies and telling them to stay away from the funeral of slain Officer Jonathan Diller. The 31-year-old father died Monday after a violent ex-con with 21 prior arrests allegedly shot him in the stomach when police approached the car where the suspect was sitting in the passenger seat. "I'm sure that many elected officials will attend PO Diller's funeral, shed a few crocodile tears, and prominently seat themselves for a good photo opportunity," SBA President Vincent Vallelong wrote in a letter to union members. "The sad reality is we don't want them there..." Vallelong said he found it infuriating to see city politicians who have supported movements to "defund" police and let criminals out of jail posting politically motivated condolences on social media. The answer? Fewer pushups. The city's move to lower requirements for the entry physical exam at its police academy is part of a broader effort nationally to reevaluate policies that keep law enforcement applicants out of the job pool amid a hiring crisis. Other departments, like Washington, D.C., are offering signing bonuses of more than $20,000. Is Zeoli's pizza oven the cause of our climate crisis? Formula One racing in Vegas took a hit after a car blew up after race officials did not secure manhole covers to the ground. But they are partnering with Porsche and looking to develop an alternative fuel that isn't electric. All these celebrities are threatening to leave the U.S. if Trump is re-elected. Who cares? Snoop Dogg is giving up “smoke.” This is very much a marketing ploy for something marijuana knowing Snoop Daniel Turner, Director of Power the Future, joins the show to give us a breakdown of what actually happened at APEC this past week and the climate policies that will be adopted as a result of this meeting. The climate change system works the same as communism because the elite and powerful don't have to play the same rules as everybody else. Did China have to give up anything? No, Biden took all the blame for the “climate crisis” and let China off the hook. 23 of 25 of the most polluted cities in the world belong to China, while the other two are India's, so why are we taking all the blame and being the victim? Hour 2 - Kaitlyn Jenner is back in the news. Why? Well, she used a word online that is now frowned upon. But she spelled it wrong and the internet is letting her know. Michael Rapoport is in the news as well for saying he might vote for Donald Trump. OOOOOOOOOOOOOH Look at me! Where do we stand on self-checkout if you have over 20 items? Hour 3: Drive @ 5 - Sergeant Betsy Smith of the National Police Association joins us to break down the history of the Thin Blue Line, the banning of it in Springfield Township and how that came to be, and other attack against the symbol across the nation. What will come of that? More on Sergeant Smith's background as well. The Mainstream Media is panicking as they have a floundering candidate with an even worse one waiting in the wings, so they have no choice but to turn up the hateful rhetoric. So Johnathan Karl is doing his part by releasing a book that has the sole intention of swaying voters away from Trump in 2024.  The Philadelphia Marathon will take place this weekend with a new non-binary category. How do you qualify for that? Mike is calling BS on CNN as they go after him ahead of the election next year. One of his former staffers says he skipped an evangelical campaign event in Iowa, but have they forgotten he had sister's funeral? Which Presidents have had encounters with UFOs?  Hour 4 - The Zeoli Show in-house economist Dr. EJ Antoni joins us to end the show and details how he's using the White House's own numbers to point out how poorly they handled the economy and the continued gaslighting of citizens that things aren't that bad. Terrible energy policies have crippled us but instead we bend the knee to foreign adversaries to pump more oil for us instead of doing it ourselves for cheaper. What is the ‘Death Cross'? Health insurance costs have “dropped” 35% over the last year? No way, find somebody who had their costs dropped at all this year.
