"With this last stand, Amos reveals God's plan to rebuild & restore Israel. This entire time, Amos has been relating the discipline of a good Father longing for His own to return to Him. Garrett Weir takes us through Amos's fourth vision and the judgment that accompanies it. We see the Lord's anger against Israel's sin finally coming to fruition. The Lord had shown Israel grace and patience for so long, but their religious masks were finally too repulsive to not discipline them. In their hearts, Israel hated the Holy days, cheated people, sold their kinsmen into slavery, and worshipped idols. God does not tolerate fake faith.

Faithful to His promise, pride comes before a fall..."

This is the first time we experience the "vision" portion of Amos's ministry and we see how His interactions with the Lord reminds us of Moses (Exodus 32) and point us towards Jesus. Through a funeral poem, God displays His heartbreak over the specific sins of Israel. He also offers them a simple way back to Him: turn around. Just as He spoke through the prophet many years ago, He is speaking through the Church to the rebellious world today. Central to the entire message of the Bible is the call to return to the Father, that God has made a way back to Himself.

As God continues in His charges against Israel, He shows them one of their greatest errors -- ignoring His voice. This slippery slope that lead to Israel's fall is still a present danger to us today. If we are not intentional in our devotion, obedience, and service we will find ourselves on a downward trajectory that begins with ignoring His voice and leads to forgetting His voice altogether.

After a harrowing list of judgments against the surrounding nations, God turns His attention to Israel: His covenant people. Foolishly believing that their covenantal status secures them in His favor, Israel meets the harshest judgment from the Mighty Roaring Lion. The stricter judgment and punishment is based upon the higher calling that Israel was meant to carry out but failed to do. Her judgment serves as a reminder to be faithful to the life we've been called to live.

As we being the Year of a Public Faith, we turn our attention to the prophets, particularly Amos. A humble farmer from the southern kingdom of Judah, Amos comes with a scathing message or judgment against Israel. Amidst abounding prosperity, Israel thought they could get a pass on sinful and wicked living because they were "God's chosen people." However, the arrival of the farmer-prophet from Judah stands in direct opposition to their false claims and begins to show Israel that they are far worse that the pagan nations and the slipping Judah around them.

Our study continues in Matthew chapter 5. The next three chapters, chapters 5 thru 7 are commonly known as the Sermon on the mount. Matthew presents Jesus as the Messiah, the King of Israel. Dr. Mitchell calls these chapters, "The proclamation of the King". He likens these to the inaugural address of the president of the United States of America. Jesus is addressing His citizens, the Jewish people of the nation of Israel of His day. Dr. Mitchell shares with us the character of the citizens of the kingdom of the King found in verses 3 thru 9. Dr. Mitchell takes us through these verses one by one. Dr. Mitchell points out the distinct differences between Jesus' kingdom and rulers of this present age. What a contrast indeed.Let's turn in our Bible to Matthew chapter 5 with Mr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

1 in 16 people in the US are affected by fibromyalgia, and 1 in 13 women specifically—that's about 6.4% of the population. To put these statistics in perspective, breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women, cervical cancer affects 1 in 13 women, and colon cancer affects 1 in 25 women and 1 in 23 men. Despite the similarity in prevalence, fibromyalgia has a long way to go in terms of awareness and medical training when compared to these other conditions.  In our mission to improve this, a critical avenue for increasing awareness has been obtaining official proclamations for states to recognize May as Fibromyalgia Awareness Month and May 12th as Fibromyalgia Awareness Day. Governor's Proclamations are powerful tools that help advocates validate the struggles faced by fibromyalgia patients and garner support from state officials. This can lead to increased funding for research and better resources for those of us living with fibromyalgia. Today, Tami is joined by her best friend and fellow advocate, Melissa Swanson. A few years ago, Tami and Melissa decided to bring together their communities, along with several other fibromyalgia organizations, and coordinate the efforts to obtain a Governor's Proclamation in every state. Their goal is to "color the map purple" for fibromyalgia awareness, and Melissa is the coordinator for this effort.
