What can marathon training teach us about effective leadership? In this thought-provoking episode, we're joined by Celia, Executive Director of the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy, who draws fascinating parallels between conquering 26.2 miles and navigating the challenges of executive leadership.Celia shares how she transformed from someone who "loathed running" during her time at West Point to a four-time Dopey Challenge finisher, and explains how this journey equipped her with crucial leadership skills. Her framework comparing her first month as Executive Director to the stages of a marathon offers brilliant insights into perseverance, mental toughness, and strategic thinking."It's 100% mental," Celia explains about both running and leadership. "The hardest barrier to overcome is in your head." From battling imposter syndrome to finding creative solutions during uninterrupted runs, her experiences demonstrate how physical discipline builds professional resilience. We also welcome back Matt Bowen, known for carrying the American flag during runDisney races. Matt updates us on his fundraising efforts for Operation 300, supporting Gold Star Families, and shares moving stories of connections made along the race course. The 2025 Formula 1 Season is HERE. It's Round 9, the Spanish Grand Prix - and Oscar Piastri took the win ahead of Lando Norris & Charles Leclerc. We dissect the controversial collision between Max Verstappen and George Russell, an incident that saw Verstappen receive a 10-second penalty and three penalty points, putting him just one point away from a race ban. The clash, which occurred after a late Safety Car period and initial contact with Charles Leclerc and Russell, sparked intense debate. George Russell firmly stated, "it felt very deliberate," while Max Verstappen dismissed inquiries, saying, "Does it matter? Yeah, okay, that's great. I mean, I prefer to speak about the race than just one single moment," and expressed frustration with "racing standards." Analysts like Nico Rosberg called the penalty "very lenient," arguing it "looked like a very intentional retaliation," drawing parallels to the 2017 Vettel-Hamilton incident in Baku and the 1997 Schumacher-Villeneuve clash in Jerez. Christian Horner acknowledged the penalty but expressed frustration, and Toto Wolff noted a "pattern" in "great ones" needing the world against them. Beyond the on-track drama, we explore the mysterious absence of Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll from the Spanish Grand Prix. The team cited an "unforeseen medical issue" and "discomfort" for his withdrawal, but the vagueness of the explanation fueled widespread speculation in the paddock. Theories range from internal team tensions and performance pressure to undisclosed injuries or even sensitive contractual discussions. This episode unpacks the incident's complexities, the differing perspectives, and the lingering questions that continue to shape the narrative of the 2025 Formula 1 season. Join the conversation! Episode Show Notes: May 22, 2025 Welcome to the Scuderia F1 Podcast! Tonight we're recapping the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix weekend was a thrilling and controversial affair, ignited by Lando Norris's sensational pole position, narrowly edging out Charles Leclerc. However, the grid was dramatically reshaped by multiple penalties, notably Lewis Hamilton's three-place drop due to an "inaccurate radio message" leading to impeding Max Verstappen, and Lance Stroll's cumulative demotion to the very back. Race day saw Norris convert his pole into a commanding victory, marking his first Monaco win and second of the season, contributing to a fantastic double podium for McLaren. The drama continued with early incidents like Gabriel Bortoleto hitting the wall and Pierre Gasly colliding with Yuki Tsunoda, highlighting Monaco's unforgiving nature. Adding to the controversy, George Russell received a drive-through penalty for skipping the Nouvelle Chicane and controversially ignoring team advice to return the position, claiming Alex Albon was driving "erratically". The new mandatory two-pit stop rule also sparked debate, with drivers like Carlos Sainz calling the race "manipulated" and Max Verstappen stating it "didn't do anything" for racing at the front, ultimately shifting chaos to strategic manipulation rather than on-track overtakes. Have you spotted the hats and shirts with "Pelkey Running Club" at recent runDisney events? What began as a one-time costume joke has blossomed into a global running phenomenon, and we're bringing you the full story straight from the source. We sit down with Grant, the club's founder, and John Pelkey himself—the beloved runDisney announcer who went from joking about runners' early wake-up calls to having his name on gear worn on all seven continents. Their chemistry is infectious as they share how a spontaneous gift of four embroidered hats at the 2023 Princess Weekend sparked something neither could have anticipated. As Grant puts it, the Pelkey Running Club is defined by one word: "community."Ravi joined us for the Race Report spotlight, and we wrapped up this week's episode by drawing inspiration from our friends Tomi and Chad who completed the grueling Keys 100 race, this weekend.Pelkey Running Club LinksInstagram: @pelkeyrunningclubRunning Club Gear John's St. Jude FundraiserRise and Run LinksRise and Run Podcast Facebook PageRise and Run Podcast InstagramRise and Run Podcast Website and ShopRise and Run PatreonPassport to RunRunningwithalysha Alysha's Run Coaching (Mention Rise And Run and get $10 off)Rise and Run Podcast Cruise Interest Form with Magic Bound Travel Send us a textSupport the showRise and Run Podcast is supported by our audience. It's been a time of big ups and downs, as Sandoval navigates life as an elite runner, with a full time job. Her performance at the recent USATF cross country national championships, held on January 11 in Lubbock, Texas, was a high point, after a period of serious injury. Sandoval shares how it all went down at the national championships, from her point of view. And she shares the details of what running life has looked like over the past few years, including another surprise incredible performance, in her debut marathon: it was both a heartbreaker and a performance beyond expectation. Hear the whole story in this episode. This episode is part of the WRS Race Report series. Each episode features a top 10 performer sharing her experience at one of the USATF National Championship races (the year-long series aspect of these races is apparently no more). Next up on the calendar is the USATF half-marathon national championship, March 2 in Atlanta, GA. There will be a WRS race report episode shortly thereafter. You can catch up on all the Race Reports on our website or on your favorite podcast app. How to Keep Up with Jennifer Sandoval Instagram: @thatgirljenny Mentioned in This Episode Renegade Running: renegade-running.com Support Our Supporters Lagoon Pillows: lagoonsleep.com/WRS15 Use the discount code WRS15 for 15% off your first order YMR Track Club: ymrtrackclub.com Use the discount code WRS20 for 20% off your purchase To support WRS, please rate and review the show iTunes/Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/womens-running-stories/id1495427631 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4F8Hr2RysbV4fdwNhiMAXc?si=1c5e18155b4b44fa Music Credits Cormac O'Regan, of Playtoh Coma-Media, via Pixabay RomanBelov, via Pixabay penguinmusic, via Pixabay SergePavkinMusic, via Pixabay chillmore, via Pixabay Ways to Connect and Engage with Women's Running Stories Over 50, Sub 20, 5k Project Instagram: @over50sub20_5k_project WRS Instagram: @womensrunningstories Facebook: facebook.com/WomensRunningStories Website: womensrunningstories.com Email host Cherie: clouiseturner@gmail.com Women's Running Stories is a proud member of the Evergreen network: https://evergreenpodcasts.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. What's it like to race 240 miles? (No, not a typo.) That's what Thomas Odom did in October, and he came on the podcast to tell us all about it. The gear, the crew, the challenges, and the fueling . . . he shared it all.
This week, Allison was back to tell us all about her experience at the 100K World Championship race in Bengaluru, India! We heard about the course, the team dynamics, the crew setup, and the race itself. Allison was able to finish 3rd on Team USA by taking 12th overall and 3rd master. She won her age group to boot!) That was good enough to help the American women finish as the third team.

What if running could be the ultimate antidote to life's challenges? Meet Erin and Stephanie, two incredible women who defy the odds by lacing up their running shoes even in the face of cancer. Their stories of grit and humor are nothing short of inspiring, as they share how they've managed to run marathons amidst chemotherapy and surgeries. This episode isn't just about resilience; it's about connecting through the sport we love and finding strength in the shared mantra: "FU cancer!"After talking with Erin and Stephanie we turn to three college friends turned avid runners, Natalie, Kaitlin, and Hannah, and started a running podcast of their own. The Stride Sisters share their stories weekly about running and, especially, running at Disney - a topic to which we can certainly relate. Our conversation extends to the delightful news of the Fluffy Fizzies relaunch and the entrepreneurial spirit of sisters Michelle and Pam, whose passion for business has spanned over two decades. In the Race Report spotlight, the mother-daughter team of Julie and Emmy join us to talk about the inaugural running of the Every Woman's Marathon. No less than 15 Rise and Run friends completed this race, and for more than half of them, it was their first marathon. I hope we don't wear out the PR bell.In the Race Report, we celebrate the diversity of our running community, with race reports spanning the globe—from Boise to New Zealand. As we wrap up, the call to action is simple: join us for our next Zoom meetup and keep the running spirit alive, even as the training stakes rise.
