Formula 1 is officially back — and the 2026 season kicked off with a chaotic and fascinating Australian Grand Prix.In this episode of the Everything Trackside Podcast, Seán, Coops, James, and Mairéad break down everything from the season opener in Melbourne. George Russell took the victory in a race packed with overtakes and strategy battles, while Ferrari once again managed to become their own worst enemies on race day. The team also dives into one of the biggest talking points of the weekend — the new engine regulations. Qualifying in particular sparked major debate, with drivers losing huge speed on straights due to energy harvesting and downshifting mid-straight, something many fans and drivers found frustrating to watch. Despite the qualifying controversy, the race itself delivered plenty of action, with over 120 overtakes compared to just 45 last year, showing that the new era of Formula 1 might still produce exciting racing. The crew also rate the race, discuss the biggest winners and losers from the weekend, debate whether the new regulations need fixing, and look ahead to next week's Chinese Grand Prix.Checkout this amazing video of Lynda Britten - https://youtu.be/kdkXVmnjSI0
In a rather shocking twist, BOTH Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were disqualified from the Las Vegas GP for a technical fault, excess plank wear. The same thing that afflicted Ferrari back at the Chinese Grand Prix. A big loss, right there! All of this great news for Max Verstappen whose win brings just 24 points behind Norris with two rounds and a sprint to go. Meanwhile, Mercedes secured another double podium at the track whilst many midfield runners like Sainz, Hulkenberg and Hadjar excelled in what is a crucial squabble there.Who else won, lost or were just plain meh?The 2025 F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix WINNERS & LOSERShttps://youtu.be/ZLig20TuntA

Harry Benjamin is joined by McLaren Formula E driver Sam Bird and the BBC's F1 correspondent Andrew Benson to reflect on Lewis Hamilton's sprint win at the Chinese Grand Prix – his first victory as a Ferrari driver. We also look ahead to Sunday's race where Oscar Piastri starts on pole position – his first for a grand prix in his career. Hear from Piastri and team-mate Lando Norris, as well as Mercedes' George Russell.
Alex Kalinauckas and Ronald Vording report from the Shanghai International Circuit after a busy Saturday at the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix. The pair start by discussing Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari's first-ever Sprint victory, Lewis's playing down of the achievement, and what could be learnt from the action on track, such as the intense tyre wear and change of pace between Red Bull, Ferrari, and McLaren. Then there's a deep dive on qualifying, with Oscar Piastri's two fastest laps being good enough for pole position as Lando Norris admitted to more mistakes, George Russell surprising with a front-row berth, a startling admission from Max Verstappen that Red Bull may have the fourth quickest car in the field, and the pressure faced by Liam Lawson after his second straight qualifying session finishing last. Alex Kalinauckas and Ronald Vording report from the Shanghai International Circuit to review Friday's Sprint Qualifying session for the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix. In a surprise, it's a Sprint Pole for Lewis Hamilton, the oldest pole winner of any F1 format since Nigel Mansell in 1994. Alex and Ronald explain why the “peaky” nature of the Ferrari may have helped Lewis to pole and the “mega” lap that has him share the front row with Max Verstappen. There's also a discussion on Lando Norris' mistake in SQ3 and why it backs up his comments on adapting to his tricky McLaren, and who Alex and Ronald think will win tomorrow morning's Sprint Race.
