Great moody, almost electroclash esque analog gems. It's been interesting to see Rebotini's music come back around from the rave days through film scores to now without really changing much. No one does the nexus point of French House and EBM quite like him. 9 DJ Plant Texture - Life - Tresor RecordsThe first of two Tresor releases in my top 10, not sure what has been happening over there lately, but I'm here for it. A great weirdo techno 12 inch where opening track Repetitivo (Stretch Mix) sounding like Jeff Mills having eaten too many haribo, before mutating into scattered hats across the dancefloor, perhaps to trip up Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern who have broken into your house for some reason. 8 Autechre - Untilted - Warp Records Now to the first of two reissues in my list, and despite my somewhat negative thoughts as to their quote unquote live show I saw this year, I still love the music and this one in particular stuck out. Approachable but still properly mad. Proof that extreme computer music can be fun. 7 Clark - Steep Stims - Throttle Records I remember when Chris Clark came out with his first record and thinking that it too warp for warp records. I'm pretty sure we never met when I was in Berlin, unless I got him confused with Kid 606, in which case I apologize to you both. Anyway, Steep Stims is great, playful, emotional, one foot in the past and another in the future, really great work that I think will age really well. Solid work Mr Clark. 6 Emptyset - Dissever - Thrill Jockey Records Amazing new record from Emptyset, feels like they took all the lessons from all the later records and applied it to the earlier ones. Beautiful intense grinding drones, like someone built an installation of Sheer Hellish Miasma and I'm somehow in the room with it. 5 Merzbow, Iggor Cavalera, Eraldo Bernocchi - Nocturnal Rainforest - PAN Full disclosure, Iggor sent this to me, but it's been on my repeated listens ever since. Zen-like terror but incredibly dynamic. One of the best noise releases of the year and I'd go as far as to say a career highlight for each of the members. 4 Various Artists - 30 Years Sonic Groove - Sonic Groove Has it really been 30 years of Sonic Groove? Adam X compiles a collection of outstanding producers for this excellent collection of tracks. Highlights include the mutant acid of Bryan Zentz, the incomparable genius of Mike Parker and the industrial brutality of Statiqbloom. 3 Dopplereffekt - Metasymmetry - Tresor The second Tresor release on my list is the mighty Dopplereffekt. Beautiful, futuristic and unmistakably Detroit. Top 3 don't disagree! 2 Maria Somerville - Luster - 4AD Genuinely shocking to hear an artist on 4AD in 2025 that sounds like what an artist on 4AD sounds like in my head and it's great. Melancholic Ambient shoegaze for a new generation. 1 Coil - Black Antlers - Dais Records Black Antlers is not my favorite Coil album, but it is the one I least expected to be reissued as it was originally a tour only CDR that then got expanded. You could argue that it might not count as a proper Coil album, but who has time for these discussions. Some of the best music ever created. Nick (Disfigure; the one on the right in the pic) Favorites: Kommodus - A Foetal Wolf in Stained Glass - Probably my favorite release from Kommodus. Really awesome auxiliary instruments incorporated here and I like the unhinged melodic leads thrown in on a lot of the songs. It has a punkier tinge to it with the guitar tones and the vocals are equally as heavy Fellwinter - Dark Mediaeval Art - Pure riff-centric Judas Iscariot worship Magus Lord - In The Company of Champions - Epic in every way. I liked this better than the Lamp record this year but M has been writing fantastic black metal for a while and this side project is really refreshing to follow Ultimate Disaster - For Progress . . . - Perfectly written D-Beat in my opinion. Very tight songwriting and the riffs and solos are so well executed Valen - Viarum - I'm a huge Thangorodrim fan and this project has reminded me most of that. This was my go-to Dungeon Synth for some epic game nights this year Enceladus - Demo II - Another great release from this project. I love the half time parts, the more death metal sounding vocals, and just the ferocity of the songs while still being melodic Iron Firmament - Arcane Overspill - Amazing black metal from Washington, a state known for churning out amazing black metal for over two decades. I really love the production on this release, especially the interludes. This band writes amazing riffs and this has been a standout for me in their already exceptional discography Sharp Pins - Balloon Balloon Balloon - I love Power pop, I love Guided By Voices and Sharp Pins delivers on all fronts Occult Blood/Carrion Bloom - Battle Cries of Endless Night - Both sides of this split are fantastic. Put out by Wergild who can't miss lately with their bands/releases Utility - S/T - The hometown heroes! The whole release but especially the first song reminds me so much of Fired Up, one of my favorite CT hardcore bands of all time. Great songwriting and also absolutely on point with the energy and vocals. The demo before this is fantastic as well     The Redscroll Podcast is a monthly show (first of the month going forward) that works as a companion to what we do at Redscroll Records in Wallingford, CT USA. We are a record store that has a heavy emphasis on the left of center / underground music of the world. Lazy Ants aka Filippo Fiorini is a dj and producer born in Fiuggi, living in Rome since 2000 where, at the age of 20, he started his career as producer.He immediately attracts the attention of lots of blogs such as Big Stereo and Discobelle posting his bootleg,but his career as dj starts some year later, when the Deepsession crew introduces him to the Rome's clubbing scene.Shortly afterwards the Lazy Ants project borns, initially in partnership with NT89, and supported by names like Congorock,Crookers and Bloody Beetroots.He starts making the first important remixs for Steed Lord, Act Yo Age, Crookers, Larry Tee, Lauren Flax, Kubo,Blatta & Inesha feat. Congorock for labels like Southern Fried, Man recordings and Ultra. In 2010 he produces with the famous hip-hop italian producer Big Fish the album "Fragile" of the rapper Nelsi. 2011 is a lucky year for Lazy Ants who makes the track "M.i.n.i" for the Mixmash, the Dj Laidback Luke's label, two tracks for the Southern Fried Na Ciphra compilation (used by the legend Fatboy Slim to remix Bust Dem Up by Crookers) and Me Road. Lazy Ants produces with his friends Crookers and His Majesty Andre the track "Carcola", included in the new Crookers album "Dr. Gonzo".With Nic Sarno, Dargen D'amico and Schlachthofbronx he produces "Solo Un Demo", the first single of the Macrobiotics project (Nic Sarno & Dargen D'amico).He also works with the Pink Is Punk for the track "Skull & Banana", which is included in the their album (Universal Music), then he makes two techno Eps: Idiot House, in collaboration with Acid Jack for the label of the australian dj and the other one with Rob Threezy for the Boemklatsch record, supported by artists like Drop The Lime, Switch, Feadz, Mixhell, Rebotini , Autokratz, Groove Armada & Faithless (which is included in the Pete Tong's compilation "All Gone" 2012).He remixes WaxMotif (Downright/Ministry of sound Au),Dj Birdee (Woot Records), Phantom's Revenge ( La Valigetta),Nic Sarno ( Esp), Oh Snap ( Ego), Acid Jacks ( One Love), Silver Medallion ( Get Right Records), The Whip ( Southern Fried), Autokratz ( Bad Life), Urchins ( Ministry of Sound ) and Booty Call Records.In 2012 his new ep, which including "Stalker" produced with Keith & Supabeatz, will be out on the label Bad Life, also a remix for Mixhell & Rebotini out on the Black Strobe Record, and many others. In 2013 have released an Ep in collaboration with The Phantom's Revenge out on Nervous Records.Back in 2015 with remix for Heavy of Crookers, big remix for hit OT Genesis with Stabber an ep with Stabber out on Luckybeard,and Ghetto House EP for Booty Call Records. Ce mercredi 28 janvier, Tout Foutre On Air reçoit Mathieu Zub aka. MUSEUM à l'occasion de la sortie ces jours-ci de son nouvel EP Das Boot chez Space Factory! Un nouvelle émission dédiée à la scène française électro, décidément si riche. Mathieu Zub, de Black Strobe à MUSEUM Mathieu Zub aka MUSEUM est un guitariste autodidacte. Il a fait ses armes dans différents groupes avant de rejoindre en 2007 l'excellent Black Strobe.  Le groupe du (très grand) Arnaud Rebotini nous a déjà fait le plaisir de leur visite dans Tout Foutre On Air la saison passée, peu avant la sortie de l'album Godforsaken Roads. Mathieu y distille notamment les riffs de guitare rock et claviers qui ont fait le succès du groupe sur disque comme en live, navigant entre Johnny Cash et LCD Soundsystem. Loin de se cantonner aux six cordes de prédilection, Mathieu acquiert rapidement ses premiers synthés pour se lancer dans la production de musique électronique dans son homestudio. MUSEUM nait ainsi en 2011, du plaisir d'un musicien passionné de techno souhaitant s'exprimer d'une manière alternative. Et quand Laurent Garnier commence à jouer vos morceaux, on peut s'arrêter de commenter. Das Boot,  nouvel EP de MUSEUM chez Space Factory Ces jours-ci sort Das Boot, le nouvel EP de MUSEUM chez Space Factory, le label indé de l'artiste électro français David Carretta. Après Dj Pone la semaine passée, Tout Foutre On Air continue avec les invités de (grande) taille : Black Strobe et son leader Arnaud Rebotini nous rendent visite ce mercredi soir à 21:00 sur Radio Campus Paris! L'occasion de mieux connaitre ce personnage incontournable de la scène electro française depuis plus de quinze ans et le nouvel du groupe EP à sortir "Going back home". En fin d'émission un live spécial de trente minutes rien que pour vous. Au programe : la playlist TFOA, Black Strobe en interview et en live. En tout début d'émission, on vous propose une playlist qui inclut notamment une totale exclu : le teaser du nouvel track "Fever" de TORB. L'excellent duo français de producteurs techno a pour spécificité de construire eux-même l'ensemble de leur matos. Filtres, synths, boites à rythme, tout est fait maison et le résultat est orgasmique. Le nouvel EP sortira en octobre et sera mixé, par un certain Philippe Zdar... TORB est un projet extrêmement original et excitant qu'on est heureux de partager avec vous grâce à cett exclu. Black Strobe, fondé en 1997, est un monument de l'electro française, rien que ça. Tout est parti de la collaboration entre Arnaud Rebotini et Ivan Smagghe, tous deux vendeurs de disques à l'époque. Ils participent ensemble au renouveau d'une scène française ni trop cheesy, ni trop deep... une dance music efficace et soignée. Quelques musiciens viennent renforcer le groupe. Depuis lors, Black Strobe (quel putain de bon nom de groupe...) s'inscrit dans une fusion étonnante entre blues, rock, disco et electro. On y retrouve toutes les facettes du groupe depuis ses origines, avec un grain analogique qui sent bon le clavier poussiéreux. Sortie le 26 mai prochain chez Black Strobe Records! Going back Home est un hymne disco qui n'a rien a envier au meilleur de LCD Soundsystem. Le groove et les nappes de Solina font des merveilles. La voix rugueuse de Rebotini finit d'ajouter la dose d'hormone mâle nécessaire à l'énergie sombre et dansante du titre. On vote pour l'extended version qu'on va user tout l'été. En Face B - l'excellent The House Of Good Lovin' nous colle sous le nez les influences Blues et RetB du groupe, avec toujours une bonne dose d'electro savamment distillée. Un peu comme si Chris Isaak avait pris un acide avant de monter sur scène. Black Strobe did a good good thing. Tiger Man fait fusionner l'ensemble avec des guitares rageuses sur un gros beat disco à l'ancienne. On adore cet EP de Black Strobe et on a hâte de vous le faire découvrir en compagnie du groupe au complet. Un EP de "chansons electro", oui monsieur!
