It's Thursday, May 29th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Christianity growing in Asia despite persecution International Christian Concern reports that Christianity is growing in Asia despite severe persecution. In 2024, there were 415 million Christians in Asia, making up 8% of the continent's population. That's up from 3% in 2010. Since 2020, Christianity's growth rate in Asia has been 1.6% per year. The church is growing in Communist, Buddhist, and Islam-dominated countries like China, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Myanmar. All this growth continues despite persecution in the from of harassment, anti-conversion laws, restrictions on Bibles, arrests, imprisonments, and even violence and murder. In 2 Corinthians 4:8-10, the Apostle Paul wrote, “We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed . … persecuted, but not forsaken … always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.” 50% of kids in United Kingdom do not live with both biological parents Research from the Marriage Foundation found that nearly half of children in the United Kingdom do not live with both of their biological parents. The report showed a record 45% of teenagers are not living with both parents by the age of 14. This trend is not driven by divorce which is at its lowest level since 1970. Instead, family breakdown is driven by a collapse in marriage rates. Harry Benson, the Research Director for the Marriage Foundation, said, “The level of family breakdown in the UK is at epidemic proportions and is set to get worse.” French House voted to legalize assisted suicide France's National Assembly voted in favor of a bill to legalize assisted suicide on Tuesday. The measure allows adult patients with painful and incurable illness to take a lethal substance. The bill must also pass in France's Senate. Matt Vallière, the Executive Director of the Patients' Rights Action Fund, warned, “The French National Assembly cast a fateful and terrible vote that will put a great many at risk of deadly harm and discrimination under an unprecedented euthanasia regime.” Proverbs 12:10 says, “The tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.” Supremes declines case of Christian kid's t-shirt affirming 2 genders In the United States, the Supreme Court declined to hear a free speech case Tuesday. The case involves a Massachusetts public school student named Liam Morrison. In 2023, he wore a T-shirt to class that said, “There are only 2 genders.” In response, the school banned him from wearing the shirt. The Morrison family challenged the decision; however, the courts ruled against them. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito authored a dissenting opinion to the court's decision to not hear the case. He said the free speech case “presents an issue of great importance for our Nation's youth.” Listen to viral comments from Liam, the boy at the epicenter. He made them before his school board. MORRISON: “What did my shirt say? Five simple words. ‘There are only two genders.' Nothing harmful, nothing threatening. Just a statement I believe to be a fact. “I have been told that my shirt was targeting a protected class. Who is this protected class? Are their feelings more important than my rights? … “Not one person, staff or student, told me that they were bothered by what I was wearing. Actually, just the opposite. Several kids told me that they supported my actions and that they wanted one too.” Defense Secretary Hegseth affirms homeschooling for military families Earlier this month, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the department to review how well it supports homeschooling for military families. The directive follows an executive order from President Donald Trump on supporting school choice in the military. Hegseth wrote, “Homeschooling offers an individualized approach for students and highlights the significant role parents play in the educational process.” Liberal Presbyterian Church (USA) keeps losing members The Presbyterian Church (USA) lost nearly 50,000 members last year according to its latest report. The liberal denomination has been losing a similar number of members each year since the COVID-19 pandemic. Their unbiblical stands have cemented their own demise. In 2014, it voted to allow pastors to marry two homosexual men or two lesbians. Plus, PC(USA) contends that there should be no laws restricting abortion. At its current rate of decline, the PC(USA) will likely fall below one million members this year. Protestors harass Christians promoting Biblically-defined family, sexuality And finally, MayDay USA held a prayer event in Seattle, Washington last Saturday. The group gathers Christians to seek God, proclaim the Gospel, and promote the “sacredness of gender and family as defined by God.” In response, violent rioters, including Antifa members, showed up to harass the Christians. This ended in police making over 20 arrests. Sadly, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell blamed the Christians for the violence. In response, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino announced, “We have asked our team to fully investigate allegations of targeted violence against religious groups at the Seattle concert. Freedom of religion isn't a suggestion.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, May 29th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Today we're joined by arguably the most successful restaurateur in the country in Jon Spiteri who has created such institutions as The French House in Soho, St John in Farringdon and latterly Sessions Arts Club. He takes us through his colourful career from working at Joe Allen's in the 70s as a waiter, to winning mixologist of the year in Australia, to mastering the art of hospitality in America before returning to the UK where a chance meeting with Fergus Henderson changed his life and London's restaurant scene over night. We hear about the hardships of setting up such famous institutions, the challenges of convincing diners to trust 'nose to tail' in the early days, the art of the long lunch, Jons close shaves with alcohol and drugs, the secrets behind hospitality, the main challenges facing the industry and much more.... ------------ Order award winning meats direct to your door from Swaledale Butchers - https://swaledale.co.uk/ Head to www.delli.market and discover the thousands of creative products dropping daily and use the code GOTODELLI for 25% off everything from us. Lately, House Music has been crossing over into the mainstream, with the excellent Nic Fanciulli and Robert Courois track "Set Me Free" sitting atop Beatport's Top 100 and trending on many Spotify dance playlists. However, the song that's got us all worked up at Party Favorz is the opening track, "Let's Go" by Jaden Bojsen. This track is ripe for remixes, and while I've seen some floating around, I'm not certain if they're official. I'm calling attention to this song because it channels late '80s and early '90s House Music, perfectly setting the tone for most of this set. I fully expect it to feature on our next Dance Club set (dropping soon), as I want to push it hard. In the meantime, be sure to add it to your Spotify and Apple Music playlists. While this set sticks to our current House floor favorites, there's a good mix of Disco House and even some French House we're really into at the moment, giving it a nice balance. A personal favorite of mine is "Delicious" by Risk Assessment, which lifts the Acid House classic "Theme From S.E.X. Express," slows it down to a slinky 120 BPM, and throws in some classic Deee-lite riffs. If you know, you know. If you don't — you'll be into it soon enough. This set has been on heavy rotation in my car because I can't get enough of it. It just hits all the right notes, and I think even those who aren't typically fans of our Funky House series will enjoy it. That's all I've got for your weekend pleasure. Until next time…ENJOY! Today they regale us with their greatest stories from their time working in some of London's greatest restaurants and bars, some of which will leave you shocked. From incredibly messy nights out in Soho to fishing drunk customers out of their canal to waitering the floors of the French House as 8 year old kids with 'L Plates' stuck to their backs, their stories are as incredible as their success.

Take an audio tour of the history of the French House at Nazareth University with special guest host Caroline Johnson.
Historical fiction author, Jacquie Bloese draws her inspiration from atmospheric locations with intriguing histories, and people – both real and imaginary – whose stories are calling out to be told. Her latest release, The Golden Hour, set in Victorian Brighton is a compelling and deeply atmospheric read. In this fascinating episode, Jacquie discuses the inspiration for her second novel, the challenges of researching the Victorian age and growing up in Guernsey, the island which inspired her debut novel, The French House,_________________________________________________________________________________________In the genteel squares of late-Victorian Brighton, Ellen and Reynold Harper - twins, companions, colleagues - ply their trade as portrait photographers. But at the golden hour, the models arrive to pose for the lucrative - and illicit - photographs that really keep the Harpers' business afloat. This is the other, shadowy world of the city: a world of erotic tableaux, boundary-crossing music hall performers, and the sinister figure of the local gangster, the Croc. When Ellen is drawn into the orbit of unhappy newly-wed Clementine, she finds herself torn between loyalty to her brother, her dangerous attraction to new model, Lily, and her burgeoning friendship with Clem. And as the two worlds of Brighton collide, the three women discover that there is only a knife edge between the promise of freedom, and the threat of ruin . . .Atmospheric, sensual and powerfully moving, The Golden Hour is a spellbinding portrait of three women determined to find their freedom - perfect for fans of Sarah Waters, The Doll Factory and The Essex Serpent.
It's Thursday, February 1st, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Muslims killed 10 Christians, burned 200 homes in Mozambique The Islamic State took responsibility for multiple attacks on Christians last month in Mozambique. The attacks occurred over the course of two weeks, killing 10 Christians and burning 200 homes. People have faced Islamic insurgency in the southern African country for years. Conflict has displaced over one million residents and killed around 2,000 civilians. While Islamic State attacks are decreasing in frequency, Christians still face targeted violence. Mozambique is ranked 39th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most difficult to be a Christian. Germany cracks down on pro-lifers Germany's Federal Family Minister announced a new draft bill to crack down on pro-life expression near abortion mills. The bill would create censorship zones around mills. The U.K. adopted a similar measure last year. Dr. Felix Böllmann with Alliance Defending Freedom International said, “Peaceful gatherings, prayer and offers of help should never be banned. The plans of the German government are alarming—not only do they put blanket restrictions on fundamental freedoms, but also they weaken civil society's engagement for the protection of the right to life.” French House greenlights abortion Meanwhile, in France, the country's lower house of parliament voted in favor of making abortion a constitutional right on Tuesday. The bill now moves to the country's Senate. Psalm 94:20-21 speaks to the leaders of France and Germany alike. It asks, “Shall the throne of iniquity, which devises evil by law, have fellowship with [the Lord]? They gather together against the life of the righteous, and condemn innocent blood.” California's $200,000 settlement with church In the United States, the state of California reached a $200,000 settlement with a church and preschool in a religious liberty case last month. Church of Compassion and Dayspring Christian Learning Center were serving low-income families. State officials suspended them from a food care program over their biblical beliefs about human sexuality. Jeremiah Galus with Alliance Defending Freedom said, “In the name of combatting discrimination, government officials excluded the church and preschool from serving the El Cajon community based solely on their religious beliefs and exercise. . . . now Church of Compassion can continue its vital outreach to needy children and families.” Utah bans transgender bathrooms Utah became the latest state to ban transgender bathrooms. Republican Governor Spencer Cox signed the bill on Tuesday. The measure requires people to use bathrooms and locker rooms in public schools and government buildings in accordance with their biological sex. At least 10 other states have passed similar bills, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. 760,000 new businesses in 2023 The review site Yelp reports a record number of new business openings last year. Over 760,000 new businesses started in 2023, up 20% from 2022. Business openings for home services were up 32%, and openings for hotels and travel were up 28%. Yelp noted, “For the first time ever, every U.S. state, including Washington, D.C., experienced an increase in new business openings, when compared to both 2022's record numbers and pre-pandemic levels (2019).” Religiously unaffiliated in America A new report from Pew Research evaluated religiously unaffiliated U.S. adults. About 28% of Americans are “nones,” calling themselves atheists, agnostics, or “nothing in particular.” That's up from 16% in 2007. Most “nones” believe in a higher power but do not attend religious services. They also believe religion does some harm but may also do some good. Only 17% of religious “nones” are atheists; 20% are agnostic; and the vast majority are “nothing in particular” at 63%. Speaker Johnson: We desire to walk in God's ways And finally, leaders from around the world met in Washington, D.C. yesterday for the National Gathering for Prayer and Repentance. The event took place at the Museum of the Bible. Tony Perkins with the Family Research Council co-founded the prayer event, which aims to “pray prayers of serious repentance for (1) personal sins, (2) sin in the church and (3) America's sins, followed by praying for the Nations.” Republican House speaker Mike Johnson spoke at the event. JOHNSON: “I pray, and you'll hear my colleagues come up here in turn will be praying, to the Lord. And that's what is on our hearts, that that the Lord would give us all discerning hearts, to govern, to distinguish between right and wrong, to walk in His ways and to obey His statutes and commands.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, February 1st in the year of our Lord 2024. Isolation is a key theme in this week's Book Club novel, The French House. Set on the remote island of Guernsey during WWII, we meet a deaf Guernsey native, a woman trapped in a fearful marriage, and a German lieutenant whose isolated worlds will all collide, changing their lives forever. Author Jacquie Bloese joins Richard and Judy to talk about the parts of the book that are inspired by her own life, including the fact that she used to work at the real ‘French House' in the title. They also discuss the ways in which the Nazi occupation of Guernsey was a microcosm of what could have happened had the mainland been occupied. Aquí podemos escucharlos con 2 temas: “Hey Boy Hey Girl” y “Dig Your Own Hole”. Freedom worth fighting for. Love worth waiting for. In Nazi-occupied Guernsey, the consequences of making the wrong decision can be deadly.... Left profoundly deaf after an accident, Émile is no stranger to isolation—or heartbreak. Now, as Nazi planes loom over Guernsey, he senses life is about to change forever. Trapped in a tense, fearful marriage, Isabelle doesn't know what has become of Émile and the future she hoped for. But when she glimpses him from the window of the French House, their lives collide once more. Lieutenant Schreiber is more comfortable wielding a paintbrush than a pistol. But he has little choice in the role he is forced to play in the occupying forces—or in his own forbidden desires. As their paths entwine, loyalties are blurred and dangerous secrets forged. But on an island under occupation, courage can have deadly consequences.... Lyrical, moving and compelling, this is a novel about wanting to hear and learning to listen—to the truths of our own hearts.
