Teresa Mull talks to Rob Shavell, CEO of data privacy firm DeleteMe, about the consequences of a tech-saturated society and how to protect yourself and your children from online dangers.
Privacy experts and pro-choice advocates are trying to get a handle on a new threat in post-Dobbs America: that our online behavior in apps, searches, or even just keeping our phones in in our pocket at the wrong time could send women or doctors to jail. Its a wild west of data collection and sale out there, and the new patchwork of abortion laws across states could mean that our digital footprints create very real legal perils. What if you need an abortion and you're in a state like Texas that puts a bounty on you? What if there's a new law that allows prosecutors to go after doctors if they provide care to women crossing state lines from states where abortion is restricted? How much information are we putting out, who might get it, and how might it be used against us? Rob Shavell, CEO of digital privacy provider Abine, joins to explain this emerging issue. This week we are honored to have Rob Shavell, CEO and Co-Founder of DeleteMe, join us to discuss the threat of publicly available PII to individuals and companies, the types of threats they are encountering, the need for companies to protect executives and employees, and how individuals and organizations can address these issues, using both technological and legal/policy approaches. Rob is a privacy expert who has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, The Telegraph, NPR, ABC, NBC, and Fox. Rob is a vocal proponent of privacy legislation reform, including the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA).
We would all love to think that our data and our information is private and protected. For nonprofits, however, this is increasingly not the case. Charity fraud is on the rise and nonprofits are challenged to be proactive in their security measures. Rob Shavell, CEO and co-founder of DeleteMe, joins the podcast to discuss charity fraud -- who's targeted, why it's so effective, and how nonprofits can better protect their critical data.
Does US need a federal privacy law? Are data brokers a threat to privacy? Punit is joined by Rob Shavell for a conversation about how he sees privacy in a way that helps people to know the balance of what should be shared and what gets a focus on the legislation to where the privacy of people are protected. Rob Shavell is CEO of Abine / DeleteMe, The Online Privacy Company. Rob has been quoted as a privacy expert in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, The Telegraph, NPR, ABC, NBC, and Fox.
