Mark 8:27-9:1 (CSB)Confessing Jesus as the Messiah means denying yourself, taking up your cross and following Him. It means embracing the paradox that losers are keepers. It brings eternal reward to one’s soul! We are called to confess Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, the kings of Kings. The One who takes away my sin and your sin and gives us eternal life. Will you accept this great gift?
Mark 8:1-26 (ESV)Description: Is your hard heart cut off or is it perhaps softening? Are your circumstances causing you to harden your heart to who Jesus is or are you seeing in part now and clinging to the fact that one day you will see fully?
Mark 7: 24-37 (ESV)In our passage to day, we learn that faith consists of desperation, persistence and humility, and also as we come to Jesus, He meets us individually, empathically and redemptively. He does all things well.

Mark 7:1-23 (ESV)In today’s passage we see Jesus once again challenged by the Pharisees and scribes regarding the purification laws. Through this encounter we learn more about what exactly it is that Jesus came to do. We have seen that He is the promised King Messiah, but today we also see that He comes to fix which is unfixable - our broken hearts.
Mark 6:45-56 (CSB)Our passage today we find the disciples right in the middle of a storm, maybe that’s where you are so maybe you can relate, but if you are not in one, hang on, it's coming. This is not to scare you but rather to prepare you. We can trust God in the midst of our storms.
Mark 6:7-44 (ESV)We often think about the miracles of Jesus simply as a way for Jesus to show up and out. But as we kick off Season Two in the Gospel of Mark we will see that there is always more going on. Jesus is revealing Himself as the true revolutionary and the true King! This sermon is preached by Arnaldo Santiago Jr. from Anchor Church in Sydney Australia.
Chapter 3 is Habakkuk's prayer of praise in the form of a poetic song. He had been given the vision from God concerning the end; he had heard the Lord's response to his questions and concerns. Now he can only but stand back in awe and in reverence of the One who will act on behalf of His people. Habakkuk's prayer and song in this chapter is one that encompasses the past, yet stretches forth thousands of years and reveals details of the Lord's coming in glory to defeat all His enemies at the end of the age.
We jump into part two of our panel discussion. There is so much to learn in a three chapter Old Testament book. We have a deeper discussion about Habakkuk, how it fits in the full breath of Scripture and what that means for us today.
There is so much to learn in a three chapter Old Testament book. We have a deeper discussion about Habakkuk, how it fits in the full breath of Scripture and what that means for us today.
The biggest question in Habakkuk's prayers and laments is: "Is God good, when there is so much evil in the world?". The vision of Habakkuk in this portion of scripture is God's answer to this question. God doesn't only answer the prophet, He describes to the prophet how he should live in this in-between time in chapter 2:4 and 2:20; between the promise and the fulfillment. This brings us a great deal of comfort, as we also live in between the resurrection and the redemption of all things.
Habakkuk 1:1-4Habakkuk teaches us that we can look back on the Lord’s past faithfulness to trust Him with our present and future realities, even when what God is doing, doesn’t always make sense.
Mark 6:1-6 (CSB)If we want to please God, to know His pleasure and power, we must believe that the God revealed in the Old and New Testaments exists and that He acts equitably and justly on behalf of His children. Do you believe this? Christ was amazed by great faith as well as the lack of it. What about us amazes Him? Which one are you in?Great Faith or Lack of Faith?
Mark 5:21-43 (CSB)Mark reveals to us that God through Jesus will make us whole. That in Christ we are healed of our uncleanness and that the Holy Spirit gives us faith to trust and believe
Mark 5:1-20 (ESV)Jesus’ awe-inspiring power and authority clearly means that He is the real deal, but merely recognizing this fact isn’t enough. In this text we will see three different reactions to Jesus’ authority and from there we learn what that means for us today who submit to Jesus’ authority. Not only should our submission lead to reverent worship of this God-Man, but also a change in how we orient our hearts and lives.
Mark 4: 35-41 (ESV)The story of Jesus calming the storm helps us to answer three significant questions. Who is Jesus? Does He care about our troubles? Can we trust Him?
Mark 4:1-34 (CSB)If you are a child of God, the Gospel dwells in you, it grows in you and it will produce much fruit in and through you.
Mark 3:20-30The Holy Spirit is our Counsellor. He is given to the world to convict us about sin, righteous and judgement. Do not reject Him, for He points us to Jesus, who reconciles us to the Father, who loves us more than we could ever imagine.
Mark 3:7-19 and Mark 3:31-33 (CSB)You can be drawn to the power of Jesus and not necessarily get the person of Jesus. It’s easy to make this mistake and fall into this trap because when you get the person of Jesus, you also get His power, but it’s very possible to experience the power of Jesus and completely miss the person of Jesus. The call to repentance and faith is to come to Christ ... for Christ.
Mark 2:18-3:6Jesus is calling everyone to take a different road, His road, and He promises through the Gospel that this road will make all the difference. The difference between satisfaction and discontentment, joy and agony, purpose and irrelevance, life and death.
Mark 1:35-2:17What does it look like when Isaiah 40 comes true? What does it look like when God comes and sorts out the brokenness of this world? The Gospel writer, Mark, is unrelenting in answering these questions; story after story in the first part of Mark. He slows down the story in Chapter 2:1 and spends some time to tell one of the most beautiful stories yet in the gospel! Brilliantly crafted, it will blow your mind and introduce you to one of Jesus's main struggles of His earthly ministry, His conflict with the scribes and teachers of the law. Who can forgive sins? Give it a listen and find out...
Ready, and action! After Jesus's announcement that the Kingdom of God is near, He jumps right into His public ministry and starts showing the people what this Kingdom looks like. What we'll see is that "the people" include: His first followers, people of Israel (the Jews) and people from the City, not previously part of God's covenant people. EVERYONE has an opportunity to see and experience the Kingdom, and in this portion of scripture all of this happens in one day... now that is urgency! Fasten your seatbelts, and behold the Kingdom, your mind will be blown!

EPIC movie —-> EPIC trailer! In this teaching we (yes, another tag team effort) explore the Gospel of Mark's introduction to Jesus and His basic message and mission. We discover that announcing the arrival of God's kingdom was Jesus' greatest priority. What did that mean? Why was that important to him? Go on, give it a listen. It’ll have a different feel than a normal Sunday sermon, but it’s fresh!

The Resurrection of Jesus changed everything. The explosive power of the Resurrection has so many implications for our lives, for today and for the life to come.
We believe that God has designed us for fellowship. We need other people in our lives, however, in a season where we have been called to not gather in large groups, to not be around people, what does that do to us? What impact does it have on our well-being? In this podcast, One Mokgatle talks to Dr Wendy-Leigh Greyvensteyn, a clinical psychologist, on the challenges of self-isolation in a season where we have been called to stay home and not be in community. *If you would like the informational material mentioned by Dr Wendy in the podcast please contact community@rootedfellowship.com. If you would like to speak to one of our Pastors please contact us on the same email address. Remember, you are not alone.
In Christ – we are of indescribable worth. We are His masterpiece - His work of art, created for goods to do them for His Glory and for our joy.
In moments of chaos and uncertainty, we can sometimes believe the lie that God has abandoned us, that He either doesn’t love us or that He is not in control. This couldn’t be the furthest thing from the truth. We are loved more than we can ever imagine and God is still fully in control.
We live in an world that requires us to make tons of decisions, from the small mundane ones to the big and exciting ones. The reality is that, it’s not always easy to know what to do, where to go or who to choose. We don’t like uncertainty, it can sometimes paralyse us or cause us to act abruptly and out of character. God does not leave us in this state. He meets us in our worry and anxiety. He provides for us, He leads and guides us, both as individuals and as a community.
COVID-19: In this podcast, Jono Tudhope talks to Dr Khuliso Ramashia about the pandemic we are all experiencing called the coronavirus. They unpack what it is and chat about what we, as a community, can do in this strange and unusual time. *This podcast was recorded on Tuesday the 17th of March and so please be advised that stats have changed since then.
As we ask and answer the question, what does it mean to be ALL IN for Discipleship? We must acknowledge that the Great Commission is not a suggestion, but a commandment given to us by Jesus, that we must obey. What is of great importance as we do the work of making disciples who make disciples is to first and foremost recognise that we are disciples. It's from that posture that discipleship flows from our obedience.
If we desire to be generous givers, then we will see three characteristics flow from our generosity. The Apostle Paul in our text reveals to us three markers that will be evident in our lives.
In this new series, we will focus on what we believe it means to be all in, here and now, as Rooted Fellowship. In the midst of all our conflict, we all desire PEACE. External PEACE and Internal PEACE. God promises us both. Internal Peace by reconciling us to Himself through Jesus and then External Peace by reconciling us to each other in His transcultural church. A new kingdom under a new King.
In this new series we will focus on what we believe it means to be all in, here and now, as Rooted Fellowship. As a church we are all in for Gospel-Centred; that means we are in to live a life that is all about Jesus, what He has done and what He is doing! In this message we’ll see that Jesus Christ is the Supreme Encouragement to Humility and Unselfishness, to the whole church, all of us. Therefore, all in for gospel-centred means all in for humility and unselfishness.
God has been faithful to us at Rooted Fellowship and we have consistently seen how He has added to our numbers over the past 5 years. This year, in order to be responsible stewards of the folks that come our way, we have created a connect path made up of 2 events. In this episode, One and Jono discuss how new folks can plug in at Rooted in 2020 by attending these events.
Tables are one of the most important places of human connection. We often feel most fully alive when sharing a meal around a table. Therefore, we shouldn’t be surprised, to find that throughout the Bible, God has a way of showing up at tables. At the centre of the spiritual lives of God’s people in both the Old and New Testaments, we find a table: the table of Passover and the table of Communion – the Lords Supper. This table of fellowship is what Jesus invites us to with Himself and then, in turn, we invite others to fellowship with us at the table. This sermon series will help us practice the rhythms of this table of fellowship and ensure we grow both in our spiritual lives and as a community.

There are so many great quotes that advocate for community, so many wise words that warn us not to isolate ourselves and believe the lie that we don't need anyone, or that we are too busy to find time to get around a table with others and enjoy fellowship. The Gospel compels us to enter into relationships, meaningful ones. These relationships help us grow in our faith, they provide for us better accountability and they ensure that we keep our eyes on Jesus. Put plainly, fellowship is vital for our soul. In this episode, we talk to Confidence and Jono about two places that you can find great community at Rooted Fellowship; in City Groups and in Discipleship Groups. So listen and get plugged in.

As a New Year dawns on us, many begin to think about New Year Resolutions; what to begin doing, what new goals to achieve or what bad thing to stop. In this episode we chat to Jono about what our lives might look like in 2020 if we change our perspective and instead of thinking resolutions, we think habits. If we can create better habits, with better rhythms, we will have a year of not just surviving but truly thriving in Christ and in our community.
Why are we so passionate about planting churches? Well, because Gods plan to reach the world is through His redeemed children saved by grace, we are His plan, by grace called into a mission, He was already on, through Jesus, church after church, generation after generation until He returns or calls us home. In this episode, we chat to Sihle Xulu and his experience at Rooted Fellowship as a church planting resident. We also talk about the plan to plant a church in the east of Johannesburg and what he is looking forward to in 2020.
Have you ever felt that you understand and know someone even better after meeting their family? Meeting someone’s family and knowing where they come from and why they do what they do and say what they say is a very powerful experience. Do you know that Jesus also had a family, a community of faith, a tribe and a very long family story? Do you know Jesus’s origin story, and why He came to earth and did what He did? Whether you are familiar with the story or not, make yourself comfortable and dive into His origin story before we celebrate His birth together this Christmas. You know how you understand a Marvel movie better when you know the characters' origin stories? Exactly...

In this episode David and John sat down with One Mokgatle from Rooted Fellowship and Regional Director of Acts 29 Southern Africa to speak about black leadership in multi-ethnic church spaces. We spoke about trans-culturalism and identity in Christ; about white flight and distrust of black leadership. About Churches as prophetic voices on economic reform and racial transformation. We asked why are black pastors always talking about race? We asked questions about white shame and black anger; about reconciliation as an identity rather than a programme. We spoke about the incredible weight put on diversity hires not to mess it up. And of course we spoke about building new and more inclusive tables. True faith is always persevering faith; even though it might fall and stumble, it always perseveres to the end; because true faith has its eye not ultimately on the present hardship, but ultimately on the reward of God in the life to come, the promised crown of life.
Jesus’ words to Ephesus in Revelation 2:1–7 teach us that the great commandment matters to God. Jesus identified our greatest obligation as wholehearted devoted love for God - Matthew 22:36–38, which declares to us that God is not pleased by mere dutiful obedience that does not flow from genuine authentic love.
One of the major themes in the book of Revelation is VICTORY. Jesus’ victory of sin and death AND the implications of that victory. Jesus has overcome sin and death. He has conquered evil and depravity. The Gospel compels us to live out of this victory, especially as we nagivate through this broken world, that this side of heaven, we are being tempted, this side of heaven we will walk through pain and suffering, this side of we will feel the heat of the fiery furnace, but for those in Christ, this will not destroy you, because of the Victory found in Jesus.
This past Sunday Rooted Fellowship celebrated our 4th birthday and it was a privilege to have our Brother in Christ, Adam Ramsay (Australia) share his 3 prayers for Rooted Fellowship, as we seek to be a church with longevity in ministry. He grounded these prayers in Paul's words to the church in Philippi as he preached on Philippians 3:1 - 12 and zoned in on verse 10. He prayed that we would follow Paul's example and seek to know Christ, the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings.
