The United Kingdom's top court recently issued a radical ruling. They said that a woman can be defined as someone who is born biologically female. In other words, men are men, women are women, and that can be defined in objective, biological ways. The highest court in Great Britain has now come down on the side of what every toddler has known for the last 5,000 years. Will America follow suit and once again be able to define what a woman is?Erin Hawley, “An odd way to celebrate women,” April 9, 2025.Jamie Bryan Hall and Ryan T. Alexandra DeSanctis Marr '16 is a staff writer for National Review and a visiting fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center. She co-authored Tearing Us Apart: How Abortion Harms Everything and Solves Nothing (2022) with Ryan T. Anderson. Alexandra discusses the broader implications of abortion on both individuals and society at large, emphasizing the necessity of establishing a comprehensive pro-life stance. She argues abortion doesn't just affect the unborn, but also women, families, and societal structures. Drawing from here research for her co-authored book she explores why the pro-life argument extends beyond the moral status of the unborn, and addressing how abortion impacts relationships, law, culture, and medical ethics. The first book in the storied career of one of the most influential conservative legal scholars and philosophers of our day is the focus of an upcoming conference in Washington, DC. Making Men Moral (1993) is the book and Robert P. George is the man behind it—Princeton professor of jurisprudence, bioethicist and pro-life and civil liberties champion. Scheduled speakers include some of the most important thinkers on social conservatism and legal thought of the generations he has molded, plus many of his peers and George himself. This conference is our focus for today. As the founder and director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University since 2000, George has provided a model for a slew of similar programs, centers and institutes throughout American academia and abroad. He is also a noted public speaker, often in partnership with his good friend the African-American scholar, Cornel West. Because of George's outsized role in public discussion of moral issues and his unique position as a stalwart Christian voice and admired scholar in the heavily secular academe of our time, rather than interview the author of a book today I will be chatting with one of the organizers of Making Men Moral: 30th Anniversary Conference. This event is co-sponsored by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), the Ethics & Public Policy Center, Pepperdine University School of Public Policy, and the Project on Constitutional Originalism and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition at Catholic University. And luckily for those unable to attend in person the event at AEI in Washington, DC Thursday, November 30, 2023 | 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM ET and Friday, December 1, 2023 | 9:00 AM to 5:15 PM ET, they can register to follow the proceedings live online for free. This is a welcome opportunity to learn about one of the most important books in the fields of moral philosophy, the philosophy of law, and natural law of the last 30 years. For decades, George's Making Men Moral: Civil Liberties and Public Morality has been the go-to text for legal scholars, political theorists, philosophers and educated readers who want to grasp what types of human vice and folly can be legitimately regulated, what the relationship is between morals legislation and freedom, what is owed by the individual to the ordering of society, and what falls under the protection of privacy or basic civil liberties legal regimes. The conference features leading lights in the conservative legal firmament such as our guest today--J. Joel Alicea an associate professor at the Columbus School of Law of the Catholic University of America, Sherif Girgis, Melissa Moschella and Professor George himself. It will also feature scholars in the fields of theology and religious learning such as Andrew T. Walker; bioethicists and legal scholars such as O. Carter Snead; luminaries in the field of natural law like Hadley Arkes; journalists such as Timothy P. Carney and Alexandra DeSanctis and notable social scientists such as Mark Regnerus and W. Bradford Wilcox. The first day of the two-day conference will feature an interview of George by his fellow public intellectual and former student, Ryan T. Anderson. Our guest today, Professor Alicea, will not only open the conference but will participate in a panel discussion entitled, “Making Men Moral and Constitutional Interpretation,” the title of which nicely encapsulates two of the many roles Robert P. George serves in the public sphere: George is both a powerful moral voice and a skillful, much loved professor at Princeton where he teaches a famous course on Constitutional Interpretation (the lectures of which were recorded and are available free online). Georgette Forney is the director of Anglicans for Life and co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness campaign. At age 16, Georgette had an abortion. Even after becoming a Christian, she struggled to believe that God could forgive her. She joins us this week to share how God helped her bring her abortion into the light, receive His forgiveness, and walk free from guilt and shame. Although she describes herself as an unlikely activist, Georgette has obeyed God's call to advocate for the preborn. By sharing her story, she helps women and men experience forgiveness, healing, and hope in Christ after abortion. It's an experience that drives many young mothers crazy. After carrying a child for months, enduring labor and childbirth, nursing through many sleepless nights, what are the first words she hears from the kid? “Dada!” It isn't always the case, but across time and cultures, babies are more likely to name their father before their mother. However, rather than a preference for dad or a slight to mom, according to a tweet by Dr. Dan Wuori, it more likely reinforces how important mom is. At that young age, the mother/child bond is so tight that babies simply can't see her as “other.” She is the world, with Dad more of a visitor. This is a reminder of what Ryan T. Anderson has said. Kids don't need just “parents.” They need a mom and a dad, and each provides unique and distinct gifts by their presence to children.

According to political philosopher Ryan T. Anderson and journalist Alexandra DeSantis, abortion harms everything it touches. It is an act of lethal violence against a child and leaves many women with lifelong regret and feelings of guilt and loss. Far from empowering women, abortion has reduced privileged women to serving as economic drudges to abortion-friendly corporations. “Pro-choice” culture pressures poor and minority women to regard abortion as liberating and presents childbearing as against their interests. These are some of the arguments in Anderson and DeSanctis' book, Tearing Us Apart: How Abortion Harms Everything and Solves Nothing (Regnery Publishing, 2022). This is an unabashedly pro-life book. It portrays abortion—from what happens to the child and mother during an abortion to the way that the pro-abortion jurisprudence of the Roe Era of 1973-2022 led even supposedly conservative Supreme Court justices to misread the Constitution. The authors argue that pro-abortion legal arguments have ranged from calling the child in the womb “a potential life” and treating abortion as a mostly medical issue and privacy matter (in Roe) and then an economic justice and gender equality issue (in Planned Parenthood v. Casey) to now a matter of convenience sans any moral discussion at all. The book makes clear why millions of pro-life activists spent decades fighting to end Roe and how they are now gearing up to assist the mothers and children who will face life together in a post-Roe world. The authors call for the entire country to pull together to create a pro-life, pro-family society in which the laws governing abortion or outlawing it entirely have now been returned to the states and the people. Today we will talk to one of the co-authors of the book, Alexandra DeSanctis. Give a listen. Hope J. Leman is a grants researcher. Learn more about your ad choices. Reaction from both sides of the debate to the recent Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade has been swift and predictable. So, what exactly happened that Friday in June? Did the Supremes actually vote to make abortion illegal? And where do we go from here? Frank Beckwith is a philosopher who publishes, speaks, and teaches on religion, jurisprudence, politics, and ethics at Baylor University. He's written extensively on abortion and the sanctity of life and can thus offer an informed explanation of the Dobbs v Jackson decision and its implications. Though the professor (a skilled mimic) is unable to render a serviceable impression of POTUS 45, you'll appreciate his exceptional insights on today's topic. We're offering a few giveaway copies of Tearing Us Apart: How Abortion Harms Everything and Solves Nothing by Alexandra DeSanctis and Ryan T. Anderson. For an opportunity to win, enter here.
Ben Johnson unpacks what happens when we rely on other sources of truth outside of God and the push to get a degree in a high demand trade. Ryan T. Anderson, author of "Tearing Us Apart: How Abortion Harms Everything and Solves Nothing," shares how the Dobbs decision has given us a new starting place and the trend of walking out on those we disagree with. Three days after the Dobbs' decision was released by the Supreme Court of the United States, Anderson and DeSanctis' book "Tearing Us Apart: How Abortion Harms Everything and Solves Nothing" hit the shelves. In their book they describe the fact that there is hope in the ruins of Roe v. Wade. From the description, "Abortion hollows out marriage and the family. It undermines the rule of law and corrupts our political system. It turns healers into executioners and 'women's health' into a euphemism for extermination." If you are a Legacy Dad looking for ways to defend the pro-life / anti-abortion stance, this book is for you.
Hank Hanegraaff, president of the Christian Research Institute and host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast, is reading a new book by Ryan T. Anderson and Alexandra DeSanctis titled, Tearing Us Apart: How Abortion Harms Everything and Solves Nothing. Pro-abortion operatives speak loudly and profanely about reproductive freedom, bodily autonomy, the right to choose, and so forth. Few seem willing to speak about the brutal business of Planned Parenthood or the painful killing of innocent human beings or even consider the profoundly inherent virtue of human life. Ignorance of basic biology in our culture is beyond chilling. And government by and large has abandoned its responsibility to secure the right to life—a right upon which all other rights depend. What is particularly stunning is that surgical abortion is rapidly being supplanted by the horror of chemical abortion, which now accounts for some 50 percent of all abortions in the U.S. The numbers are staggering—some 300,000 to 450,000 chemical abortions per year. One pill cuts off nutrients to the developing child, so she gradually dies; another induces early labor to expel the child from the womb. And of course, the CDC is perfectly fine with all this. Moreover, there is a growing body of evidence pointing to the reality that women who have abortions not only kill innocent human beings but are at greater risk for developing breast cancer. Hank Hanegraaff, president of the Christian Research Institute and host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast, comments on an article in the Daily Wire by Hank Berrien about a mother “taking legal action against teachers who allegedly persuaded” her “eleven-year-old daughter that she was a boy.” The mother, Jessica Konen, is quoted as saying, “You wouldn't expect a teacher to be predatorial toward a child.” Berrien explains that the sixth-grader “was allegedly recruited by teachers and encouraged to change her name to a boy's name while being told not to tell her mother.” Teachers are alleged to have “‘planted the seed' to convince Konen's daughter to believe she was bisexual, then urged the girl to believe she was a transgender boy.” The increasing commonality of these kinds of stories potentially desensitizes us to the cultural shift occurring before our eyes. As Western Civilization attempts to decouple biological sex from gender, eradicating the very distinctives given to us by our Creator, we as followers of Christ must not sit by idly to watch it happen. In the words of Abraham Kuyper, “When principles that run against your deepest convictions begin to win the day, then battle is your calling, and peace has become sin; you must, at the price of dearest peace, lay your convictions bare before friend and enemy, with all the fire of your faith.” If we do not pray and stand for truth now, we will lose Western Civilization. See Hank Berrien, “CA Mom Takes Legal Action Against Teachers Who Allegedly Persuaded 11-Year-Old Daughter She Was A Boy,” Daily Wire, January 24, 2022, https://www.dailywire.com/news/ca-mom-takes-legal-action-against-teachers-who-allegedly-persuaded-11-year-old-daughter-she-was-a-boy.
