In this unfiltered and deeply confronting episode of The Real Deal Podcast, Abby Johnson and Regan Long pull back the curtain on the modern pro-life movement—and what happens when truth becomes too uncomfortable for the establishment. Abby shares the shocking response from the March for Life after screening her upcoming documentary Unthinkable—a film featuring three dozen former abortion workers risking everything to expose what really happens inside the abortion industry. While praised as “truthful” and “compelling,” the film was rejected for being too graphic. That rejection sparks a no-holds-barred conversation about compromise, money, politics, and why many major pro-life organizations may not actually want abortion to end. This episode dives into: Why graphic truth is being avoided—even in the pro-life movement How whistleblowers are risking prison to tell the truth The uncomfortable reality of “non-profits” that profit from the fight Why Abby is actively trying to work herself out of a job How politics, power, and optics are overshadowing urgency Why “lowering numbers” isn’t the same as ending evil The spiritual warfare behind exposing what’s hidden And why a new movement—or total collapse—may be inevitable This conversation isn’t polished. It isn’t safe. And it isn’t meant to be.It’s a call to wake up, stop compromising, and ask the hard question: If the goal is to end abortion, why are so many afraid of the truth? If this episode challenged you, share it.If it offended you, sit with it.And if you’ve been waiting for someone to finally say the quiet part out loud—this one’s for you. 1/16/26 - What does it really mean to defend life, and where, exactly, is the line being drawn? Jim Havens and Fr. Stephen Imbarrato offer a direct and unfiltered examination of the question many avoid asking: Why not personhood now? Moving beyond slogans and incremental talking points, they analyze specific clips and public statements from political leaders such as Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis alongside religious voices, including Pope Leo XIV, to expose how ambiguity, compromise, and strategic silence continue to shape the public conversation on abortion. Grounded in Catholic moral theology, natural law, and the Church's consistent teaching on life from conception, the discussion presses into whether delayed personhood is a prudential strategy or a moral failure. With concrete examples, hard distinctions, and pastoral urgency, we challenge Catholics to examine whether defending the unborn “eventually” is compatible with proclaiming their full dignity now.
The Civil War in the Pro-Life Movement Why did abortion survive the early 1980s, when momentum, political power, and Christian consensus seemed aligned? Why did pro-life leaders split over strategy instead of uniting around abolition? And why are those same fault lines still tearing at the movement today between abolitionists, incrementalists, and legacy pro-life institutions? This breakout episode of a new Crosspolitic series traces the legislative history, theological disagreements, and legal realities that led to a three-way split within the pro-life movement. 10/17/25 - Virginia's governor's race has become one of the most consequential political battles in the country, not just for partisan control, but for the future of pro-life protections in the Commonwealth. At the heart of the race is a stark contrast between candidates who promise to increase abortion access up to birth and those who have pledged to defend the unborn with concrete legislative action. We go beyond soundbites to examine the real policies at stake: late-term abortion legislation, taxpayer funding for abortion providers, parental consent laws, and conscience protections for medical professionals. We'll unpack how this race could either strengthen Virginia's emerging pro-life momentum or cement its reputation as a haven for abortion extremism. Drawing from Catholic social teaching and the witness of the faithful, we'll look at what faithful citizenship demands in moments like these, why this particular race is being watched nationwide, and how Catholics can engage not just with a vote, but with prayer, public witness, and courage. This isn't just another election; it's a defining moment for life in Virginia.

Today's Topics: 1, 2, 3, 4) Frank Pavone joins Terry to discuss the latest news in the pro-life movement Gospel - Matthew 22:34-40 - When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a scholar of the law, tested Him by asking, "Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?" He said to him, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments." 8/22/25 - As the forces of death move beyond the walls of traditional clinics into the hidden world of online and at-home chemical abortions, the struggle for life is entering a new era. What does this shift mean for women, families, and the Church? How should Catholics respond with truth, charity, and courage in the face of these new threats? In this episode, we dive into the dangers of a digitalized abortion industry, the pastoral and cultural challenges it creates, and the concrete steps every Catholic can take to witness to the dignity of human life.

When the U.S. Supreme Court dealt a death blow in 2022 to federal abortion protections offered by Roe v. Wade, a gruesome patchwork quilt of abortion regulations covered the nation, creating drastic gaps to abortion access from state to state. Three years into this new “normal,” Kelley Fox and Rev. Terry Williams talk about what life is like now that nobody got what they really wanted from the U.S. Supreme Court. Focusing on the impact that confusing abortion laws and vague, ever-changing repro rights restrictions have on patients seeking care, Kelley and Terry frame the present as a prelude to what's possible through religious freedom protections, communal resistance, and effective organizing in the coming years. After a 2023 ballot initiative confirmed that anti-abortion sentiment is a minority position in Ohio, the state's anti-abortion industrial complex split into two fairly distinct ideological camps. Kelley Fox and Rev. Terry Williams explore the rift between Ohio's “Pro-Life Movement” and their foil, the “Abolish Human Abortion” sect — including why those names are better classed as propaganda than truly descriptive. Drawing on strong theological reflection, the history of U.S. reproductive rights, and basic grade-school logic, Kelley and Terry take listeners through the break-up we all knew was coming as the anti-abortion rhetoric starts to not make sense even to its own practitioners. Could it possibly be the best of times as well as the worst of times for the pro-life movement? This has been a topic we have visited before on this show. Following the Supreme Court's decision in the Dobbs case, immediate celebration met the harsh realities of how divided the country remains on abortion. The political reaction to the Dobbs decision, with Blue States in particular enshrining abortion rights in their states, confirmed that overturning the Roe and Caseyregime would not by itself change the culture. But there have been hopeful signs for pro-lifers intermixed with these challenges in the past few years too. To discuss these ever-changing developments, we can't think of someone wewould rather have on our show at a more timely moment than Jennie Bradley Lichter. Jennie assumed the office of President of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund in February, 2025. In this capacity, she proudly directs the organization responsible for the largest annual gathering of pro-lifers, the March forLife in Washington, D.C.Jennie has wide-ranging legal and policy experience in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, including at the highest levels of the federal government. During the Trump Administration, Jennie served in the White House as a Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council (DPC) where she supervised rulemaking and policy efforts implicating a number of federal agencies, and led policy initiatives across the federal government to defend the dignity of life.Prior to her White House service, Jennie was Deputy General Counsel at Catholic University of America, and worked on policy issues and federal judicial (including Supreme Court) confirmation efforts in the Office of Legal Policy at the U.S.Department of Justice. She previously served as in-house counsel for the Archdiocese of Washington. Early in her legal career, Jennie clerked for two federal appeals court judges and was an associate at the international law firm Jones Day.Jennie graduated from the University of Notre Dame and from Harvard Law School, and earned an M.Phil in Theology & Religious Studies from the University of Cambridge in the UK. In this episode, Steve Wood explores the history of the pro-life movement and the surprising rise in abortions after Roe v. Wade was overturned. He challenges the Church's reliance on politics and law, pointing instead to true cultural transformation through spiritual conversion. The fall of Roe v. Wade in 2022, long anticipated by conservatives as a victory for the pro-life movement, has not led to the expected decline in abortions that was prophesied. Instead, demand for abortion remains high, with efforts to enshrine abortion rights in state constitutions gaining momentum.
