"In this line of work, you can't see death as failure. But in this case…very much felt like a failure. I hadn't controlled his pain.” A brief note of caution: as the title suggests, this episode contains a story involving death by suicide. Dr. Laura Kennedy, a palliative care physician, shares a tragic story with Cody from early in her practice—an experience that was, in her own words, "devastating." What she learned from it was that sometimes the established and careful route of treatment might not always be best for every patient. And that even when you think you've failed, it's ok to forgive yourself, learn, and move forward. --- Dying To Tell You: The Caring Perspective is a series of interviews with healthcare professionals who sit down with Cody to share stories of patients and experiences that have changed how they practice, how they view death, and how they live their lives. How do you deal with betrayal, especially when it comes from those you trusted most? Betrayal is one of the hardest challenges to navigate because it shakes the very foundation of trust, security, and certainty that we build our relationships on. So how do you overcome it? How do you learn to trust again? This is a challenge that speaks deeply to our times, especially with the turmoil we're witnessing around the world today. Nations betray their allies, and individuals feel betrayed by friends, whether in politics, business, or personal relationships. Even the media is more often than not unreliable. Betrayal seems to surround us—on both a personal and global scale. But as we approach the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur, this sacred time offers us a profound lesson on how to face and transcend betrayal. There is a path forward, a way to rebuild trust and faith. Join Rabbi Simon Jacobson on the continuing journey of the "60-Day Spiritual Guide" as we explore the timeless wisdom that helps us heal from betrayal and move forward with renewed strength and clarity.

- Speaker: Lukus Counterman - Easter Sunday has come and gone, but the work of our resurrected Savior isn't over. One of the most beautiful post-resurrection accounts in scripture traces the forgiveness of Peter. On the night of Jesus' arrest, Peter denied the Lord three times. He turned away from Jesus, but Jesus didn't turn away from him. After suffering on the cross and rising from the dead, Jesus specifically appeared to Peter. He wanted to forgive his fallen disciple and restore him to service. Forgiveness is something everyone needs. So may the Lord help us learn some powerful lessons this weekend as we embrace his work and follow his example.

Today we're looking at a beautiful story John records which takes place between Peter and Jesus after the Resurrection. The tenderness of Jesus during this pivotal moment leads to true restoration in Peter's life and afterwards we see a different Peter in the New Testament. Pour yourself a cup of coffee and join us! Got a question about today's episode or something else you'd like to hear us talk about on the show? Let us know! Email us at hello@dotbowen.com.Find Dot Bowen on Instagram and Facebook Scripture Verse: John 21:5-10So Jesus said to them, “Children, you do not have any fish, do you?” They answered Him, “No.” And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right-hand side of the boat and you will find a catch.” So they cast, and then they were not able to haul it in because of the great number of fish. Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved *said to Peter, “It is the Lord.” So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put his outer garment on (for he was stripped for work), and threw himself into the sea. But the other disciples came in the little boat, for they were not far from the land, but about one hundred yards away, dragging the net full of fish.So when they got out on the land, they saw a charcoal fire already laid and fish placed on it, and bread. Jesus *said to them, “Bring some of the fish which you have now caught.”

At Confluence 2023, I had the pleasure of leading an all-star panel of visionary thought leaders – holistic psychiatrist Dr. Kelly Brogan, researcher and author Dawn Lester, mystic and somatic facilitator Aubert Bastiat, and host and comedian Robinson Blanchard. I'm thrilled to share that thought-provoking and inspiring conversation with you today. We explore how to overcome a victim mentality and reclaim our agency, compassion, connection, and personal freedom. We talk about how there is no such thing as “good” or “bad” – just what is, going deep on the idea that everything in this world is a “maybe, we'll see.” When we release our ego's grip on us and embrace that mentality, we can find freedom, presence, and joy — knowing that everything is exactly how it's meant to be right now. We also dive into the dark shadow of activism, how to find forgiveness for those who have harmed us, and why we should focus on spreading love in our own sphere of influence instead of blaming others for our circumstances. Each thoughtful and intuitive guest shares personal stories and insights from their individual paths toward claiming sovereignty. You don't want to miss this.
