Sarah Giomi recruits college students for Energy Northwest's Public Power Internship program. Episode NotesContent Editor Producer:  Meena RajuluTechnical Editor and Producer:  Lisa Querido, Producerlisa@popuppodcasting.cahttps://popuppodcasting.ca/teamHost: Shawn AnthonyGuest: Scott SimmsThis is the Shop's first Christmas episode.  I wanted share Christmas memories, from our "Newfoundland Christmas" that was annually hosted in Scarborough.  From those Christmas days, there were so many story ideas that I could share.  I could tell a story about how back in that apartment, we sure didn't have alot in those days, but at Christmas, we felt like we had the world.  I Could speak about how my parents would always put an apple, a tangerine and some grapes in our stockings because when they were kids, that really was a treat in treat in their stocking.  And I even thought about telling the story about the year that my sister got a turn table for Christmas and she looked the happiest I'd ever seen her - almost as happy as Mom and Dad looked giving it to her.  But instead I decided to tell a story I call "Spot at the table".  It's about how my parents would always find room for one more person at our table, regardless the holiday, regardless the reason they were alone.  Without a doubt, cooking a meal for 14 people is complicated, but feeding just one or two more was never that big of a deal.  In fact, it seemed quite simple actually.    In this episode, I did a story exchange with an old friend, Scott Simms.  Scott was the MP for my home town of Fogo Island for 17 years.  He just moved back to Newfoundland and is for the first time in 17 years, not returning after the holiday for Parliament.  Between the stories, I get a chance to ask how Scott is doing, what his plans look like, what's next?I also take this opportunity to look back over the last year, and Thank a few friends who made this podcast possible, and people who have been instrumental for me on this Storytelling journey that I'm on. I also give mention to Monique Doolittle Romas and her crew at The Good Companions Seniors' Centre.  There, I help out with Santa-4-Seniors fund raiser.   It's been a great year.  The number of listeners have increased with every episode.  Let's keep it going in 2022!

Scott Simms, a Liberal MP from Newfoundland for 17 years, was long recognized as a leading voice on Parliament Hill on cultural and digital policy. Simms recently served as the chair of the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage, which conducted the review of Bill C-10 and which placed him at the heart of one of the year's more controversial pieces of proposed legislation. Simms was not re-elected this past fall and is now well positioned to reflect on policy making in Canada and the issues that arose with Bill C-10. He joins the Law Bytes podcast for a conversation about the bill, his suggestions for how the process can be improved, and his thoughts on the challenges of crafting forward-looking digital policies. (7:39) a Stephenville father whose 7 1/2-yo son caught Covid-19 says this province is no longer doing enough to protect people from the fourth wave, and (16:31) Scott Simms, the seventeen-year Liberal incumbent is out - and Conservative Clifford Small has been elected in the federal riding of Coast of Bays-Central-Notre Dame. We talk to Simms about his sometimes colourful career.

Coast of Bays-Central-Notre Dame - In advance of the Mon., Sept. 20 federal election, we feature the candidates from the four ridings in central and western Newfoundland, as well as Labrador. In Coast of Bays-Central-Notre Dame, Clifford Small is running for the Conservative Party of Canada, and Scott Simms is running for the Liberal Party of Canada. CBC asked New Democratic Party candidate Jamie Ruby to participate, but we didn't get a reply from him.

Scott Simms has many judging certifications in numerous associations.  As his personal equine goals change, his focus is now on giving back and helping develop the next generation of knowledgeable cowboy and cowgirl!   There's always lots to learn from people that have been there and done that.  Scott is an excellent role model and has a plethora or agriculture knowledge and is willing to share.  Thank goodness for cowboys like Scott to light the way for tomorrow's generations!
