How do we remember the most forgotten in the world? Humaira's family fled Afghanistan as refugees when she was a child. But it wasn't until she was working in Palestine with refugee youth that she began to truly understand her own story as a refugee, and how to center the most overlooked and unheard on the margins of society. Then, in August the US pulled out of Afghanistan, the Taliban retook control, and suddenly her people were abandoned. Humaira has been tirelessly advocating for the Afghan people ever since, demanding that the world not abandon the Afghan people to a future robbed of their most basic rights. Humaira reminds us that forgetting those on the margins is a choice—and we have the power to choose instead to center their leadership and advocate for a future full of hope.Humaira's work represents what it looks like to Center the Leadership of the Marginalized, our fourth Practice of Peacemaking. "Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash." ~ Leonard Cohen... Poetry and writing are important aspects of human culture. We wouldn't be able to channel our thoughts, ideas, and feelings if it weren't for poetry! As a society, writing and poetry have shown us the mirror... Poets, writers, and people with a great deal of empathy have inspired us all to be more aware of our surroundings, to be more compassionate toward others, and to learn the true nature of reality, time and time again! We have an all-rounder guest from Mumbai on this episode of All Fingers & Thumbs. Humaira is a poet, a writer, an economist, a psychology student, and a professor all rolled into one! “If you are a leader, you have to be a role model to others. There is no other choice” - Humaira Tasneem Great to have Humaira Tasneem, captain of the UAE women's cricket team in this podcast. She once said, “Because if you don’t take calculative risks as a captain, then you are not doing it right. As a young cricket captain, she increasingly encourages young women from different nationalities to participate in this sport. She is one of those very young captains of a sport where it's hard to get respect and to attract new female team members, especially in a male-dominated sport. Her Life Book called “polydextrous” a word which describes the skillset to draw with both hands. It’s a synonym for her life to balance multiple challenges. In the life book, she got 3 chapters and shares what it takes to rise above the difficulties as a young captain and how to lead as a role model, it’s next goal for her team the World Cup and how to continue working on her designer and illustrator skillset. Enjoy! Never give up

--- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
I can't tell you the number of times I've seen startups just start building without having done any research into their audience. What happens? They build, release, and wonder why no one wants what they have. User research is critical early on (and even ongoing) if you want to build a lasting company. We've all heard of Product-Market Fit, but this week in my conversation with Humaira Ahmed, Founder & CEO of Locelle, she brings to the table a new term that will change how you think about your audience: PROBLEM-Market Fit. She shares her story of how focusing on Problem-market Fit out of the gate is what's helped Locelle get off the ground and generate revenue early on while bootstrapped.Head to startuphypeman.com/articles/humaira-ahmed-podcast for a bonus blog post written by Humaira where she breaks it down even further. BBC Urdu's Humaira Kanwal has reported on the Kohistan video case for many years, and was helped by the man pursuing justice, Afzal Kohistani. In 2012 a video emerged showing five young women from Kohistan singing and clapping with two young men, behaviour forbidden is this region. The men were Afzal's brothers and although they escaped, three other brothers were killed in the name of honour. Afzal believed the women were also killed, and took the case to Pakistan's Supreme Court. And now Afzal himself has been killed. Humaira remembers him. Humaira Shahid might have had a gilded life, and no-one would have blamed her. She was born into the privileged classes of Pakistan, enjoyed a happy and liberal childhood, and married well into a newspaper dynasty. The important men in her life adored her and admired her and encouraged her to fulfil herself rather than take the subservient role imposed on many Pakistani women. She became an academic, teaching literature, and that might have been that. But Humaira's personal life contained a series of heartbreaking tragedies, and as she participated in her husband's journalistic activities, she gained a first-hand knowledge of dreadful injustice and suffering in Pakistan. Driven by a fiery … Continue reading →
