I am appalled to see how much of the change which I thought I had undergone lately was only imaginary. The real work seems still to be done. What are some ways a person's identity might stay the same? What has this looked like for you? 3. In vv.5-6, Paul gives a list of reasons why he would have more reason for confidence in the flesh than others. If you were to have confidence in the flesh, what are some items that would be on your list? Do you wrestle with putting too much confidence in the flesh? Explain. 4. In Phil 3:7-11, we learn that knowing Christ means we have new values. In vv.7-8, he says the things he used to consider as gain he now considers as loss. What are some of the “gains” in your life that you consider to be valuable? Are there any “gains” in your life you should re-evaluate so that you value them in a healthier way? 5. Paul says he considers everything as loss compared with the surpassing value of knowing Christ (v.8). What does he mean and how can he say this? Can you say this? 6. Jesus has surpassing worth because we can be justified and made right with God through Him (v.9). Was there a time in your life when you were moved by this truth that God provides the righteousness He demands? 7. Jesus has surpassing worth because we can experience the power of his resurrection even in our sufferings (v.10). How can we identify with Jesus when we suffer so we experience this power? Have you experienced this? 8. Jesus has surpassing worth because we experience the hope of future resurrection through Him (v.11). Why does having this hope of future glorification motivate us to value Jesus now? Pray for the Unreached: The Ansari are a Sunni Muslim group in India, historically weavers and textile sellers, now involved in various businesses. Many live in poverty and face illiteracy, though some have contributed to education and politics. Known for their hospitality, they offer opportunities for believers to share the gospel. Recent efforts have seen some Ansari families come to Christ, but they remain largely unreached. Pray for Indian believers to reach out with love and share the gospel with Ansari families and leaders, revealing to them the love and hope only offered through Christ.FinancesWeekly Budget 35,297Giving For 02/09 36,524Giving For 02/16 19,506YTD Budget 1,164,806Giving 1,152,806 OVER/(UNDER) (12,000)Men's Muster 2025 A car out of alignment is harder to steer, wears down faster, and wastes fuel. Is there an immediate insight or application you would like to share from the passage or the message?Paul presents Timothy and Epaphroditus as exemplary models of proven worth in ministry. Who has been a role model for you by their commitment to ministry? How has their life challenged you to a deeper life of service?Reflect on your own life. What does it mean to seek the interests of Jesus Christ rather than your own interests (ref. v.21)?Describe the different groups of people within your circle of influence. In what ways are you an example to them of what it means to serve Christ? In what ways do you fall short?Paul's concern for Epaphroditus is described in verse 27, and expressed the sorrow he would experience if Epaphroditus were to die. What does this suggest to you about praying for others? about experiencing sorrow with the loss of a loved one (ref. 1 Thessalonians 4:13)?Paul desired to send these men to strengthen and encourage the Philippian believers. Who can you reach out to strengthen and encourage this week?Pray for the Unreached: People Groups in the United States The United States is home to over 520 distinct people groups, 98 of which are unreached peoples. These include immigrants, refugees, Indigenous communities, and even international students. While many enjoy access to the gospel, language barriers, cultural isolation, and secular influences present significant challenges to reaching some communities with the gospel. Pray for laborers to be sent into these communities, equipped to bridge cultural and linguistic gaps with the love of Christ. Lift up local churches and ministries to boldly engage these groups, providing resources, discipleship, and community.Elder's Retreat: February 21-22Please be in prayer for our elders as they spend time with each other and before the Lord focusing on their Spiritual Responsibility, Personal Accountability, and Leadership of our Body.New to Fellowship? We are so glad that you chose to worship with our Fellowship Family this morning. Why is it easier to relax in your obedience when you are alone? Or when you are facing a stranger who frustrates you?Paul continues in verse 12 with how they are to continue in their obedience, with “fear and trembling.” What is the “fear” that would cause you to “tremble” about disobedience in those situations?Verse 13 conveys an active participation between you and God that results in spiritual growth. At what times and situations do you find your will to obey the weakest? What does this passage teach you to do in these situations? In verses 14 and 15, Paul relates that living as a Christian blamelessly and without fault (NIV) means doing everything without complaining or arguing. When and with whom is it easy to disobey this command? Why does doing everything without complaining or arguing make you “shine as lights” in the dark places of this world?Shining as lights in a warped and crooked generation requires that you “hold firmly to the word of life” (verse 16). In what ways does radical obedience to God's word bring light into our messed up world?Pray for the Unreached: Arabic-speaking Algerians are descendants of Berbers who converted to Islam after the Arab invasions. They form the majority population, speaking Algerian Arabic and following Sunni Muslim traditions. Many face unemployment, prompting migration to France and elsewhere for work. 12-year-old Lancaster resident Lucus Kreider is on a mission to better the community he lives in. Lucus along with his mother, Sophia Kreider, created Peace Kids to the Rescue Art Show and Silent Auction. “So, at a young age, I was involved with people who are experiencing homelessness and people who are less fortunate than we are. So that just kind of inspired me, to try to do whatever I can to help people who are less fortunate than us. So, I was really into art at the time and made an art show, “said Lucus. Sophia gathered all her resources and began trying to turn Lucus' dream of helping others into a reality. “As a mom, there's lots of fun little ideas that come up on a day-to-day basis. And you, you only have so much time and energy to do things. But I thought, you know what? Let's give this a go and see what happens. But I don't think Lucas, or I ever imagined that it would grow to the degree that it has. So, it's been it's been pure joy, “said Sophia. 2024 is the 6th Annual Peace Kids to the Rescue Art Show and Silent Auction. Children from ages 6-19 create art, and the pieces are auctioned off at the event. “I think it just little by little, the community has come to know this event and has come to look forward to the event. And we're also trying to grow it by connecting with various nonprofits that, also want to collaborate in the sense that they want to bring children into the fold of the peace kids. So, this year we have, close to ten, perhaps children that are part of the mix for kids, organization, nonprofit. Who has donated art. And so that's also part of the wider view is how do we collaborate with other nonprofits that are out there in the world and really wanting to also empower children in various ways, “said Sophia.   CLICK HERE to donate.Support WITF: https://www.witf.org/support/give-now/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Has this been a pleasant experience or a frustrating one? How much would you be willing to pay for an “ultimate” and “final” upgrade to your computer or phone? Why?• 1 Corinthians 1:18 tells us that “the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing.” Why do people in our time see the cross as foolishness? Do you know anyone who openly rejects the message of the gospel? How do you interact with them? • The same verse assures us that the message of the cross is “the power of God to us who are being saved.” What is the power of the gospel? It is clearly a power for salvation, but it is more than that. It is a power for transformation. Are you experiencing the power of the cross in your life? Where? Where do you need it?• This week, we talked a lot about Jesus being “the way, the truth and the life” (John 14:6). Talk more about how Jesus is the way. To what is Jesus the way? Be careful not to be simplistic in your answer here. • In what way is Jesus the truth? The truth about what? • Jesus is the life. What life? How do we access that life? How do we know if Jesus is life to us? • Who do you know that experiences Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life? What is keeping you from that experience?• Consider fasting one day this week to meditate on Christ's example & provision for us. Conviction: So What?• Where does this fit? - John's Gospel approaches the life of Jesus totally different than the Synoptics. 92% of the material in John is unique to John. - John starts his gospel with a clear declaration of the deity of Christ which parallels the opening chapter of Genesis. - John clearly states his purpose to demonstrate Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, so that people will believe and find life. - John likes to present Jesus in dialogue with others.• What should we believe? - Jesus is the Messiah/Christ-the long-awaited Savior promised in the Old Testament. - Only by having faith in Jesus, receiving his provision of salvation, can a person find eternal life.• How should we behave? - Accept the provision of salvation through Jesus. - Abide in Christ empowered by the Holy Spirit despite opposition. - Share the message of eternal life through Jesus the Messiah with others.Next Steps • Believe that Jesus is the anointed provision of God for salvation. Home Church Questions • What about Ken's presentation of John was most helpful and challenging?• Likely the most well-known verse in Scripture is John 3:16. Have someone in the group quote the verse. Then take the opportunity to let everyone share their conversion and the influences that led up to their belief. (2 minute limit)• John's gospel starts and ends with Jesus's invitation (or mandate) to “follow me” (1:43; 21:19,22). What has been your greatest joy in your journey of following Christ? What is your greatest obstacle?• Read Jesus's illustration of the vine and the branches (15:1-17). There are many truths contained in these powerful words. Which particular truth stands out to you, and why? • Jesus prayed for us as his church in 17:20-26. Read his prayer recorded there. In your experience, how has the unity of the church attracted those outside the church? How has lack of unity repelled outsiders? Conviction: So What?• Where does this fit? - The Gospel is the first volume of Luke's two-volume work, Luke-Acts, which function together to justify and support the missionary work of his companion, the Apostle Paul. - Luke ties the work of Paul's Gentile Mission back to Jesus' inclusive offer of Salvation to all people and connects that to Old Testament promises. - Luke also looks forward to the ministry of Jesus' disciples in taking the message of Jesus saving work to everyone everywhere. Jesus trained his followers for this mission.• What should we believe? - Jesus is the Messiah/Christ—the long-awaited Savior promised in the Old Testament. - Jesus opens the door for all people, especially those who are outcasts in the world and looked down upon by influential and religious hypocrites. - Jesus' followers have been trained and charged with taking the message of Salvation by grace accomplished by the finished work of Jesus to a world that needs this message. Home Church Questions • What about Ken's presentation of Luke was most helpful and challenging?• Among the gospels, Luke alone records the song of Mary (1:46-56). What part of Mary's beautiful song of praise and appreciation captures where you are in your walk right now? Why? • In verse 53 of Mary's song, the “hungry” are contrasted with the “rich,” referring to spiritual hunger. Would you characterize your spiritual hunger right now as “on the increase,” “flat,” or “waning a bit?” In either case, what is happening in your life that is causing your response? • Read 10:38-42, where Luke tells us of Jesus's visit to the home of Mary and Martha. When have you been “anxious and troubled about many things,” and what would be the “good portion” that would stand in contrast? • Read the parables in 11:5-8 and 18:1-8 in which Jesus taught persistence in prayer. How is this instructive to you in your prayer life? What are you praying for that you are tempted to give up?• Luke emphasizes that the gospel is for all, with an emphasis on Gentiles and societal outcasts, i.e., the “outsiders” of Judaism.
