Just ask Alexa, who fondly recalls being literally breathless when turning a corner during a Swiss hike to discover a magnificent cascade appearing out of nowhere. That magical moment sparked a passion that led us on an unforgettable journey through Washington's Olympic Peninsula, armed with nothing but a waterfall brochure and an appetite for natural wonder.The peninsula reveals itself as a wonderland of diverse cascades, each with its own distinct personality. Near Port Angeles, we discovered Madison Falls, a peaceful 60-foot drop nestled in a mossy grove perfect for quiet contemplation, and Marymere Falls, where a winding trail through ancient forest rewards hikers with a spectacular 90-foot waterfall. Venturing into the Hoh Rainforest transported us to an otherworldly landscape where everything drips with moisture and vibrant green moss hangs like curtains from towering trees. Here, smaller cascades like Mineral Creek Falls reveal themselves along misty trails, surrounded by the greenest forest floor imaginable.The Quinault Rainforest offered its own waterfall treasures, from roadside-accessible Merriman Falls to the wild beauty of Bunch Creek Falls with its dramatic 60-foot drop over rocky ledges. Though we couldn't make the 13-mile trek to the legendary "Valley of 10,000 Waterfalls" in Enchanted Valley, it's firmly on our bucket list for our next peninsula adventure. For waterfall chasers planning their own Olympic Peninsula journey, we recommend visiting during spring snowmelt or rainy months for maximum flow, and don't miss coastal falls like Strawberry Bay where cascades meet the sea at low tide. Imagine taking a weekend getaway to another country without needing a car or getting on a plane! Kim recently took a trip to Victoria, British Columbia. Victoria is on the tip of Vancouver Island and is actually closer to the U.S. than Vancouver. You can take a high-speed ferry on the Victoria Clipper directly from Seattle. Another option is to take a seaplane from Kenmore Air or Harbour Air from Vancouver. There is also a car ferry from the Port Angeles area. You can listen to more about Kim's previous trip on Episode 139 about Victoria or read her tips for taking the Victoria Clipper. This trip was hosted by the Victoria Clipper. The high-speed ferry takes about 2.5 hours from Seattle. The ferry drops off in the main Victoria Harbor and you can walk to the Inn at Laurel Point. Kim has also stayed at the Coast Hotel during a previous stay, but that is slightly further away from the city center. The Fairmont Empress is great for a luxury stay or even just to book a high tea experience. Things to do on a weekend getaway: Butchart Gardens - which also offers high tea in the original family home. If you book a trip on the Victoria Clipper, they offer vacation packages that also include things like bus transfers to the Gardens. In the Harbour, Canada has done a place-making project to give more visibility to First Nations as it was historically a very important cultural site for many local First Nations people. There are three free daily shuttles to the Malahat Skywalk, which is owned by the Malahat Nation. You climb a ramp through an open, beehive-like structure and at the top, you can climb on a net and look out over the scenery and the water. There are also various sculptures made by locals. You can walk back down or take a slide for part of the descent. You can also go wine tasting in Victoria at Blue Grouse Estate Winery with a gorgeous tasting room, or the Venturi-Schultz Vineyard, where they also make estate balsamic vinegar and Enrico Winery. Local wines include Pinot Noir, sparkling wine, and white wines. Ritual Nordic Spa in downtown Victoria has a great Nordic spa experience with steam, a sauna, a cold plunge pool, salt room, showers, an infrared sauna, and a private patio for relaxation. Aura is the restaurant at the Inn at Laurel Point and is excellent (the coffee shop also has amazing croissants) Endive is a pescatarian restaurant with seasonal ingredients and many things are served family style.

Thom is a 5th generation of the west. After spending 9 years in the US Navy, the majority of which was as a Missile Technician aboard a Polaris Submarine, Thom was discharged while living on Washington's Olympic Peninsula. He began college in Port Angeles, WA and finished his degree in Logging Engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle. During this time, he owned and operated a small logging company on the North and West ends of the Peninsula. It was sightings at this time that fanned the flames of interest that were kindled by the Jerry Crew Incident in Northern California in 1958 and eventually led to his current work. Being a mainstay in the Sasquatch Community, Thom's findings have shaped current thoughts on Sasquatch and he has mentored many researchers in this field. In the late summer of 2019, 41-year-old Joshua Simiskey left his father's home in Tacoma, Washington, and headed for Port Angeles, about 2 hours away. Josh stayed there for several weeks and told his family he planned to go on a spiritual journey. Josh met a woman during his time in Port Angeles, and things got weird. The last known communication from Josh was a voicemail that he left for his father on October 6, saying that he had given away his car and other possessions. The woman he had recently met in Port Angeles had a handwritten note, allegedly penned by Josh, saying he was giving everything to her. Was this indeed what Josh wanted, or had something more sinister happened?As Josh's family rushed to find him, things became more bizarre.
