Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. Today we talk about the best Chris - Chris Pine of course! Our B-Sides include Small Town Saturday Night, People Like Us, The Finest Hours, Outlaw King, All The Old Knives, and Poolman. It's a packed episode! And it's just Conor and Dan, ripping it up like the old days. A lot of the conversation revolves around how charming Pine is. There's also discussion of that underwhelming ending of The Finest Hours, what about Small Town Saturday Night resonates with young filmmakers, the brave opening of Outlaw King, the old-fashioned crackle of All The Old Knives (and that incredible restaurant location), and the lackluster direction of People Like Us. Questions are asked such as: Is there anything better than a tired spy? Who is the best Jack Ryan? Why does this Big Daddy clip feature the funniest ADR line in the history of cinema? Additional topics include Jordan and Dan's fateful trip to see an early screening of Avatar in late 2009, the stark difference (despite career similarities) between Pine and Ryan Reynolds, the incredible show Psych, and this spot-on Bilge Ebiri article about the Argylle release and why it matters. Finally, Conor and Dan try to understand why people hate the very charming, very Los Angeles Poolman so much. Though there should've been more pool stuff in Poolman! One correction: Safe House came out 2012, not 2010. Sorry about that! Be sure to give us a follow on Twitter and Facebook at @TFSBSide. Writing authentically leads to the most genuine and relatable music. Whether a song is rooted in a personal experience or crafted from an imaginary situation, the goal is to write something that feels true and natural. Storytelling is a technique that allows songwriters to draw listeners into the song in an engaging way while expressing a core message and emotion. I couldn't be more excited to share my conversation with Mary Heather Hickman focusing on writing authentic and story-driven songs. We talk about being songwriters first, writing edgier and story-driven songs, storytelling in both personal and fictional songs, stepping into the shoes of a song's character while writing, tapping into our imaginations when writing story songs or ones not inspired by personal experiences, achieving authenticity while performing story songs, sharing the inspiration and story behind songs at shows, getting into the character's mindset while recording story songs, funny studio memories, the beauty of collaboration in the studio, and much more. We also explore Mary Heather's experience on the Voice, her single, “Small Town Saturday Night,” and genres in the country music industry. I had a blast chatting with Mary Heather, so I hope you love our conversation. Are you enjoying Write on Track? Do you have a topic suggestion for an episode? Would you like to be a guest? This week we have a guest to remember. Aside from being an incredibly warm and insightful human, Mary Heather Hickman seems to never stop writing, releasing, and touring. Born and raised in Arkansas with country in her heart, she took the plunge and moved to Nashville to work as a writer. Finding herself with songs that she felt too personal to give away, the story of Mary Heather Hickman began. She made waves as somewhat of an outlaw, unafraid to write about the world as she sees it, no matter the opinions of others. From murder ballads to viral singles, she caught the attention of iHeart Radio and also came to be featured on The Bobby Bones Show. This is only the beginning for her. We caught up with Mary Heather to hear about the experiences that have shaped her career so far, going deep into her writing process and philosophy in support of her brand new single. You can stream ‘Small Town Saturday Night' right now and support an incredible and deserving artist. In this interview, Jamie and Mary Heather talk about:- The story behind 'Small Town Saturday Night'- Balancing dark topics with humorous lyrics- Mary Heather's approach to writing melody- Are the stories she writes about derived from her life experiences?- What led to Mary Heather and her co-writer, Stephanie, working together?- The difference between a good and a great song- What got Mary Heather into writing country- Not taking criticism personally- Moving to Nashville- Pushing boundaries- Writing for yourself vs other people- and more.Mary Heather's Socials:YouTubeInstagramTwitterListen to Small Town Saturday Night on Spotify---------------Book a free consultation call with Jamie: https://calendly.com/jamiekarlcoupe/60minJamie's Instagram: @jamiekarlcoupeJamie's Website: jamiekarlcoupe.comGet your song reviewed: send an MP3 or download link to iwishiknewthatpod@gmail.comSend us videos of you playing, suggestions or questions on Instagram. Every once in a while we all need to get a gut check. A "gut check" is when some new situation, or in this case knowledge, that tests your belief on what it takes to achieve your goal.I invited Sebastian Twardosz to give us that gut check and lay down some major knowledge bombs on the Indie Film Hustle Tribe. Now Sebastian has been playing the Hollywood game for close to two decades and has ranked up some major experience. Hollywood and the film business in general is a "relationship business". Here's what Sebastian said:"Some of you will be successful and some of you will be less successful—it's a numbers game, but regardless of the stats, you will likely fail if you don't help each other."Sebastian Twardosz's first production job was from 1995-1999 for Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner's Paramount-based company where he started as an assistant and was promoted to executive, actively participating in the making of Mission Impossible 1-2 and Without Limits.Like many hopefuls wanting to get into the film biz, Sebastian Twardosz started as an agent's assistant in the motion picture department at ICM. He graduated from the USC School of Cinematic Arts in 1993. His short film, Silent Rain, received a Student Academy Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as well as the Student Emmy.Sebastian co-produced the independent feature Small Town Saturday Night starring Chris Pine, and he has been an adjunct professor at both UCLA and USC Film Schools teaching about the art and business of film since 2006.He also hosted a weekly show called The Insiders which aims to shed light on the “behind-the-scenes world of Hollywood” for aspiring filmmakers. Sebastian is currently a partner in Circus Road Films, which advises and represents emerging filmmakers. Take a listen to this eye opening interview.

HAL KETCHUMs latest CD Father Time is the ninth album in a distinguished musical career that includes such indelible Top 10 hits as "Small Town Saturday Night," "Past The Point of Rescue," "Hearts Are Gonna Roll" and "Stay Forever." Reared in the village of Greenwich in the gorgeously verdant countryside of upstate New York, Ketchum hails from a family where singing and playing music was part of the daily (and nightly) diet for generations. DAILEY & VINCENT captured an unprecedented seven International Bluegrass Music Awards including the IBMA Entertainers of the Year. Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent are veterans of Bluegrass music having some twenty years experience between the two of them from long tenures with Bluegrass and Country legends Doyle Lawson and Ricky Skaggs.
Hal ketchum first hit the top of the charts in 1991 with his first single Small Town Saturday Night. For his ninth studio album, Hal wanted to go 'Old School' and record the songs from start to finish on just two tracks; with no technical tricks or slicked up tracks, so what you hear is what was played on his new album, Father Time. Kelly Lynn Caught up with Hal at his release party at BMI.
