Will any of today's hit songs still be sung 50 years from now?Kurt, Tully, KLo, and Neil look back at the music that shaped them—from Hank Williams Jr., Van Halen, and Def Leppard to John Denver, Glen Campbell, Elvis, Bryan Adams, and Paul Rodgers—and debate whether modern songs are given enough time to become true classics. They also reveal how Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan's alternating stadium show works, explain why songwriters don't really “sell” individual songs, and discuss how streaming and shrinking attention spans have changed the way listeners experience music. Then things deteriorate—in the best possible way—with exhausted airport stories, Tully's confrontation on a plane, the dangers of flying with guitars, UPS losing a one-of-a-kind custom bass, Kelley mistaking his treadmill malfunction for an earthquake, and the strangest things fans throw onstage.Listen all the way through and remember the secret phrase: “Donk Toss.”______________________________________________________________________________________________SPONSORS: The Try That in a Small Town Podcast is powered by e|spaces!Redefining Coworking - Exceptional Office Space for Every BusinessBook a tour today at espaces.comFrom the Patriot Mobile studios:Don't get fooled by other cellular providers pretending to share your values or have the same coverage. Conway Jr Show Hour 2 (6.15) In the 7 p.m. hour of “The Tim Conway Jr. Show,” the crew waves goodbye to the NBA and NHL playoffs (with a big “ouch” to the Spurs for that brutal collapse) and fully embraces World Cup fever. Tim shares his hilarious Parker, Arizona trip where the scorching desert heat was bad enough, but his casino sleep got absolutely wrecked by a loud jet ski race right outside. He’s already hyped for Monday Night Football’s return, especially that legendary Hank Williams Jr. theme song, and recalls the surreal 1980 moment when a football announcer told the crowd John Lennon was “dead on arrival.” Full disclosure: Timmy started the show dripping sweat because the crew was hooping beforehand and he was out there slam-dunking like a man possessed (check the evidence on his Instagram @conwayshow). The hour ends on a somber note with the tragic crash of a B-52 bomber at Edwards Air Force Base that killed all eight people on board. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On a recent podcast interview, Kentucky rapper Jack Harlow said that, to craft his new album Monica, he “got blacker.” The problem is… Jack Harlow is white. The statement, while extremely tone-deaf, speaks to his intentions with this musical pivot: musically, Monica turns to the historically Black genres of R&B and neo-soul to craft a new image designed to shed the stigma of being a “white rapper.” The pivot is more costume than culture, but in doing so, Harlow seems to be following in the footsteps of several white rappers over the past decade. Artists like Post Malone, MGK, and Jelly Roll have all had radical shifts in sound and image over their career, separating themselves from their roots in hip-hop. In this powerful episode of Fed by the Fruit, KB sits down with Hilary Williams—daughter of country music legend Hank Williams Jr. and granddaughter of Hank Sr.—to share a testimony only God could write. Hilary opens up about growing up in the “Kennedys of country music,” being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just eight years old, and the devastating car accident in 2006 that nearly took her life. She recounts the terrifying moments after the crash, her out-of-body experience, and what she saw and heard in heaven: streets of gold, worship, joy, and even Johnny Cash and June Carter in their glorified bodies.Hilary also shares honestly about her long road of recovery—multiple surgeries, chronic pain, PTSD, addiction to anxiety meds, and the ongoing realities of living with diabetes and a traumatic brain injury. But woven through every detail is the undeniable faithfulness of God: from Jesus visiting her as a child and promising to always take care of her, to the peace and healing she's experienced through prayer, holistic care, and the support of others. If you've ever wrestled with fear, grief, or the question of where God is in suffering, this Christian testimony will encourage you to see your scars as evidence of His mercy and remind you that, in Christ, there truly is a future and a hope. This episode serves as both an informative guide to embrace a healthier, more balanced lifestyle, encouraging listeners to embark on their journeys with renewed vigor and compassion.Reach out to KB on Instagram and share your thoughts and connect with Hilary on Instagram

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!Date: September 3, 2025Name of podcast: Backstage Pass RadioS9: E5: Little Bihlman (John Fogerty, Jelly Roll, Grinder Blues) - Sonic EvolutionSHOW SUMMARY:Ever wonder what happens when a multi-instrumentalist with four Emmy Awards decides to channel Pink Floyd through a modern rock lens? Little Bihlman's upcoming album "Heavy Head" answers that question with authority.  Returning to Backstage Pass Radio, Little Bihlman shares the creative journey behind his darkest, most ambitious record to date. Having toured and recorded with legends spanning from BB King to Ted Nugent, Hank Williams Jr. to Jelly Roll, and even Pink, Little Bihlman brings decades of musical expertise to this Floyd-influenced collection. "I'm a rocker," he admits, despite his versatility across blues, country, and other genres.  The conversation takes us deep into the making of "Heavy Head," set for release through V13 Music with its first single dropping August 8th. Little Bihlman previews "Fade Away," a straight-ahead rocker featuring guitar work from Shrapnel Records founder Mike Varney, while explaining why his favorite track remains the Floyd-esque title song. For an artist who's played countless sessions and toured extensively, this record represents a personal milestone—one where he follows his "goosebumps" rather than chasing trends.  Beyond music, Little Bihlman reveals his recent role as a mobster in the upcoming Nicolas Cage film "Spider-Man Noir" and discusses his forthcoming memoir. He offers candid insights about the modern music industry, advocating for independent approaches over traditional record deals unless "they're gonna blow you out." It's a masterclass in artistic sustainability from someone who's survived and thrived across decades of industry changes.  Whether you're a longtime fan or discovering him for the first time, Little Bihlman's blend of technical prowess, storytelling, and authentic rock energy promises something special with "Heavy Head." HANK WILLIAMS, JR. / WHISKEY BENT AND HELL BOUND / ELEKTRA, 1979I have a good story about Hank Williams, Jr., aka “Bocephus:” My late wife, Chemayne grew up in the backstages and dressing rooms of the biggest rock n roll arenas in the Southeast. Her mom worked for a couple of regional mega promoters, and Chemayne had many encounters with such 70's luminaries as Willy Nelson, James Taylor, Roger Daltry, Mick Jagger, Elton John, etc.  One memorable meeting involved the son of “The Hillbilly Shakespeare.” I guess she was about eight, and Hank decided to take out and display his glass eye in order to tease her. Freaked her out so bad the memory was burned into her brain for all time. Hank worked hard to cultivate his Outlaw image, and to both embrace, and out run the weight of his father's immense legacy, and along the way he kicked the shit out of himself, but made some damn fine records. This album was created during his high point of the late 70s-early 80s when his combination of Country, blues, and Rock went main stream -  between his monster hits Family Tradition, and All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down. He was so big that in the early 90s he became the identifiable voice of Monday Night Football. Not only did he embody his own “Family Tradition”, but America's as well, it seems. It's worth noting also that the disc was produced by Jimmy Bowen, who also produced Frank Sinatra's Strangers in the Night - which demonstrates some cross over wizardry in service of one of Country music's arguably biggest cross over artists.
