On the Road: Jay Mac and Spider Monkey are driving straight into the sun, heading to a competition. The conversation veers from the nostalgia of social media days (remember Friendster vs. MySpace?) to the Super Bowl wardrobe malfunction that feels like ancient history now. The Single Life vs. Settling Down: The Kid reflects on how life has flipped for him; he was once the married guy when the show started, now he's the single one amidst settled friends. There's a humorous nod to Hank Williams Jr.'s song about his friends settling down, mirroring the Kid's own life journey. Parenting and Privacy: The topic shifts to the complexities of parenting and personal life, discussing how modern technology like Life 360 blurs the lines between parental concern and privacy. The hosts share experiences about their children's reactions to their dating life, highlighting the delicate balance of introducing new partners to kids. Sexual Dynamics Post-COVID: The conversation takes a turn to discuss the effects of COVID on sexual performance, with Hat Trick sharing an amusing yet insightful anecdote about expectations after a long hiatus. The hosts humorously ponder if there's a correlation between health crises and bedroom activities. Tigers Talk: Baseball fans at heart, they discuss the Detroit Tigers' surprising season, predicting outcomes with the same passion they put into their personal tales. Philosophy on Happiness: Towards the end, there's a deeper dive into the philosophy of happiness. The Kid emphasizes the importance of wanting friends to be happy, not jealous, showcasing a mature perspective on relationships and friendships. Wrapping Up: Final words are shared with light-heartedness and a nod to the future, imagining listeners a hundred years from now, possibly puzzled or amused by the raw, real antics of *The Goin' Deep Show*. Country Music Hall of Famer Lacy J. Dalton  The Queen of Country Music LACY'S BIO Lacy J. Dalton (born Jill Lynne Byrem on October 13, 1946 in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania), is an American country singer and songwriter with a career that has spanned many decades and touched the hearts of millions of music fans. In March 2017 Lacy J Dalton was inducted into the North American Country Music Association International Hall of Fame, and in 2022 she was awarded a Lifetime Career Achievement Award from the Josie Music Awards, the largest independent music awards show in the country. She's one of the most instantly recognizable voices in music – the woman People Magazine called “Country's Bonnie Raitt.” From the first time Lacy J Dalton caught the public's ear, that soulful delivery, full of texture and grit, has been a mainstay of Country Music. When you sit to listen to a Lacy J Dalton album, you find yourself pulled in by the very power and heart of this vocalist, because she's not merely performing a ten-song set, she's bringing each and every tune to life. It's as if they were all written especially for her. Prior to recording with Harbor Records in 1978 as Jill Croston, she like many before her, held many jobs to survive and support her family. As a truck stop waitress and singer, she would wait tables and then take the stage to sing a few songs. In June 1979, Lacy J Dalton was signed by Columbia Records and quickly rose to national prominence with Crazy Blue Eyes, which she wrote with her longest friend, Mary McFadden, and which raced to #7 on the Billboard Country Charts.  Her hard work and dedication paid off in 1979 when she was awarded the Academy of Country Music's Top New Female Vocalist of the Year.   Lacy's success was powered not just by the artist's recordings, but by a stage show that truly electrified audiences. She quickly became one of the few women who could successfully open a show for the likes of Hank Williams, Jr., Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard or Charlie Daniels. Not only could she do it, but she left audiences across the country hollering for more. Her signature song 16th Avenue, became the Anthem for Nashville songwriters.  Her other hit records are legendary million-airplay cuts and include Crazy Blue Eyes, Takin' It Easy, Everybody Makes Mistakes, Hillbilly Girl with the Blues, Hard Times, and the worldwide hit Black Coffee. In addition to her Top New Female Vocalist award, she also brought home numerous Grammy nominations and 3 prestigious, back to back (1979, 1980, 1981) Bay Area Music Awards for Best Country-Folk Recordings. Lacy appeared on those shows with the likes of Neil Young, The Grateful Dead, Grace Slick and the Jefferson Airplane. Lacy's collaboration with Willie Nelson on his platinum Half Nelson CD was a high spot for her. Lacy is the only woman featured on that recording (which included singing legends Ray Charles, Neil Diamond, Merle Haggard, Julio Iglesias, George Jones, Leon Russell, Carlos Santana, Mel Tillis, Hank Williams Sr., and Neil Young), and was awarded a Platinum Record for it. She also received a Gold Record from Hank Williams Jr. in 1985 for her support performances throughout his Five-0 Tour, where she opened for him at a time when it was unusual for a woman to do so. Her career includes accomplishments in music, film and radio.  In music, they range from her instantly recognizable charted hit songs to her notable duets recorded with George Jones, Willie Nelson, Bobby Bare, Glen Campbell, Eddie Rabbit, David Allen Coe and many others. Her film debut was in the motion picture Take This Job And Shove It, and her acting has also included live stage and theater performances. Until recently, Lacy J Dalton also hosted a weekly radio show called Mustang Matters.  Podcasts of past shows are available to listeners on the internet at www.americamatters.us Following a successful career in country music, Lacy decided to draw on all her musical experiences including country, rock and folk, and cross over into the Americana genre.  This blend of musical styles allows her to express herself in a way that demonstrates all the facets of who she is as a singer/songwriter.  She became an independent artist and formed her own label called Song Dog Records.  Under this label, she has released three albums to date.  The first was Wild Horse Crossing in 1999, followed by the Last Wild Place Anthology which went #1 on the World Independent Chart, and a year later went #1 on the American Western Music Chart. Then Allison Eastwood, Clint Eastwood's daughter, used the hit song Slip Away from the Anthology CD on the sound track of her independent film, Don't Tell. In 2010 Lacy also released a tribute to Hank Williams Sr. entitled Here's To Hank. Today, Lacy continues to record new music and perform live shows whenever possible.  She tours mainly west of the Mississippi and loves small boutique venues and old theaters with great sound quality and warm, receptive audiences she can really connect with.  She recently recorded some electrifying new music for an EP that was released in January 2019.  When hearing the signature song Scarecrow, her good friend Reverend Barbara Ann Fletcher remarked “that song makes you a whole new you, and it makes me a whole new me.”  And that's exactly the response Lacy was hoping for. In addition to her musical career, Lacy has been involved in various service projects through several charitable organizations – namely, the Let ‘em Run Foundation, William James Associates Arts in Corrections, and Rotary International.  In 1999, Lacy co-founded the Let ‘em Run Foundation which received its 501(c)3 designation from the IRS in 2004.  The Let 'em Run Foundation is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing America's wild horses and burros who have no voice.  Let ‘em Run's mission is to serve as an educational, fund-raising and public relations entity, through its own efforts and in assisting similar non-profit organizations, to promote the appropriate and compassionate management of the wild horse, estray horse, and mustang population of the U.S. and other species of endangered or mistreated animals.  From 2015 through November 2018, Lacy and her partner, Dale Poune, worked with the William James Arts in Corrections program at High Desert State Prison in Susanville, California.  Their work there has been focused on teaching basic song writing skills and techniques, music theory and guitar playing to level 4 inmates.  Through their classes, a select group of inmates got the opportunity to learn the basic principles of guitar playing and song writing which they then used to develop songs and lyrics, both individually and as a group.  The class culminated with the inmates recording those musical compositions and giving a live performance to an audience of prison and non-prison personnel.  In addition, several inmates were able to go on to teach basic guitar to other inmates in the classic “each one teach one” teaching tradition. Finally, Lacy is an honorary member of the Rotary Club of Reno, and a Paul Harris Fellow.  Lacy has written two songs for Rotary, which she then recorded on a CD to be used as a fundraising opportunity for the Reno club.  Lacy also performed at the Rotary International Convention in New Orleans in 2011, and has been a key note speaker and headline performer at several club meetings and district conferences.

Send us a Text Message. The band Rehab originated in Warner Robins, GA, in the 1970s, with Danny Boone Alexander's musical upbringing playing a pivotal role. Influenced by the music his family played, including Johnny Paycheck's “Take This Job and Shove It,” and memorable experiences like listening to “Sky Rockets in Flight” at the Crazy 8 Race Track during the Bicentennial, Danny's passion for music was evident from a young age. Initially drawn to rock and southern rock, his musical tastes broadened with the emergence of the Beastie Boys, Run DMC, and NWA, cementing his love for hip hop. Danny's first rap performance was at 15 during a high school pep rally, igniting his pursuit of a music career. In his late teens, Danny began working professionally with his friend Denny “Steaknife” Campbell under the name "Prime Suspect." The duo's collaboration led to the formation of Rehab after meeting Jason Brooks. Despite Steaknife's legal troubles, Danny and Jason signed with Epic Records, releasing “Southern Discomfort” in 2000. The album featured contributions from Goodie Mob's Cee-Lo and Big Gipp, as well as Cody Chesnutt, selling over 140,000 copies and reaching the top 15 of the Modern Rock charts with “It Don't Matter.” They toured nationally, sharing stages with Linkin Park and the Kottonmouth Kings during the Vans Warped Tour.Following creative differences, Danny and Brooks parted ways, and Rehab was revitalized in 2005. The band recorded “Graffiti the World” with notable contributors like Bonecrusher, Phil Tan, and Billy Hume. The album was initially released independently until Danny signed with Universal Records in 2008. A collaboration with Hank Williams Jr. on “Sittin' at a Bar” garnered a CMT nomination for Wide-Open Country Video of the Year in 2009. [originally published on Patreon February 27, 2024] I begin with an extended meditation about Arbenz's position in 1951 and the state of the Guatemalan economy. This leads to a discussion of Decree 900, the agrarian reform bill which was passed in 1952. I discuss what it did and did not entail and compare it to Mexico's agrarian reform law as well as the US Alliance for Progress recommendations later. Despite this, United Fruit Company's leadership began to close ranks and draw up battle plans. That leads us to a natural question: who exactly owned UFC, anyway? I discuss UFC ownership particularly through the various boards of directors both before and after the Zemurray era. Unsurprisingly, it consists of many Boston Brahmins and, for lack of a better term, the Power Elite from the US, the UK, and Germany. At one point, the Swedes try, successfully, to buy in. I make a major tangent via UFC vice president Arthur Pollan and his feud with Honduran communist Manuel Cálix Herrera, whose story I also share. Then, discussing Zemurray's new guard, I bring up Hillyer Vaughn Rolston and the curious case of the Rolston Letter. The Rolston Letter is like a mini-Dreyfus Affair, which occurred shortly before la gran huelga de 1954, the great strike of 1954 in Honduras. I analyze various analyses of the Rolston letter which allows us to discuss the Honduran coup of 2009. This, in turn, allows us to discuss the less-known ZEDES, or economic development zones, which are attempting to break up and sell off Honduran sovereignty piece by piece, as in the case of Próspera in Roatán, Honduras. Finally, I discuss the occulted nature of family trusts and how the blood-soaked stolen wealth of Central America exists in perpetuity in New England sending many a failson and faildaughter to clown colleges or academic sinecures for perpetuity. note: I wrote the baleada thread after I wrote this episode, and it weaves through much of this history - https://twitter.com/JimmyFalunGong/status/1755993585890054451 Songs: Wealth Won't Save Your Soul by Hank Williams Jr. El Machangay, a song from the Great Strike of 1954 Verde by Manzanita

John Madden (“Boom!”) and Pat Summerall (“Nothing doing!”) on Sundays. Hank Williams Jr. on Monday nights. A sport not yet dulled by the suits on Park Avenue. Favre and Aikman and Young and Kelly and Elway and Marino. Football peaked in the 90s. But it wasn't without its issues… especially at the end of the decade. One year after Jerry Rice clearly fumbled in the NFC wild card, Bert Emanuel clearly caught it in the NFC Championship Game. And that's with the implementation of instant replay in-between. A moment like this can change the trajectory of careers. So, yes, Shaun King recalls that night in St. Louis quite vividly. This week, I caught up with King to relive that game, those Bucs teams and go deep on quarterbacks today. King watches the game closely, and always offers sharp, unapologetic analysis. Audio and video is above. You can also access this conversation everywhere you pod, including Apple, Spotify and YouTube. I'll post the written transcript of this chat with King this weekend as well. Just landed in Charlotte for this year's APSE convention.Discussed on the pod… * The 1999 NFC title. To this day, Shaun King is convinced that Tampa Bay was better than the St. Louis Rams. They lost that night, 11-6. But as you may recall, the final Bucs drive was riddled with controversy. * What-if's. King has many from his time as the Buccaneers' starting quarterback through the 1999 and 2000 seasons. That Rams game was full of ‘em, and one loss at Lambeau Field in the 2000 finale — off a missed 40-yard FG — proved to be particularly damaging.* NIL Madness. King was an assistant coach at South Florida from 2016- ‘19, and his finger on the pulse of this modern college landscape. On this podcast, he solves everything NIL. * King played with five Hall of Famers in Tampa, and shares a story of Warren Sapp's freak athleticism.* The quarterback market today. Numbers continue to skyrocket. King's on-board with the position having its own salary cap. * How do teams screw up at the top of the draft so often? King was never a fan of Trey Lance and Zach Wilson. He doesn't see Drake Maye doing much any time soon, either.* Michael Penix Jr. Back at USF, King recruited Penix. He was convinced back then that the quarterback would be a star. He sees this situation playing out beautifully for the Atlanta Falcons. Haven't chatted with anyone this bullish on Penix before. * Aaron Rodgers, he says, is the most selfish and self-centered quarterback of this generation. King's mind is blown that the quarterback had the audacity to blow off New York Jets minicamp. He explains. * What it's like being confused with another “Shaun King.”Go Long is your home for longform in pro football.A few similar past Q&A's… This is a public episode. In Lee's own words: I was born and raised in Concord, NC.  Just Northeast of Charlottle, it was a town of 25,000 back then.  As long as I can remember, music was around.  Whether it be the turntables or 8 tracks; where my older brothers played rock and roll of the 60s & 70s, Dad listened to older country artists or Mom's Pontiac Bonneville, which seemed to always have the hits playing through it's car stereo from either 61AM Big Ways, 95FM WROQ or 1100 WBT-AM…Music was always a comforting companion.       Not coming from a particularly musical family other than them playing the radio, the drum bug came from the next door neighbor playing and then taking it from there.  I was playing with records by 8-9 years old; began school band in 7th grade with the natural progression through high school playing in marching, jazz and symphonic bands throughout.       Since music was not viewed in my family as something you pursued as a career, I studied English Literature & Writing at Pfeiffer University until my senior year in 1990-91 when long time friend and a musical mentor, Rick Lee, called and said, "I'm forming a new band and you're the drummer."  This was the beginnings of my music career and the 2019 Carolina Beach Music Hall Of Fame band, Too Much Sylvia.       After leaving TMS in 1994, I played with a few different bands out of Charlotte and all around the East Coast through 1996.  In September 1996, a weeklong trip to Nashville, TN put the hook in and I moved to Music City on January 11, 1997.  Fortunately, I got club and road work pretty quickly while learning constantly along the way.  The idea was to make a living while seeing the world and that plan came to fruition over the years backing artists like Gary Allan, Mark Chesnutt, Heidi Newfield, Kelly Pickler, Loverboy, Kendell Marvel and, now, Hank Williams Jr.  Also, to be able to play and share time with some of the finest musicians & people along the way has just been magic. It's a ride I can't get off of...Nor do I want to.      Along with time on the road with Hank Jr., I offer drum/percussion tracks to any clients out of the "Boom Boom Drum Room", do club/showcase/session work around town and spend time caring for my family.  It's never boring and music is STILL a comforting companion.     Hope to see y'all at a show sometime!!   Some Things That Came Up:    -2:00 Moved to Nashville Jan 11, 1997 along with Jim Riley and Pat McDonald  -3:40 Followed the band Sugar Creek, who played on “Star Search” -4:10 Joining the melodic rock band “Too Much Sylvia” right before Nirvana exploded -6:15 Carolina beach music  -7:00 Checked out Nashville in August of 1996.
