Ok. So we finally made it to the end of Maximum Clonage. So how does everything tie together? What's the story? Why does this exist?
Corinne details the first half of Spider-Man's Maximum Clonage, It gets weird.
500 episodes! Can you believe it? What incredibly special way will we choose to commemorate this event??? By, well, just having a regular episode discussing Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse with our good friend Eric Sipple. At one point this past summer, we weren't sure another episode was ever going to happen, so this seems like a fitting celebration. The boys rave about Across the Spider-Verse's layered meanings, innovative animation, strong emotion, and how much more fun and exciting the movie is than the comics are these days. Derek dives into Spider-Man: The Lost Years to see just what Ben Reilly has been up to since he left New York. The audio on the last few episodes has been a little wonky. Sorry about that. We are working on some technical difficulties.
Peter is put on trial.... I guess? Strap in, because this one is weird.
We finish out the Crossfire story arc with Spider-Man maybe learning a lesson and Judas Traveller being weird.
Derek and Corinne play a drinking game.
To celebrate our 3rd Anniversary, we're releasing this special Bonus Episode from our Patreon! In one of our earliest bonus shows, Rob and Will explore the highly controversial Spider–Man Clone Saga from the 1990s! It's a story that introduced the world to the Scarlet Spider - the identical clone of Spider-Man! It's the story that tried to retire Peter Parker and replace him with Ben Reilly! It's the story that killed off Aunt May! It's also a story that encapsulates everything that was wrong with Marvel Comics in the Nineties and very nearly ruined Spider-Man for all time! A crazy story both on the page and behind the scenes! Corinne finishes The Mark of Kaine. Everyone still wonders what the point of this actually was.
Corinne takes the reigns to fill Derek in on the events of The Mark of Kaine, where we get our first real look at P-3P0 and whatever his deal is.
Derek and Corinne learn about the fallout of Peter's recent arrest while Ben and Mary Jane finally sit down and talk.
Corinne catches Derek up on a surprisingly touching and "amazing" issue of Spider-Man... the 400th!
Corinne runs through the events of Players and Pawns (sans Amazing Spider-Man #400) and we learn a little of what Peter Parker is going through.
Derek and Corinne try to piece together what is going on with Spider-Man. I guess that Jackal is back? Also there's a little Jackal? Also there's a lot of nudity. This comic is weird.
Corinne goes over the Funeral for an Octopus and tries to understand why it exists.
Corinne and Derek take a look at the Web of Death storyline from Spider-Man's Clone Saga!
Corinne details the ins and outs of Web of Life- where we see Ben Reilly, the Scarlet Spider, confront Grim Hunter and Kaine!
Derek fills Corinne in on what Peter has been doing while meeting with The Vulture, The Owl, Daredevil, Puma, and his existential dread.

What's a key difference between Spider-Man and Batman? What makes Spider-Man so relatable? How did My Gums Are Bleeding get started? What video game were the early webcomics based on? MAN (1963) #402-406 and SUPER SPECIAL, SPIDER-MAN (1990) #59-63 and SUPER SPECIAL, SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN (1976) #225-229 and SUPER SPECIAL, WEB OF SPIDER-MAN (1985) #126-129 and SUPER SPECIAL, VENOM SUPER SPECIAL, NEW WARRIORS (1990) #61-66, SPIDER-MAN: THE JACKAL FILES, SPIDER-MAN: MAXIMUM CLONAGE ALPHA and OMEGA, SPIDER-MAN UNLIMITED (1993) #10, SPIDER-MAN TEAM-UP #1, SPIDER-MAN: THE LOST YEARS #1-3, and SPIDER-MAN: THE PARKER YEARS.

On this extra special episode of The Greatest Pod, we interview one of our own, the contrarian curmudgeon, long-time TV producer, ¼ of The Reboot It Crew, ⅓ of The Greatest Pod, the great Producer Bill. He talks about his gateway into nerd culture, the thing that made him a comic book fan to this day and set him on the path to lifelong fandom….The Spider-man Clone Saga. I know, I know but when you hear us talk about it you'll see that the much-maligned Spider Clone story did exactly what it was supposed to do which is sell comics and get new fans to come to Marvel. This podcast shows that both of those missions were accomplished in spades. It was the longest crossover in comics history so somebody was reading it, and Bill was one of those kids. Friend of the show Adam Chapman swings through for episode 150 to tackle the second half of our epic Spider-Man Clone Saga breakdown.
That sound you just heard was that of a bubble bursting! What goes up, must come down... even in the world of comics. Much of this "coming down" just happened to occur in the year 1995. Our time-trapped twosome deliver another heaping dollop of nostalgia when they chat about things like the O.J. Simpson murder case, Sony PlayStaton, WCW Monday Nitro... and even some comic books! Comic events discussed include X-Men: The Age of Apocalypse, The Death of Aunt May, DC vs. Marvel (or Marvel vs. DC if you prefer), Marvel's attempt to self-distribute their books... which led to our current Diamond monopoly... and the most devastating thing to happen that year, Chris walking away from comics for awhile. It's a sobering tale of a boy and his lunch money... Throughout this re-upload, Chris (@acecomics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) mention an episode of Cosmic Treadmill they were researching during this time. The episode in question is #24 (January 15, 2017) where they discuss the Spider-Man Clone Saga. It is available in the archives. Share your own stories from 1995 with us... unless you weren't born yet, that'll just make us feel really bad about ourselves... we'll probably begin questioning our life decisions as well... Welcome to the Comic Shenanigans Podcast! For the forty-fourth episode, join Adam Chapman (comic reviewer for Comics & Gaming Magazine (cgmagazine.ca), cXPulp.com) and his guests Nathan Struk and Paul Skorez as they sit down to discuss the recent and controversial Spider-Man storyline "Dying Wish." Spoilers abound, as we discuss Amazing Spider-Man #698-700, as well as Avenging Spider-Man #15.1, in excruciating detail. There's also some free-form discussion, as we discuss the infamous Spider-Man Clone Saga, the movement of comics and other mediums to the digital marketplace, and Adam and Paul disagree about the future numbering of Amazing Spider-Man upon its eventual return to comic book shelves (likely in time for either the second Amazing Spider-Man movie, or for issue #800). This episode is a long one, but a goodie. It'll help if you have the issues that we discuss on-hand, as we go through the issues in detail. This episode was recorded Wednesday January 2nd 2013, a week before the release of Superior Spider-Man #1. Comic Shenanigans is now on Facebook! Got questions or feedback for Comic Shenanigans?
