Stephanie Betters was a practicing nurse in heart surgery operating rooms and an active real estate investor when her frustration with disparate real estate CRM and marketing solutions hit a boiling point. Salesforce and a development partner proposed a project so expensive that Stephanie hung up and decided to build the solution herself. She learned to code and build a useful real estate CRM on Salesforce in three months. Her business thrived with her comprehensive no software. Other real estate investors heard about her software and encouraged her to launch the company in 2019 and start selling the software, now called Left Main REI. Word spread in the industry; hundreds of real estate investors signed up in the first year, transforming their businesses. Left Main REI now has hundreds of customers, 20 employees, and nearly $3 million in annual recurring revenues. The company has been bootstrapped and profitable from the first day. Stephanie has a big vision for the company and loves her founder/CEO role; she is no longer a practicing nurse as of 2022.

In today's episode of How We Got There, I talk with Stephanie Betters who is the Founder and CEO of Left Main REI. Left Main REI is an OEM and (now) ISVforce partner of Salesforce focused on building for companies in the real estate vertical. As a fellow SUNY alum, it was great to hear Stephanie's story of how she stumbled her way into the Salesforce ecosystem. As many founder stories go, she created Left Main REI after experiencing challenges (and an expensive SOW) in building out Salesforce to fit her business needs. After realizing what she built had a market need in the Salesforce ecosystem, she started working with the Salesforce partnerships team and successfully launched after security review was completed. She shares why she decided to enter both an ISVforce and OEM agreement with Salesforce and where she's found success in co-selling with Salesforce AEs with a clear way to help them. Now they have over a hundred customers, when they started Stephanie relied heavily on her network and thought leadership before uncovering more advanced motions like Salesforce AMP programs and co-selling. In my opinion, Left Main REI's focus and having a niche helped them with clarity of the strategy in co-selling with Salesforce AEs. They were able to share SIC codes where they were best when they met more and more AEs. Stephanie's ability to empathize with the Salesforce AE gave her conviction to pursue the ISVforce agreement after initially just being OEM so they had a harmonious gtm approach with Salesforce. Stephanie and her husband were both going to college for medicine. Stephanie was a nurse practitioner leading up to her real estate and entrepreneur endeavors.Once they both graduated from college in upstate New York, they purchased a fixer-upper in which they lived then flipped it.Luckily they had sold the property 2 weeks before the market crashed in their market back in 2009.Her husband Zack, knew they were on to something after making $60k from their first flip.The thing I respect so much about Stephanie was the fact that she had to conquer her fear and limiting beliefsPlus you wouldn't believe the incredibly simple resource they purchased to get them started in real estate. Real estate CRMs (customer relationship management) aren't the most exciting things to talk about…that is until you look at the results they help build. Before building her own CRM, Stephanie Betters was struggling to grow her real estate portfolio. She had an original goal to acquire fifteen units before her children went to college, but realized that her taxing job as a nurse wouldn't allow it. For her to hit fifteen units, she would have to scale, automate, and delegate tasks.She did just that and overshot her goal by a significant margin. As of now, Stephanie has 1,000 rental units and is wholesaling and building another 200 deals per year. CONGRATULATIONS TO ZACHARY and STEPHANIE on their TENTH ANNIVERSARY! This sweet couple met in 2005 in college while working as EMT's. It was love at first sight! Got married and in to flipping distressed homes in 2007. They now live in Charlotte, North Carolina with their three children and a massive Real Estate Empire. Their first deal was their first home together! While Stephanie was dreaming sweet dreams of a perfect house and babies... Zachary ends up convincing her to buy the perfect FORECLOSED HOME!!! Perfectly covered in mold, everything leaking... COMPLETE DISASTER! Zachary carries Stephanie over the threshold of this money maker and there begins their journey. They rode out the market crash on the proceeds of that first flip, went to grad school and started a family. Stephanie is a Nurse Practitioner and Zachary is a Physicians Assistant. These two have DAY JOBS that HELP HUMANITY... as well as a booming REAL ESTATE BUSINESS! In 2014 the Betters made the decision to jump back in.
