This week's look at politics from a left/indy perspective has a definite outsiders theme. The Scottish Advisory Group on Economic Recovery published its report with an official fanfare yesterday. But, although it uses all the buzzwords like resilience and fairness, is it yet another piece of tinkering about the edges?  Compare this to the lack of coverage and analysis of Common Weal's Resilient Scotland research. The Langholm Initiative have launched their crowdfunding campaign as they attempt the largest community buyout in the south of Scotland, hoping to bring 10,500 acres of old grouse moor into community ownership. To be successful they need to raise over £5million by October. Lesley is,understandably, outraged. The Private Sector Resilience( that buzz word again) Group has been meeting at Holyrood. All the usual Scottish government "stakeholders" are involved. However one very significant set of voices is not represented. I think you might guess who. Pete Wishart has been the loudest in oppostion to the development of a Plan B for independence, saying now is not the time. I take a keek at his arguments for sticking to Plan A. There's been a quiet upsurge in trade union membership over the past couple of years which has moved into overdrive during the Covid crisis. Who are the new trade unionists, and why are they joining? All this plus Trump's Tulsa travails ,masked shopping, Stanley Johnson's passport pauchle, and just a wee mention of Dundee United.

The rate of coronavirus infections is now on the rise in about half of all American states; and in some areas the COVID cases and hospitalizations are reaching critical levels. And yet........could the virus be weakening? There is thinking among some researchers that the COVID cases we've been seeing are not as intense as they were back in February and March; they believe there's even a chance the virus will run its course and fade away before a vaccine is developed. Then...have your risks of being infected with coronavirus been overblown? Other research out today concludes concluded that  your chances of getting sick with COVID, especially if you follow basic social distancing guidelines, are remote.......so we'll look at that, as well. Sure the economy might be depressed, but there is one growth industry that's hiring like crazy: contact tracing.  We'll look at what it takes to be on the front lines trying to track down the origins of a COVID outbreak. It's a lot of hoping that people pick up their phones. President Trump hoped to jump start his reelection campaign with what he promised would be an epic rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma this weekend........it did not go according to plan. And then we'll go back to what was a very busy Friday evening - which looked a bit like President Nixon's infamous "Saturday night massacre"...until it didn't. And then. Sort of did. Scott speaks with Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding, a Harvard epidemiologist and health economist. Dr. Ding was the first American scientist to sound the alarm about coronavirus in a truly large way. It's not easy to achieve clarity in a crisis, even less so when the crisis is budding and hasn't yet become a full-on catastrophe.  But that's what Dr. Ding achieved. Now, he's here speak with us and blow the whistle on Trump's Tulsa rally as a potential super spreader event.  He even explained the differences between the massive Black Lives Matter protests across America and the Trump political event, and why it could be so much more dangerous for more than just those who attend, but their families and communities. You can follow Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding on Twitter @DrEricDing. Here's the transcript. Leslie begins the show with her 'Ripped from the Headlines' news segment. Here are the stories she covers during the segment: 1. AP: "Juneteenth: A day of joy and pain - and now national action" 2. CBS NEWS: "Louisville police detective will be fired over Breonna Taylor shooting" 3. AXIOS: "Trump warns protesters against coming to Tulsa rally" 4. USA TODAY: "Oklahoma coronavirus cases surge, hospitalizations rise ahead of Trump's Tulsa rally" Leslie is then joined by two 'Dreamers,' Maria Praeli and Maria Morales, who were directly impacted by yesterday's DACA Supreme Court decision. The high court ruled that the Trump administration improperly ended the "Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals" program, AKA DACA, in 2017. They discuss what yesterday's DACA Supreme Court victory means to them and their families, as well as President Trump saying that he'll renew his efforts to end DACA. They also talk about what others can do to help in the fight to protect Dreamers. Maria Praeli is Government Relations Manager for FWD.us, a bipartisan political organization that is working to fix the failed immigration and criminal justice systems that have locked too many out of the American dream for too long. Maria moved to the United States from Peru in 1999 when she was five years old to seek medical treatment for her sister, whose leg was amputated in a car accident. Maria's work at FWD.us focuses on strengthening outreach efforts to elected officials, providing education and resources on immigration policy to congressional offices, and working on special projects related to Dreamers and TPS holders. After moving from Peru, Maria attended public schools in Connecticut before earning an associate’s degree in liberal arts from Gateway Community College, and then a bachelor’s degree in political science from Quinnipiac University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Her Twitter handle is @MariaPraeli, and the handle for FWD.us is @FWDus. Maria Morales is a DACA recipient and Teacher at Denver Public Schools. At an early age, Maria knew she wanted to become a teacher. Now that her dream is a reality and the future of DACA is uncertain, Maria fears leaving the classroom and abandoning her students. She moved to the United States with her family when she was only 12 years old. Her family was seeking a better life filled with opportunities for her and her siblings. Maria grew up and attended college in Greenwood, South Carolina. Her DACA status prevented her from paying in-state tuition and teaching in South Carolina, but this did not deter her from continuing her education and pursuing her dream of becoming a teacher. After graduating college, Maria decided to join Teach For America and teach in Colorado. Maria loves the community she is serving, she has built strong relationships with families and students and for her home is here, where her students are.

Trump says he asked a lot of people about Juneteenth and he said "they had not heard the term... nobody had heard it."  The Washington Post says that a top state department official and lifelong republican quits in protest over Trump's handling of race and response to racial tension.  Officers that were charged in the death of an Atlanta man turn themselves in. The district attorney on the murder cases says "we're not seeking the death penalty." 24-year-veteran of the Atlanta Police Department says never seen such "low morale" after officers charged in man's death. The police veteran also says "We're in a dark grey area" with policies after officers charged in Rayshard Brook's, a Black man, death.  Bolton slams Trump and says, "I don't think he's fit for office. I don't think he has the competence to carry out the job." Trump calls Bolton a "sick puppy" as Trump tries to stop the publication of  Bolton's new tell-all book. A federal judge will hear arguments tomorrow as Trump tries to stop publication of Bolton's book. Bolton says that Trump has no discernible guiding principle "other than what's good for Donald Trump's reelection."  Venue for Trump's Tulsa rally asks campaign for a safety plan.

Trump's executive order was a waste of paper. Ne-Yo doesn't understand the word "sacrifice." Cop says African Americans are shot less than they probably should be. A gym starts an "I Can't Breathe," workout in honor of George Floyd. Ohio senator fired for "colored" remarks. Candace Owens dares Dave Chappelle to say it to her face. Loni Love was once arrested for trespassing. You can't go to Trump's Tulsa rally unless you promise not to sue him. A Black man was shot dead for pointing a gun even though he was handcuffed. A man gets fired for tearing down BLM signs. We clearly drive while distracted. A woman's eyebrow game got her charged with felonies. Party City fires employee for "hating Black people, bro." Officer who shot Black man outside of Wendy's charged with felony murder and could face the death penalty if convicted. The attorney for the second officer says officer has not agreed to testify as a state witness. This contradicts the district attorney who said he would be a state witness. Meanwhile, protests grow as officers are charged in the death of Rayshard Brooks. Prosecutors say that officers did not render aid after Rayshard Brooks was shot and one can be seen in a video kicking the Black man, after he had been shot. District attorney says that the officer charged in the killing of Rayshard Brooks declared "I got him" after firing shots.  Trump administration is ignoring reality of the coronavirus pandemic. 21 states are seeing an increase in coronavirus cases amid more reopenings and 10 states are seeing their highest average of daily new coronavirus cases. The Tulsa Health Department director is recommending that Trump's rally be "postponed until it's safer" as coronavirus cases rise. No social distancing is required and wearing masks are optional at Trump's Tulsa rally, even as Tulsa sets daily record for coronavirus cases.  Fauci speaks on whether he would attend Trump's Tulsa rally, "of course not."
