As we kick off the new year, the legal landscape is heating up with a significant development involving none other than Donald Trump. Just a few days ago, on January 3, 2025, a critical decision was made in the hush money trial of the former President.New York Judge Juan Merchan upheld Trump's conviction, a move that has sparked intense debate and scrutiny. However, in a surprising twist, Judge Merchan mandated that the sentence, scheduled for January 10, will not include jail time. This decision has left many wondering about the implications and what it means for Trump's future[2][4].The trial has been a long and arduous process, with Trump initially requesting an adjournment of sentencing until after the 2024 Presidential election. The prosecution did not oppose this request, leading to a delay that has now come to an end[4].Legal analysts and political pundits are dissecting the decision, trying to understand the legal and political ramifications. CNN's Kara Scannell provided a detailed recap of Judge Merchan's decision, while CNN's Paula Reid delved deeper into the judge's filing. Discussions with experts like former federal prosecutor Alyse Adamson and CNN legal analyst Jennifer Rodgers have shed light on the intricacies of the decision and its potential impact on Trump[2].The political side of the story is also being closely examined. Former Democratic Rep. Mondaire Jones and CNN political analyst Scott Jennings have weighed in on the implications for Trump's political career and the broader political landscape[2].As we move forward, all eyes are on January 10, when Trump is set to be sentenced. The world will be watching to see how this chapter unfolds and what it means for the future of Donald Trump. With the legal and political stakes high, this is a story that will continue to captivate and intrigue us in the days to come.

Plus, USA Today explains why your Election Day outfit matters, the Wall Street Journal speaks with the teachers keeping this election out of their curriculum, the L.A. Times visits the county that’s predicted every presidential winner since 1980, and NBC's state-by-state voting guide. Today’s episode was hosted by Shumita Basu.
As the Trump hush money trial heads toward closing arguments, CNN's chief legal correspondent Paula Reid tells host Brian Stelter about the biggest surprises thus far and previews the range of possible outcomes from the jury. Reid also shares an inside look at day-to-day television news coverage of the trial.
What goes into human decision-making? If you listened to the previous episode of the show with Dr Melina Moleskis on decision-making, then you'll know what's coming next. If you didn't, then don't worry; you can listen to that after this.My guest on this episode is Ben Cattaneo, a friend of the show and the founder of The Decision-Making Studio, a startup that helps clients to make better decisions. In our discussion, we pick up some of the themes I discussed with Melina and explore others. Since Ben's background is in risk — he hosts the All Things Risk podcast — we explore how, in an uncertain world, making good decisions is critical. On the episode, you'll hear about: Ben's experiences of founding The Decision Making Studio;the importance of integrating human elements into decision-making processes;the FOCUS framework for improving decision quality;the need to blend art and science in making decisions;the flaws in classic MBA case studies for teaching decision-making and the benefits of looking at less-known examples for deeper insights;the need to shift towards embracing uncertainty as a natural part of decision-making;the complexity and importance of decision-making in both personal and organizational contexts.and much more.Resources Part One of this series with Dr Melina Moleskis on Decision-Making: https://www.humanriskpodcast.com/dr-melina-moleskis-on-decision-making-part-one/ Blockbuster Netflix story: https://finshots.in/archive/the-incredible-netflix-story-you-didnt-know/ Comedian Des Bishop on Mindfulness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yU_wLC0NlgU James Clear on Tattoos, Haircuts & Hats: https://jamesclear.com/3-2-1/february-1-2024 You can find Ben via his Decision Making Studio website: https://thedecisionmaking.studio/ Ben's All Things Risk podcast is available on all platforms and here: https://www.allthingsrisk.co.uk/ The episode of his show featuring Paula Reid who cycled across Ukraine: https://www.allthingsrisk.co.uk/2024/04/02/ep-215-paula-reid-on-cycling-across-ukraine/ The Decision-Making Studio https://thedecisionmaking.studio/ Ben's Decision Reaction Videos are available via his account on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ben-cattaneo/ The specific episodes he refers to on the show: Mark Gilmour's race in Morocco: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/ben-cattaneo_decisionmaking-decisionreactions-activity-7183537246388518912-jBQR?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop The movie ‘Gung Ho': https://www.linkedin.com/posts/ben-cattaneo_decisionmaking-activity-7155084173228077056-iX2H?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop Relevant episodes of the Human Risk podcast: Ben on ‘All Things Risk': https://www.humanriskpodcast.com/all-things-human-risk-crosscast/Alison Taylor on 'Doing The Right Thing': https://www.humanriskpodcast.com/alison-taylor-on-doing-the-right-thing/Professor Bent Flyvbjerg on 'How Big Things Get Done': https://www.humanriskpodcast.com/professor-bent-flyvbjerg-on-how-big-things-get-done/
Today's show begins at the Supreme Court where the justices appear deeply divided over one of the biggest abortion cases since Roe vs. Wade was overturned. Today, I welcome back Paula Reid to the show. Paula is known as the “Adventure Psychologist” because of her expertise in adventure psychology, which is all about surviving, coping, and thriving during challenge and uncertainty. So obviously, there are huge parallels to decision-making under or uncertainty and to many of my show's themes. And we talk a little bit about that at the outset of this episode. However, beyond that, this one is focused particularly around Paula's adventure cycling across the Ukraine from Odesa in the south to Chornobyl in the north, about 400 miles or 600 kilometres. She did so to raise money for Siobhan's Trust, now called “HopeFull” a charity involved in delivering humanitarian aid to Ukrainians. This one covers an awful lot of ground, from adventure psychology to the origins of Paula's work in Ukraine, to the insight on trauma and mental health. Paula is actually in Ukraine as this goes out. “She's six.” These are the words we hear in a clip of The Figurehead Biden when he asks a little girl if she is 17. Normally you could say, “oh, goofy old Joe,” except this is a guy who grabs little girls' breasts on film. He is probably a pedophile and is the perfect man for the times we are in. He is not just owned by the flesh in that sense; he is owned mentally because he is so decrepit. What do we do? We are going to talk about Galatians 5:17, and that will serve as the through-line in this discussion. We also talk about the National Guard that was called up and then canceled on January 6th and CNN announcing that there is a huge difference between Trump and Biden in the document scandal, and Tony Blair's solution to the migrant crisis. What does God's Word say? Today we recognized that no one is more qualified to embarrass Joe Biden, than Joe Biden. First, I want to suggest that the Olympic Committee consider adding a brand new event. The event I'd like to see would be called, Mental Gymnastics. Because, today's Legacy/mainstream media is twisting themselves (and their audiences) into pretzel shaped knots in a desperate attempt to defend Joe Biden while still throwing hate all over Donald Trump. To illustrate, I have a compilation of several talking heads and hosts from MSNBC and CNN who are knowingly lying about the facts as it relates to both Donald Trump and Joe Biden regarding the handling of classified material. In fact, back in 2018, even Andrea Mitchell herself interviewed the former Vice President in the very office where classified documents had been stashed. In that interview, Biden stated, “I don't have access to classified information anymore.” The lies flow off his lips like honey. But it goes to show, the best person to embarrass Joe Biden is none other than Joe Biden. To prove this, we next move to the exchange between Fox News's Peter Doocy who asked the president to explain just what he was thinking in keeping classified documents next to his Corvette. Surprisingly, Biden not only admitted that was the case, he justified it saying the garage was locked. Well, Donald Trump had his documents locked, so what's the difference? On top of that, just as the exchange was free-flowing, it's almost like someone in an ear piece reminds him to stop talking and just read the prepared statement. Ironically, the prepared statement mentions two locations we have yet to formally hear about regarding classified documents. Joe Biden mentions his personal library and a filing cabinet. This might explain why the White House has yet to say all of the documents have been found. They seem to be waiting for another shoe to drop. Of course, part of the reason the White House is responding so poorly is they have Karine Jean-Pierre as the Press Secretary. She could not screw this up any more if she had been told to do that very thing. Newly elected Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy held his first impromptu presser yesterday and it seems doing battle with the 20 hold-outs did him some good. He seems to have been reminded of what it means to be a Constitutionalist. He did a fantastic job both schooling and chiding the press over how the Biden story has been evolving versus how it was handled with Donald Trump. I can honestly say, he impressed me. Plus, in a weird turn of events, CNN”s Senior Legal Affairs Correspondent, Paula Reid, surprised me by talking about the Biden classified documents situation with a degree of truth and sincerity. I was actually shocked to hear a random act of journalism on Don Lemon's show. To end on a lighter note, I bring you two back-to-back sound bites. The first is Andrea Mitchell trying to scold another MSNBC reporter for his use of the term, “pro-life.” You have to hear for yourself how she beclowns herself on her own show. Next, it's been awhile, but I have two quotes in a row from our Vice President. So, it's time for another installment of Deep Thoughts with VP Kamala Harris. In the first, she explains where the Caribbean Islands are located and in the second, she shares her joy for electric school buses. We better laugh folks, because our only alternative is to cry. The Race to Alaska is one of the most grueling at-sea races, taking participants from Port Townsend, Washington, to Ketchikan, Alaska, as they navigate complicated currents, narrow rocky channels, and inclement weather. The premise is simple: travel more than 1,200 kilometers with no motors, no support, and a USD $10,000 award waiting for the winner. Racers prepare sailboats, kayaks, paddleboards, or any manner of non-motorized vessels for a chance to put their paddle to the mettle in the ultimate marine race. But what drives people to take on such extreme adventures? In this special episode Hakai Magazine editor Jude Isabella and guests discuss what compels people to undertake extraordinary pursuits at sea. Guests are adventure psychologist Paula Reid, who has spent 10 months racing a yacht around the world and skied to the South Pole; Karl Krüger, the first person to complete the Race to Alaska by paddleboard; and Douglas Smith, who is entering the Race to Alaska for the first time this year. Gun rights and gun control are not a new topic to this channel, In fact I have assembled a playlist of past videos touching on this subjects quite a few times from quite a few different perspectives (See List Below) Today's video will be the second in a two part series looking at the best arguments for current gun control proposals,. Today's episode if focused on exposing and explaining the myths that constituted Joe Biden's response to the recent Uvalde shooting In it he makes false claims about: So-called "assault weapons" The assault weapon ban The evil puppy hating, father raping, baby killers of "the gun lobby" The frequency of school shootings & mass shootings in comparison to other countries The multi-contextual, deceptive, non-argument that any restriction on natural rights and civil liberties are justified if it saves even one life Every one of those claims can be, and, subsequently will be objectively disproven by the end of this episode. There are so many ways I could describe this interesting woman - Adventurer and Adventure Psychologist? She has travelled widely, lived with indigenous tribes, sailed around the world and skied to the South Pole. And all of that in less than half a century. Oh and on top of that she has a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology and 30 years working with leaders. Because Paula Reid is a natural leader. She's inspirational, she's determined, she's incredibly resilient and resourceful and most of all for me at least she's incredibly passionate about living life to the fullest. Not many people would turn down the Medivac option in the first week of skiing to the South Pole, when the option of staying means you would have to manage the pain and keep the infection under control. Most people would take the easy way out and fly own. Not Paula! And when you listen to how that changed and empowered her, it may cause you to reflect as to how you may approach life slightly differently in the future. I loved this. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Contact Paula via her website My passion is Inspiring Women to Inspire Women. Recent events – at the time of writing, Russia's unlawful invasion of Ukraine – reinforce that uncertainty is an inherent human condition. Our guest on this episode offers an approach to this reality that is useful. Paula Reid is an adventurer, and more precisely, an adventure psychologist. She has completed a number of epic things like skiing to the South Pole, sailing around the world, and paddling the Mekong river. While we have had many adventurers on the show, I invited Paula to appear because she is a trailblazer in the field of adventure psychology – which is all about using applied psychology and experience to facilitate enduring performance and well-being. She helps individuals and organisations survive, cope and thrive during change. Given the state of the world, that is something all of us can use. Paula Reid is a courageous adventurer who is forging a career in applying Positive Psychology to help other adventurers and leaders optimize their performance. As someone who has experienced extremes of skiing to the South Pole with a debilitating leg injury, paddling the Mekong in a dugout canoe, and yacht racing around the world for ten months, she is no stranger to adversity and how it can impact outcomes. In this episode Paula shares many exciting stories of her global exploits, including getting arrested in Cambodia and narrowly escaping war in West Papua. She takes us inside the mind of the adventurer to better understand how adversities can plague the psyche and quickly turn a quest for triumph into a battle to merely survive. And we also talk about the post-adventure blues that can haunt people when they return to the world of routine. The believed limits of human capacity is often challenged and expanded in times of our greatest duress. With a Master's in Applied Positive Psychology, Paula has dubbed the term Adventure Psychology to help people thrive during change, challenge, and uncertainty. Through exploring the extremes, Paula has learned so much about herself and her own capacity and is able to translate that into assisting leaders of all sorts, from athletes to CEOs, in their own expansion. The Trump administration and the coronavirus task force. Businesses and states ask for more relief. The news roundtable is here. Paula Reid, Rick Berke and Amara Omeokwe join Jane Clayson.
Summary: Today's latest news headlines: the coronavirus task task force is back on! Plus Trump doesn't know where he's going, but he's a super genius, and more!Full transcript (edited for clarity):Hello and welcome to this Wednesday edition of Quick News Daily, where we give you the news. no fluff, no filler, just news made for the 21st century. My name is Brett Spangler and thank you for joining me here today for a couple of quick-hitting news stories. We’ll just get right into it…I think the biggest news is that Donald Trump has changed course completely just a couple days after saying that the coronavirus White House task force will be winding down. He signaled that he heard all the backlash about the possibility of the shutdown of the team. In a direct quote he was even like “I didn't know how popular they were until I announced that they were going to be shutting down and then everyone started to get angry”. So obviously it's just proof that he just does whatever he thinks will play best in the media. His plan for the day are he just goes wherever the wind will take him I guess. Originally he has announce that they may be shutting down for some reason (probably because if there’s still a task force people would be questioning why all these businesses are opening back up), but now he says they're going to continue and probably meet less. They're not even meeting everyday anymore and the briefings have been getting shorter. So it’ll still be there functionally, but who knows how much work they’ll actually be doing or if they're just going to be focusing on the economic side of things and trying to get the economy back while also coming up with the loosest restrictions possible for social distancing. We’ll have wait and see on that one. He was also making friends once again in the briefing that he did have. He started calling out members of the press for questioning him too tough for when he thought was unfair (or at least what he says is unfair but know is actually just a real question and not a softball) and surprise surprise: two of the three reporters he named were women. Again, Paula Reid who you'll remember from the when she kept questioning why he didn't do anything in February, and it was that intense but great exchange that they had, she's from CBS. Also, Weija Jiang was the second female reporter he targeted, and I apologize to her if she's listening and I butchered her name. Anyway, Donald Trump said they were “no Donna Reed”, and first of all, have any of you even heard of Donna Reed? I certainly hadn't. One reason that that might be is that she died in 1986. Over 34 years ago. For context, she died before Chernobyl even happened, so what's up with that reference to someone who has been dead so long? He also used to call Jeff sessions. I can't remember the exact cartoon character, but it was from like 60s or something? Mr. Magoo maybe? Where is the guy's head at? I would wager that it's like sometimes in dementia, your long-term memory stays intact pretty well, but your short-term doesn't. Maybe it’s something like that and he’s just taking what he remembers, but who knows? Paula Reid quoted a tweet about it and said “Fact check: true” and then Weija Jiang had another great response as well, so I'll try to find those on Twitter and retweet those. Why this matters is that the big reason that the Democrats won so big and had the Blue Wave in 2018 was they took over the suburbs, and more specifically Suburban women. So when you know that's who you need to win, and just enough of that group voted for you in the 2016 election, kind of a strange strategy to keep bashing women relentlessly every chance you get. But hey, he’s a misogynist. They can't help themselves.Another thing here From The Washington Post that makes me question his mental state is he was talking about how when he visited a mask facility a couple of days ago, he said if it said that you need to wear masks, he said something like oh yeah, I'll probably wear one (and obviously he didn't because he's got to be Mr. Tough Guy there) but he said this to reporters just before he was leaving “I think it's a mask facility, right? If it's a mask facility, I will yeah.” He doesn't even know where he's going. He's getting on the plane and he doesn't even know what he's doing; he's just along for the ride and someone else is planning all the stuff out. Maybe it’s Kushner? Stephen Miller? He is just not right though. This is also crazy from a website called Cover POTUS (it's a news and media website apparently), but it says that “President Trump has long said that he and his uncle, famous scientist John G Trump, … represent a rare breed of super-genius, benefiting from the same genes”, and it goes on to say “It is not widely known whether the president, in his widely condemned recent suggestion that disinfectant be injected into the body to kill the novel Coronavirus, was somehow vaguely channeling his uncle's theories.” It's unknown?! Of course he wasn't! You think he actually thinks about that except when you ask? Why are you even trying to give him a benefit of the doubt for thinking that through beforehand or having any sort of plot? I guarantee you he just heard something about disinfectant, started daydreaming in the middle of what they're talking about, and then came back in and then had to go to a briefing. I'm going to guess that's how it went down. So no, he did not think about his uncle's theories. Good Lord.I’m leaning heavily on the Washington Post here today, but they have a new poll out, and I think this explains why I haven't heard much from the protesters lately. It says that 56% of Americans would say they're comfortable making trips to grocery stores. 67% say they are uncomfortable shopping at a retail clothing store, and 78% would be uncomfortable eating at a sit-down restaurant. So this whole reopening thing, you know, they may put that label on it, but the people actually can decide when we’re open again. When we start going out again, that's when the economy is actually back. And it might be fast, but this poll seems to indicate otherwise.I think that's about it as far as news today. I mentioned Chernobyl a little earlier and I'm actually debating on starting that miniseries, and I was wanting have any of you seen it? Is it worth it? It sounds pretty good. I listened to the podcast about it with the creator/writer. I think I'll probably get int it eventually. Give me a shout out and let me know what you thought of it if you’ve seen it. Anyways, thank you so much for listening today. Please be sure to rate us 5-stars wherever you listen.
