The brutal murders of George Floyd ("I Can't Breathe)in the States and Tshegofatso Pule, in South Africa earlier this month was a testimony to the awful reality that, in our world, some lives matter more than others. In this episode, David and John reflect theologically on the Black Lives Matter (#BLM) movement and in particular its significance for South African today. A narrow gospel focussed only on individual salvation has little to say to the realities of racism and gender-based violence, David and John argue instead for a recovery of a robust doctrine of the Imago Dei (Image of God). Finally, they explore the role of the church in the fight against racism and gender-based violence? The earth trembles in the midst of global birth pangs. The world is being shaken. America is being shaken. The Church is being shaken. Don't just stay where you are! Allow God to shake you free of your current perception, and move you into Kingdom position. God is taking a stand for African Americans and people of color. If the Church won't arise to the occasion... well, He'll just find Himself a Cyrus. To see new JesusLandTV videos visit our YouTube channel here and subscribe. Heute Morgen musste ich kurz nach dem Aufstehen an das Video denken. Das Video, in dem gezeigt wurde, wie George Floyd ermordet wurde. Von einer Person, die die Menschen und das Leben beschützen sollte. In diesem Artikel widme ich mich dem Thema Rassismus und was die Antworten aus Sicht von Yoga sind. Dabei werde ich teils sehr persönlich und zeige dir, was das Ganze mit Selbstliebe zu tun hat. Lachende Grüße & Keep Shyneying!
We must also reject the illusory safety of silence. We must speak out, even though it may seem implicit in who we are. We must say out loud that every form and manifestation of racism is unacceptable. And for those who don't think that that's the business of an anti hunger organization, we must also say out loud, it's the business of all human beings. Share Our Strength Co-Founder and Chairman Billy Shore As people mobilize across the country to confront racism in all of its manifestations today, we are sharing a curated episode that revolves around our painful legacy of racism in America and how we can overcome it. Guests that include:MacArthur “Genius Grant” recipient Dr. Joe Marshall, Chef Tanya Holland, social justice champion Reverend Jim Wallis, thought leader and businessman Robert Lewis, Jr., Brandeis University’s Ira Jackson, and Grantmakers In Health (GIH) President and CEO Faith Mitchell These leaders speak powerfully and thoughtfully about our shameful past, our difficult present, and a more hopeful and just future. Check out the original episodes by following the links below. “I remember we were angry and my mom was like, ‘You win with love. If you're locked up or arrested, you can't do anything in life.’ … So I made a commitment in my life that I was going to be part of shifting this narrative of folks who are poorer and black and brown communities in a different way.” – Robert Lewis, Jr. (March 6, 2019) http://addpassionandstir.com/flipping-the-script-rewriting-the-story-of-urban-youth/ “I would accompany 37 yellow school buses along with the police commissioner every morning [in 1972] from Bayside up to a Dorchester Heights and South Boston High School, where those black kids would be greeted by an angry mob that was yelling the ‘n’ word at them and throwing bananas and occasionally bricks at the windows. That's how violent and ugly it was.” – Ira Jackson (December 12, 2018) http://addpassionandstir.com/leading-a-city-back-from-despair-the-community-leaders-who-rebuilt-boston/ “It's just, ‘you can't do it, you can't do it, you can't do it.’ And even when you show you can, the real believers are the ones of us who were actually doing it. So we're always fighting that… I always say being black in America is like you start in this hole and you're continually climbing out of this hole.” – Dr. Joe Marshall (October 18, 2016) http://addpassionandstir.com/gang-violence-prevention-and-cure/ “For me, what I notice about racism – what I find most painful - is when people have low expectations of you and they don't expect you to be intelligent or ambitious or resourceful. And that's hard. You know, that judgement is a big hurdle. What can you do about that?” – Chef Tanya Holland (October 18, 2016) http://addpassionandstir.com/gang-violence-prevention-and-cure/ “My questions took me to the city [Detroit] - a white kid going to black churches for the first time and taking jobs alongside young men just like me, but they were black and I was white. I realized that we were all born in Detroit but had been raised in different countries… My worldview, as they say, has been changed by being places I was never supposed to be.” – Reverend Jim Wallis (May 17, 2019) http://addpassionandstir.com/racial-injustice-the-soul-of-america-is-at-stake-part-1/ “There are many Americans who not only don't know about disparities, but in general think that we have the best medical care in the world because that's what we've been told. In fact, among developed countries, we're near the bottom… One of the reasons we're near the bottom is that we have big differences in things like mortality and morbidity once you get past the surface and look at the details of the American population.” – Faith Mitchell (May 16, 2018) http://addpassionandstir.com/bringing-the-love-equity-in-healthcare/
"I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you." Jesus' final prayer was a prayer for UNITY. Pastor Monte sits down for another conversation this week, the final week of the series "I Can't Breathe". How can the church be an example of the unity Jesus prayed for? We know what the Father wants, it's our responsibility now to do it. The best is yet to come! meadows.church

Trump's executive order was a waste of paper. Ne-Yo doesn't understand the word "sacrifice." Cop says African Americans are shot less than they probably should be. A gym starts an "I Can't Breathe," workout in honor of George Floyd. Ohio senator fired for "colored" remarks. Candace Owens dares Dave Chappelle to say it to her face. Loni Love was once arrested for trespassing. You can't go to Trump's Tulsa rally unless you promise not to sue him. A Black man was shot dead for pointing a gun even though he was handcuffed. A man gets fired for tearing down BLM signs. We clearly drive while distracted. A woman's eyebrow game got her charged with felonies. Party City fires employee for "hating Black people, bro." They're hanging men. Black and Latino men.

When George Floyd uttered his last words "I Can't Breathe," little did he know his death could be the turning point for change. This week I'm speaking with long-time friend and client, Brian Curry, about his experiences with racism growing up in Canada, throughout his travels, and how each one of us can make a difference.

Leslie begins the show with her 'Ripped from the Headlines' news segment. Here are the stories she covers during the segment: 1. AUDIO: One of George Floyd's Brothers, Philonise Floyd, Remembers His Brother at this week's Public Memorial Service 2. WASHINGTON POST: "In Georgia, primary day starts with long lines, problems with voting machines — a potential preview of November" Leslie is then joined by Michael Mendelsohn, a Retired Law Enforcement Officer from Charlotte County Sheriff's Office in Florida. Retired Officer Mendelsohn believes that former Minnesota Police Officer, Derek Chauvin, who is now charged with second-degree murder, was wrong for how he physically handled George Floyd during the arrest, which led to Mr. Floyd dying. Chauvin kept his knee on Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, all while Floyd was saying "I Can't Breathe," and pleading for his life, while two other Officers leaned on Floyd's body, and a fourth Officer told concerned bystanders to keep their distance. Leslie is next joined by Connor Maxwell, a senior policy analyst for Race and Ethnicity Policy at the Center for American Progress. His work focuses on criminal justice, racial justice, diversity, and inclusion issues. His Twitter handle is @Connor__Maxwell, and the handle for the Race and Ethnicity policy team of the Center for American Progress is @CAPTalksRace. Leslie and Connor analyze the new policing reform bill released by Congressional Democrats on Monday, which is called "The Justice in Policing Act of 2020." Here are some of the key parts of the bill: - Revising federal law on criminal police misconduct and qualified immunity reform - Ban no-knock warrants in drug cases at the federal level - Ban chokeholds at the federal level - Establish a national registry of misconduct by law enforcement officers - Require states to report use of force to the Justice Department - Mandate racial bias training at the federal level - Require that deadly force only be used as last resort - Make lynching a federal crime - Require police to use more body and dashboard cameras - Limit the transfer of military equipment to local police departments (more info on the bill can be found here: https://www.vox.com/2020/6/8/21283841/democrats-police-reform-bill-explained-george-floyd) Leslie and Connor also briefly touch on the semantics surrounding the #DefundPolice movement, which does not mean what many people think it means.

Hila Klein from the H3 Podcast and h3h3 productions recently tweeted out a selfie wearing a shirt she made to show support for the Black Lives Matter protests. While she claims she wouldn't be selling her "I Can't Breathe" t-shirt in her Teddy Fresh clothing line, it seemed wildly suspicious. I thought the selfie was wildly self-indulgent, and particularly funny considering Hila herself used to be part of the Israeli Defense Force, making it extremely likely she had Krav Maga'd a Palestinian kid's head into orbit. Turns out you can't call out this hypocrisy without enduring the wrath of hundreds of tween girls, and middle aged Jewish women. Plus, one gay guy who decided I need to be cancelled all because I made an innocent photoshop of Hila pulling a George-Floyd-knee-bashing on her own kid. This episode has it all: Ethan's eyebrows, an insane story about Hila breaking international laws, a prank call to a gay bottom, a cartoon by Sven Stoffels, Hila in blackface, a brand new FASHion line, a return from #Goon Elsa Waithe, me getting put on a list of racists, and perhaps strangest of all, an apearance from Luis J. Gomez. Violent protests erupts over the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police; America reaches 100,000 deaths from coronavirus; and the president promises an executive order against social media
On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, was killed by the Minneapolis police department. Floyd is seen on tape, face down on the pavement with a police officer's knee directly on his neck for over 7 minutes. Floyd continuously screamed "I CAN'T BREATHE" to no avail. After roughly 5 minutes, Floyd became unresponsive, and was later pronounced dead by the arriving ambulance. This needs to stop. "Poetry! What is it good for?" is a BCR series focusing on the beautiful and reverberating poetry of our times -- produced by Chris Brandt of Fordham University, English Dept. -- and member of Witness Against Torture. For this BCR episode, Chris invited two members of the inspiring NYC activist performance group The Peace Poets, a "family born of Hip Hop, heart, and hope in New York City." In 2014 their song "I Can't Breathe" protesting the murder of Eric Garner by the NYPD went viral when actor, Samuel L. Jackson, recorded himself singing I Can’t Breathe. These are most talented and inspiring young men with a mission to expose social problems through poetry and music. This episode includes several examples of their work. Do not miss this one and check out The Peace Poets. This BCR episode was recorded at Gebhard's Beer Culture Bar. Today on Sojourner Truth: Five years ago, Eric Garner was killed in a chokehold by New York City police officers. He famously said twelve times, "I Can't Breathe." Nevertheless, the chokehold was not released and Eric was killed. Trump's Attorney General, William Barr, has now made the decision that the police officer involved in Garner's killing will not be charged. This, after years of disagreement and legal wrangling and non-stop campaigning for justice by Eric's family. The murder, which was caught on video tape, sparked protests in New York City and across the country. Many protesters have chanted "I can't breathe." For our Campaigners for Black Lives series, our guest is Lumumba Akinwole-Bandele, a member of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement who serves as Director of Community Organizing for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Protesters are continuing to block access to the building of a controversial telescope in Hawaii on the mountain of Mauna Kea, where a dormant volcano is located. Protesters say the mountain the telescope will be built on is one of the most sacred sites of Indigenous people on the island. We speak with Dr. Kalama Niheu, a protester on the ground in Hawaii, and Iokepa Casumbal-Salazar, a Native Hawaiian who is a professor of Race, Ethnicity, and Indigenous Studies at Ithaca College, New York. On Tuesday, July 16, the Trump administration imposed new asylum rules that are in conflict with international law. Attorney Marjorie Cohn break this down for us.

With #Ferguson once again an issue and the recent slew of questionable African American suicides in the prison system, what is it really like to be #Black in America? *Is there a different standard for blacks in America or is the race card just being used as an excuse? *What are the issues that black males vs. black females face every day? *What are the challenges faced by those who have been incarcerated as they try to reintegrate in society? *How can you stand up for your rights without losing your life? Is America really the home of the free and the brave, filled with opportunity, or does that not apply if you are #Black in America? Tune in, sound off and chime in on Sunday, August 16th at 8:30 pm EST as we have a no holds bar, honest look at this essential topic.
