Episode Summary: In this engaging episode of The Morning Report, host Willie Lawson dives into the intricate dynamics of pursuing a career in education, offering perspective on what potential educators should consider. As Thanksgiving approaches, Willie reflects on the evolution of school breaks and the quality of education today, weaving his experiences as a student and teacher into a rich narrative. The discussion kicks off with an exploration into three foundational questions that aspiring teachers must address, focusing on genuine passion for student development, the emotional demands of teaching, and the practical realities of the profession. Willie underscores the significance of subject expertise and teaching methodology, highlighting criticisms from notable figures like Walter E. Williams about education programs. The episode transitions into a thought-provoking dialogue on how the current education system prepares teachers and the high stakes involved in shaping young minds. Through meticulous analysis, Willie advocates for more extended and rigorous teacher preparation akin to medical residencies, proposing a shift toward performance-based professional models that reward educators for demonstrable excellence and student growth. Key Takeaways:Genuine enthusiasm for developing students is essential for prospective educators.Teaching demands extend beyond academic instruction, requiring emotional resilience and adaptability.Education programs often prioritize teaching methodology over in-depth subject expertise.Performance-based compensation models could incentivize continuous improvement and specialization among teachers.A multi-metric evaluation system for teachers can offer a fair and comprehensive assessment of their impact on student achievements.Notable Quotes:"Most students will only go as far as most teachers can take them.""Teaching isn't just about subject expertise. It requires patience, adaptability, and a deep satisfaction from helping others grow.""The current situation creates a troubling cycle. Teachers with knowledge gaps struggle to teach effectively.""This [free agent] model allows exceptional teachers to be compensated based on their actual impact and abilities.""Imagine having a teacher going to an elementary school in the ghetto and being able to make other teachers around them better."Resources:FightBackMedia.com - FightBackMedia.comWalter E. This Flashback Friday is from episode 1270 published last August 29, 2019. Jason Hartman talks with Walter E Williams, Professor of Economics at George Mason University and author of American Contempt for Liberty, about what is going on in our society today. America has become a country of people who hate liberty and want to take from others to give to themselves or others who they deem need it more. There seems to be an unwillingness to accept that people earn more than others and thinking that the government needs to step in and play a role. Walter explains to Jason how we can solve our problems by telling the government to get out of the way more than telling them to help. Key Takeaways: 2:58 Make sure you're investing in things that make sense THE DAY YOU BUY THEM Walter E Williams Interview: 8:10 Do United States citizens really have contempt for liberty? 14:18 Has the Trump administration turned the tide at all? 17:40 Is a wealth tax fair? 22:28 Politicians are doing exactly what we elect them to do 27:42 The only way we're going to solve our nation's problems Website: www.JasonHartman.com/Cruise www.WalterEWilliams.com Follow Jason on TWITTER, INSTAGRAM & LINKEDIN Twitter.com/JasonHartmanROI Instagram.com/jasonhartman1/ Linkedin.com/in/jasonhartmaninvestor/ Call our Investment Counselors at: 1-800-HARTMAN (US) or visit: https://www.jasonhartman.com/ Free Class: Easily get up to $250,000 in funding for real estate, business or anything else: http://JasonHartman.com/Fund CYA Protect Your Assets, Save Taxes & Estate Planning: http://JasonHartman.com/Protect Get wholesale real estate deals for investment or build a great business – Free Course: https://www.jasonhartman.com/deals Special Offer from Ron LeGrand: https://JasonHartman.com/Ron Free Mini-Book on Pandemic Investing: https://www.PandemicInvesting.com

Hi, talk about a video was had Walter E Williams that talked about the effects of the minimum wage. He tried to explain that the only effects from the minimum wage are negative. Using an example of a low skilled worker, and how employers aren't willing to hire lower skilled workers at the minimum wage level. I go on to explain how that's not true, using common sense and logic. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/trae-fields/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/trae-fields/support

As a young high school and college student, I didn't think much about the minimum wage... I knew I wanted a job and more money of course... but my economic and business knowledge was extremely limited. I felt obliged to touch base on the debate of minimum wage because once I acquired a bit more information on the topic, I realized this policy causes more harm than good. I wanted to dive into the fallacy of the minimum wage and of course point out the contradictory rhetoric of the LEFT that always pushes for it. I also would like to introduce you to the late, great Walter E. Williams. We will extrapolate on his informative documentaries Good Intentions and Suffer No Fools. Lets see exactly why he was strongly against the minimum wage and how these government interventions are always promoted as "anti-poverty devices" but actually do the exact opposite... especially for poor minority communities. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/unveiledpatriot/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/unveiledpatriot/support

Gain Access to the Liberty Informant! ------- One of the first lessons in an economics class is every action has a cost. That is in stark contrast to lessons in the political arena where politicians virtually ignore cost and talk about benefits and free stuff. When Walter E. Williams passed away last week, the world lost a giant intellectual, prolific columnist, humorist, economist and preacher of the truth about free markets and the United States Constitution. He was a master communicator with an uncanny ability to make complex topics and theories understandable. Throughout his life, he demonstrated unwavering courage to stand up and tell the truth starting with his challenge of the U.S. Army and President John F. Kennedy over racial discrimination in the military while holding the lowly rank of Private! He spent decades teaching economics at George Mason University and, along the way, blessed us with volumes of logic and common sense - some of which I share with you in this episode. On December 2nd, 2020, the economist Walter E. Williams passed away at the age of 84.Williams worked his way out of grinding poverty in the Philadelphia housing projects to chair George Mason University’s economics department. Over his career he authored 10 books and more than 150 other publications, and become one of the most recognized commentators on our American public life of the last four decades. Williams spread his message of racial equality, the dignity of work, and the morality of capitalism through his syndicated newspaper column, PBS documentaries, and frequent radio and TV appearances.Today, we feature a presentation that Dr. Williams gave in 1994 for the Institute’s Acton Lecture Series, discussing the legitimate role of government in a free society.A quick heads up: as we mentioned, this audio is from 1994. Our production team has done a lot of work to clean it up, but in the beginning of the talk Dr. Williams’ audio is very faint. Rather than cut out the beginning of his remarks, we’ve left them in. If you want to skip ahead to where the audio becomes clearer, then you can jump to the 7:46 mark in the podcast. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Today’s Flash Back Friday was originally published in August 2019. Key Takeaways: [2:34] Make sure you're investing in things that make sense THE DAY YOU BUY THEM Walter E Williams Interview: [7:46] Do United States citizens really have contempt for liberty? [13:41] Has the Trump administration turned the tide at all? [17:03] Is a wealth tax fair? [21:51] Politicians are doing exactly what we elect them to do [27:05] The only way we're going to solve our nation's problems Website: www.JasonHartman.com/Cruise www.WalterEWilliams.com

“But let me offer you my definition of social justice: I keep what I earn and you keep what you earn. Do you disagree? Well then tell me how much of what I earn belongs to you - and why?” ― Walter E. WilliamsI am eager to welcome the Cato Institute's Michael Tanner back to the show of ideas to discuss his recent blog post sketching the contours of a libertarian “anti-racist” policy agenda.Last time he joined the show, we discussed his book The Inclusive Economy, which I called “the definitive book on libertarian anti-poverty policy.” This Sunday, we will focus specifically on those laws which disproportionately harm minorities in the United States, and why a subtractive approach that leaves people “free to choose” is superior to new policies rife with unintended consequences. Tanner will explain why libertarians should embrace the banner of anti-racism, albeit by proposing alternative means to achieve it than the usual Social Justice Warrior's approach.I will also use the opportunity to celebrate the life of Walter E. Williams (1936-2020), the George Mason University economics professor, whose teaching brought clarity, wit and wisdom to bear on the subjects of social justice and anti-racism. Williams, perhaps more than any other figure, understood the market's power to conquer artificial barriers like racial discrimination. Walter's passing is huge loss for classical liberals, but his legacy lives on in the work of scholars like Michael Tanner.Join our conversation live this Sunday (12/6), at 8am PACIFIC time. As always, your calls are welcome.Benjamin Franklin once said: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
