The episode delves into the pressures, stigmas, and barriers that prevent trainees from seeking help, combining expert insights with personal narratives. We also hear from Jack's partner and parents, who stress the need for systemic change and de-stigmatization of mental health struggles in medical education.    Description of Series  DWDI Special Series: Suicidality in Medical Training dives into the critical conversations around mental health, well-being, support systems, and the intense pressures faced during medical training. Through the power of storytelling, the series intertwines these broader themes with the deeply personal story of Dr. Jack Ruddell, a promising medical student who tragically died by suicide. Jack's journey—his strengths, struggles, and the complexities leading to his untimely death—forms the emotional core of this five-part series, giving voice to the loved ones often excluded from these conversations. Alongside Jack's story, the series incorporates expert insights and data from the literature, offering a human perspective on burnout, depression, and suicide among medical trainees. With a commitment to improving mental health awareness and reducing the stigma around seeking help, the series presents a novel approach by centering personal narratives alongside expert analysis. It also explores actionable strategies for improving medical training environments and highlights the importance of institutional responses after a loss by suicide. Trump's Two Speeches, Biden Exit or Dem Wishcasting? Dems Doubt Trump Shooting

Today, Jim and Greg discuss the two speeches within Donald Trump's RNC address, reports that President Joe Biden plans to continue with his campaign while other Democrats plant stories that he is quitting, and the shocking number of Democrats buying into conspiracy theories about the attempted assassination of Trump.First, they analyze the very different of Trump's speech last night. They agree that the beginning of the speech, discussing the assassination attempt and honoring Corey Comperatore, was the strongest part. They also suggest that the rally-style improvisation made the speech too long. And while it probably didn't cost him any votes, a tighter speech may have appealed to more people. They agree that it seemed to be a successful convention and that every Gen X kid loved Hulk Hogan's appearance.Next, they compare conflicting reports about the likelihood that Biden will discontinue his re-election campaign, with sources close to the president reporting that they are "furious" about the pressure campaign that has been launched against him. Jim thinks that the liberal media is essentially dreamcasting, and that Biden will not step down if those closest to him want him to stay in office. Finally, they raise their eyebrows at the startling one-third of Democrats who believe that the attempted assassination of Trump was a hoax. Jim observes that you have to have an animal hatred of Trump for your first instinct at the shooting to be contemptuous disbelief.

On this week's episode, Dr. Riley Kirk discusses illegal pesticides found in legal California cannabis products with Alex Halperin, the founder of WeedWeek and one of the main reporters on this topic. They review what pesticides were found, how this investigation started, and how the industry can improve these findings. This article is very important for medical users to be aware of and is unfortunately another reason why we need to have the right to homegrow. Most labs when analyzing cannabis products are using a targeted method of analysis, meaning they know what molecules they are looking for and they report on those specific compounds. However, in this case, the illegal pesticides were not known, so they were not tested for. This brings up the issue if the cannabis industry needs to implement some form of testing to ensure we are not missing anything potentially harmful in the products.  If you want to read the pdf of the article for free, see the full list of pesticides that were found in this study with the known health risks, and find out what brands tested hot all this info is linked is Riley's Patreon.   Thanks always for listening and special thanks to anyone who has given Bioactive a 5 star review - mad love my friends and see you in 2 weeks!  WeedWeek Website to read the article and Subscribe: https://www.weedweek.com/stories/la-times-weedweek-california-weeds-dirty-secret/ Find out more about Alex and WeedWeek: https://www.weedweek.com/about/ Follow or subscribe wherever you get your podcasts!  www.bioactivepodcast.com Support this podcast on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/cannabichem  Follow along on social media: https://www.tiktok.com/@cannabichem https://www.instagram.com/cannabichem https://www.instagram.com/bioactivepodcast https://www.youtube.com/@cannabichem Watch this podcast on Youtube: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLurdly7OUmtRjRvha5H-jhqZ2AQ2329v2&si=iwZApqlkdWD34ZGs Follow other industry news and research: https://www.appliedpharmacognosy.org/

In the middle decades of the twentieth century in New York City, Dubrow's cafeterias in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn and the garment district of Manhattan were places to get out of your apartment, have coffee with friends, or enjoy a hearty but affordable meal. They were grounded in the world of Jewish immigrants and their children, and they thrived in years when Flatbush and the Garment District each had a distinctly Jewish character. The cafeterias were also places where working class and modestly middle class New Yorkers of European ancestry, with few great luxuries in their lives, could enjoy a taste of culinary abundance. Under demographic changes, economic decay and high crime in the 1970s and 1980s, the world that produced Dubrow's came apart. The Brooklyn branch of Dubrow's closed in 1978, the Manhattan branch in 1985. But before Dubrow's cafeterias were shuttered, Marcia Bricker Halperin captured their mood and their patrons in black and white photographs.
