In this Palm Sunday message, Pastor Karl walks through Matthew 12 — not the triumphal entry itself, but the pivotal chapter that sets it all in motion. This is the first moment in Scripture where a plot to kill Jesus takes shape, and the first time Jesus begins pointing toward his own death and resurrection. It is, as Pastor Karl calls it, the hinge point of Jesus's entire ministry. At the heart of the chapter is a confrontation with the Pharisees over the Sabbath — a conflict that sounds minor on the surface but carries enormous weight. Through it, Jesus makes a series of audacious claims: that he is greater than King David, greater than the Temple, and Lord of the Sabbath itself. Each claim forces those listening to a decision — either Jesus is speaking blasphemy, or he is exactly who he says he is.Pastor Karl unpacks why these claims were so explosive in their original context, what the Temple and Sabbath meant to first-century Jewish life, and why Jesus's healings and challenges to religious authority weren't just acts of compassion — they were declarations of kingship. The message lands on a sobering note for Palm Sunday: the same crowd that would soon shout Hosanna would, five days later, shout Crucify him. And the reason, Pastor Karl argues, isn't hard to find — it's the same reason any of us would.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

In this sermon on John 16 by Christian Barrett, explore Jesus' final teaching to His disciples and discover how His promise, “Take heart; I have overcome the world,” brings real hope and peace. Christian breaks down the chapter: persecution and being put out of the synagogue (vv. 1‑4), the coming of the Holy Spirit (vv. 7‑15), Jesus' departure and return (vv. 16‑24), His oneness with the Father (vv. 25‑28) and the call to take heart (vv. 29‑33)—and see why doctrine matters. You'll learn what Christology teaches about Jesus: He is uncreated God come in the flesh, sent to save sinners, now reigning and interceding for us.my reading list: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/74696644-christian-barrettFollow us: on Instagram instagram.com/emetministriesFollow us: https://www.instagram.com/youngadultwestwood/Christian unpacks Jesus' words: “I came from the Father and have come into the world; I am leaving the world and going to the Father” (Jn 16:28). You'll hear how:Jesus is from the Father—eternally divine (Isa 9:6).He came into the world as God in the flesh to die for sinners and offer salvation by faith alone. He returns to the Father, now ruling and interceding on our behalf. We then ask: How does this doctrine bring peace? Jesus dares us to believe that He has overcome the world. When trials come—persecution, illness, loss—we can look to Him instead of worldly comforts. The sermon challenges believers to apply doctrine daily (prayer, Bible reading, church community) and invites seekers to begin their journey with Christ.Call to Action & ResourcesLike this video, subscribe, and share if you're encouraged.CHAPTERS00:00 – John 16 Explained | Take Heart, I Have Overcome the World02:49 – Summary of John 13–16 | Jesus' Final Teaching to His Disciples05:11 – What Is Doctrine? Audio - Why Jesus DiedJesus died on the cross for many reasons, but His focus was to bring us to the Father. He who knew no sin was made to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Why Jesus Died on the Cross - Today we're talking about why the cross was necessary and our verse is Luke 24:26 This was after the crucifiction as Jesus has risen and now walks among his disciples... Sure...There is nothing attractive about the crucifixion. The world looks at the cross and doesn't see a powerful God. Instead, it sees weakness, pain, violence, hate, and disgust. The cross is a stumbling block for unbelievers according to the apostle Paul (1 Corinthians 1:23) because it doesn't make sense. It's offensive to those who believe in other gods and idols who they think are unshakable. "Jesus died for us," says the New Testament. And once we ask, "What exactly did that DO?" we are doing the work of atonement theology. And the Scriptures are full of various ways of talking about it. In their ongoing series for this Lent, pastors Erica, Sarah, and Steve have been looking at some of those descriptions. Having already looked at the Bible's talk of Jesus' death and resurrection as a "victory" in a battle over sin, death, and evil, they now turn to another well-known picture, that for many folks is their default assumption: the idea that Jesus' death paid a debt for humanity or took our punishment, in order to satisfy the debt owed to God or God's sense of justice. But... even that picture raises more questions, like: "If God is just going to forgive us, why does someone need to die?" and "If it's OUR sin that needs punishing, why does it count as justice for someone else to die for it?" and "Is God just demanding a pound of flesh as punishment, and if Jesus takes my punishment, can I just be a jerk to everyone?" It turns out that the penal substitution theory for the atonement raises at least as many questions as it answers, and that there are limits to this analogy just as there were to the Christus Victor analogy we looked at last time. Join us for an engaging conversation that includes conversation partners ranging from John Calvin to Harry Potter, and from Anselm in the 11th century to the young adult novel, "The Whipping Boy."
There are so many simple, easily understood statements in the Bible that contain all the Gospel truth you could ever need. Verses like - “Christ died for our sins”. These five words contain within them all the gospel truth – the problem of our sin, the Person of Christ, the work for us upon the cross, and the personal aspect of applying it to ourselves.
