    Ivy Insights

The Archispeak podcast is a delightful and informative show that discusses architecture and life as an architect. As an aspiring architect myself, I have found this podcast to be incredibly encouraging and helpful in practical ways. The hosts, Neal, Evan, and Cormac, bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table, making each episode enjoyable and insightful.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is the diverse perspectives brought by the hosts. With one host being a sole proprietor, another from a medium-sized firm, and the third from a larger firm, there is a range of viewpoints that provide a well-rounded discussion on various topics related to architecture. This diversity adds depth to the conversations and ensures that listeners get different insights into different areas of architectural practice.

Another great aspect of Archispeak is the authenticity and intelligent insight provided by the hosts. They address important topics such as the lack of exposure to budgeting constraints in studio courses, which have become talking points between students and faculty concerning design programs. This kind of content sparks conversation within the architectural community and helps shed light on often overlooked aspects of the profession.

While this podcast offers valuable content for architects at all stages of their careers, one minor drawback is that it lacks female representation on the panel. All three hosts are male architects, which limits the diversity of perspectives even further. Adding a female voice to the panel would greatly enhance the richness and inclusiveness of discussions on architecture.

In conclusion, The Archispeak podcast has quickly become a favorite for me as an aspiring architect. It provides authentic insights into the architectural profession while still maintaining an enjoyable conversational tone. The topics discussed are relevant and thought-provoking, making it a valuable resource for architects looking to stay informed and engaged with current discussions in their field.

What makes architecture memorable? Why do some spaces hit you in the chest while others feel hollow? In this episode of Archispeak, we explore a concept that's rarely taught but deeply felt. Genius loci. The spirit of the place. From volunteering as a docent at Frank Lloyd Wright's Home and Studio to taking a group of recent grads on an architectural pilgrimage through Chicago, Cormac shares stories that tie memory, mentorship, and emotion to design. Along the way, we discuss how the demands of modern practice often push this spirit aside in favor of speed, budgets, and repeatability.Together, we wrestle with what it means to create architecture that belongs—architecture that understands its context, uplifts the human experience, and becomes part of the emotional fabric of our lives. If you've ever stood in a space and simply felt something you couldn't explain, this one's for you.-----Have a question for the hosts?
