Vse to brbota nekje v ozadju Karsheve zasebne zgodbe.

Rigor doesn't equal hard work and ease doesn't equal work that is easy. Asking for help, refusing to resent our capacity, honoring the needs of our body and moving at the speed of creative flow is rigorous work that might require practice if our learned impulse is to habitually bring ourselves to the edge of our capacity in order to feel worthy of the ease of our creative expression. Our art flows out of us like our breath, sometimes the hardest work is to let and protect it.ResourcesRegister for the Free 2-Part Worldbuilding Workshop Series: https://www.seedaschool.com/programSubscribe to the Seeda School Substack: https://seedaschool.substack.com/Follow Ayana on Instagram: @ayzacoFollow Ayana on Threads: @ayzacoFollow Seeda School on Instagram: @seedaschoolCitations“you're not a perfectionist, you're internalizing capitalism” meme by Ariana Brown (@arianathepoet)Cover Art: Book Scan from Your Satisfaction Is Our Future (2017) by Ayana Zaire Cotton

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for March 23, 2025 is: de rigueur • duh-ree-GUR • adjective De rigueur is a formal adjective that describes things that are necessary if you want to be fashionable, popular, socially acceptable, etc.—in other words, things required by fashion, etiquette, or custom. // Dark sunglasses are de rigueur these days among fashionistas. See the entry > Examples: “Summer swimwear has come a long way since itty-bitty string bikinis were de rigueur for the beach and by the pool.” — Amanda Randone, Refinery29.com, 31 May 2024 Did you know? It takes a lot of work to be cool. One needs to wear the right clothes, understand the right pop culture references, and use the right lingo before it ceases to be, ahem, on fleek. Rigor is required, is what we're saying—a strict precision in adhering to the dictates of fashion. Such rigor is at the crux of the adjective de rigueur, a direct borrowing from French where it means “out of strictness” or “according to strict etiquette.” Rigor is also what distinguishes de rigueur from a similar French borrowing, du jour. While the latter describes things that are popular, fashionable, or prominent at a particular time, as in “topic/style/buzzword du jour,” de rigueur describes that which is considered mandatory by fashion, etiquette, or custom for acceptability within a given social sphere or context. A bucket hat, for example, may be the chapeau du jour if it is currently popular or prevalent, but it would only be de rigueur if, among a certain crowd, you would be given the side-eye for not wearing one.

The pandemic magnified long-standing challenges in education, particularly in math, where students across the country have fallen behind. Research from McKinsey & Company found that students, on average, were five months behind in math due to COVID-19-related disruptions. However, the crisis also sparked innovation, with tutoring emerging as one of the most effective interventions for accelerating learning. As schools work to bridge the gap, what does it take to re-engage students and make math education more effective? How can we help students not only catch up but also fall in love with math? That's the question at the center of today's episode of DisruptED, where host Ron J. Stefanski speaks with Phyllis Hillwig, the CEO of Eurekii. Hillwig has dedicated her career to reshaping math education, combining rigor, engagement, and measurable impact in her tutoring approach. In this episode, she shares her journey, insights into why students struggle with math, and how her startup is helping bridge the achievement gap.Key takeaways from the episode…Student engagement is crucial: Eurekii's approach makes math learning fun and interactive, ensuring that students are excited about the subject rather than intimidated by it.Rigor matters: Challenging students with complex problems fosters deeper learning and builds resilience, a crucial factor in long-term success.Measuring success: Effective tutoring programs require clear, measurable outcomes to demonstrate impact and justify investment in educational interventions.Phyllis Hillwig is the CEO of Eurekii, where she has spent over five years reshaping math education through engaging, student-first tutoring that emphasizes fun, challenging, and measurable results. With a background spanning educational publishing, business strategy, and K-12 learning, she has led initiatives to enhance student achievement through innovative teaching methods. Previously, she held leadership roles at organizations like BridgeEdU, Wisewire, and Words & Numbers, driving impactful educational programs and strategic growth in the industry.

In this episode, Dr. Christopher Perrin explores the tension between rigor and rest in classical education, drawing on Aristotle's concept of virtue as a balance between extremes. He examines how rigor is often emphasized as a corrective to declining academic standards but warns against its overuse, which can lead to a rigid and joyless educational experience. Discussion includes monastic traditions, the etymology of “school” (scholé), and scriptural examples to illustrate how classical education thrives when both rigor and rest are harmonized. By drawing on historical and philosophical insights, as well as practical examples from classical schools, Dr. Perrin advocates for a blended approach that includes contemplation, wonder, and delight alongside academic challenge.

random Wiki of the Day

rWotD Episode 2863: Forfun Welcome to Random Wiki of the Day, your journey through Wikipedia’s vast and varied content, one random article at a time. The random article for Thursday, 6 March 2025 is Forfun.Forfun was a Brazilian alternative rock band which reached the peak of its popularity in the mid- to late 2000s. Formed in Rio de Janeiro in 2001, their initial line-up comprised vocalist/guitarist Danilo Cutrim, bassist Vítor Isensee and drummer Bruno Tizé. By 2002, Tizé left the band and was replaced by Nicholas Christ, while Isensee switched his position with Rodrigo Costa to become second guitarist. Their first shows were frequently attended by the sons of then-Deputy (and future President) Jair Bolsonaro, Eduardo and Carlos, who were personal friends of the bandmembers; Eduardo would later cameo in the music video for "História de Verão". They released in 2003 the demo album Das Pistas de Skate às Pistas de Dança, which was a significant underground hit, and in 2005 their official debut, Teoria Dinâmica Gastativa, produced by Liminha, came out through Universal Music Group.Following the release of Polisenso (2008) and Alegria Compartilhada (2011), which counted with guest appearances by rapper Black Alien and big band Funk Como Le Gusta, the group reached further proeminence due to their nominations to the MTV Video Music Brazil award in 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2012; in the 2005 edition, they performed a cover of Ultraje a Rigor's "Nós Vamos Invadir Sua Praia" alongside Leela, Ramirez and Dibob, with whom they would develop a strong friendship. In 2012 they collaborated on the song "Rio Porque Tô no Rio", described as an ode to Rio de Janeiro. In 2007, they collaborated on the eighth album by Santos-based band Charlie Brown Jr., Ritmo, Ritual e Responsa, co-writing and performing the track "O Universo a Nosso Favor". On February 13 and 14 of the same year, they participated in a show organized by MTV Brasil alongside Fresno, Hateen, Moptop and NX Zero; a live album of the performance would be released soon after, titled MTV ao Vivo: 5 Bandas de Rock.In 2013, they released the DVD Forfun ao Vivo no Circo Voador, recorded on December 20, 2012, and which counted with guest appearances by their friends from Dibob, Toni Garrido of Cidade Negra and Dead Fish vocalist Rodrigo Lima. The DVD contains three studio tracks recorded as extras: "Ahorita", "Malícia" and "Terra de Cego".Their final studio album, Nu, came out in 2014. The following year they announced they would be ceasing their activities; Rodrigo Costa would elaborate in a 2019 interview that the major reason of the band's end was that he was veering from their initial "left-wing ideals", causing a rift between him and his colleagues. In 2016, Cutrim, Isensee and Christ formed a new project, Braza, and alongside former members of Dibob and Ramirez, Costa founded the group Tivoli. In 2022, they released the DVD Forfun ao Vivo na Fundição, originally recorded on December 12, 2015, at the last show of their farewell tour. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:12 UTC on Thursday, 6 March 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Forfun on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Stephen.

Episode Notes:   -High Tech High- PBL Based Leader -International Educator to move from teacher focused to student focused learning. -Moving from  sage on the stage to the guide on the side. Where do you start? Look at the physical environment first. Eliminating the ‘front' of the classroom and teacher desk, which changes the dynamics in the room. It makes any space in the room a learning space.  -Have students help in the redesign process around what their needs are, the environment dictates what the learning looks like. Shared decision making is pivotal.  -Giving voice and choice, involving the students within each portion of the learning process. -Lead with questions- student generated or open ended?  -Encouraging student independence - it does not come overnight, structures need to be put into place over time.  -Project Based Learning - student driven - foster that level of independence with critical thinking with support and then slowly take some of those supports away. -Make things highly visual in your classroom - even progression within learning. -Classroom culture that encourages students to ask questions, explore, and find inquiry within their own learning. -How do I set up an environment that fosters that type of inquiry? Work to gather and group questions together and gauge interest so you can structure accordingly. Start with the student at the center of the lesson. -Don't lead with content, lead with inquiry. What is an open ended challenge you can present? What is meaningful to them? How can you scaffold their learning by addressing that inquiry? -Rigor - having high expectations for student learning - have to teach them to not rely on us as much. It is not about jumping and checking boxes. It has to be led by wonder and inquiry. -Try to eliminate teacher time in the front of the room. How can you reach the same end without the teacher being the main focus? Have students present their learning or share out. It is a great formative assessment.  -How can they articulate their learning in a way that is meaningful to them?  -Coaching means reaching your own identified personalized goals. -A mentor or a coach will always be my saving grace in education. Reach out as you need someone to coach you through. Shift models are so important and have made a world of difference and have brought back the joy!  -Find your mentor or your coach. What does it mean to perceive reality? How do art, science, and philosophy converge in shaping our understanding of the world? In this episode of Departures with Robert Amsterdam, we sit down with William Egginton, acclaimed author and professor, to dive into his latest book, "The Rigor of Angels: Borges, Heisenberg, Kant, and the Ultimate Nature of Reality." Egginton weaves a captivating narrative that bridges the literary genius of Jorge Luis Borges, the groundbreaking physics of Werner Heisenberg, the poetry of Robert Frost, and the profound philosophy of Immanuel Kant. Egginton explores how these thinkers confronted the boundaries of human knowledge, the mysteries of perception, and the paradoxes of existence, fate, and choice. In this conversation with Robert Amsterdam, Egginton shares his insights into the unexpected connections and overlapping themes with these towering figures, the questions they asked, and how their ideas resonate with our quest to make sense of an increasingly complex universe. The remarkable harmony between nature, science, art, philosophy and literature during these critical years resonated deeply with us, and we hope you enjoy this conversation about this special book.

You know I like to get existential. This time last year, I sat down with author and academic, William/Bill Egginton to talk about his book, "The Rigor of Angels." I'd been contacted by his publicist and was intrigued about the book and what it might offer exvangelicals who are reinventing themselves and might not know anything about poetry, philosophy, and quantum mechanics, much less the meaning of the Universe. It was too good a conversation to let sit in the archives after my year of hiatus. Since our chat, his book has won some awards including New York Times and New Yorker book of the year. This week, Drewby drive a couple miles to Bowdoin, Maine, to discuss the case of Sarah Cherry. Normally, we'd give you a case preview, but not this time. We've been working on this case for the better part of two years, and it's one that's extremely close to our hearts due to it's proximity to us. As I'm sure you know by now, we try our very best to present our cases as neutrally as possible - or at the very least, as neutrally as the readily available information will allow. This case is very difficult for us due to the fact that the police in charge of case botched it all ways possible. This included destroying DNA evidence, lying in court, altering documents, ignoring two very likely suspects, and railroading a local farmer on circumstantial evidence alone. Please listen to all of the evidence carefully and let us know your thoughts. Did the police get their guy? Or has an innocent man been locked up in our supermax for decades? This wouldn't be the first time...  We want the right person behind bars. If that's Dennis, then I'm happy they caught him quickly. But they need to prove it, and without ignoring all other avenues of people who fit the profile much better than Dennis did. They didn't do that here.
