I work at a hippotherapy clinic where we do physical therapy on horseback for special needs and disabled children and adults.We have one horse in particular who is young and a little silly and stubborn. Our fill-in therapist walked up the ramp and mounted the horse with the child who was there for therapy.You see, she doesn't have a whole lot of riding experience, but she fills in for our full-time physical therapist who is battling cancer and has to get treatments during the work week.I have many years of horse experience, and so I can see things that are coming in their behavior before it actually happens. I could see the horse's body stiffen up.I saw him begin to lean down and back. Not only that, but I also noticed Buffie's body stiffen and her eyes grew wide with fear.I knew Woody was just leaning down for a quick stretch before the session. Buffie had no idea what was going on.I just smiled and said, “Buffie, just hold on. It's okay!”Once he stretched and straightened his body back up, we were all so relieved.I knew he wasn't going to do anything crazy, but when you are on a horse, and they lean wayyyyyy down to stretch, it can be scary!You do feel like maybe he will just dump you right off. Buffie said when she saw me smile and say “Hold on” she knew it would be okay.In the same way, we need to trust our Father in heaven. He is the one with the reigns, and he is the one who knows what's coming next. When you have an unexpected incident, and you feel fear or despair, just picture this story. Look to the Father as he smiles and says, “Just hold on, my child. It may be scary right now, but everything will be okay.”Prayer: God, I come to you in awe and humility. I am so thankful you have a plan for this crazy life! When things in the world, or even just in my little world, get chaotic and scary, I am thankful that I can look to you, and you have a plan and a purpose. I do believe that you work all things out for good, just as you said in Romans 8:28. The landscape around me was mist and cloud and honestly kind of depressing.As I sighed and slammed the leaky cup down in the cupholder, I kept driving on my route.As I started the incline on the General K. Wilson bridge, locally known as the Dolly Parton Bridge, the fog began to thin.The air around became lighter and more vibrant. I began to see rays of sunlight breaking through.And then in one instant, all of the darkness and dreariness cleared to reveal the most beautiful sunrise.The sun shone in golden beams of light all over the landscape. The river far below sparkled like diamonds. The trees became a beautiful deep green.Even the fog was beautiful from this point of view.I wanted to remind you; it will get better. If you keep on pressing forward toward the prize, you will win the crown.God doesn't make promises that he won't keep.Be encouraged in knowing that your sunrise will break through that fog and you will see the light of joy and peace in Jesus Christ flood into your life.Just keep moving forward toward the goal.Prayer: God, I thank you that you filled your scriptures with encouragement and promises that we can hold on to when sometimes in our lives things seem very dreary. Each day has enough trouble of its own. | Matthew 6:34We hear this a lot in modern day culture.“Be present”.But what does that mean?To be present means to live in the moment.Yes it is okay to plan for the future, but don't worry and be anxious about things you cannot control.Often we worry about things and cause ourselves much stress over things that never even come to pass!I think that's why God reminds us here to be present.Don't worry about tomorrow, for we aren't even promised a tomorrow.Just stay present and do what good you can do for today.Another side of the “Be present” coin is not to live in the past.I have a very soiled and broken section of my past that has been very hard to forgive and leave behind. Things I've done continue to resurface in my mind and through people who knew me when I was in the world.The bible says in Psalm 103:12 that God has removed our sins from us as far as the East is from the West.God doesn't hold our past against us anymore, so we shouldn't continue to punish ourselves either.Prayer: God thank you for this reminder in your word to be present and not worry about tomorrow. As she sang the lyric was “My past embraced. My sins forgiven.” This suddenly struck a chord with me. I have a lot of really nasty things in my past, just like I'm sure most of you do. I try to ignore it, bury it, and even pretend it doesn't exist. But if you ignore your past instead of embracing it, you could be robbing God of his glory. We need to embrace our past, no matter how ugly, and lean on God our father who took all of those ugly experiences and totally forgave us and showed us mercy. He wiped all of the bad things away, so even if it hurts we HAVE to embrace what we've come through and what we've been rescued from to truly give God the glory and the credit he deserves for showing such grace and mercy to us. I know I did nothing to deserve a second chance, but his pure love caused him to extend it to me anyway. Prayer: Father THANK YOU for making me a new creation. Thank you for showing me grace and rescuing me from the sins of my past. I'm so grateful to have been forgiven and adopted into your family as your child. Please help me to spread the word of the glorious miracle of your forgiveness and love and never to be ashamed of my beginnings. May my testimony bring you all the glory! God tells us in this scripture that if we give our bodies over to hardship, but we don't have LOVE, we gain nothing from it.I don't know about you, but when I labor I want it to mean something!To produce something fruitful in my life and the lives of others.Just try to do all things through the lens of LOVE.Love others and help them, just as Christ loves us.Love can be the lens that you use to judge all other things by.If you love yourself, you won't feed your body harmful things.If you love your neighbor, you won't sleep with his wife or steal from him.Love always leads to the high road.Prayer: God help me to love in all that I do. Having a frequent reminder of what God has to say about these situations you are going through will help you to feel like you are not alone and God is working on your problems to turn them around for your good.Prayer: God THANK YOU for your word! When I don't know if I can hear your voice in the moment, I always have your scriptures to turn to for comfort and guidance. Lord help me to lock your words away in my heart so that when I need them the most, they'll come to the surface. You made me unique and set apart for a reason and I pray that fear wouldn't hold me back from spreading your love to those around me. Help me to remember that wide is the path to destruction but narrow is the gate that we should enter into righteousness. This is a very biblical principle!Any time you see an injustice, it is your duty to stand up and seek justice.Seek out the right thing and the righteous path.I know its hard and I know we sometimes fail, but It's something we should work on and strive for, especially in today's world.Evil is around every corner, and if we don't seek justice and speak up, who will?Prayer: God give me the courage I need to stand up for what's right. My heart has always broken for them because obviously not everyone is going to be on a church board or have a title in front of a bunch of people. This doesn't mean that your work that you do for God means any less! Imagine the church as a body how it is described in the Bible. Some people might have more obvious jobs, like the eyes or mouth, but the pinky toe is just as important! Without balance, we can't move forward. A body can't walk properly without toes! We all have to work together to keep the entire body functioning properly. We won't all have the more flashy titles or the jobs with obvious recognition, but we can't be worried about that. We must continue to do all things as we're doing them for Christ. Even going to your job on a daily basis you can make a difference in the lives of the people you come in contact with.Prayer: Lord please help me to do every job, every task, every thing in life as if I'm doing it for Christ. I know that you will bless the work of my hands and that you will use it to serve the body of Christ in ways I may never know about. Let us take truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the word of God into all things that we do. These will be our strength and our protection. Prayer: Thank you father that you put in place things for us to meditate on and take with us each day to offer us protection from the enemy. We know the battle we fight isn't against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Your heart will overflow into your actions and your life. Matthew 12:34 says the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. If your heart is full of hate and malice, that's what your words and your actions in life will take the shape of. On the flip side of the coin, if you speak life and perform acts of kindness, your life will be a reflection of God's love and great mercy. If you find that your life isn't quite reflecting the image that you want to portray, spend some time in a quiet place seeking God's face. Ask him to touch and change your heart into a heart for helping others. He is faithful to answer, but sometimes we have to quiet our busy lives enough to be able to hear that still small voice. I encourage you to seek out ways to help others and be a blessing to them. God will surely reward you for it and your life will be a reflection of beauty and grace.Prayer: God touch my heart today. Give me a heart for all things good and pleasant. Help me to bear the fruits of the spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control) in all that I do. They even come to us in many ways. Sometimes he speaks almost audibly. Sometimes we dream prophetic dreams. Sometimes we read of his promises directly from the word. One thing we can be sure of, is that God is a keeper of promises. He is truth. This scripture reminds us of the promise of Christ. Imagine how Mary must have felt once the angel came and gave her the promise of being the mother of Christ. I'm sure doubt tried to set in, and she had struggles of her own, but she continued to trust in the Lord and not her own thoughts and understanding. She continued to pursue and believe in the promises of God in her life, and we should too! Prayer: God I thank you so much that you have a perfect will and a perfect plan for my life. Help me Lord to trust in you and be faithful to know that your promises are coming because you are truth and life, and doubt and fear are liars.
