Why Did the Rambam Not Feel It Was Arrogant to Write that His Was the Only Book Necessary to Master Jewish Law?On Sunday, 2 Adar, 5785, March 2, 2025, the 44th international Siyum HaRambam took place in Brooklyn, NY, where thousands gathered to celebrate the completion of the study of Mishnah Torah by the Rambam, according to the daily learning cycle of Rambam instituted by the Lubavitcher Rebbe in 1984. Rabbi YY Jacobson presented the keynote lecture at the Siyum, highlighting the contribution of the Rambam to Judaism and its relevance today. The lecture recalls memories of the Rebbe making a Siyum and Hadran on the Rambam back in 1986; it explains the remarkable revolution of the Rambam in Jewish law; and how the Rambam teaches us not to be embarrassed by who we are.

Keynote Lecture Kesher Nafshi: Rabbi YY Jacobson presented this keynote lecture at the Kesher Nafshi Shabbaton which was at the Raleigh hotel, in South Falsburg, NY, Friday27 Sivan, 5783,June 16, 2023. On June 9, 2023, four children were found in the Amazon jungle, after being stranded there for forty days following a plain crash. How did they survive the harrowing ordeal? Rabbi YY uses this story as a metaphor to explain how we need to help ourselves and our loved ones survive in our own jungles. We need parents who believe in us and will never give up the connection; we need to know what works and what is ineffective; we need to understand trauma and dissociation; and we must have support.

Keynote Lecture by Rabbi YY Jacobson: Sunday, 2Iyar, April 23, Rabbi YY addressed anevent which was at the Beis Yaakov High School in Boro Park on 15th Avenue and 45th Streetto celebrate the Siyum Harambam. The year was 1984, when the Lubavitcher Rebbe, ztl, introduced a revolutionary project which would change the world. He sets his sights on the possibility of Klal Yisroel mastering the Rambams Mishneh Torah by instituting an annual cycle. Gedolei Yisroel from every denomination lauded the program throughout the years, seeing in it the potential for every Yid to master the entirety of Torah Shebal Peh which is covered in these fourteen volumes in a clear, concise, and organized style. Since that time, tens of thousands of Yidden throughout the world learn the daily Rambambringing the blessing of Torah into their lives. The one-perek-a-day track completes the Rambam every three years, while those who learn three perakim a day complete the entire Rambam every year. This sunday marks the beginning of the 43rd cycle of the 3-perek cycle, and the 15th cycle of the one-perek cycleas well as the siyum of the previous cycle.

Rabbi YY interviews Dr. Stephen Porges: Stephen W. Porges, Ph.D. is a distinguished University Scientist at Indiana University where he is the founding director of the Traumatic Stress Research Consortium. He is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina. He served as president of the Society for Psychophysiological Research and the Federation of Associations in Behavioral & Brain Sciences and is a former recipient of a National Institute of Mental Health Research Scientist Development Award. He has published more than 400 peer-reviewed papers across several disciplines including anesthesiology, biomedical engineering, critical care medicine, ergonomics, exercise physiology, gerontology, neurology, neuroscience, obstetrics, pediatrics, psychiatry, psychology, psychometrics, space medicine, and substance abuse. In 1994 he proposed the Polyvagal Theory, a theory that links the evolution of the mammalian autonomic nervous system to social behavior and emphasizes the importance of the physiological state in the expression of behavioral problems and psychiatric disorders. The theory is leading to innovative treatments based on insights into the mechanisms mediating symptoms observed in several behavioral, psychiatric, and physical disorders. He is the author of The Polyvagal Theory: Neurophysiological foundations of Emotions, Attachment, Communication, and Self-regulation (Norton, 2011), The Pocket Guide to the Polyvagal Theory: The Transformative Power of Feeling Safe, (Norton, 2017), co-editor of Clinical Applications of the Polyvagal Theory: The Emergence of Polyvagal-Informed Therapies (Norton, 2018) and author of Polyvagal Safety: Attachment, Communication, Self-Regulation (Norton 2021). Dr. Porges is the creator of a music-based intervention, the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), which is used by therapists to improve social engagement, language processing, and state regulation, as well as to reduce hearing sensitivities.
