Welcome to The Rational View, where we apply evidence and critical thinking to the biggest issues of our time. Trump declared on election night, "I'm not going to start wars. I'm going to stop wars," while warning that a victory by Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate at the time, would lead to "World War III." He has repeatedly referred to himself as the "President of Peace" and is obviously unable to deal with the fact that President Obama got a Nobel Prize. This comes as no surprise as he has been unable to follow through on his promise to end the Ukraine war on day one, and day two and all the other days of his presidency, while he threatens to forcibly annex allied countries like Greenland and Canada. Groups seeking quid pro quo favours have since showered him with second hand peace prizes including FIFA and Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado who presented her 2023 Nobel Peace Prize medal to U.S. President Donald Trump during a White House meeting to recognize his support for her country's freedom hoping to trade for a return to democratic elections. After that, he sent US forces to attack Iran. What motivated the sudden change of heart and total flip flop from election promises? Today's episode tackles this rapidly unfolding and deeply consequential question: The United States is now at war with Iran. What led to this? Is it legal? What are the claimed strategic goals and do they make sense? And—controversially—is this connected to domestic political distractions like the Epstein files? Time for A Rational View.

A U.S. Tomahawk cruise missile struck a girls' school in the Iranian city of Minab during strikes on an adjacent Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps naval base. The attack killed at least 165-175 people, most of them children inside the school. The Pentagon has launched a formal investigation into the incident. President Trump was asked about the strike in multiple press interactions, where he suggested that Iran could be responsible and stated he did not know enough details while noting that the Pentagon is investigating. Iranian authorities have condemned the attack as a deliberate war crime carried out by the United States and Israel. No final conclusions from the ongoing Pentagon investigation have been publicly released. WE ALSO COVER: 172 million barrels of oil released from reserve. Trump declares victory in Iran. Medical professionals and sports journalists have zeroed in on a problem that appears to affect women athletes at higher rates than men: ACL injuries. There's another trend in the data, as the Minnesota Star Tribune and New York Times recently pointed out. High school athletes are tearing their ACLs at higher rates than before, especially in girls' sports. A study by the National ACL Injury Coalition suggested the rates of serious knee injuries increased 32.3 percent in girls' sports over the 15 years between 2007 and 2022. That's almost double the 14.5 percent increase the study found in boys' sports. The ACL is a ligament that helps hold the knee in place. An injury usually means the end of an athlete's season; sometimes, it means surgery. For young athletes, it can also have particular social, emotional and economic impacts. For more, MPR News host Nina Moini talked with Jill Monson, lead physical therapist for the Complex Knee Injury Clinic at Twin Cities Orthopedics in Eagan.

On this week's episode of The 1 Girl Revolution Podcast, we welcome Melissa Jones — educator, speaker, and founder of Girls Positivity Club, a movement empowering girls to build confidence, self-worth, and leadership skills through connection, mentorship, and positivity. Melissa's story — and the inspiration behind Girls Positivity Club — began with her own experiences as a young girl struggling to find confidence and belonging. Those early challenges came full circle years later as a teacher, when she saw so many of her students facing the very same struggles. She knew something had to change — so she started Girls Positivity Club to create safe, empowering spaces where girls could lift one another up, find their voices, and realize their own power and potential. What began as a small after-school club has now grown into a movement — reaching schools and communities across the country and inspiring a generation of confident, compassionate young women. Melissa's work is rooted in one simple but transformative belief: when girls believe in themselves, they can change the world. This episode is part of our Every Woman, Every Girl campaign — celebrating the truth that every woman and every girl has power, purpose, and a story worth telling. And Melissa's mission and story beautifully embodies that message. In this episode, you'll hear: ✨ How Melissa's own life experience and experiences as an educator inspired her to start Girls Positivity Club; ✨ The challenges girls face today — and how community and mentorship can change everything; ✨ Why confidence, self-talk, and belonging are essential for every girl's development; ✨ The ripple effect of empowering girls — at home, in school, and in the world; ✨ How teachers, parents, and mentors can help girls rise and lead with confidence; ✨ And so much more!
