We're picking up where we left off last week as this episode focuses on night two of the two show run from Pearl Jam's shows in Atlantic City in 2005. High octane performances, an intimate crowd and a Bruce Springsteen cover happen in night one, but what could possibly top that? A song debut from an unreleased album, Stone Gossard grabbing the mic and an appearance from a spaceman? Those three things could help the cause. The band kicked off this show with a dynamite version of Present Tense and from there it just kept getting better and better. Immortality impacts the crowd with an intense ending, Not For You has a fun new section improved, they let Stone sing even though the crowd wanted to drop the Leash and we get the live debut of Avocado track Gone seven months before the album came out. We will spend a lengthy amount of time on the debut due to it's uniqueness in the catalog. The song was written that weekend in Ed's hotel room and featured no other band member's accompanyment. So how was it able to be as impactful as it was considering the elements? You'll find out in the show! Also, we see a rock legend join up with the band for Rockin' In The Free World here, and since we have finished up the North American run of our tour, we'll spend some time discussing some of the OTOTOs played at Ohana Festival. While we give Whale Song some love here, the episode was recorded before the band broke out Gremmie Out Of Control on night two. So perhaps you'll hear a voice talk about it real quick at a very opportune time! This episode begins a two-part series where we dig into the shows at the Borgata in Atlantic City from 2005. These shows were unique for the band because of the small venue size holding a little over 2,500 people, but also due to the general admission area which was something that they had not done very often since the Roskilde tragedy in 2000. After a year of touring in Canada and testing out new songs and setlists on the road, this show has it's fair share of surprises and rarities for the time. Recently we saw Porch get played as the second song in Wrigley Field, and we'll get to talk about that when it comes to this show. Songs like Sad, Low Light and Man Of The Hour are in their early infancy, so we'll chat about how those songs were continuing to evolve at the time into the big performances that we're familiar with today. We'll dive into excellent versions of Save You, Crazy Mary and Rearviewmirror as well. Javier joins in on this episode and will talk about some of the different things you're hearing at these shows including Cameron playing with an open snare and Mike's guitar featured behind in the mix. And we'll talk about our favorite performances of Dark Matter songs from this tour! Cary is a baby scoop-era adoptee who was born in a Florence Crittenton Home in Atlantic City NJ in 1964. Her first mother was 19 years old and was forced to relinquish her baby like many young mothers of those times. Cary had a great upbringing in a family that loved her and never made her feel othered. In her early 30s she reunited with her birth mother and then her birth father. The reunions went well for the most part, but some family members that started out enthusiastic soon became clearly uninterested in staying connected.Even in the best situations, adoption is incredibly complex. In recent years after the death of her older, adopted, sister, Cary has been better understanding just how complex it can be. Her relationship with her sister was great—as long as she was a child. It became more complicated and difficult as adult years went by. Losing her sister, and therefore her best connection to the parents who raised her and whom she loved dearly, has brought up a lot of adoption-related issues that she hadn't really tuned into before. What she would like people to understand most is that an adoptee can be both happy with who they grew up with, how they were raised, and the life they've had, while also feeling sad and having complicated feelings about the loss they started life with, and the impact adoption has had on them.To skip ahead to the interview go to timestamp: 13:01Relinquished: The Politics of Adoption and the Privilege of American Motherhood, by Gretchen SissonRESOURCES for AdopteesS12F Helping AdopteesGregory Luce and Adoptees Rights LawJoe Soll & other adoptee resourcesFireside Adoptees Facebook GroupReckoning with the Primal Wound DocumentaryHiraeth Hope & HealingMoses FarrowNational Suicide Prevention Lifeline – 1-800-273-8255 OR Dial or Text 988.NAMI Hotline at 1-800-950-NAMI (6264) or email them at info@nami.orgAdoptee Therapist DirectoryIf you want to support our show, visit our Patreon Page.Thank you to our Patreons! New Jersey has a special place in the history of Ween. Hailing from just across the Delaware River, Ween basically got their start in Jersey, in now defunct but once iconic venues such as City Gardens in Trenton, and Court Tavern in New Brunswick. Before they were big, there was Jersey! Given this rich history, it might be surprising to learn that they hadn't played in Jersey in 12 years. Damn, that's a long time without Taylor Ham! But that all changed last month when Ween descended upon The Borgata in Atlantic City. Playing like they had house money, Ween rocked out yet another epic two-night stand. Weencast was there and we lived to tell the tale! The second night started off loud and proud with a rock block that included You Fucked Up, Nan, and The Grobe. Nothing too rare here, but it was pretty cool because this was only the eighth time You Fucked Up was used as a set opener. After a hard rocking opening, they eased into the show with some jammed out commons from Chocolate and Cheese like Can't Put My Finger On It and Roses are Free. Nothing too fancy, but some sweet bait for the less initiated fans among us. Things started to really get brown when Ween laid out a trifecta of rarities: Oh My Dear (I Must Be Falling In Love), Stay Forever, and I Wuz Nuthin'. I think I've seen those live a grand total of 7 times, and in particular, Oh My Dear was played live for only the seventh time ever. It also featured Aaron with some superior solos on the guitar, and that is always a pleasure for sure! Much like the previous night, Ween played music from all across their discography. Unlike the previous night, this night featured two songs from the Friends EP. Classic tunes that just don't get too much airtime, if you ask me. Light Me Up, and then a little bit later Got To Put The Hammer Down, showed that the Friends EP is a force to be reckoned with. And I can't be stopped when I break out my dueling hammers dance for Got To Put The Hammer Down! It's smashing to say the least! It was still early in the evening, after they finished off a slow and sombrous Albino Sunburned Girl, when they laid down one of the absolute highlights of the evening: Beacon Light with a ferocious 3-minute Deaner solo. Jammy pacs were strapped on and we were gone! The evening was beginning to get a little late, when they once again blew our brains away with a trifecta of rarities: this time El Camino, Put The Coke On My Dick, and The Enabler. El Camino included some spontaneous Borgata related lyrics as well as a White Rabbit tease. Put The Coke On My Dick was hilarious, as you'll hear about on our episode, because Claude had tons of family at the show and his moment to shine was all about coke and dicks and cocks. As he said, “It's a living!” The Enabler is probably my favorite Ween cover and it is such an amazing and epic tune. I also love me some Dave, so it was a delight when he got to come up to mic. In the lead up to the end of the main set, we were then treated to another amazing highlight: Claude on an epic 7-minute drum interlude for Never Squeal on the Pusher. At one point, he even dropped his stick, but just kept going bongo style. Rock on Claude, you legend! Well, I don't want to spill all the tea here because you should check out our episode! Saturday night was another big time throw down from Ween. The first night started off a little slow, but next thing I knew, I was blasted off to space with rarities such as Get A Little Taste of You, Now I'm Freaking Out, and The Argus. With Z-Rock Hawaii in the house this early, I just knew shit was going to get even browner. And it did. Deaner shredded an absolutely intense Johnny on the Spot, and then I was treated to the double country delight of Japanese Cowboy followed by I Don't Want To Leave You on the Farm. Gener, who was en fuego all weekend, then broke out the acoustic for a quartet of rarities, including my first ever Hey There Fancy Pants, and my second ever I'll Miss You. My mind was basically already blown, and the show was only half over. Aaron put away the acoustic and after jamming out the fan favorite but common, Voodoo Lady, they proceeded to one of the top highlights of the evening, Bumblebee. This hard-rocking rarity has only been played 12 times, it was my first time hearing it live, and it hadn't been played at all since 2001, when it was brought out one time only, for the live performance of God Ween Satan at John and Peter's. Talk about Boognish bliss! A short while later, they raised the stakes once again, breaking out the ultra-rare, The Rift. The Rift has only been played live six times. Not only that, but Mickey invited guitar monster, The Reverend B'ill, to sit in on the song. Bill Fowler has been sitting in and otherwise jamming with Ween here and there since the early 90's, and when he's up there with Deaner, there's some serious guitar god synergy going on. So this is a fantastic version of The Rift, and also the only time B'ill ever sat in on it live. Just when you thought it couldn't get any browner, Deaner launched the band into Suckin The Blood From The Devil's Dick. It was my virgin experience with the song, and it left me…shook. After a little Big Jilm, they then launched into the sweet one-two punch of Laura followed by Demon Sweat. Aaron really shined here, on Laura he did a little dueling guitars with Mickey, and then for Demon Sweat he plopped himself down on the piano. Both songs were awesome and rare, but it was especially freaking cool to see Gener taking things to another level and being totally in his element. Viva la Ween! Friday night was one for the record books. Welcome to the fourth mini-episode of Attendance Bias! Mini-episodes feature a breakdown of a single song or jam from a show that I’ve attended. I’ll pick a song or jam for any given reason—it was the highlight of the show, it meant something special to me, it's widely renown--who knows? Mini-episodes are posted on a bi-weekly basis in between full episodes of Attendance Bias, when a guest and I will go over a full Phish show.Today's episode focuses on "Twist," played on 11/1/13 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This show was the second of three nights of the band's 2013 Halloween run. The vibe going into the venue was strange. The previous night's Wingsuit set really knocked us off our rocker, as this was the first time that Phish did not play a full album by another band for Halloween. Rather, they played an entire set--80 minutes long--of new material. Even though the third set of 10/31 was excellent, things didn't quite feel the same afterwards."Twist" from the next night changed all that for me. It felt as though Phish, and the audience, had a lot of steam to blow off after the tension of the Halloween set, and "Twist" blew that steam right off. It has everything: exploration, triumphant bliss-rock, "Under Pressure" quotes, and abstract dissonance. It's since become one of my favorite jams.AUD recording for this episode: Twist

A Pittsburgh, Pa native Kevin Cronin became interested in the culinary arts at an early age, inspired by the women of his family gathering in the kitchen during holidays to prepare meals from scratch. The food prepared consisted mostly of hunters’ stews and game meats based on regional American cuisine, from smoking and drying meats, to the eclectic and sometimes strange cuisine of the Shaker Communities of Ohio, to the pickling and preserving techniques of the Pennsylvania Dutch. Chef Kevin has had unique experiences from working with several talented chefs in New Jersey, Philadelphia, New York, and Costa Rica. In New York, Kevin was employed by Chef Wesley Wobles at the famed Chelsea eatery, Porter’s. There Kevin refined his creative skills by working in a rather eccentric atmosphere. After his stint at W. Wobles, Kevin spent the summer at home in Southern New Jersey, working as the Executive Chef of The Seagate Landing in Avalon. After the busy summer season, Kevin returned to New York City and began working at Wild Edibles. He was groomed to eventually run the establishment as Executive Chef. Employing his uniquely formulated skill set, Chef Kevin designs delicious menus with only the freshest ingredients. At the Iron Room, Cronin teamed with Mark Callazo, an entrepreneur who fell in love with all things Atlantic City and set out to open a restaurant and speakeasy that celebrated his love for food, drink and Atlantic City's past, present and future. Mark enlisted Kevin Cronin as Executive Chef, and his goal was to bring globally inspired new American cuisine that focused on using sustainable, fresh local ingredients that embraced the season. The Iron Room team built what has become one of the most impressive wine and spirit collections in the country, hand selecting each bottle for it's unique qualities. The Iron Room has become Atlantic City's go to destination for all things craft, amazing service, and world class dining. Chef Kevin was kind enough to host the Mulletcast with food and conversation for this on location podcast.
Mark discusses the 13th Annual Laugh for Sight that starred comedian giants Robert Klein, Jim Gaffigan, Richie Redding and more that donated their side splitting humor for a night benefitting degenerative retinal diseases. Mark has been the host for 13 years and he shares highlights of this pivotal event. www.laughforsight.com Why disclosing all aspects of oneself is vital for your partner to know, accept and love you. Don’t shortchange yourself, your partner or your relationship by “sparing them” or thinking they won’t see you the same way – be candid so you can be 100% you – the great, the not so great and ugly! Hear how Mark was floored by his stay at The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City NJ to coming off a perfect soccer season – how Mark coached a loosing team. Have Mark speak at your company or organization to increase morale, productivity, confidence and more. Mark also has riveting talks for students (K-12) and college on overcoming adversity, anti-bullying/anti-teasing, mental health, drugs/alcohol, celebrating differences, self-entitlement and more. All of Mark’s talks are from his vast life experience.
