In the United States, over 200 mass shootings have already occurred in 2022. Of those, 22 have been in schools. Two of the most recent and notable shootings occurred in a Buffalo supermarket and a Texas elementary school. This week the ladies tackle the topic of gun control and what can be done, if anything, to change things. They also give history and context for the 2nd amendment that some Americans hold so dear. Some attempt to frame the idea of gun control as an all or nothing endeavor. Listen as they discuss ways that the government could take immediate action and how citizens can hold politicians feet to the fire. This week's Bible Breakdown is Genesis, 34. This week, the ladies discuss the current job market and the effects the pandemic has had on it. Our mentalities were being forced into a direction that a lot of people probably would not have gone in. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of us realized that we could either survive off of being a one income household, start our own business, or we deserve much more from our employers. Everywhere you go, no matter where you live, there is a "now hiring" sign. Nichole and Sherene dive deep on why they think this is happening and what this could mean for the future. This week's Bible Breakdown is Genesis, Chapter 33. Jacob and Esau reunite. Can you feel the love? Roe v. Wade is at risk of being overturned by the Supreme Court. Currently, the landmark decision allows for "Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution provides a fundamental 'right to privacy' that protects a pregnant woman's liberty to choose whether to have an abortion." It allows states to balance between rights of the women and the rights of the fetus. Some states will ban all forms of abortion if this is overturned since the right to choice is not a law. This week, Sherene and Nichole discuss the ramifications of the loss of body autonomy and women's right to choose. Bible breakdown for this week is Genesis 32. Jacob heads home but is terrified of what will happen as his brother Esau heads his way with 400 soldiers. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ohlawdpodcast/support

This week, Sherene and Nichole break down the difference between "Class privilege" and "White privilege". They aren't the same despite the results appearing to be so. Having white privilege and recognizing it does not make a person racist. Class privilege is not limited to whites, but due to systemic issues it tends to mostly be whites. Both types of privilege exist because of historic, enduring racism and systemic biases. In general, white privilege does not suggest that white people do not, or have never, struggled. Just as class privilege doesn't mean that person cannot end up poor. However, white privilege and class privilege should be viewed as built-in advantages, separate from one's level of effort. For our purposes, white privilege is defined as having greater access to power and resources than people of color in the same situation. And class privilege is defined as the tangible or intangible unearned advantages enjoyed by someone of higher class status. By the end of the episode, you will hopefully see that recognizing privilege is the first step in using it to help others who do not have it. For more information about white privilege, the following article was a good read: https://www.learningforjustice.org/magazine/fall-2018/what-is-white-privilege-really This week's Bible Breakdown is Genesis, 30. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ohlawdpodcast/support
This week, Sherene and Nichole discuss the five love languages. Not everyone receives and expresses love in the same way. Knowing your partners love language can lead to a more engaging and bonded relationship. Five love languages: 1)Words of affirmation: desire spoken affection, praise, and compliments. Criticism and discouraging words hurt you more than others. 2)Acts of service: desires a partner who willingly eases their workload. For example, a partner who does the dishes before you get to it or makes you breakfast in bed. But laziness and broken promises can make you feel uncared for. 3)Receiving gifts: desires thoughtful gift rather than generic gifts. This love language isn't necessarily materialistic. It could be as simple as a person getting you your favorite snack. 4)Quality time: desires undivided attention. A person who is actively listening and truly present rather than looking at their phone. You feel unloved without one-on-one time. 5)Physical touch: kisses, hand holding, hugs, and other touches show love. Lack of touch doesn't allow for this person to feel a sense of safety or warmth in the relationship. This week the ladies discuss "colorism". It is a topic that is avoided in the black community but if we can't discuss or admit it exists, then we can't fix it. Have you experienced colorism? In school, in your family, noticed it in the media? The idea that lighter skin is better has been a thorn in the world's side. Sherene and Nichole cover everything from their experiences with catcalling by skin tone to the paper bag test. Yes, it is the colonizers fault. Colorism is a world wide phenomena. So, being aware of it's existence can lead to fixing the problem. This weeks's Bible Breakdown is Genesis, 29. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ohlawdpodcast/support

This week, Sherene and Nichole talk about the supreme court hearing of Ketanji Brown Jackson. Judge Jackson has been subjected to a barrage of conservative grandstanding as they try to paint a picture of bias that doesn't exist in Judge Jackson's impeccable record. When confirmed, Judge Jackson will be the most qualified Supreme Court Judge to survive as a Justice. And oh boy are they pissed that the most qualified Justice will be a black women. It isn't the first time that a black woman had to be beyond outstanding to gain the same recognition as her average white counterparts. In this episode, the ladies give more examples of female black excellence and how it is constantly tainted by racism and hatred. In 2002, Halle Berry famously became the first (and only) black female actor to win lead actress Oscar for the movie "Monsters Ball". A movie in which she had an explicit sex scene with a white man. Despite her talent and the longevity of her acting career, her nudity was credit for success in the public eye. Only 8 black women have ever won supporting actress Oscars. Do we really think that's because black women just aren't talented enough, or maybe the hashtag "Oscars so white" began for a reason. Michelle Obama went to Princeton and Harvard. And before becoming First Lady, she was also a lawyer. Yet as First Lady, she endured comments about her needing to loose a few pounds, weighing too much, strikingly ungracious, doesn't look like a first lady, that she is actually a man, an ape in heels, a poor gorilla, and President Obama's baby mama. Yet, Melania Trump who had 1 year in college and who's claim to fame was modeling (including nudes), was treated like royalty for no other reason than her skin tone. How do you know it wasn't political party affiliation, you may ask. Condolezza Rice, a Republican, first female African-American National Security Advisor (2001) and Secretary of State (2005) was depicted has a "house nigga". Have you ever thought about what the American education system is preparing our children for? In this week's episode, the ladies discuss how kindergarten through 12th grade isn't geared towards truly educating children. The school system has become a corporate training facility. They discuss how students no longer learn life skills (cooking, banking, entrepreneurship). They also discuss how classrooms are structured like corporations. -masses do work (students) -take orders from supervisor(teachers) -who reports to hire management(principles) Join them as they cover the acceptance of the capitalist class system, the dismissal of those who need additional assistance, and how testing (aka. the ability to regurgitate standardized information) is stifling free thought. Unfortunately, there is no Bible breakdown this week due to technical issues. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ohlawdpodcast/support
In this week's episode, the ladies tackle the "gay agenda." This is a religious right term that tries to make the idea of inclusion and representation of the LGBT community a negative thing. Things like gay representation in music, television, and movies is something that we need more of in this country. Everyone deserves to feel seen and heard. The ladies also discuss the new Florida "Don't say gay" bill. This bill is masked as parents trying to have a say in their children's education, but it allows parents to sue school districts for having conversations about sexuality and sexual orientation. It also would force teachers to report any students to their parents if they come out as a part of the LGBTQIA+.Join the ladies as they discuss some of the ramifications of what both issues mean in our society. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ohlawdpodcast/support

It was a busy week in the news starting with the shooting of Jacob Blake by police, followed by the shooting of protesters by 17 year old Kyle. If you haven’t heard of “White Rage”, then add it to your book club list because it is a book that everyone must read. Thank you FPL for sucking and sending Nichole back to paperback reading roots. Sherene discovered a whole new reality show diaspora of black women in the Real Housewives of Potomac. We also discuss Trinidadian Islamic State recruitment and fallout, as well as, musicians putting Trump on the do not play list, before getting to the topic of the week: Women Empowerment and Sex Work. This episode was recorded before the WAP (by Cardi B and Megan the Stallion) music video controversy exploded. But it truly serves as a perfect example of what we speak to in the episode. Society needs to stop picking and choosing when it is okay for women to embrace their sensuality, even in regards to sex work. There is nothing wrong with a woman profiting from her sensuality as long as it is concentual. Finally, we cover Genisis 4. Trump is still on the war path against undocumented immigrants in the census despite the constitution, but we are still better off than the three women sentenced to two years in an Egyptian prison for dancing on TikTok.If you haven't gotten mesmerized into thinking it would only be a few minutes, to then realize that it is now midnight and you have to be awake in a few hours, then you haven't done TIKTOK. It is truly an entertaining and yet inspiring app. Yes, people dance and do silly things, but you can also find easy to digest tips and tutorials. As well as, use the app to bypass the mainstream media to get realtime videos out to the masses or just to prank the president. LOL.Bible Breakdown for this week is Genesis chapter 3.
