ABOUT THE EPISODE ALPHECCA PERPETUA finally decides to go for broke and try "professional" to see how it'll get on, but still fails miserably and yet stays insufferably true to the podcast's brand. She finally follows the script and is now deluded that she has leveled up. She burps, she warms her vocals real time, she meditates, she sings, then she rants. And then she rambles on to corelate moist chocolate cakes to Justin Timberlake, Neuroscience, Adolescent Brains, Politically Savvy Women, Sociopaths, and more nonsense. She has now reached sentience on how supersaturated her personality is, and has convinced herself that the world is flat. And that she may be eating cows, flies, and horses for breakfast. So please take heed: DO NOT LISTEN. Podcast Producer Alphecca Perpetua shares her sentiments on the reality of the nonexistent Filipino identity dating back to the three principal peoples of pre-historic and ancient Philippines: the Negritos, the Malays, and the Indones, who already greatly differ in phenotypes; from skin color to survival behaviour. On the other hand, Resident Historian Amiel "Cortz" Cortes paralleled the ideology of "The China Man" being well-grounded to their Chinese identity and ancestry, same as Jewish communities, while modern-day Filipinos would easily adapt to different cultures and practices. And also the supposed issue behind Andrés Bonifacio's scheme to use José Rizal's name during KKK meetings that led to the latter's eventual demise. In other words, "Why, Andrés? Why!" Podcast Producer Alphecca Perpetua asked Resident Historian Amiel "Cortz" Cortes if the 1986 EDSA Revolution and the 2022 Philippine Elections results were both contrasting historical events, and found that the two weren't as different and weren't as ironic from 16th to 19th-century Las Islas Filipinas after all; with cities, municipalities, and towns still ruled and governed by the same Principalía (or ruling Mestizo Class) now simply known as the "Politician-Elect". He added, "I was using these families as examples that not much has changed in the Philippine society since the Spanish period. How our society is run is simply dictated by the choices of a very few wealthy elite families. The Principalía of the 1800s pretty much dictated how their local communities were governed. Fast forward to today, we are still slaves to the choices of a few wealthy families who may or may not come from the Principalía of old. This idea came from Alfred McCoy in his book, 'An Anarchy of Families: State and Family in the Philippines.' A must-read especially in these [trying] times." And while heavily stationed in the Luzon-Manila area, the KKK started recruiting members in the Visayas region; primarily around the Iloilo and Negros area due to the Mestizo's wealthy network and connections brought by large profits of estates and plantations, which eventually led to the recruitment of Hiligaynon revolutionary leader Lt.-Gen Pantaleón "León Kilat" Villegas to spread word of an upcoming rebellion on the highly urbanized Cebuano shores that would soon be known as the bloody battle of Tres de Abril. Instead, he emphasizes that it was mostly led by fellow Mestizos and other wealthy individuals; that most—if not all—"true peasants and indios" were minding their own businesses: fishing, farming, and gossiping. Although, the general populace already had the idea of a lingering independence fight as news about the Mexican War of Independence had earlier reached the Philippine shores. ODETTE was a powerful CAT-5 tropical cyclone that hit the Philippines last December 16, 2021. Also known as "Rai," its damages to the Philippines surmounted to a combined total of $1.02bn. One of the highly urbanized cities that got heavily affected and disrupted was Cebu City. And with over 1M residents, electricity and running water were scarce and rationed; also disrupting food, gas, and other supplies distribution until March 2022. The digital working class was also thrown into disarray, whose work heavily depended on connection: electricity and internet; delaying projects to its cancelation while in the middle of a COVID-19 pandemic. OMICRON is a COVID-19 variant as a result of mutation that multiplies 70x faster, but is less severe than its previous strains after a 3rd shot of COVID-19 vaccine or booster. YOLANDA was the deadliest Pacific cyclone that hit the Philippines on November 3, 2013. With an est. damage of $2.2bn, its damages to Tacloban, Leyte was the most destructive with effects likened to a tsunami. Also known as "Haiyan," it also affected Cebu and Bohol two weeks after the 7.2. magnitude Bohol earthquake on October 15, 2013. As an effect, this halted their free-to-air (FTA) terrestrial broadcasting services (e.g., newscasting) in the Philippines, which included the remotest places in the Visayas and Mindanao regions. GERIATRIC MILLENNIAL is an oxymoron for a special micro-generation born in the early 1980s that are comfortable with both analog and digital forms of communication. It was first popularized by author and leadership expert Erica Dhawan through her article, "Why the Hybrid Workforce of the Future Depends on the 'Geriatric Millennial'" last April 22, 2021 on the Medium.com platform. According to UrbanDictionary.com, a geriatric millennial is on the cusp/brink (of social extinction), and are the oldest "breed" of millennial "out there," but still acts like a "true millennial". On the TikTok platform, everyone born after 1998 is now considered "old" by Gen Z content creators and influencers. NET WORTH is the value of all assets minus the total of all liabilities. He graduated with a degree in AB History at the University of San Carlos, Philippines in 2015, and worked as a Program Officer for Research at the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation where he contributed as a Principal Researcher, Indexer, Editorial Assistant, and Field Researcher for various local and regional events, exhibits, academic publications, and projects. THE VIRGIN MARY SYMBOLISM. In 1986, it was believed that the Lady of Fátima—the Catholic title of Mary that's based on the Marian apparitions of three shepherd children at Fátima, Portugal in 1917—"miraculously mediated" a peaceful revolution against former Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos Sr, where demonstrators largely consisted of Roman Catholic nuns who offered flowers to soldiers while praying the rosary. Two years later, a "Holy Ground" marker known as the EDSA Shrine was built as an act of thanksgiving to the Virgin Mary. In 2019, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts of the Philippines declared the church as an "Important Cultural Property". PHILIPPINES, A MATRIARCHAL NATION. Stemming from pre-colonial social structures, the Philippines already allowed equal importance among kinships, where women inherited property, commanded as religious leaders, composed the military forces, and led villages in the absence of a male heir. Today, Filipino women still contribute to the decision-making process within families, businesses, and the country. The Philippines currently ranks 7th in the Gender-Equality List for Southeast and East Asia in the 2022 SDG Gender Index by Equal Measures 2030, with an overall score of 69.8 just after Malaysia and Thailand. THE MANILA GALLEON. For two and a half centuries, Spanish trading ships sailed between Acapulco and Manila that brought cargoes of luxury items such as tobacco, spices, and porcelain to the Americas. During the Spanish empire, priests and missionaries were mobile. And also aboard the galleons were deportees, prisoners, exiles, and among other undesirables from the colonies; making a diverse variety of crewmen traveling between Spain, Peru, and the Philippines. THE BATTLE OF TRES DE ABRIL. In March 1898, Filipino revolutionary leader Lt.-Gen. Pantaleón "León Kilat" Villegas agreed to revolt against the Spaniards with the Cebuano Katipuneros (KKK); plotted on April 10th, an Easter Sunday. After the Spaniards caught wind of the scheduled rebellion, armed with bolos (machete) and some guns, 6,000 revolutionists fought a week earlier on Palm Sunday, April 3rd, and won; now known as the 'Battle of Tres de Abril'. Amiel "Cortz" Cortes) An Excerpt: Season 1, Episode 02, Rated-PG13 "Lay Back" | Music by Brian Withycombe SPONSORED BY: Studio Historias, Broadcasting & Multimedia Productions www.show.studiohistorias.com As Told By PekPek, Mug Collections by @alpheccaperpetua www.instagram.com/AsToldByPekPek AMIEL "Cortz" CORTES is a Cebu-based Historical Researcher & Consultant. The PEOPLE POWER REVOLUTION (also known as the "EDSA Revolution") was a series of nonviolent political demonstrations in February 1986 as a civil resistance campaign against violence and electoral fraud under the 21-year Marcos regime. EDSA is a limited-access, circumferential highway in the Philippines. It is an acronym for "Epifanio de los Santos Avenue," and is considered as the longest and most congested highway in Metro Manila; stretching at about 23.8 km in length. FERDINAND EMMANUEL EDRALIN MARCOS SR was the 10th and 11th president of the Philippines, as well as the 3rd Prime Minister, from 1965 to 1986. He ruled under Martial Law from 1972 until 1981, but retained powers as the country's dictator until the People Power/EDSA Revolution in 1986. The TASADAY TRIBE is a controversial indigenous group living in the Lake Sebu area in Mindanao, Philippines, and are considered to belong to the Lumad group, the Austronesian indigenous peoples in the southern part of the country. The controversy started in 1971 when Manuel Elizalde Jr of the Presidential Assistant on National Minorities (PANAMIN)—a former Philippine government agency created to protect the interests of indigenous peoples—initially reported to the Smithsonian Institution to inform the world of an isolated group of primitive hunter-gatherers living in caves. The report garnered so much global attention that it attracted various specialists, professionals, and scientists to conduct preliminary investigative and academic work. In 1972, the Marcos administration then established a 19,000-hectare rainforest reservation that surrounded the caves of the Tasaday tribe. Two years later, visitors were then required to obtain special permits; therefore, prohibiting further interaction. In the aftermath of the EDSA Revolution in 1986, Swiss anthropologist and journalist Oswald Iten, among others, debunked the existence of the "Stone Age" cave dwellers when Tasaday tribesmen confessed that they were, in fact, a mixed group of Manobos and Tbolis lumads who acted as cave-dwelling, stone-tool using primitives in exchange for land and money as promised by PANAMIN.
