BEERS: The boys are on the move again! Will is back from his southern excursion of Charleston and rates Maser, a New England IPA that held its own despite its southern geography. We debate how NEIPA's from the south should be treated - should they be held in the same regard we hold them from our home states? Jake, fresh off trips to St. Louis and Louisville, had a fair share of beer this past week, and rates Upland Brewing's Barrel-Aged Peach Sour Ale he had at their taproom in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Honorable mentions go to Bud Select, fresh on tap at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, and a Charleston favorite in Edmunds Oast. BUSINESS (30:00): AI: everyone's favorite topic. But this year, it's becoming less of a buzzword and more of a reality. So, how can we use AI for our advantage now, and how are some of the biggest brands across the world using it? We bring in Christopher Parisi, President at Trailblaze Marketing and host of the AI Wave podcast, to break it all down for us. We talk about everything from ChatGPT, to "Terminator-level" capabilities, to replacing post-production with AI. Chris also takes us through his journey of how he got to Bryant, a key moment in his life that led him to pivot from accounting to study marketing, and his work with the RI Small Business Coalition to unlock millions of dollars in small business aid. BALLS: Money is flying around in the sports at an unprecedented rate, and the most recent events are no exception. Kylian Mbappe, French soccer phenom, was offered nearly $1 billion to negotiate with Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal. Justin Herbert became the highest paid quarterback in NFL history at over $52 million per year. Jaylen Brown signed a super-max extension of $60 million, accomplishing the same feat across the entire NBA. What is going on and why is money being dished out so fast? Who will be the next mega-deal player and what will their contract be? We finish with predicting some trades across the MLB, including if Shohei Ohtani ends up in a new team. The Bums hit pay dirt two-weeks in a row with S3:E0082, pulling on the top knot with a walk of the Chicago Bears 2023 freshly minted schedule, along with an 11-points of light fact extravaganza; the Bums' long-standing NHL/Chicago BlackeyeHawks embargo may be coming to an end, as the BeHs have a generational shot-on-goal in their #1 draft pick; the Pale Hose are finally snuffing out the injury bug to win a few games; Willson Contreas re-enters hollowed ground at 1060 W. Addison, but not as a catcher, and not with Cubbies; Huggy “Cracker Ass” Bear keeps it classy in West Virginia with another stupid, non-PC tirade; Bama's athletic department is in deep, maroon-colored shit; Paddy assigns the Bums some homework to chronicle our most hated franchises (Top 3) in each major sport category — some layups expected as well as some surprises; the curious case of Max Araiza keeps getting weirder; RIP to members of the sporting cemetery as Vida Blue and Danny Crum pass on to the other side. The ponytail chapter flows with another glorious beer review, this time at the hands of Upland Brewing in Bloomington, IN, featuring “Campside” (5.4% ABV), a crisp, subtly bitter pale ale with a balanced malt character; Camp Lucy coins another memory making moniker; all the fucking poli-crooks are getting indicted; an interpretation of “Next thing you know, we won't be able to call it the White House”; Rocky re-Wires; and close with an interesting take The Bud Light Wars by way of Boystown. All of this and immeasurable value — don't miss out.Recorded May 11th, 2023 at B.O.M. northwest headquarters ‘The Eagle's Nest' in Chicago, IL USA.

Do you know something that we're all currently doing? Breathing. It's something we rarely actively think about, but it turns out that there are ways to improve our technique- by breathing through our nose instead of our mouths, or by taking deeper slower breaths. Well we're talking about another basic subject today: buying groceries. This elementary practice seems simple on the surface, but just like breathing there are tactics that you can implement in order to save more money at the supermarket. The cost of food has always been a big deal as it's typically our third largest expense. But it's a bigger deal than ever with grocery prices up nearly 12% in December compared to a year ago. Inflation is making it more expensive to eat! Listen for how much you should be spending every month, our take on meal delivery services, and many other money saving tips that you can implement in order to butcher your grocery bill today! It’s been two years since we started selling the incredible taste treats from Upland Brewing! This week our buddy and Director of Sales Matt Mitchell ventures down from Indiana to share the latest news about the explosive growth Upland is enjoying. And he has some awesomeness for us to try: Campside Pale Ale, Juiced In Time NEIPA, and Found American Wild Ale! In the news, Eater Austin (thanks Alex!) provides a follow up from a story from last week, in that now Celis Brewery is no longer going up for auction after the owner files for bankruptcy. Next we have Bloomberg sharing the not very surprising news that Trump’s brewery tariff threat has craft beermakers sitting out, followed by The Boston Globe showing that for craft brewers, four-packs of cans have become the norm. Then it’s Patch reporting that drinking a beer is helping support the Detroit Zoo, and VinePair (thanks Steve!) lists the 10 most valuable beer brands in the world. We close the week with The Charlotte Observer revealing that one of the oldest beer-makers in Germany is planning a massive brewery in Charlotte! It’s quite clear from last week’s #caskquiz that you are NOT drinking any of the spiked seltzers this summer! This week we want to know what you think about a German brewer building a massive brewery in the US? Crazy? Or crazy like a fox? We so love hearing from you! Bryan and Jenny are in studio from M4 to continue the conversation and they bring Kyle from Upland Brewing to chat about Upland, their sour program, and we discuss topics about being on the road, choosing beers at events, and we even learn about a new style of beer thanks to our friends at Redline Brewing, Chicha Time which was a Mexican Style Corn Beer. Upland Brewing Co. celebrates 20 years and still pushing innovation Upland Brewing Co. was founded in 1998 in Bloomington, Indiana. They've grown over the years and opened several other taprooms as well as splitting the breweries for their clean and sour beers. We're joined this week by Adam Covey, Matt Wisley, and Eli Trinkle to talk about what's going on in Indiana beer. In addition to their clean beers like NE IPA and their popular Champagne Velvet Pilsner, Upland also offers a variety of sour beers and they've recently started experimenting with kombucha. Adam shares some info on their sensory training program, a very important part of keeping the same standards across all of their taprooms, and how it's important to be a part of the communities you serve. The lineup was outstanding: Prim Barrel-Aged Fruited Sour, Revive Barrel-Aged Fruited Sour, and the Crimson Wood-Aged Sour! You take a week off, the news piles up! We begin in The Atlantic where we learn that craft beer is the strangest, happiest economic story in America. Next up is The New York Times offering two big brewers joining the New England I.P.A. craze, followed by strategy+business and their question can craft beer continue to tap into growth? We wind up the week with Civil Eats’ visit to foraged craft beer and Wired’s dateline Jan. 24, 1935: first canned beer sold! We so love hearing from you! Hey Boos! Winter got you down? Why not relax with another Shorty from thespeakpodcast? We braved the weather and ventured out to Upland Brewing's taproom in Carmel. While there we warmed up with their seasonal release, Latitude Adjustment. This beer proves not all winter seasonals have to be spiced or malty. We round out the evening with one of staples when we visit Upland, Teddy Bear Kisses. Here's to the weekend! Let us help you celebrate with two beers followed by an embarrassing amount of "stream-of-consciousnesses" style rambling entirely unrelated to beer. Plus, Adam teaches us all about the animal kingdom. Ever wondered how long an iguana can hold its breath? Tune in to find out!We start things off with Marion the Agrarian from Upland Brewing. It's a farmhouse ale with some character. We then move on to Greenbush Brewing out of Detroit, Michigan and sample their Starchicken Shotgun IPA.And last, special shoutout to Jason Lee @nottherealearl. We read his tweet "live" on air!
It's Thanksgiving! And for those of you looking to enjoy spending quality time with family huddled around a computer or smart device listening to your favorite podcast, we're here for you. Or, sink the podcast up with the Macy's Day Parade and see what that sounds like (spoiler alert: they don't sync up).As is it Thanksgiving, we blew the budget and brought in special celebrity guest, Matt Muncy from Indiana on Tap. Instead of the traditional maize, he brought us booze from Cardinal Spirits Black Bear Bierschnaps and Walnut Nocino and Teddy Bear Kisses from Upland Brewing.Be forewarned, this is probably more fun than your normal Thanksgiving table conversation, but there is an equal amount of cross-talk and argument as well. Due to radio magic, there is however less swearing! We also let Adam "free-hand" his microphone. Note to self(es), never ever again.
