With the help of some great friends (Duffy, Bailey, Chris, Anna, Scott, Aryn, and Dani) they took down 6 different Central Waters Barrel Aged Anniversary Beers. Brian has each guest make a quick appearance on today's show to help discuss the tasting notes as they traveled back in time through these beers. Thanks, and as always… Cheers Beers! Things get a little crazy this week. Central Waters has released Why is the Cake Gone? We don't know but this bum barrel aged porter tastes like vanilla butter cream frosting. It's a heavenly experience. Surprisingly we've never had a Hoppin' Frog beer review on the show. It's always around and they do great beers. Gavel Slammer Monumental Dark Ale clocks in at a staggering 17.4% abv. It comes in a small can but packs a huge punch! #beer #craftbeer #drinks #hoppinfrog #darkale #porter #centralwaters

CONTENT NOTE: This episode contains discussion of sexual harassment and abuse. We interview author and podcaster Tiffany Bluhm about the depressing trend in the American church and the broader culture of ignoring, disbelieving, and actively silencing women who are sexually harassed or abused, often by church leaders themselves and often to protect institutions with oppressive cultures. Her book Prey Tell is a timely and important analysis of the sinister ways this trend is caused and perpetuated within the church and what we can do about it. If you've read and enjoyed the other recent books in the "Christian Thanos Gauntlet," you won't want to miss this one.The beer featured in the episode is 2020 Black Gold from Central Waters Brewery. The whiskey we were drinking during the interview (not featured) is Evan Williams Kentucky Straight Bourbon. The Milwaukee sushi restaurant Tiffany mentions is (probably) Spicy Tuna. Over the course of more than a decade with Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, Adam Greuel has shared the stage with some world-renowned acts, played some massive festivals, played throughout the country and even helped inspire a wonderful Central Waters beer. Before he was treating people throughout the Midwest (and far beyond) to his distinct bluegrass stylings, Greuel was teaching himself Grateful Dead tunes on guitar in central Wisconsin and sitting in on gigs with Loose Strings. Prior to HHG's Driftless Music Gardens Drive-In Tailgate show on July 3, My First Band host Tyler Maas got in touch with Greuel to learn more about the unique socially distant show and to see how he's holding up under quarantine. Over the course of the hour-long discussion, Greuel talked about making the most of this pause in the world's entertainment schedule, trying to focus on crucial social issues and seeking inspiration in isolation. Along the way, Greuel also gave a glimpse back at his musical start in Stevens Point, playing with the Taberna Twins in Wyoming, his stint with The Strange Machine in college, the origin of Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, his solo efforts, and his modern day work with projects like Rucksack Revolution and The High Hawks. My First Band is sponsored by Mystery Room Mastering. The show is edited by Jared Blohm. You can listen to My First Band on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify and wherever else you get podcasts. Music used in this show comes courtesy of Devils Teeth ("The Junction Street Eight Tigers"), Horseshoes & Hand Grenades ("Cheyanne") and Greuel ("Call It What It Is").

Podcast: A rare look at couples brewing from a husband and wife new to all-grain home-brewing. This episode features fellow home brewers Hayley Dickinson and David Setiawan, a happily married dynamic duo that brews together, as well as many other fun activities. As Hayley filled us in, she takes the assistant brewer role voluntarily and let's David do the heavy lifting, but they both contribute to the process creating an atmosphere of collaboration and passion that anyone would hope for when couples brewing. Our guests also talk about their own podcast, After We Take Out the Garbage, which is a fun spirited improve on random topics with random guests where just about everything is fair game. Taste Great! Of course, we all imbibe, first with two home brews from our guests which include a interesting Honey Wheat with some unexpected floral citrus notes and a delightful Rhubarb Pumpkin Ale featuring home grown additives. Both were clean and crisp, leaving a pleasant front-end bouquet and with a subtle after taste. Well done kids! Add beer tastings of a delicious traditional Oktoberfest from Central Waters and Pig Minds Briee Kraut, a non-traditional Oktoberfest that's malty, hoppy na d brings a little zing. Plus a rare sampling of Wisconsin Brewing Co's Bourbonified Depth Charge, a barrel-aged Scotch Ale caramelized with hot curling stones during a super-unique annual summer festival in Verona, WI that the Home Brew Rock Stars team has never missed. We also do some role reversal with our Beer Tag game and let our guests quiz the hosts. David and Haley did a great job to educate us on the origins of their questions, so right or wrong, we all gained some beer knowledge! As well, musical sound clips were featured from Shawn Smith, a Seattle-based songwriter and performer with several solo albums and tours to his credit, along with at least 3 bands (Brad, Satchel and Pigeonhead) of which all sport other Seattle legends, including Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard. Shawn is regarded as Seattle's best kept secret musician and more recently has hit some hard times so we encourage you all to support his beautiful mind and music HERE. Share this podcast with your friends (below) and send us your feedback for what you’d like us to talk about on the Home Brew Rock Stars Facebook page. What the hell was that? A fart? A stomach rumble? The amount of questionable noises coming from Junior’s chair this week are a little disconcerting, but at least Pixel Glory is here to save us! Pixel Glory is a deck-building game that sees the players form a team of wizards who draft spells to build their own “spell decks” in order to venture into a dungeon and defeat the bosses therein that threaten the lives of the villagers outside. The players work together to weaken the monsters, but only those who score the killing blow are able to score the victory points. The game is played until all monsters are defeated, and the player with the most points at the end wins. This week in brews, everyone but Schnell stays within Wisconsin. Nelson has Rift IPA from Central Waters, Teej goes with Leinenkugel’s Creamy Dark Lager, Schnell ventures out and tries Lagunitas Sucks (spoiler; it does), and Junior brings it all back home with Unite the Clans, a Scottish Rye Ale from Third Space Brewing Company.
In episode 47 the guys lead off with the introduction of a new segment and a brief conversation about what bands & tracks they are listening to at the moment. Then, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, they examine some of the fine musical contributions that the Irish have made in the world of rock & roll. In the final segment, deep thoughts and worldviews are challenged when the guys consider which band they would rather be in: Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray, or Harvey Danger. The beer of the week is Central Waters Brewer’s Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout. Patrick's Obscure Music Pick Of The Week: Berlin - Take My Breathe Away

We have a very special treat with this week’s episode. Today we’re playing a game created and designed by our very own Beer’d Gamer Schnell! Sat-Elite is actually the second game he’s created, with Landfall being the first (look for that in a future episode!). The game puts players head-to-head in a space race to see who can have the most successful rocket launches to earn them victory points the fastest. Sat-Elite is a game that we all like very much, and if you’re interested in playing a game we’ve played and recommend while supporting the passion of one our own members, then you can find it for sale at the following link: https://www.thegamecrafter.com/games/sat-elite?dept_uri=&dept_name= In featured beers this week, we’ve got Schnell drinking Old Chub Scottish Ale from Oskar Blues Brewery, Junior drinks local with MKE Brewing’s Lo-Gii, Nelson reps Madison and drinks Penguin Pale Ale by One Barrel Brewing, and Teej keeps things smooth and sexy with Satin Solitude Imperial Stout by Central Waters. Over the last half-dozen years, Amherst, Wisconsin’s Central Waters Brewing have released a special barrel-aged imperial stout for their anniversary at their annual party. Craig is a loyal attendee, so we have a five-year vertical to tackle with the help of Tom, Jack, and Nick from The Hop Review. Along with trying to discern the differences in each vintage, we talk to the Hop Review guys about some of their favorite interviews and what they’re excited about in Chicago for 2017. We also address Craig’s Mosaic blindness, relive the worst Dark Lord Day experience ever, almost make contact with rock royalty, and finally figure out how to capture the elusive Mosh. Our guest didn't come. We're not mad. But it did mean we had to drink more of the alcohol that otherwise would've been shared. Oh well. Despite the lack of guest, this episode ran long. Four callers helped to contribute to that. Topics? How about trips to Minnesota. Sour Skittles. Porn on billboards. Do porn stars feel shame? Why did the plumber fix something that didn't need fixing? Using the women's restroom? And astronauts. All while drinking beers from Peace Tree, Central Waters and WeldWerksSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/three-beers-later/donationsWant to advertise on this podcast? Episode 97 with Jake Bogus. Did you know he used to work in the 3BL Studios? His job was to talk about the red-clad team. As you'll learn in this episode...old habits die hard. In this episode, we talk about the 'skers. Quite a bit. BUT ALSO....parenthood. Bananas. Microwaving fish. Social media. Flavor profiles. And we drank some beer from Central Waters, Bristol Brewing, and Millstream. Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/three-beers-later/donationsWant to advertise on this podcast?
