"Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. Thou shalt not do so unto the Lord thy God: for every abomination to the Lord, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods. What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it." Deuteronomy 12:30-32
On this episode of Preaching the Text, John Hoyum and Steve Paulson take up an inquiry of the crowd with Jesus in which a man asks him to divide his inheritance between himself and his brother. In the course of their conversation, Jesus tells a parable to teach about the danger of coveteousness, and the problem of placing faith in earthly goods. Such goods are gifts of God alone whom faith trusts. This text also brings out the question of Jesus' status as our judge – not according to the law, but according to the gospel. Essay: Gerhard O. (43:33) Maggie - I HAVE 4 KIDS AND THREE HAVE LEFT THE FAITH. They go to a Baptist/non-Catholic Church. My son's in laws are pastors. They want me to go to Church with them. What am I supposed to do?
In this episode, we are joined by Reformanda Initiative Fellow Mark Gilbert (Certainty 4 Eternity) about the new book he co-edited with Leonardo, The Nicene Creed: The Nature of Christian Unity and the Meaning of Gospel Words. We discuss his chapter contribution, which unpacks the clause of the Nicene Creed “We believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic church,” noting how Roman Catholics and Evangelicals share these words, but do not share the theological interpretation of them.Support the show
Send us a textWhen Jesus' disciples asked, "Lord, teach us to pray," they recognized how Jesus connected with the Divine. The prayer the disciples asked for wasn't about polished words. It was about relationship. In this episode, Melissa has a conversation with The Rev. Canon Salmoon Bashir about prayer and its power to transform our spiritual lives. Salmoon shares the story of how his mother instilled prayer as a non-negotiable daily practice in their family life. The conversation reveals how early formation in prayer creates patterns that sustain us through life's complexities.Prayer emerges not as a performance or obligation but as relationship-building with the divine. "The focus of prayer is to be like Jesus, love like Jesus, pray like Jesus, forgive like Jesus, welcome strangers like Jesus," Salmoon explains. This relational approach dismantles the anxiety many feel about "praying correctly," affirming that from ancient liturgical traditions to simple heartfelt words, there's no wrong way to pray. As Salmoon prepares to pass these prayer traditions to his four-month-old son by reading Psalms at bedtime, we're reminded that prayer forms not just our spiritual lives but the generations that follow. Listen in for the full conversation.Read For Faith, the companion devotional. The Rev. Canon Salmoon Bashir serves as the Canon for Liturgy and Ecumenism at the Cathedral of St. Philip. Originally from Pakistan, Salmoon brings over a decade of experience in offering compassionate and thoughtful leadership across multicultural, multi-faith contexts in the United States, Pakistan, Iraq, the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Georgia. Before ordained ministry, Salmoon worked as a Project Engineer in the oil and gas industry in the Middle East. Responding to a vocational call, he joined the Community of St. Anselm at Lambeth Palace in London, serving alongside the Archbishop of Canterbury. He later moved to the Republic of Georgia, where he served as Assistant Pastor in a vibrant, multiethnic, and multidenominational church.Salmoon's call to the priesthood in The Episcopal Church led him to Atlanta, where he earned a Master of Divinity degree with a Certificate in Episcopal-Anglican Studies and a Chaplaincy concentration from Emory University's Candler School of Theology. In addition to his ministry, Salmoon serves on several academic, religious, and nonprofit boards. He is married to Mari, a fellow graduate of Candler School of Theology, who works with a faith-based nonprofit organization. Support the show Follow us on IG and FB at Bishop Rob Wright.

Fiecare astfel de congregaţie îşi are specificul său.

G.K. and Dave marvel at President Trump's first week back in the White House. From dealing with the disasters hands-on to cleaning house of the political garbage left by the Biden Administration, G.K. rightly describes it as the adults being back in charge. Dave makes a point of declaring a seismic shift in senatorial power with Vice President J.D. Vance having to bring the tie in the confirmation of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Dave also is inspired by the blasphemous behavior of the lesbian bishop in the National Cathedral to give a class on the failure of ecumenism. Fr.Dcn. Ananias Sorem returns to cover the relationship between Jerusalem and Athens – revelation and reason. Firstly, they are and aren't in tension – and we'll see how. Secondly, terms and words are not synonymous – there may be overlap at times, but the meanings of the words are unique in Orthodox theology. Second, we want to look at the Amazon synod, the relationship to Vatican II and perennialism and true and false ecumenism. ORIGINAL AIR DATE: JAN 12, 2017Anthony Patch joins Pastor Caspar to discuss the push for a one world religion by the Vatican.
In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by Nathan Smith, the Director of Ecumenism for Glenmary Home Missioners, a Catholic religious community, and as a consultant for the USCCB's Secretariat for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs and one of the authors behind The Gift of Being Christian Together, a new document seeking to build a bridge between Catholic and Evangelical communities. In this amazing conversation, Nathan shares the heart of ecumenism: how we can reach out to our separated brethren – other non-Catholic Christian communities – to successfully find common ground and work towards a closer relationship. We talk about Christ's vision in John 17, how to understand non-Catholic Christian communities especially for converts, and how to reconcile the truth found only in the Catholic Church with the Body of Christ, broken and separated, in other Christian communities. This is a profound conversation! For more visit The Gift of Being Christian Together.Send your feedback to cordialcatholic@gmail.com. The participants acknowledge the good fruits from other Christians, such as their love for Scripture, openness to the Holy Spirit, and zeal for evangelization.
