As the season reaches a denouement we speak to two bosses in the mix. Eastbourne Borough manager Adam Murray said pre-season it would go to the last game of the season and in National League South it is hard to see any other situation even with 4 games to go. He'll just take each one as they come though, Some might say Cleethorpes Town are a shoe-in now for the title in the Northern Premier League East but not Gaffer Craig Rouse. He'll celebrate when it's title secure but until then there's plenty to do and keep focused on. Jon Couch is back to round up the week's news from The Non League Paper. This weekend set to be full of more promotions and relegations.

Few footballers are more active allies to the LGBTQ+ community in the men's game than Ruaridh Donaldson. The Chelmsford City midfielder doesn't shy away from his allyship – in fact, it's front and centre on his Instagram page, and something he is proud to be. And while it seems an odd question, asking the Scot why he's so open with his support for the community when relatively few other men in the world of football aren't is a question that's absolutely key – and at the centre of this cracking conversation on the podcast today. It's a chat with a man who is considered, empathetic, sensitive and utterly genuine with his allyship – especially as he has experienced homophobic abuse himself, even as someone who isn't a member of the LGBTQ+ community himself. We also talk about Ruaridh's journey in football, his experiences in the beautiful game, what the sport has given him, the reality of playing in National League South and so much more besides. In fact, it's more guts and grit as these two brothers have proved. Rafa & Stefano Petruzzo, the owners of Hampton & Richmond Borough FC - who play in National League South, the sixth level of the English football league system - tell us all about the world of football ownership, and how they're eyeing a partnership with Singapore's very own BG Tampines Rovers. Then we head down to the south west again. A bit further than last week's show, this time the most westerly side in the top four steps of the National League system. A club on the rise not only on the field but also off it. Leading the way in building online followings and communities supporting a club that now boasts an international fan base for what is truly a village side, but a lovely village at that. Jake Ash is the manager at Mousehole AFc and as it turns out he is as big a fan of this show as we are of his work and those around him at the club. Mousehole are unbeaten this season, joint top scorers in the competition and whilst they host higher level opposition in the FA Cup this weekend there's little doubt there's a respectful belief that their unbeaten record and FA Cup journey aren't about to come to an end just yet. Rounding it all up Matt Badcock Editor at Large at the Non League Paper with a few reception issues but hopefully not impacting too heavily on his insight into the big news across the pyramid this week and the issues to be covered in this week's Non League Paper.

The season is pretty much done but there's plenty going on behind the scenes both here, at Wembley and at football clubs up and down the country. It's actually the busiest time of the year and we wanted to capture a slightly different angle on it all as we go into the final big games this weekend with Non League Finals day. However, to do so it looks like we might have a two part show this week with our ‘second set of guests available early Friday morning to hopefully allow a Friday PM release of their contribution. That doesn't mean your ears get time off for good behaviour though. We have plenty to entertain and inform, starting with insight into the FA Trophy final between FC Halifax Town and Gateshead. THe focus is more on the latter as we speak to former media man at the club, now local journalist who has been reporting on the Heed for over 5 decades. It's great to chat to players, managers, chairmen and the like but with big games like these it's the fans that have lived and breathed the club often for longer and who for whom Wembley appearances are a big thing. Jeff Bowron knows more about Gateshead FC than most for sure and it's great to hear what Sunday's final means for him. Rounding up the week's news including last week's National League, National League South and National League North play off finals is Matt Badcock Editor at Large with the Non League Paper. THere's also much debate around the league allocations out this week and a number of new managerial appointments too.
Football Cliches - A show about the unique language of football
The Athletic's Adam Hurrey is joined by British comedy royalty Matt Lucas and his Fantasy Football League sidekick Elis James for the latest edition of Mesut Haaland Dicks. Among Matt's selections for his footballing fascinations and irritations are using football small talk to win over your other half's dad, the schadenfreude of watching the opposition's Fan TV YouTube channels after a win and the interrogation techniques faced by celebrity fans of big clubs. Meanwhile, the Adjudication Panel enjoy some research-based, middle-class football chanting from the National League South. *** Get a FREE 1 year supply of immune-supporting Vitamin D AND 5 FREE travel packs with your first purchase of Athletic Greens at athleticgreens.com/epl Learn more about your ad choices.
