We're back and better than ever, but the Coronavirus continues to cause production delays and canceled events as Google denies to cancel Google IO, and Apple is rumored to be canceling plans for a March event at the end of the month, and may cause production delays for future products including the iPhone 12. We also discuss the latest iMac and Mac mini rumors and about the issues plaguing the Galaxy S20 Ultra camera. BlackBerry, the real Canadian atoms and bits BlackBerry, died years ago. This week, the Chinese bits and American atoms that briefly reanimated it finally gave up the ghost as well. As a Canadian, I was heartbroken then and still am now. Instead of a wake, instead of pouring one out, though, I want to take this opportunity to look back at what happened to the once industry leader, the titan, and more importantly — why. Apple found unprecedented mainstream success with the iPod. 1000 songs in our pockets was just the beginning. But Steve Jobs never made the mistake of confusing Apple’s products for its business. And he knew the iPod was just a product. The iPod was the smash hit of its time, to be sure, but time is relentless. Something was coming for it. Something that was more than just a product. A convergence. The phone combined with the mobile internet and, yes, with the MP3 player. An existential threat. So, Jobs turned Apple towards the iPhone. And, at that moment, that very moment, BlackBerry was ended. We just didn’t know it yet. SPONSOR: Thanks to Skillshare for sponsoring this show! In 2016 we got the truly wireless EarPods-like AirPods. In 2017… make that 2018… we got the room-filling HomePod. In 2019, 2nd generation AirPods and, right at the end of the year, the in-ear AirPods Pro. Now, rumor has it, we may just be getting truly wireless over-the-ear headphones from Apple. Apple doesn’t always hold March events. But when it does… 2015 brought us ResearchKit, the 12-inch MacBook, and the launch of the Apple Watch. 2016 was CareKit, the iPhone SE and 9.7-inch iPad Pro 2018 was an updated entry-level iPad, Everyone Can Code, and a series Education-centric announcements. 2019 was Apple News+, Apple Card, Apple Arcade, and Apple TV+, with new iPads Air and mini, and AirPods 2 moved into separate announcements to keep it all about the services. This year, given all the concerns and closures in China surrounding the coronavirus, even if Apple originally wanted to hold a March event in 2020, it may not be able to. But, if Apple does and there are no significant delays, if Apple holds either in one big event or a series of smaller releases, just what may Apple have in store for us this spring? This week, we present a very special encore episode featuring outspoken columnist John Martellaro, Senior Editor, Analysis & Reviews for The Mac Observer. His bill of fare this week includes Apple's March media event and its implications going forward. Were there really two few details. John also explains why suggestions that Apple buy Netflix are not viable, why things aren't what they appear to be with Apple, Apple's privacy ad and how it showcases the company's philosophy compared to the likes of Facebook and Google, and whether the monolithic iTunes app for Macs and PCs may soon be broken up into more digestible and easier-to-use single-purpose apps. Some people can hardly wait.In a very special encore segment, we cover Apple's "Show Time" media event that was held on March 25, 2019, where the wraps were taken off plans for Apple TV+, yet another video streaming service that will offer a collection of original TV shows and movies premiering in the fall. Such notables as J.J. Abrams, Steven Spielberg and even Oprah Winfrey are involved in the production of this content, but details beyond the basic "up-front" presentation and previews have yet to be announced. Apple also announced Apple News+, a subscription service featuring material culled from both magazines and newspapers, a major enhancement to the free app. In addition, Apple Arcade will offer original games, also by subscription. Here to talk about the goings on is outspoken tech commentator Peter Cohen.
This week, we feature tech editor and commentator Bryan Chaffin, co-founder and co-publisher of The Mac Observer. Bryan, you see, is hopping mad at Apple for not paying enough attention to the Mac in recent years. He feels that product upgrades come too slowly, meaning you pay current prices for models that can be two or more years old. Bryan also speculates about the next Mac Pro workstation, which is expected later this year, perhaps at Apple's WWDC event in June. He also focuses on the latest Facebook security follies and Apple's March 25th media event, where the wraps were taken off Apple TV+ and a lineup of brand new shows. Was this an upfront presentation of new content, echoing the approach of other TV and streaming networks, or an attempt to demonstrate to the bigwigs in Hollywood that Apple is open for business? In a very special encore segment, the focus is on online security, as we present Cat Murdock, a hacker who hunts child predators for the Innocent Lives Foundation. This interview comes in the wake of recent stories about the discover of alleged pedophilia rings on YouTube. Cat will expand on the nature of the problem, and the things parents should look out for in protecting their children. The Innocent Lives Foundation is a nonprofit founded by Chris Hadnagy that recruits hackers and IT experts to use their skills for good by hunting down online predators. The organization's board includes A.J. Cook, a member of the ensemble cast of CBS's "Criminal Minds," and the former head of the FBI's Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program.

On this episode, hosts Elias, Mukuma and Wezi sit down with Mvesesani Co-founder Twaambo. He shares his story tech journey, gives some tips on the entrepreneurial journey and the tools in a developer's arsenal, and the team talks about open source and bootstrapping projects into revenue generating businesses. In the news, the team talks about Google Stadia, which was unveiled at at this year's GDC, how feasible it is as a model, and the effect it may have on the gaming industry. Then, Apple's March event. We look in-depth at Apple Arcade, and how this approach contrasts Google's, Apple Card, and whether Apple are running out of ideas on how to make money. And finally, MTN let's you top up using WhatsApp (only available in South Africa though), but the team asks, why would you you use this over a dedicated app, or USSD For some other references from this episode, take a look at The Dip by Seth Godin, a handy article about making it through The Trough of Sorrow by Kyle Wong, and the first season of StartUp by Gimlet. Matt talks about Apple's March 25th, 2019 event where the company unveiled its new news, television, and credit card products.
Apple’s March 25 event is just around the corner and that means there’ll not only be a lot to cover but a lot of people covering it. And... it’s weird. I’ve blogged and done podcasts for a long time, and YouTube much more recently. And even when you’re just talking about one company, like Apple, the analysts and journalists don’t always know the podcasters or bloggers, or vice versa, and the people on YouTube don’t always know the people off, and also vice versa. It’s almost like we all exist in the same space but vibrate at different dimensional frequencies. And the intersection of people who read Daring Fireball, watch MKBHD, listen to Connected, and follow Above Avalon is way, way smaller than it should be. So, let’s fix that. These are all the Apple analysts, journalists, bloggers, podcasters, YouTubers, and more that you need to follow in 2019. SPONSOR: Brilliant Go to http://brilliant.org/vector and sign up for free. We're running a wee bit long this week, cadets, but that's only because we're as jam-packed full of good stuff as the Millennium Falcon on a smuggling run! Special guest Peter Cohen returns to talk about keyboards, the new golden age of TV, and the first golden age of the Internet (insert modem screeching here) -- you know, before AOL ruined everything by making it accessible to everyone. Mike is back and eager to talk about Apple's two March events (happening shortly after we post this of course), an education-focused keynote and a press-oriented town hall. There's also a lot of rumor control needed for this and the upcoming WWDC, so he and Charles get out the Hose of Probability and give the speculation a good scrubbing. As if that weren't enough, there's also the Facebook data debacle, the Calendar 2 crypto-calamity, more health happiness and new emoji from Apple, more issues for S9 owners, and while we're talking the Galaxy S9 -- AppleInsider took a look at the biometrics and the new ARmoji features, and both made their eyes hurt. All this and more, cadets, so sit back and enjoy this extended mission -- forward to the past, and back to the future!

Savannah Peterson, a Forbes 30 Under 30 in Consumer Tech, joins Vincenzo on the podcast to talk about Apple predictions on what is to come during the spring release and what we should expect to see from the Cupertino giant. Savannah encourages you to say hi on twitter @SavIsSavvy Check out her YouTube channel here Or connect with her on Facebook here It's gonna happen: New 4-inch iPhone The main product unveiling expected at Apple's March 21 event is a new 4-inch iPhone that will replace the current iPhone 5s. It's believed that the handset will boast many of the same internal components as the iPhone 6s, including a 12-megapixel camera, A9 processor, and support for Apple Pay. If the iPhone 5s is discontinued, Apple's entire iPhone product lineup would then feature Apple Pay for the first time ever. Leaked schematics suggest the new iPhone model will feature an aesthetic similar to the current iPhone 6s series, such as curved edges and a slightly protruding camera, but smaller in size. The rumored name of the product is "iPhone SE." With the iPhone 5s currently priced at $449 off contract, expect that Apple's new 4-inch model will launch in largely the same price range. It's likely to launch just a matter of days after the keynote. Highly Likely: New 9.7-inch iPad Whether it's branded as an iPad Air or iPad Pro, Apple is also expected to introduce a new 9.7-inch iPad that will serve as the successor to the iPad Air 2, which first launched in 2014. The new model is expected to feature many of the same capabilities of the larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro, including the Smart Connector magnetic port for keyboard accessories, as well as a four-speaker array and possibly the beefed-up A9X processor. We present outspoken commentator Jeff Gamet, Managing Editor for The Mac Observer. He will present his views about the ongoing Apple dispute with the FBI over whether our favorite fruit company can be forced to build a special OS backdoor to unlock an iPhone 5c work phone used by a terrorist in the San Bernardino attacks. He'll also talk about Apple's March 21, 2016 media event, where they are expected to introduce a 4-inch iPhone and a new 9.7-inch iPad. And how does adding new models contribute to model bloat at Apple? Can they — should they — produce fewer product variations?
