Lot's going on in this episode.   We chat about the lack of a spring event from Apple - and ponder will they possibly yet surprise us. We chat over the new M3 MacBook Air and what to expect from the next iPad Pro.   Then we really get in the trenches with the whole buying views on YoiuTube controversy - we pull it apart and try to find ouy what is really going on.   Don't forget we are also on YouTube Music as an audio-only podcast.   Don't forget, if you enjoy our weekly podcast to subscribe, like, and share - and if you listen on Apple Podcasts - to leave us a rating (hopefully a 5-star one!) as well!

This week on the show we check out key highlights from Apple's recent Peek Performance Event that introduced us to several new products including a new iPhone SE with A15 Bionic Chip, a new iPad Air with M1 Chip, a powerful new Mac desktop called Mac Studio, and a new professional monitor called the Mac Studio Display. Clearly Apple's first major media event of the year was very much characterized by the company's growing processor technology. In our first Cheap vs Steep discussion we chat about budget priced tech and compare them to their expensive counterparts. This week the team have been trying out a Power Geek Mini Wireless Bluetooth Speaker available in Dealz for 6 euro and finding out whether there is much of a difference in the audio quality of this speaker. Finally our attention turns to the smartphone debate for the ages – iOS vs Android. From built-in accessibility to third-party apps, our panellists and guests take a look at the respective strengths of each mobile platform to help you pick the right one the next time you buy a smartphone.Support the show (https://www.ncbi.ie/supporting-us/donate-now/)

On the docket for the event will supposedly be an updated iPad Pro, AirPods and Apple TV, as well as the debut of AirTags. Check out Apple’s sleek MagSafe power bank that might never launch Two different leakers claim to give the world very early looks at Apple’s MagSafe power bank for on-the-go charging. This will allegedly attach to an iPhone with magnets so it can wireless juice up the handset. But there are questions whether Apple can fix problems with development and actually release the product. iMac Pro discontinued: Get it before it’s gone Apple discontinued the iMac Pro, which is still one of the fastest Macs available despite being more than three years old. Whether the move means an updated version of the all-in-one desktop is on the way is unclear. Good riddance to iMac Pro and the era of underwhelming Macs The iMac Pro is seemingly nearing the end of its natural lifespan — and good riddance to it. In fairness, the iMac Pro was not a bad computer. It was even, technically, a pretty great one. But it epitomized an era of Mac design that may have been the most uninspired and directionless in Apple history.

Apple doesn’t always hold March events. But when it does… 2015 brought us ResearchKit, the 12-inch MacBook, and the launch of the Apple Watch. 2016 was CareKit, the iPhone SE and 9.7-inch iPad Pro 2018 was an updated entry-level iPad, Everyone Can Code, and a series Education-centric announcements. 2019 was Apple News+, Apple Card, Apple Arcade, and Apple TV+, with new iPads Air and mini, and AirPods 2 moved into separate announcements to keep it all about the services. This year, given all the concerns and closures in China surrounding the coronavirus, even if Apple originally wanted to hold a March event in 2020, it may not be able to. But, if Apple does and there are no significant delays, if Apple holds either in one big event or a series of smaller releases, just what may Apple have in store for us this spring? Apple’s March 25 event is just around the corner and that means there’ll not only be a lot to cover but a lot of people covering it. And... it’s weird. I’ve blogged and done podcasts for a long time, and YouTube much more recently. And even when you’re just talking about one company, like Apple, the analysts and journalists don’t always know the podcasters or bloggers, or vice versa, and the people on YouTube don’t always know the people off, and also vice versa. It’s almost like we all exist in the same space but vibrate at different dimensional frequencies. And the intersection of people who read Daring Fireball, watch MKBHD, listen to Connected, and follow Above Avalon is way, way smaller than it should be. So, let’s fix that. These are all the Apple analysts, journalists, bloggers, podcasters, YouTubers, and more that you need to follow in 2019. SPONSOR: Brilliant Go to http://brilliant.org/vector and sign up for free. On the show this week @erfon / @bst3r / @lkahney   iPhone 8’s wireless charging won’t be as good as we hoped http://www.cultofmac.com/468709/iphone-8s-wireless-charging-wont-good-hoped/ If you were hoping Apple had developed a spectacular new wireless charging system for iPhone 8, you’re going to be disappointed come September. A new rumor claims that Apple won’t be using range charging technology developed by Energous as previously expected, but instead one of the existing solutions already found in rival smartphones like those made by Samsung. Adding fuel to that fire, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission has only recently approved a version of Energous technology that delivers very low power over just a few inches. The iPhone would require higher levels of power and a wider range. A solution that meets these requirements is yet to be approved by the FCC.   Apple has five different teams working on wireless charging http://www.cultofmac.com/469187/apple-five-different-teams-working-wireless-charging/ According to a new report, the company currently has not one or two, but five different groups inside Apple currently working to develop wireless charging technology for future iPhones.   Sony’s new sensor could bring super slo-mo video to iPhone http://www.cultofmac.com/469189/sonys-new-sensor-bring-super-slo-mo-video-iphone/ Apple has used Sony’s camera sensors in a number of iPhones, including the new dual-lens cameras on the iPhone 7 Plus. Sony unveiled the new senor during a lecture at the 2017 International Solid-State Circuits Conference capable of shooting 19.3MP still images at a frame rate of 120 fps. It can shoot 960fps video in 1080p. The iPhone 7 only shoots 120fps video in 720p.   Apple Said to Debut New iPad Pro Lineup, 128GB iPhone SE, and Red iPhone 7 and 7 Plus at March Event https://www.macrumors.com/2017/02/20/ipad-pro-march-event-128gb-iphone-se/ Apple will host a March event to introduce a new iPad Pro lineup and other products, according to Japanese website Mac Otakara. In terms of the iPad Pro lineup, the report claims Apple will announce new 7.9-inch, 9.7-inch, 10.5-inch, and 12.9-inch models. The 10.5-inch model may not ship until May, while the other sizes are said to ship in March. If the report is accurate, it could mean has Apple plans to refresh the iPad mini 4 with a new 7.9-inch iPad Pro version, update its existing 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros, and introduce an all-new 10.5-inch iPad Pro, which is has been rumored to feature an edge-to-edge display without a Home button.   Apple’s ‘spaceship’ campus will be named Apple Park http://www.cultofmac.com/468939/spaceship-campus-will-officially-named-apple-park/ Apple’s enormous new spaceship campus finally has an official name: Apple Park. First conceived in 2011 by Steve Jobs, Apple Park has been under construction since 2013 and is rumored to have cost Apple upwards of $5 billion. The 175-acre plot will open for business in April, although work won’t officially be completed until late summer. campus’ 1,000-seat auditorium will be named the Steve Jobs Theater as a tribute to the company’s co-founder. “Opening later this year, the entrance to the 1,000-seat auditorium is a 20-foot-tall glass cylinder, 165 feet in diameter, supporting a metallic carbon-fiber roof,” Apple said in a press release. “The Steve Jobs Theater is situated atop a hill — one of the highest points within Apple Park — overlooking meadows and the main building”  The campus will house around 12,000 Apple employees, And includes a new $75 million gym.
