“吸烟有害健康”但哪怕这句话明明白白的印在烟盒上吞云吐雾者仍处处可见谁让它是人们解闷和联络感情的一大途径呢“来一根不?”烟点了,话也就打开了……不过“你抽烟吗?”的英文可别说:“Are you smoking?”01Are you smoking是什么意思?smoke除了跟烟有关还有其它含义来看Urban Dictionary对Are you smoking? Are you smoking? Just look at what you've done! 你是不是脑子进水了?看看你都做了些什么!02“你抽烟吗”英文怎么说?要问别人抽烟吗?可以用:Do you smoke? 例:A: Do you smoke?你抽烟吗?B: Not now, but I used to. 现在不抽了,但过去常常抽的。03smoke like a chimneysmoke like a chimney意思是:“烟瘾大;烟抽很凶”例:My grandpa has smoked like a chimney all his life.我爷爷这一辈子抽烟都很凶。而表达烟瘾大的人,可以说chain smoker例:He is a chain smoker, smoking at least three packs a day. 他烟瘾很大,每天最少吸三包烟。烟瘾大的人也可以说heavy smoker例:He used to be a heavy smoker, but now he doesn't smoke any more. 他以前烟瘾很大,可他现在根本不抽烟了。04smoking gun剑桥词典是这样解释的:information that proves who committed a crime,即“确凿的证据”,也就是我们常说的“实锤”“这个表达源自于夏洛克·福尔摩斯的小说,意思就是开枪的人在开枪之后一定留有证据~例:It is Jamie who stole that painting. And it is a smoking gun. 就是杰米偷走了那幅画,铁证如山。 To prove that it is not me who did that, I finally find the smoking gun. 为了证明那一切都不是我干的,我最终找到了证据。05go up in smokego up in smoke也是常用地道的英语表达本来一开始指的是被烧光、烧毁后来也用来延伸表示化为泡影,化为乌有“大家可以这样理解:go up表示上升,in smoke是指呈现出烟雾的状态,所以连起来go up in smoke指的是没有任何成果,最后都化为泡影了。例:He saw his life savings go up in smoke when the stock market crash.股市崩盘后,他眼看毕生积蓄化为乌有。06smoke and mirrorssmoke本身还有烟雾的意思因此在美式俚语中smoke还被延伸用来表示巧妙的谎言,骗人的鬼话而smoke and mirrors又是骗人的鬼话又是镜子这样虚假的东西就是用来表达虚幻或欺骗行为例:Celebrity image is built on smoke and mirrors. 名人的形象不过都是虚幻。Much of what he said was, frankly, smoke and mirrors. 坦率地说,他的很多话都是忽悠。

Khelan) (59:20)   DOC: Hello Billy, I'm Dr. Issues. BILLY: Hey Doc.  D: How are you?  B: I mean, things have been worse. D: That's not exactly a rousing endorsement. B: Sorry, I just mean there were a lot of questions that were driving me crazy, and I don't have nearly as many as I did before. That's a good thing. D: I'm glad to hear that. So what lingers? B: Still a ton of stuff. *pause* This is a bit hard, you know? I get it's your job, but sometimes I think even professionals will misinterpret what I'm saying, so I'm careful with what I let out. D: Totally understandable. Just remember that this is confidential, so even if things don't go as expected, they stay between us as long as no one is put in danger. B: Good to know. D: So, name something you want to discuss. B: Iwanttobecalmiwanttobecalmiwanttobecalm… D: Excuse me? B: Sorry, just wanted to be sure I was in the right headspace before I started. Is it wrong to want your husband to be around more? D: That...sounds like a loaded question. I take it you mean “more than he is now” and that there is some sort of barrier to that? B: Exactly. D: Does he disagree with you? B: NOT exactly. It's more to do with...outside activities. D: Are they activities that you approve of? B: I don't have a choice. D: There's always a choice; it's just a matter of consequences. B: Well, the consequences here involve the wellbeing of a whole empire, so do with that what you will. D: *pause* Heavy stuff. B: And listen, I'm so proud of him taking on this responsibility, and he does it so well and capably. And it doesn't hurt that he looks AMAZING with a crown on his head. I just… I want some more US time, y'know? D: For once when talking to a superhero, I DO know, quite well. How far would you say the scale has shifted? B: Oh, he hasn't packed on weight or anything. He still can bench press D: *interrupting* I'm glad that you're clearly still into him physically...what I meant was, on the work-life balance spectrum of his time with the crown versus his time with you, where is he on that scale? B: Hmmmm...maybe 75-25? No that's too harsh. How about 60-40. D: Your first answer was your gut, and that's ok. Intuition that's unrecognized can lead to dangerous emotional impulse. Your second answer sounds like what you would settle for. But tell me...really. What do you want it to be? B: The selfish side of me would say 5-95, and that's being generous. I just… we're newly married, our honeymoon was interrupted by symbiote dragons attacking the resort, and it seems like he can't make a decision without having to worry about some intergalactic treaty or alliance hanging on his every move. I love him, and I'll be his ride or die until neither of us draw breath, but I confess I did NOT see this as part of the whole “till death do us part” thing when I fell in love with him. So the simple answer is I don't honestly know what a good balance would be, but I know this ain't it. D: That may be one of the most mature answers I've heard in a long time. I'm not going to promise that those outside factors are going to change, but I can vow that it is my ethical duty to help your attempts at discovering a better balance each time we discuss it in each session. My only caution to you is to not expect things to just magically change. B: Except you realize who you're talking to, right? D: Yes, but even still- B: Iwantabetterbalanceiwantabetterbalanceiwantabetterbalance D: As I was saying, I know you want things to get towards total devotion, but the increase in civil unrest may be taking an emotional toll on your partner. Have you talked about that with him? B: Pardon me, but, I don't think it's THAT bad. D: Well, 25-75 isn't your perfect goal, and yet, the attempts on the lives of your fellow heroes must have led to so much anxiety.  B: No, no, that's not - D: But you did say he was willing to surrender if it came time to save you. I'm glad that he has made it known how much he loves you. B: Iwantabetterkingdomiwantabetterkingdomiwantabetterkingdom D: You're clearly using your abilities to influence what you can. I've been talking a lot here. Rather than creating more stress for yourself, let me know, what's your take on your husband's pushback? B: *semi-robotic* I want the kingdom to be better. *normal* I thought I made that clear with the spells and the talking and I really thought you would have picked up on this by now oh my gosh have I completely made things worse oh no oh no oh no not again… D: Well, I usually don't jump to this in a session, but your anxiety appears to be through the roof! Have you considered other forms of relaxation, or a discussion on possible medication management? B: Sorry, sorry, I just had a bit of a freakout there...we were talking about acceptable balance. I'm willing to work at it the slow...the NON MAGIC way. D: No problem. 76-24 is not the worst I've ever heard in terms of a ratio B: WHAT? D: Just a bit of humor on my end. Usually the reality is somewhere between your gut and your partner's thoughts. I'm in no position right now to tell what the number is. Only you know that. B: Oh, so the things you said before, with what I cast, and the responses after that, it wasn't so bad I didn't screw everything up there's still a chance oh my god this is amazing! D: You're...welcome? I must say, for someone who knows a lot about things I couldn't begin to understand, you sell yourself short with how much you have in your control. B: Maybe not as much as you think, doctor. D: Ok then, perhaps we'll discuss how much control you have over the situation in our next session. In the meantime, enjoy that makeup honeymoon that your constituents planned for you out of respect for your personal lives. B: Whoa...whoa...then it really made a difference? I did better? I...nevermind. You're right. Let's leave it at that. Iwanttogototeddyiwanttogototeddyiwanttogototeddy... At this point in my vocational journey, I'm pretty sure that any preacher who tells you she or he never gets anxious is either A) Lying, or B) Not doing their job right. Honestly, I just think anxiety comes with the human experience. And that's good news, because it means it's something common to us all, and even though it can sometimes seem overwhelming, we can learn to manage it. Steve Cuss wants to help us do just that. Steve is a minister, himself, and he's also struggled with anxiety throughout his life. Instead of letting anxiety be a burden, though, Steve has made it a part of his spiritual journey, asking, "What does my anxiousness say about my faith?," and he's become somewhat of an expert in understanding anxiety and how we, as leaders and people in general, can manage it. As someone who has struggled mightily with anxiety and its management, I was thrilled to sit down for this conversation with Steve. Our time together was a blessing for me, and unless you're a minister who's either A) Lying, or B) Not doing your job right, I bet you'll find it helpful, too. Learn more about Steve on his website, www.stevecusswords.com, check out his book, Managing Leadership Anxiety: Yours and Theirs, and listen to his podcast here. Also, if you would like to participate in the online community Steve has cultivated to help ministers and other leaders manage anxiety, learn about it at capablelife.me.

We need to hurry up. B: Gotcha! 我们之前讲过的“I get it”和“I got it”④“I get it”和“I got it”如果你明白了一些之前不明白的事情比如知识、技能要点... A: Do you understand what I'm saying?你理解我说的吗?B: I get it. A: You have to submit the scripts today. B: I got it. A:Where are we exactly? ② I have no idea. 或 I haven't got a clue. / Not a clue. A: What time does the film start?电影什么时候开始?B: I have no idea. Why don't you call the cinema? It beats me how she got the job. ④It's beyond me.beyond me It's beyond me why she is always late. ⑤Not as far as I know当你认为某件事可能是真的但又不确定的情况下可以用这个表达例:A: Has James left the company? I haven't seen him for ages. B: Not as far as I know, but I haven't seen him recently either.

The rise and fall of nations, racism, and even genocide can be explained by a misdiagnosis of progress. This is also called the progress fallacy and it is one of the riskiest assumptions that you can make in life and business.    Rather than thinking of progress as a noun, think of it as a verb. You are progressing along your path in entrepreneurship which means that for every failure you are doubling your success rate because you now know what NOT to do.    Here is the thing, in almost any given scenario, event A did not necessarily cause event B to happen. Think about it, you download a new software and sometime later your computer crashes. Was event A the root cause of event B? Not necessarily right?    This same concept can be carried throughout all levels of life and business.   Listen in to learn about the root cause and why finding that root is the most important thing you can do. Your three key insights are:    What the root cause of misdiagnosing your progress really is. Why progress misdiagnosis can cause suffering for humanity. How to stop progress misdiagnosis so that you can live a happier, healthier, and wealthier life.   Don’t let root cause misdiagnosis stop you from succeeding in sales, business, and life!   In This Episode:  [04:45] - Learn the three key insights Alex shares in this episode. [07:05] - Progress is important but is it a noun or a verb?  [08:56] - Why do you go the wrong direction enthusiastically?  [09:50] - What is the progress fallacy?  [11:44] - Why you should ignore the simple logic of progress fallacy. [12:56] - Learn why progress misdiagnosis can cause suffering for humanity as a whole.  [14:47] - The progress fallacy has impacted the rise and fall of civilizations across time.  [17:08] - Genocide is borne out of the progress fallacy.  [17:56] - How is this reflected in business?  [19:32] - Making wrong turns is a part of entrepreneurship… a necessary part.  [22:38] - If you believe that all martians steal… [24:17] - Alex shares a personal story in which the progress fallacy changed his life.  [26:56] - Why does root cause misdiagnosis cause suffering.  [29:35] - How do you stop progress misdiagnosis?  [30:20] - The Alexism is, “The only thing worse than going in the wrong direction is to go in the wrong direction enthusiastically.” - Dan S.: “Progress not perfection.”  [31:13] - Hear a quick review of the key insights in this episode:  What the root cause of misdiagnosing your progress really is. AnxCalm - New Solutions to the Anxiety Epidemic

J:  I have a friend of mine, whose name is Ben, and he's going to talk about some of the anxiety situations he's gotten himself into, and what he did to get himself out of them. Hi Ben. B: How are you doing, John? J: Just fine, thanks. What I'd like to do, if you don't mind, is to go through seven of the eight kinds of anxiety and just ask you if you've experienced them, and maybe a little bit about what you've done about them. I'm going to skip the first one, which is simple anxieties, such as claustrophobia or agoraphobia, because they are very common. The first one I want to talk about is social phobia. That includes things like giving speeches or going to parties. Things like that. Do you think you have any social phobias? B: I wouldn't say I have a social phobia. I'm a bit of a performer, and kind of an extrovert, but I also really don't like being around people all the time. I kind of describe myself as an extroverted introvert. J; That's fine, Ben. But that's pretty clearly not anxiety. Let's move on to the third one, which is separation anxiety. Do you experience any separation from anybody as being particularly frightening. B: Not particularly, no. J: Ok fine. The fourth one is generalized anxiety. What about that? B: Yeah. I'm pretty much always anxious about something, or just have a sense of anxiety, whether its towards any specific thing or not. J: When you feel kind of anxious about something, What do you do about it? What helps you? B: It's always something different. Thats something I’ve learned, that you can't always use one coping strategy for every situation, you have to try different things for different situations and figure it out, and even if its a similar situation to one you've had before, sometimes the same solution won't work. J: Boy, are you absolutely right about that. You've got to have a number of arrows in your quiver in order to hit the target, that's for sure. Now I do want to mention this: some research that my colleagues and I did with large numbers of young adults, the results were that males, about seventy-five percent of males do much better with physical techniques of relaxing such as tightening all your muscles and letting them go, or deep breathing, and the women, about seventy-five percent of them, worked much better with mental things. That includes imagining yourself by a nice, quiet lake, or that you're listening to a chorus of monks singing. So are you more like the males here or the twenty five percent category? B: I think I'm more towards the twenty five percent. Of course there's deep breathing that works occasionally, but mental stimulation tends to help me more, so I think more the twenty five percent. J: Can you tell us what kind of imagery that you tend to seek when you're feeling anxious? B; Yeah, I think of people who I love, or good times I've had. Sometimes I'll sing a little song in my head that I enjoy, or just try to make up a story to distract myself. J: I seem to remember that one of your favorite songs is “oh la de da” is that correct? B: (laughing) Absolutely! J: That's an inside joke. Ok. Number five on our list: agoraphobia. Kind of not liking to be away from home very much. B: Yeah, kind of. Not super, but a little bit yeah. J: What typifies the situation where you don't like being away from home. Is it a long trip to a strange place? Or what would categorize this? B: Something I can't get out of. So if I can't escape to calm down, or if I'm kind of stuck in a place that causes me some anxiety, if I'm not in a place I feel safe. J: That brings up an interesting point, Ben. I have the same thing. Especially if I go to somebody's house for dinner and I find myself to be surprised to find myself quite bored by  the conversation, I don't experience it as boring and that I've just got to get through it. I experience it as being trapped, being claustrophobic, and of course that makes it a lot worse for me. So very often you get to a place where you just as soon would not go out with friends or whatever. I remember back in 1984 I almost got housebound. Just didn't want to go any place. Have you had anything like that? B: Yes, I think when I was younger, like middle school age, I was going through a lot and just couldn't make it outside or go anywhere J: Ok. Have you ever experienced a panic attack. One of those very sharp and very strong anxieties, even to the point where you feel like maybe you are going to die or something terrible is going to happen to you. B: Absolutely. Unfortunately I've experienced that many, many times. J: I'm sorry to hear that. Can you tell me the circumstances that typically brings it out? B: Usually it's a result of many things piling up over time and then I just can't handle it anymore and I snap. J: Yeah somebody I was talking to, a woman recently who had been through a very long, difficult period of time, and she said when she thought it was going to be over, all of a sudden she experienced a panic attack. She said to me “ I always thought that people who said they were having a panic attack were just trying to get out of something, they were malingering or whatever” she said “ but I've had two of them now and they're just awful. They seem to come on you all of a sudden” and Ben you've probably heard me talk about the analogy to a stampede. If you don't pay attention to the early warning signs of a panic attack, and we do get them, we just don't pay attention to them. Sometimes we just don't want to think about it. Then the next thing you know the cows are up and they are running and it's too late, you've got a stampede on your hands, so you need to try to be more responsive and ore aware of the fact that you're on the verge of a panic attack and cut it off at the pass. Does that make sense to you? B: Yeah absolutely, that’s something that's allowed me to have far fewer panic attacks. J: That's terrific. I'm so glad to hear that. Number seven is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I happen to have known you for a long time, and I know that at least at one time, when you were only four years old, you were collecting rocks on the beach, and your mother said “that's enough rocks” and you said “ no I have to collect them all'' and she said you just can't, we don't have any room for all the rocks on the beach, and you started to cry and I remember I thought “wow it looks like he's got OCD.” At such an early age I'd never seen it before. Did that turn out to be true? B: Absolutely. And my OCD has kind of evolved over the ages from needing to collect things to search for symmetry, and a need for tradition and keeping certain activities, and doing them the same way whenever I do them. J: Well those are some excellent examples of what happens when somebody has OCD. As you know, it's obsessions which are thoughts, and compulsions which are behaviors, but they are both pretty much the same thing. I make the analogy to superstitions. Superstitions tend to come about because somebody says, you know the old story “Don't step on a crack, you'll break your mother's back” and so you avoid stepping on a crack and when you get home you find out that indeed, your mother's back  is not broken, and we laugh about that but that's kind of the syndrome to the extreme of OCD, is that you learn that if you double check the oven to make sure you turned it off, or that the iron is turned off, or that the water is not running, then you feel better; relieved because of this. And it may be that you are trying to punish yourself for these thoughts. I don't know.  But at any rate you feel a lot better when you go and check so what you learn from that is id better always go back and check. Does that sound right? B: Yeah that's a description of OCD I hear often. But sometimes it's like that for me, but it's also less superstition in other cases, many other cases. It's just I feel a kind of existential dread or extreme discomfort until I perform an action or do a certain thing a certain way. J: So it sounds to me like theres the threat of a panic attack, and it is relieved by doing something obsessive or compulsive. Does that make sense to you? B: Yes it could be described that way. But there's always a wide variety of things that could determine whether or not I feel a certain way about something. J: there's one more, which I presume you do not have, because you haven't been in the military, at least not yet. And that's Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Do you think you have any signs of that? B: No, I don't think so J: Well Ben, this has been very helpful. This was exactly what I was looking for when I invited you to be on the podcast. And I think you've given us some really good examples of what these various kinds mean. I hope we'll get a chance to talk again sometime.   B: Hopefully so! I'd be happy to come back.

Buy one get one free买一送一exchange换货When we want to exchange the goods for another size or another color we call that exchange. 退款-refundWhen we want to return the clothes or the good back and we want the money back we call it refund. Is there any discount on this...? Can you give me a better deal? That's a bit out of my price range. My final offer is 10 dollars. A: Hello, sir. Have you reserved already? 您预订房间了吗?B: Not yet, is there a single room available?没有。还有空的单人间吗?A: Yes, how long will you intend to stay?有,您打算住多久?B: For a week or so. Do you give discount for a week or more? 你们对住一个星期或者更久的顾客打折吗?A: Yes, we give 5% discount for a week and 12% discount for two weeks. B: All right. I'll take a room for a week. Here's my passport. A: Mary, the necklace will cost me over $10,000! There's no way I'm buying it now!玛丽,这项链要10000多美金,现在坚决不能买!B: Me neither, but this coupon gives us a 50% discount off.

Liz Montgomery, Create the Movement: Welcome back to the Create the Movement podcast. I’m Liz Montgomery, and I’m here with Brad Post. Brad Post, Create the Movement: Good morning Liz. How are you? L: I’m good. Today we’re going to talk about one of our favorite topics, and favorite, I think elements of our business for both Brad and I. And that is customer service. And why we do it here, and how we do it, that, I think, sets us apart. B: Yeah. I believe so, too. I think customer service is huge in any company. And that’s something that you and I, and the team around us, has really thrived off of in the past is customer service. And that’s a core part of our business. Is good customer service. Right? L: ‘Good’ customer service! B: Not just customer service, but good customer service. L: Because anyone can say that we have customer service. But they can’t guarantee you what type of service. But for us, yes, good, if not excellent customer service. B: Right. L: We actually like to surpass the standard, or expectation, of what a client thinks they’ll get from a company. B: Yeah. We’ve kind of got four main points we’re going to go over. And I think, like you said, what separates us is, you know, a lot of times, people have had, or businesses have had a website, or had an IT department, or had, you know, somebody doing something for them. And they’ve experienced bad customer service. Right? So, sometimes going into a client, a new potential client, they’ve got pain points, issues that they’ve had with their previous company. “They didn’t listen to me.” Or, “They didn’t, you know, build the site like I wanted.” Or, “They don’t respond to me in a timely manner.” L: And, you know, let’s maybe say a couple of example of bad service. What does bad customer service look like? We’ve all experienced it in different areas. But, you know, in our industry what that looks like is, you know, I just added a - we have a lot of clients that are attorneys. So, they might say, “Hey, we just added a new partner to the firm. We want to make an announcement on our website.” They send that information over to their website provider. And it’s like three or four weeks go by. B: Crickets. L: No response.
