The Floresville Planning and Zoning Committee has decided to take no action to amend zoning or nonconforming-use ordinances. The committee held a special meeting April 2, in response to a Floresville city councilman's attempt March 27 to initiate the rezoning of a local business. The business — Ten/28 Collision Repair & Refinishing at 1124 D St. — was not zoned as commercial when it opened in 2020 (See “Floresville discusses rezoning, considers future path,” April 2 Wilson County News.) After the council's vote was tabled, Development Department Director Jacob Montoya and Development Clerk Cyndi Nichols met with the city's legal...Article Link
Edition No122 | 03-04-2025 - The story in today's episode has come as huge and bewildering shock to a lot of people. But unfortunately, is something that Jonathan Pearce and I suggested was a possibility some weeks back. And that is the full alignment of Washington with Moscow's objectives, which amount to a modern-day Molotov-Ribbentrop pact. An attempt to carve up Ukrainian territory, assets and resources, including minerals, metals, hydrocarbons and now infrastructure as well, in a neo-colonial annexation. The worst aspect is that this is likely being coordinated with a reincarnated evil empire, the Russian imperial project, the resurrection of the USSR, and a terror state that has committed innumerable war crimes, some of which amount to a modern-day genocide, comparable to the Holodomor. ----------LINKS:https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/34df812ab180a9d4https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/mar/25/russia-ukraine-ceasefire-trumphttps://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/starmer-coalition-of-the-willing-ukraine-paris-b2722491.htmlhttps://kyivindependent.com/kremlin-warns-it-may-resume-energy-strikes-accuses-ukraine-of-ceasefire-breaches/https://kyivindependent.com/white-house-rejects-putins-proposal-for-temporary-government-in-ukraine/https://kyivindependent.com/you-cant-trust-the-russians-europes-ukraine-peacekeeping-plans-face-one-obvious-hurdle/ ----------Easter Pysanky: Silicon Curtain - https://car4ukraine.com/campaigns/easter-pysanky-silicon-curtainCar for Ukraine has joined forces with a group of influencers, creators, and news observers during this special Easter season. It was a big deal for Rod Duke to go public with his concerns about his country yesterday. The Managing Director of Briscoe's was announcing his company's full year result. His company did well. Holding on to it's revenue in a difficult year. Rod and his team have been praised for their performance over a number of years. They're smart operators who can wring blood out of a stone. But it's not part of the job description to pass comment on the government of the day. But he did. Which is symptomatic of today's climate. We're sick of the doldrums and we want a captain to lead out out of the quicksand. So, Rod as a Corporate Leader said the government needs to get it's arse into gear and do something. He said it's been a year since the last lot so there's been more than enough time to get proactive. He believes the closer we get to an election the more pro-active the government will get but he'd like more action now. But when asked what, he said it's not his business. And that's the New Zealand problem right there. We're good at identifying problems but not finding solutions. We ask our government to do something. They don't so we vote for the other lot. They say have the answers but they don't. And so we flip flop again with nothing happening. Then yesterday we had the IMF coming out saying that New Zealand needs to lower it's corporate tax because we're becoming uncompetitive. But they also say we need a capital gains tax because a country needs to balance it's budget. We need to spend but we also need to raise the revenue to spend. So, the IMF come up with an answer. Is the Government reducing corporate tax. Not so far. Meanwhile is the Labour party championing a capital gains tax. Not so far. Is any party offering both? After the murder of George Floyd, the United States had the largest protests in the nation's history. Other public and private responses included corporations, organizations, and communities making policies, issuing statements, and engaging in conversations. Some political science departments issued statements. My guests today are three political scientists who looked at the substance of those statements – and reflected on what it means about the discipline of political science. Their article “An Incomplete Recognition: An Analysis of Political Science Department Statements after the Murder of George Floyd” appeared in the prestigious APSR (American Political Science Review) published by Cambridge University Press. In the podcast, the authors analyze what political scientists did – and did not do – and what their statements might tell us about how political scientists understand race, racism, and power. We also reflect on how political scientists have reacted to the second Trump presidency in a joint statement. Dr. Nadia E. Brown is Professor of Government and Director of the Women's and Gender Studies Program at Georgetown University. Dr. Brown's research interests lie broadly in identity politics, legislative studies, and Black women's studies. While trained as a political scientist, her scholarship on intersectionality seeks to push beyond disciplinary constraints to think more holistically about the politics of identity. She previously discussed in one of her books on the NBN: Sister Style: The Politics of Appearance for Black Women Political Elites (co-authored with Danielle Casarez Lemi). Dr. Fernando Tormos-Aponte is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Pittsburgh and Policy Lead for the Just Transition Alliance. Dr. Tormos-Aponte specializes in environmental and racial justice, intersectional solidarity, identity politics, social policy, and transnational politics. Dr. Tormos-Aponte's research on social movements focuses on how social movements cope with internal divisions and gain political influence. Tormos-Aponte also investigates civil society claims about the uneven government response across communities. His work in this area examines the causes and consequences of government neglect of socially vulnerable communities during disaster recoveries. Dr. Janelle Wong is Professor of Government and Politics and Professor of American Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is also the Director of the Asian American Studies Program. Dr. Wong's research focuses on race, immigration, and political mobilization. As a scholar and teacher, Wong has worked closely with social service, labor, civil rights, and media organizations that serve the Asian American population. She has talked about her book on the NBN Immigrants, Evangelicals, and Politics in an Era of Demographic Change and also her work on The Collaborative Multiracial Post-Election Survey as part of Heath Brown's Co-Authored series. Mentioned: Brown, Tormos-Aponte, and Wong, “An Incomplete Recognition: An Analysis of Political Science Department Statements after the Murder of George Floyd” in APSR, Cambridge APSA Letter with 1202 signatures from political science PhDs expressing urgent concern about threats to the basic design of American government and democracy. This week we're discussing a news series we're creating to become a better shot with a rifle but also how recreational shooters might contribute more money to conservation than hunters. A few news stories from this week include the following. In Alaska the Bureau of Land management has released their final supplemental environmental impact statement in regards to the construction of the Ambler Road where they have recommended "No Action". News of chronic wasting disease potentially infecting humans has been spreading like wild fire in national news, but our friend Jim Heffelfinger has pointed out that the article that is often being cited, is NOT a scientific study, it is simply a short report of events. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife just released their draft black bear conservation plan that shows that bear populations are thriving in the state and there is more than enough room for hunter harvest. In July of 2023, the Fifth Circuit reversed the district court's decision in Clarke v. CFTC, and remanded with instructions to enter a preliminary injunction against the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The case is one concerning the CFTC's revocation of its "no-action letter" concerning PredictIt Market. PredictIt Market is an online marketplace for people to trade contracts predicting important political events, started as a research tool by Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. Before going into operation, PredictIt sought a "no-action letter" from the CFTC to operate in the US without registering under the Commodity Exchange Act as a designated contract market, which the CFTC issued in 2014.However, in August 2022, the CFTC withdrew the letter and issued notice to PredictIt to cease operations within 6 months, which led to suit being filed by supporters of PredictIt. Questions included whether the revocation was arbitrary and capricious, whether the letter constituted "final action" on the part of the agency, and whether the plaintiffs had standing to sue.Join us as a panel of experts discuss this interesting case.Featuring:Michael Edney, Partner, Hunton Andrews Kurth LLPHon. The David Alliance TDAgiantslayer@Gmail.com MingleMateMarry.com podcast youtube and website for the perfect marriage material and swag. They got a great hoodie called its a great day to be married… after today maybe some of you will want to wear purchase it… because many of you are not loving the days you are married… Look at you… you aint no man… you just talk…You gotta a Lamborghini mouth and a moped work ethic… Mark Twain: "Action speaks louder than words but not nearly as often.” Maybe it should be “Actions reveal the truth behind words” Words today are amplified by social media. the right font, the right video, the right music, the right cliche… But where is the action? No matter how powerful the speaker, the words chosen, the eloquence and the manner to which they speak, no matter how impactful they seem and no matter what promises are made.. no matter what great change has been promised or what great past accolades have been touted… words mean nothing… they are stupid, they are lies! They lie… unless there is action. Simply put, it means that what people do carries more weight than what they say. In other words, people are judged not by what they say they will do but by what they do. This phrase is particularly relevant today when we receive countless messages and promises from individuals and institutions. Look there are businesses out there who are searching, literally searching for people who DO. Think of it, the highest demand is not for those who have a great resume, or those who make grand promises… but for those who DO. Companies lose billions of dollars every year because they trusted people who say and don't' do. Its the same in the lives of people who say they are Christian. Much said, little done. If you truly believe in scripture than you should be the most active, fearless and productive people in your home, job and church. Here is a good question to ask yourself… if you talk a good talk, but you know deep down in your heart you don't really follow through, you know its just talk… what do you get out of it? A good question. What do you get from just a life of words and no action? Hey we have all seen the parent talk smack or talk repercussions to their teen. Keep it up and you will have to deal with…. But then it never happens. What would happen if you just never told your kids what will happen but you just did it. They talk back and you take their phone for a day, they don't do their homework they don't get the car, they don't clean their room they have their gaming taken away… but you never tell them in advance, you just do it. Believe it or not- if you start this from a young age, your kids will grow up incredibly successful. They will have proof number one that actions have consequences… and not words - I hope you caught that. But even deeper still… back to our question of what do you get out of talking but not acting. So here is something I found helpful… and I am not sure all the psychology that is behind this, but it works. When I have a big goal, when I really want something done… I tell no one, When challenged or encouraged to talk about my accomplishments or my goals… I say nothing, when given windows in which I can share about all that I will do, could do, want to do, or working on doing… I SAY NOTHING. And it motivates me with this one thought… I will say nothing unless I have actually done that act in which they are talking about. How many times have I heard people say “Im thinking about writing a book”. And I say WHO CARES. Why do I say that? Because no one other than your mother cares… just write the book. I say that having written 12 books… no one cared about my “im writing a book… talk” until I actually wrote the book. 1 John 3:18:“Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth” But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22 James 2:17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. Matt. 5:16 May they see your works They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work. Titus 1:6 These verses are an admonition of being seen by a lack of action, not by a lack of talking…
It's "strike two" for Hollywood! For the first time in over 60 years, actors and writers are both hitting the picket lines at the same time.
