What's up, dudes? Today we're talking about the present Santa brought me for Christmas 1985. Yes, it's the Defender of the Universe itself: Voltron! Joining to dig into these Christmas wishbooks is my buddy Lucas Hinojosa and DJ Chad Sheppard! We dig into the history and awesomeness that is the mighty robot! It's a Voltron Christmas! From days of long ago, from uncharted regions of the universe, comes a legend, the legend of Voltron, Defender of the Universe. A mighty robot, loved by good, feared by evil. As Voltron's legend grew, peace settled across the galaxy. On planet Earth, a galaxy alliance was formed. Together with the good planets of the solar system, they maintained peace throughout the universe. Until a new horrible menace threatened the galaxy. Voltron was needed once more. This is the story of the super force of space explorers, specially trained, and sent by the alliance, to bring back Voltron: Defender of the Universe. The series was primarily edited from Beast King GoLion (Hyakujū-ō Goraion), and it features a team of five young space explorers commanding five robot lions which can be combined to form Voltron. In this undefined future era, the Voltron Force is in charge of protecting the planet Arus, ruled by Princess Allura, from the evil King Zarkon of planet Doom, his son Lotor, and the witch Haggar. Each episode huge killer "ro-beasts" terrorize the people of Arus. In the decades that followed, companies produced Christmas tie-in merchandise, such as ornaments, sweaters, and stockings as well.Lion robots? Check. Flaming swords? For sure. Edited and sanitized original anime for American audiences? I'm looking at you, Sven! So grab your key, hop in your lion, and form your mighty robot to this episode on Voltron Christmas! Give us a buzz! Our Voltron friends, Dana, Rye and Todd join Marc and Greg to review the first episode of Season 8 of Voltron Legendary Defender, Launch Date. Dana, who lives in Tennessee, recently had lost all of her possessions in a fire at her family's home. This was a devastating loss for Dana. Here are some pictures of the house after the fire and the area that used to be Dana's bedroom: There is a GoFundMe page setup to help support Dana's family and their efforts to recover from this tragedy with their most immediate needs. They have not reached the GoFundMe goal yet, so please provide help if you can to a very special Voltron fan and her family at this link: https://www.gofundme.com/support-lewis-and-missy-hall Dana's best friend, Rye, who lives in South Carolina, knew that Dana had lost a lot of personal items with sentimental value, including a lot of art, signed posters and other special items she had bought at various conventions that Rye and Dana attended together over the years. One item, in particular, was a Voltron poster that Dana had signed by many of the voice actors and crew from Voltron Legendary Defender that she had collected at several conventions. Rye, without Dana knowing, had reached out to us on Twitter DM and asked if there was any way to connect with DreamWorks Animation to see if there was a way to get something signed and sent to Dana. We contacted Seth Fowler at DreamWorks PR, letting him know about the fire that destroyed Dana's signed poster, and asked if they could help Rye get something signed for her friend, Dana. It just so happened that THAT very night, the DreamWorks Animation group had planned a cast and crew party to celebrate the final season of Voltron Legendary Defender. Within a week, a signed poster of the combined lithographs of all the Voltron Legendary Defender characters, which was signed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Lauren Montgomery, Josh Keaton, Kimberly Brooks, Neil Kaplan, AJ LoCascio, and more of the cast and crew that were at the party that night, was on its way to Dana's boyfriend's house, where Dana was staying. Rye had given the address to Seth so it would be a surprise to Dana. Here are the pictures Dana shared on Twitter when she received that package: A huge THANK YOU to DreamWorks, the cast and crew of Voltron Legendary Defender, and everyone involved in getting this signed poster to Dana. And of course, this would have never been possible without Rye, who not only initiated the communication to get her best friend something that meant a lot to her, but introduced Dana to Voltron Legendary Defender in the first place. You'll hear all of these stories and more, as Dana and Rye joined us to help review Launch Date, the first episode of Season 8 of Voltron Legendary Defender on Netflix. Dana is on Twitter: @danahall26 Rye is on Twitter: @yauilla Todd Matthy also joined us for this episode review podcast. Todd has been on the podcast previously, as well. As we prepare for the launch of Season 6 on Netflix, we review the Season 6 trailer and some images that have been released from DreamWorks Animation. Shannon Muir has been on the podcast several times before, but for those of you who are hearing her on the podcast for the first time, here's a little bit about her writing: Shannon was originally a guest on the podcast for our 2-Part look at Voltron: The Third Dimension. She has provided some insight into people that have a direct connection with this show at DreamWorks Animation and WEP, from days of long ago. Shannon also wrote a Tumblr page article with her full review, which is now supplemented by her insight provided here on the podcast. You can check out her Tumblr article here: http://www.animatedinsights.com/ The Season 6 Trailer was released last Tuesday, June 5, 2018. And it immediately became the most shared trailer of all of the Voltron Legendary Defender Seasons. In addition to the trailer, several images were released by DreamWorks Animation for Season 6. We talk about the trailer and these images in this podcast. Here (below) is the link to the trailer and some of those images: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMRvbPZUILs Here are some screenshots from Episode 6 of Season 5 of Voltron Legendary Defender: White Lion: Next Friday, June 15, 2018, Season 6 of Voltron Legendary Defender launches on Netflix at 12 AM PDT. Dan provides a unique perspective, since he has watched these episodes as a fan when he was a kid, then watched these episodes as an adult writer, and had to research these episodes again as a writer of Voltron Comics for Devil's Due Publishing. If you recall, we haven't reviewed the Original Series Voltron Episodes since Podcast #15. We finished reviewing Episode 8 The Stolen Lion (Stolen Blue Lion) during that podcast. This story arc shows that Princess Allura is still unsure of herself in her role on the team. It also shows that Voltron is not always the one who saves the day. Marc closes out the episode with a preview of upcoming episodes, including a surprise episode from San Diego Comic-Con, a Vehicle Voltron episode, and possibly, an interview with one of the voice actors from the original Voltron Series. This really is a great Collectors Set to own, and whether you preserve it as a collectible or take it out of the box and play with it (which we recommend!), you will marvel at the quality of the craftsmanship that George Sohn and everyone at Toynami have put into this 30th Anniversary Die-Cast Voltron. If you still haven’t ordered one yet, here is a link to it at the Voltron Store. Mike also reports that Issue #3 of the Robotech/Voltron Crossover Comic Series has been released, and WEP is offering a 3-issue bundle. If you recall, Marc and Mike stopped reviewing Episode 4: The Missing Key in Podcast Episode #6 (We’re Space Explorers) just before the Voltron Force formed Voltron for the 1st time. So, this podcast episode covers the following episodes (Beast King GoLion episode titles in parenthesis): 4 -- The Missing Key (Resurrection of the Legendary Giant) 5 -- The Princess Joins Up (Fortress for the New Struggle) 6 -- The Right Arm of Voltron (Death of Shirogane the Hero) 7 -- The Lion Has New Claws (The Beautiful Princess' Battle) 8 -- The Stolen Lion (Stolen Blue Lion) Listen as we discuss the precarious situation of the Voltron Force’s struggle to defend Arus with Voltron, only to lose one of their own, and have the Princess step up to join the team. This story arc has many key elements that carry the series forward and establishes precedents for future episodes. Marc closes out the episode with a special announcement for next week’s episode of the podcast: Franklin Cofod, the Director, Producer, and Showrunner for the Original Voltron Series run from 1984-1986, will be our special guest for an extended interview that will cover a wealth of Voltron information that you will hear NOWHERE else. This will cover the next 2 episodes of the podcast. So, what have you always wanted to know about the original series that is still unknown? What questions do you have for Franklin Cofod? You have until Monday, May 12, at 6 PM EDT to get your questions in. Respond in the comments on this notes page, or call 860-4MULLET and leave a voicemail question, or send us an email at letsvoltronpodcast@gmail.com. This episode of Let’s Voltron continues our conversation with Bob Koplar, the Vice President of World Events Productions. In Part 2, Bob answers all the fan questions and thanks the fans for their support for the last 30 years. If you were ever curious if there will ever be Voltron Force toys, based on the Nicktoons cartoon, Bob gives us the FINAL word on that subject. If you wondered what DreamWorks’ acquisition of Classic Media will mean for the Voltron franchise, Bob gives us some insight into what WEP knows at this point. If you wanted to know what conventions WEP will be attending to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Voltron, Bob lets us know where they will be this year. If you want to know more about Beast King GoLion, the original Japanese cartoon that Voltron was derived from, then you will hear Bob talk about that in this episode. If you had submitted a question that was not asked during this episode, we apologize if we could not include it this time around. There will be many more guests coming on the podcast this year, and there are many more opportunities to submit questions. So, keep trying, and we’ll make sure to include your questions. We want to thank Bob Koplar for being our special guest, and for everything that WEP has done over the last 30 years since Voltron entered our lives and became such a lasting memory. We are looking forward to seeing more Voltron in the future. Don’t forget, Wizard World St. Louis Comic Con is this weekend, April 4-6, in St. Louis. We are looking forward to talking about the convention and the response from Voltron fans that are attending from all over. Thanks for listening!

This episode is exciting for our hosts, Mike French and Marc Morrell, because they finally get to talk about the original series in detail, starting with the first 4 episodes, out of 52, in the Lion Force Series. As an added bonus, Mike French gives the Beast King GoLion perspective as we go through the episodes. Space Explorers Captured Escape to Another Planet A Ghost and 4 Keys The Missing Key Before they discuss these episodes, Mike prepares the listeners to be on the lookout for the 2nd Issue of the Robotech/Voltron Crossover Comic Series, due out later this month. The 3rd issue cover has already been teased through Facebook and Twitter. Marc announces the “Challenge the Chee” selection for our resident podcast artist, Chee-Toy. Our superfan listener, Cryoflyte, posted this suggestion that our hosts have chosen: @LetsVoltron @Chee_toy @Voltron ooh ooh...the space explorers taking on that robeast they never got to fight in the arena! #ChallengeTheChee— Cryoflyte (@Skechek) January 29, 2014 Our hosts wanted to see an image of the fight between the Space Explorers and the Blue Robeast, so when Chee-Toy is finished, she will post that to the Let’s Voltron Facebook Page. Thanks, Chee-Toy, and thanks to Cryoflyte for the great suggestion! Thanks for listening!

In this first full episode of the Let's Voltron Podcast for 2014, Marc is joined by Mike French once again, and the discussion is a chronological History of Voltron Toys, from the era preceeding the 1984 launch of the Original Voltron Series to The Present. Mike French is the administrator of the Official Voltron Facebook and Twitter accounts. He also runs the retroblasting.com website, which includes a video channel, where you can see reviews of movies, cartoons, and toys from the 80's. In this episode, Mike talks about his interactions with the Voltron fans, now that he has been the administrator of the Official Voltron Facebook and Twitter accounts, since the new year began. Marc tells the listeners about the email address for the Let's Voltron Podcast, which is: letsvoltronpodcast@gmail.com Feel free to send us an email, and we'll put you on the list for notifications when we post a new episode, and possibly a future newsletter. Marc and Mike spent the rest of the episode talking about the History of Voltron Toys, in chronological order, starting in the early 80's, when the first Beast King GoLion and Dairugger toys were available from Popy in Japan. One of the toys we mentioned was the LJN Giant Voltron Commander Radio Controlled Robot. We talked about a commercial that promoted that toy, and here is a link to that 30-second blast from the past. If you follow the links from that one, you'll see there is a whole page of old Voltron commercials available to view. I'd say commercials have come a long way since then. We didn't mention it in the Podcast, but it has just been announced that the 30th Anniversary Voltron Collector's Set from Toynami will be available on April 30. That news broke here. You can still pre-order that set here. We also mentioned in the podcast that we would provide you with links for some of the Voltron Toy Archives that have been available on the web for fans of all the toys mentioned in this episode. Here are those links: http://www.action-figures.ca/voltron.htm http://www.virtualtoychest.com/voltron/voltron.html http://www.collectiondx.com/voltrontoys Thanks for listening!
