The Life of Ted Koplar, former President and CEO of Koplar Communications and World Events Productions, and Founder of the Voltron TV Series that originated from St. Louis, Missouri in 1984, is celebrated in this special episode of Let's Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast.
1987 hade World Events Productions tagit in tv-animén Seijūshi Bisumaruku och omarbetat den för amerikansk marknad, med bl a nytecknade avsnitt. Tidigt 90-tal tog Wendros AB in 12 episoder och lät dubba SABER RIDER till svenska. Jajemen, mer cowboys i rymden denna gång!

Looks like the beginning of what may well be the end on this week’s Voltron! Hosts Katie Cullen and Megan Salinas cover season 8 episodes 5 and 6: The Grudge and Genesis. We discuss Acxa’s social life or lack thereof, the best way to fool Voltron and the Atlas (hint: it involves not taking sarcasm seriously), and whether or not villains can change. We then move on to Honerva’s plan to tear apart reality to get Lotor back, leaving a trail of devastated planets (and devastated people) in her wake...and she wins this round. Things don’t look good, but we can always keep hoping. This is the first of 2 parts for our 5th Anniversary of Let's Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast, which includes 3 special surprise guests from the Voltron Universe! During each guest segment, we give away 1 of the 5 total prizes in our #LetsVoltron5 contest! So, there are 3 prizes given away in Part 1! Neil Ross is our 1st special guest and despite the fact that he was one of the 6 original voice actors to work on Voltron: Defender of the Universe back in 1984, he has blessed us by having 2 new projects come out recently. He was the voice of Voltron in the Happy Honda Days ad we talked about in our last podcast, and he wrote a new autobiography called "Vocal Recall: A Life in Radio and Voiceovers". We are proud to have Neil on the podcast for the third time and to see that he mentioned listening to our podcast in his book! He doesn't mention "Let's Voltron podcast" by name, but he was talking about our interview with Franklin Cofod in the 33rd Chapter of the book. If you would like to pick up Neil's book, there are 4 different formats to choose, including paperback, audiobook (read by Neil himself, and doing some of the voices he's famous for!), Kindle, and PDF file. Net proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to 1) Broadcasters Foundation of America & 2) The Actors Fund Order here: https://www.neilbook.com/order-the-book.html Our 2nd guest on the 5th Anniversary Podcast is Bob Koplar, President of World Events Productions in St. Louis, Missouri, the copyright, IP and trademark owner of Voltron. Bob gives us every indication that both Voltron merchandise and Voltron projects will continue in the future, although there is nothing next in line after Voltron Legendary Defender just yet. Our 3rd guest on the 5th Anniversary Podcast is Jeremy Corray, VP of Digital Entertainment at CoolFire Studios, and also the former Creative Director of WEP and the former co-host of Let's Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast. You never know what special information about Voltron that Jeremy might reveal, as he gives us his Top 5 Voltron moments in his career. We hope to have Jeremy back for another podcast soon, where he reveals some of the secrets behind "what almost was" or "what might have been" while he was working with Voltron at WEP. Here are the 3 prizes we are giving away in this podcast: Our 5th Anniversary Podcast didn't only come with 2 great podcast episodes. It also came with a really cool bunch of designs from 5 amazing Voltron fan artists! Although we don't introduce the artists for this 5th Anniversary Podcast until Part 2, we want to share these designs with you here, AND let you know you can buy these on our TeePublic store! The first 2 designs are SO BIG, that we can't put them on a t-shirt or other apparel, but they can can be put on posters, prints, notebooks, tapestries, pillows and stickers and things like that. Here are 108 characters you love, all in one cohesive design: And here is the t-shirt design that will also look great on all apparel, stickers, pillows, mugs, phone cases, prints, posters, and more: And here are the designs that include the 5th Anniversary Logo that we used to promote this on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram: You can get these wonderful designs on our TeePublic store, and for the first 72 hours, they are all on sale at 30% OFF at: https://www.teepublic.com/stores/let-s-voltron-podcast?ref_id=5313 We are so proud of the work that our "5th Anniversary Five" artists did on these designs, so please make sure you listen to Part 2 of the 5th Anniversary Podcast to hear how this wonderful collaboration came together like Voltron! Our special guest is Jason Sperling, Chief Creative Development for RPA, the ad agency responsible for the Happy Honda Days ad that featured the classic Voltron Matchbox die-cast toy, and included the original voices from Neil Ross, Michael Bell, BJ Ward and Jack Angel. Jason Sperling, Chief Creative Development for RPA, talks about how the Voltron Happy Honda Days ad came together, how the idea of using nostalgic toys to sell cars came to be, and what other things RPA has been involved with. One special thing that RPA is proud to be a part of, is the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, and they have been trying to help provide more resources for kids who have been diagnosed with brain tumors. RPA partnered with 23 animation studios, to create 23 different animated short films around each topic related to pediatric brain tumors. These short films are available in hospital networks around the world, in over 85 countries, and in 12 different languages. I am proud to share this review of everything that happened on the Let's Voltron Podcast from this past year, as well as some anniversary greetings that Voltron Fans left us on voicemail. Happy 30th Anniversary Voltron! On the Official 30th Anniversary of the date Voltron: Defender of the Universe debuted on Television (Sept 10, 1984), Let's Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast host Marc Morrell interviews Tiffany Ilardi, the Managing Director at World Events Productions, owner of the Voltron brand. Marc and Tiffany talk about the many plans that can be mentioned for the kickoff of Voltron's 30th year. Tiffany talks about some of the products that will be available for sale at a special 30th Anniversary section of the online store. Tiffany tells us about some of the licensees she's worked with over the years, some of the strangest products, and some that have captured the hearts of the fans. As the fans ask Tiffany questions, we hear what a typical day might be like for Tiffany at the WEP offices in St. Louis, Missouri. She answers questions related to her role on Voltron: The Third Dimension and Voltron Force, and gives us an idea about the relationship DreamWorks has with World Events Productions. At the end of the podcast, Tiffany announced the name of our “Show Us Your Voltron” contest winner. wofford.png Our winner is C.W. Sherlock, who submitted the following pic in his Voltron Jersey at the St. Louis Science Center, in front of the 15-foot tall Voltron statue. C. W. 10,000 Listens! Let’s Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast has been heard 10,000 times, in over 66 countries around the world, and in many different formats. A huge shout-out goes to all of you for helping us achieve this milestone in podcasting. As a reward, we started a contest a few weeks ago, and we asked fans to pretend that Ted Koplar, the President of World Events Productions, was standing in front of them. What would you say to the creator of Voltron: Defender of the Universe? The fans responded, and as a result, we are giving away 10 Voltron Prize Packs to 10 lucky winners. Those winners are identified during this episode, and will be contacted by email so we can ship those to your homes right away! And, as an added “Thank You” to the fans, we have an interview with Ted Koplar during this episode! Mr. Koplar tells us all the details about how World Events Productions began, and how Voltron was developed 30 years ago. He also reflects on what makes Voltron special, and gives us an extremely good feeling about “the next generation of Voltron”, which Bob Koplar, all of WEP, and DreamWorks are working on as we speak. We can’t tell you how thrilling it is to be able to bring Ted Koplar to the fans of this podcast. The goosebumps are never going to go away. Thank you, Ted Koplar, for giving Voltron to the world! Thanks for listening!
Marc gets the lowdown from Mike about everything VOLTRON that happened at the Wizard World St. Louis Comic Con, including two panels and a booth, hosted by World Events Productions. Mike goes into great detail about the process of setting up the booth on the convention floor, and what products were available to Voltron fans, including the opening of the Toynami 30th Anniversary Voltron for the first time! Mike also let us know what types of questions fans had when they came by the WEP booth. Marc asks Mike to take us through both of the panels. Saturday's panel was the 30th Anniversary Celebration panel which was kicked off with a special new 30th Anniversary Voltron Compilation video, edited by our own Michael French. That really got the fans going! Watch the video here. https://www.youtube.com/embed/6DRQkzuC2oc?wmode=opaque&enablejsapi=1 As fans lined up to ask questions at the panel, the first question was about the live-action movie, which was also a common question at the Voltron booth. Mike and Marc talk about this at length during the podcast. There were many products that were mentioned during the panel, including the Toynami 30th Anniversary Voltron, T-Shirts, Hoodies, Hockey Jerseys, and more, and even products that didn't make the cut, like the Voltron Form Blazing Sword Boxer Shorts. Also debuting for the first time ever was the Let's Voltron Podcast trailer, made by our own Marc Morrell. Fan response was great, and people were given postcards at the WEP booth, similar to the cards that were sent to some of the people that have participated in the podcast. Watch the Let's Voltron trailer. https://www.youtube.com/embed/ENm5JIo0CQM?wmode=opaque&enablejsapi=1 We had talked during the podcast about making the Pop Culture Video available as a link on this notes page, but that video is something that will only be shown as an exclusive for Voltron Panels at the conventions. So, if you want to see that, you should try to make your way to either San Diego Comic Con in July or New York Comic Con in October. Michael also talked about the Kids Panel that was geared to the younger Voltron fans on Sunday. Once again, thanks for listening!
This episode of Let’s Voltron continues our conversation with Bob Koplar, the Vice President of World Events Productions. In Part 2, Bob answers all the fan questions and thanks the fans for their support for the last 30 years. If you were ever curious if there will ever be Voltron Force toys, based on the Nicktoons cartoon, Bob gives us the FINAL word on that subject. If you wondered what DreamWorks’ acquisition of Classic Media will mean for the Voltron franchise, Bob gives us some insight into what WEP knows at this point. If you wanted to know what conventions WEP will be attending to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Voltron, Bob lets us know where they will be this year. If you want to know more about Beast King GoLion, the original Japanese cartoon that Voltron was derived from, then you will hear Bob talk about that in this episode. If you had submitted a question that was not asked during this episode, we apologize if we could not include it this time around. There will be many more guests coming on the podcast this year, and there are many more opportunities to submit questions. So, keep trying, and we’ll make sure to include your questions. We want to thank Bob Koplar for being our special guest, and for everything that WEP has done over the last 30 years since Voltron entered our lives and became such a lasting memory. We are looking forward to seeing more Voltron in the future. Don’t forget, Wizard World St. Louis Comic Con is this weekend, April 4-6, in St. Louis. We are looking forward to talking about the convention and the response from Voltron fans that are attending from all over. Thanks for listening!
In Part 1 of a 2-Part Episode, Marc and Mike interview the Vice President of World Events Productions, Bob Koplar. Bob shows his appreciation for all of the Voltron Fans and gives us a preview of what we can expect to see at the Wizard World Comic Con St. Louis Convention that will take place April 4-6 in “Voltron's Backyard”, the home of World Events Productions, St. Louis, Missouri. Bob gives us a look into his own personal Voltron history over the past 30 years. He also talks about the business side of how Voltron Force was made and the factors that held it to just 1 season. And to get to the heart of what's on the thoughts of many Voltron Fans, Bob goes into great detail about the status of the Voltron Live-Action Movie that everyone is excited about. Part 2 of this interview with WEP VP Bob Koplar will be released next week, and will include Bob's answers to almost all of the fan questions that were posted on Facebook, Twitter, email and voicemail. Get more information for Wizard World St. Louis Comic Con here. Thanks for listening!
Never underestimate the power of Voltron Fans! That’s what we learned this week when a Twitter conversation started a string of events that led us to our special guest this week: Voltron DDP Comics Author Dan Jolley. As you will find out from listening to this podcast episode, Dan Jolley is overwhelmed by the fan support for his version of the Voltron story. Since he was the first one to create true character backstories and bios for many of the characters we were introduced to by the original TV series, he was given free reign by WEP to make this universe his own. Dan’s intuition served him well as the major plot points came together, and we saw these characters mature before our eyes with every issue of the DDP Comics from 2003-2004. As this episode begins, Marc makes the colorful connection between Voltron and the Olympics, and Mike remarks that both Lion Force Voltron and Vehicle Voltron could be our team to cheer for in the best Olympics ever. Then, we welcome Dan Jolley to the podcast and we go back in time to 2003, when Dan first started working with Image Comics/Devils Due Publishing on the Voltron: Defender of the Universe Comics. This enlightening conversation hits many aspects of the Voltron story, from the origin of Voltron to why the space mice won’t be wearing any tutus. You may even hear what Dan would write about if he was able to continue writing some more Voltron comics. He is certainly open to the idea, and would love to work with World Events Productions. For those of you that submitted questions, listen carefully, as Dan answers your questions, and chooses one of you to receive a signed copy of one of the original Dan Jolley DDP Voltron Comics Issues in Mint Condition! Dan also tells us about two current projects he is working on with Dark Horse Comics: Bloodhound: Crowbar Medicine Terminator: Enemy of My Enemy It was a real blast having Dan on the Let’s Voltron Podcast, and we have all of you to thank for it! Give us more suggestions for people you would like to hear us interview on the podcast in the comments below. Let’s Voltron! Follow Dan Jolley on Twitter and on his website, The Jolleyverse. The Voltron Omnibus is available here.
