Nicholas grew up in Rhode Island, United States, where he formed his first band, The Vikings. The band performed cover versions of popular rhythm and blues hits of the time, along with songs by the Rolling Stones. In the mid-1960s, he formed the Black Cat Blues Band with Duke Robillard, Fran Christina and Steve Nardella. Around 1970, he formed the Boogie Brothers with Nardella. After attending the Ann Arbor Blues Festival in 1970, the band eventually moved on to San Francisco, California in 1972 per-request of Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen. By 1974, Nicholas had moved to Chicago, Illinois and began playing with Big Walter Horton. During his time in Chicago, he would record music with Horton, Boogie Woogie Red and Robert Lockwood, Jr. In 1974, he created his own single, "Too Many Bad Habits" for Blind Pig Records. Moving to Providence, Rhode Island, he formed his own band, Johnny Nicholas and the Rhythm Rockers, which included Kaz Kazanoff on saxophone, Terry Bingham on drums, Sarah Brown on bass guitar and Ronnie Earl on electric guitar. Nicholas began his stint with Asleep at the Wheel in 1978, when the band asked him to perform with them. During his off time, he would travel to various cities for solo shows, but would often visit Louisiana to play with Link Davis and Cajun accordion player Nathan Abshire. By 1980, however, Nicholas decided to take time off from music in order to raise a family.  in 1991 Nicholas returned to recording blues music with Johnny Shines and Snooky Pryor on the album Back to the Country. After returning to music, Johnny has released one studio album and three live albums on Topcat Records while also returning to regular live shows.

Part I - Talk Interview - The Life & Musical Career of Blues Music legend, Luther Guitar Junior Johnson (1939-2022)  In January 2020, we were blessed to spend some time with Luther, who was always a gracious & honored guest at the home of BRI's Audrey Michelle & Michael Wolf.In this part 1 of 2 Luther tells us about his life, starting from the beginning in Mississippi. At the age of 13 he received his first guitar from his parents who were fans of Muddy Waters, not knowing that later in his life he would go on to play guitar in the Muddy Waters Band. He learned how to play guitar from his uncle, who he paid 15 cents for lessons. Making his way to Chicago in the 1950's where he played in pop up basement juke joints with players like, Robert Nighthawk, Howlin' Wolf, Lil' Walter, Elmore James & many others. (You can only imagine what that scene was like!) The story goes on from there so, you will just have to listen to hear the rest of Luther's incredible life story. You will hear jokes & lots of playful laughter which was always in abundance when you were in Luther's company.Luther "Guitar Jr." Johnson, who hails from Itta Bena Mississippi (also the birthplace  of B.B. King)  A West Side Chicago guitarist,  had a storied career, including a stint with The Muddy Waters Band. He had 21 albums, was in countless music videos, made hundreds of recordings & appeared with John Lee Hooker, Big Walter Horton, Pinetop Perkins, Calvin Jones & Willie 'Big Eyes' Smith in the original 1980 Blues Brothers Movie.  @thebluesbrothers7474   In part 2 of this interview, the musical portion, you may notice that Luther is playing an electric custom guitar by Delaney Guitars.  This guitar was originally designed for & owned by, blues man, Mike Zito. It is an honor to have Luther play & to have signed this one of a kind instrument made by Mr. Michael Delaney in Texas, USA.   @ValDelaneyGuitars We give our love & sincere thanks to the late Michael Shivvers of The Blues Roots Digital Archive, our dear friend, & fellow blues music documentarian who passed suddenly in 2020. Mike & Luther traveled The United States together by car with their gear in tow from gig to gig promoting, 'Won't Be Back No More,' Luthers newest & final album. An acoustic recording with with a whopping 17 tracks & 8 new original tunes. Luther & Michael recorded the album, at Luther's home in Wildwood, Florida.

LURRIE BELL is a legend of the Chicago blues scene. Born in 1958, the son of famed blues harmonica player Carey Bell, Lurrie picked up his father's guitar at age of five and taught himself to play.In addition, he grew up with many of the Chicago blues legends around him. Eddie Taylor, Big Walter Horton, Eddie C. Campbell, Eddie Clearwater, Lovie Lee, Sunnyland Slim, Jimmy Dawkins and many more were frequent visitors to his house. They all helped to shape and school him in the blues, but none as much as his father's long-time employer Muddy Waters. By seventeen Lurrie Bell was playing on stage with Willie Dixon and soon formed The Sons of Blues band and toured with Koko Taylor. 'The Devil Ain't Got No Music,' is Lurrie's latest. It's a collection of acoustic blues and gospel songs that recollect the music he often played with his dad and at church in Mississippi and Alabama as a child. LISA BIALES is a soulful songstress, performer, and recording artist who weaves a tapestry of Americana, jazz and blues inspired folk. A native of Ohio, Lisa grew up in a musical family and began her career as a performing songwriter at the age of thirteen. Lisa has independently released six albums of music under her own Big Song Music label including her latest 'Just Like Honey' which was produced by WoodSongs alum EG Kight. Lisa also makes her film debut this year in Academy Award-winning director Francis Ford Coppola's new film,Twixt.

The 349th Roadhouse mixes up artists on small labels and large. Many of the tracks are also less than a month old, or less than a month ahead of release. Big Pete, Cash Box Kings, The Sugar Prophets, Sista Monica Parker, and Big Walter Horton pave the way for an hour of blues that I think you'll find to be a winner - and, of course, another hour of the finest blues you've never heard.
